Detroit Pizza Islington Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Detroit Pizza’s original Spitalfields restaurant isn’t the kind of place you can spend a lot of time in, but their Islington location is. Tucked away down an alley off Upper Street, this marinara-obsessed pizza spot has kept the same high standards of pie, as well extending the reaches of its menu with a handful of Italian-American dishes. Downstairs there’s a bar to pitch up at with a couple of US beers on tap (in London, PBR is exotic) and the dining room is all diner-style booths and stools, for saucy chicken parms or pizza parties with pints. Upstairs there’s an enormous room adorned with sports stuff and screens, set up for big groups of friends to gather—pepperoni pies, buffalo wings, and all." - Jake Missing

First time visiting this branch of Detroit Pizza. Lots of seating available, friendly service and unreal pizzas, as ever. Can never eat a whole Detroit-style pie in one go - but always try my very best. They’re that good.

Went on a quiet afternoon which was good. Overall good experience and good pizza Not sure if the sides made the meal better, I’d go again for just pizza. Deep fried lasagna was good. Meat balls were okay. But still enjoyable. Would grab a slice again.

Visited on Bank Holiday weekend. Our usual go to is Spitalfields however this was closer so gave it a go. Sadly didn't get the warm welcome we usually get. We placed our order, when the food came out sauces we ordered didn't come, also we ordered a large pizza then changed to regular when ordering but was served a large and regular and the server seemed annoyed, added it to the bill then took it off as waste. Was his error for not listening properly. Wasn't a nice environment with the children, he could have smiled bit, definitely gave vibes he didn't want to be there. Low stars because of the service plus my new forest pizza wasn't as strong in flavour.

Delicious pizza and a comfortable atmosphere—definitely a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family. Much better overall than the one in Spitalfields, especially with the proper seating and relaxed vibe. However, our experience was let down by one member of staff. We had a reservation for 6 people at 8:15pm on 2 May 2025 and were seated at the table by the door. During our meal, a female staff member wearing glasses and a head covering approached us while we were still halfway through our food and abruptly asked if we were done and wanted the bill. It felt quite rushed and unwelcoming. When I asked what time the restaurant closed, she gave a strange look rather than a straightforward answer. Later, when we asked for two takeaway boxes, she only brought one, which just added to the frustration. The food and setting were great, but the service from this particular staff member was disappointing. Hopefully this was just a one-off, as everything else about the restaurant was enjoyable.

Delicious Detroit style pizza. There are a few options on the menu although they were all pretty similar but if they basically do two things they do them well. Toppings seemed good quality with a perfect caramelised crust. The atheistic of the restaurant was pretty cool too. I read a lot about the tiramisu online, while it was good, certainly don’t think it’s highlight

One of the photos below is the margherita pizza I thought I would be getting. The remaining photos are of the one I actually got. Spot the difference? Burnt to a crisp and was inedible. No phone number to call as so I ended up ordering another pizza from Rudy’s instead. Tried to feedback via their website, wats app number, and even went in store where the barman took down my details and told me the manager would be in touch. Two weeks later and no reply. Very disappointing approach to customer service especially when you have let them down. Seems like they don’t care when they get it wrong and let their customers down. Shame as I have ordered multiple times before from Spitalfields and Islington but won’t be returning with my custom now.

It was my first time trying Detroit pizza and I wasn't disappointed. Make sure to get a sauce on the size though. The pizza was great -- cheesy all the way! However, we also got the meatballs, and they were a bit on a bland side and a bit dry, so I would stick to the pizza next time. They recommend a regular pizza for two to share, which I say is about right assuming you're not that hungry or you get a side dish. Service is very friendly and fast.

Delicious Detroit style pizza. Dough was light, not too heavy. Good selection of starters (deep fried lasagne and chicken tenders were tasty). Friendly staff and relaxed vibe.
