We did the sunset dinner cruise and had a wonderful time celebrating our friend’s 50th birthdays. The entertainment was fun, music to dance and the views outside were amazing, esp with the sunset and then nighttime the city lit up. The food was probably the only disappointment. Did not care for it very much. Would have been nice to maybe offer some bread or rolls too. Desert was ok. Regardless, we still enjoyed ourselves.

We celebrated our 16th. wedding anniversary by starting with a luncheon on the Detroit, Mi. Princess boat. It was a tour of Lake Huron and we had a buffet, music, dancing and I liked it very much. Tickets for two was $128.49. Two hour cruise looking at Canada from across the waterway. Live music, dancing together and pictures. A live group sang and danced for the crowd, and freedom to move about. Bathrooms were spacious and very well adequate for the event.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had such a fantastic time on the Detroit Princess Riverboat! The food was delicious and the dessert was just as good. The customer service was top-notch, and everything on the boat was very clean and well maintained. The Motown music made the whole evening feel extra fun and lively, and being able to enjoy the views of both Detroit and Canada from the top deck was absolutely amazing. They even surprised my friend by wishing her a happy birthday as we boarded, which made the night extra special. Overall, it was such a wonderful and memorable experience — highly recommend, definitely a 5-star outing!

Google
This was a fun night out with good food and great entertainment. Bar and snacks available with a smooth ride up the Detroit River. The sunset river cruise has absolutely stunning views from each deck of the boat. We will definitely do again in the future.

I was very impressed with the Princess Riverboat. I have seen it many times but never was on it. We took a Cruise sponsored by our favorite NPR station WDET-FM. The ship is beautiful inside and out. We were on the 4th level and enjoyed the views, River and the music. I will try it again for a Dinner cruise as I was told by a friend that the Food is great.

Google
Dinner and show was great. We enjoy every minute. Just one thing, we’ve been there a couple of times the last one for our anniversary and with coworkers, one thing I think it’s missing it’s announcing the area and tell historical stories or what some of the bridges and buildings are, I think it would be a great thing to learn a little more about Canada and Detroit. The food and service was great and the view was most excellent.

If you are looking for a nice relaxing evening on the Detroit River, I might suggest a cruise on the Detroit Princess. We did the sunset cruise. Boarding starts at 6pm with the boat leaving the dock at 7pm. We boarded at 6, were taken to our table and by 6:15 or so the buffet was open so we were able to eat before the ship left the dock. Plenty of food and as much as you can eat. Our main course was salmon and chicken with red potatoes, salad, pasta and veggies. The dessert was vanilla ice cream, pound cake and strawberries. Cash bar was available as well. There was live entertainment, a Motown group, but we were on deck before they started. The cruise was relaxing and a nice night out. The staff and crew were great! They were friendly and clearly knew what they were doing. I know they want to accommodate as many guests as possible, but found the seating to be very tight and close. The dinner area is air conditioned which was nice.

Dinner, DJ & Cruise is perfect for any occasion! Been there twice within 2 months and we will definitely be back. We loved everything with our experience on The Princess. Pricing is good for what you get on the cruise.😊

Yelp
Initially, I was concerned about the value of the cruise for the money we spent. However, I found it very acceptable. The food was great! It included prime rib and was all you could eat. We had sautéed mushrooms, potatoes, fresh vegetables, salad and dessert. The entertainment was enjoyable. I found the DJ more entertaining than the Motown review. The competition for the free drink was hilarious. Getting people up & dancing was much needed. #FUN The ambiance inside the ships was very adequate. The service was a little slow because we still had dishes at our table during the second set of entertainment. The ride was smooth and the views along the River are breathtaking.

Yelp
The food as always was fantastic and plentiful!! The beef and chicken were perfectly cooked and the salads fresh. The servers and crew are always top notch! Always there with a smile and friendly greeting. The Prolifics as always were fantastic!! The only thing is the tables were packed in too tight. More than normal. This was the first time we were on the 1st deck. Overall a favorite Detroit experience!!

Yelp
I'd taken a summer weekend cruise that was full of family reunions and other celebrations so we decided to try them inesrly fall. At this lunch cruise they served cafeteria style lunch of salads, chicken, beef, sides, desserts at all you can plus a bar (credit cards only). There was live entertainment of a very good Motown style group. They cruised for about 1.5 hours up and down the Detroit river. The staff and crew are very helpful from boarding through table service. For those with mobility issues they helped with boarding and debriefing them. Parking is one area that's confusing. Where i think they suggested you park isn't quite close. Once I parked near the Huntington place($25), others suggested their roof parking. I'd suggest you add a half hour min and to board early just in case.

Yelp
My wife has wanted to do this for some time, for her birthday I bought tickets and two other couples joined us. For those other reviews that are griping about parking, get over it. It's downtown big city. $20-30 parking is normal, try parking in Chicago, or LA, or pretty much any other large city. We parked just down the river-side-walk from the boat, maybe 500 yards for ~$30. You can park a little farther way for $10-20. They (on the boat) do give you a voucher for $22 off your parking, but if you pay on the way in, it won't help you and will only work next time perhaps. We had a nice time on the sunset cruise, the weather was great. Everybody working on that boat were absolutely wonderful. The gentlemen taking care of our table was outstanding, just friendly, outgoing, and a true gem. I can't stress that enough, the crew was excellent. They split tips for all the service folks from the bar to the tables, so plan on having cash for tips, otherwise it's card only. For the positives- As mentioned, the crew was amazing. Food was very good. Prime rib was excellent, really all of the food was very good. Walking around the boat was enjoyable, sitting on the 4th deck outside watching the city lights go by was nice except for the smoking. For the negatives- The music/entertainment was ridiculously loud on the first deck where we were sitting. We were relatively close to the front/stage/dance floor, but it was so loud that most of us at the table had headaches by the time it was done. The Motown music was pretty good, again, just crazy loud. The DJ talked too much, played games that weren't really that entertaining. Most disappointing was that we were unable to carry on a conversation at the table with the other two couples we come with. On several decks the smell of marijuana was overpowering so made staying at the comfy table/chairs outside a not-happening-kind-of-thing. All in all, when I asked my wife if it was everything she expected and more, her answer was, "It was everything I expected, just not maybe the more". I would consider going back if I could sit way to the back away from the stage/dance/floor speakers, and we didn't have to deal with the smell of the marijuana and walking off the boat with that smell on my clothes.

Yelp
Was in town with family for a sad occasion, but also happy to be blessed to cherish the memories. We decided to make reservations on this riverboat, which was a favorite pastime for our loved one. We had a ball! The food was delicious, and we enjoyed the band! Motown was in the house! :-) The host was really good; we enjoyed the games and the line dancing toward the end of the evening. The boat ride was very smooth, and the sights were awesome - saw Canada on the other side, which was really neat!

Yelp
We had the best time on our Lunch Cruise! The boat was larger and so much nicer than I would've thought. Very clean and well kept! The staff was so friendly and helpful from the moment we stepped on the boat. All the things introverts worry about (who do we show our reservations to? How do we find our table? How do we know when to get food?) were all addressed by the staff making us feel comfortable immediately. We were shown to our table on the first deck, a staff member explained how the buffet worked, and we enjoyed some of the best food! The beef tips and tortellini were our favorite. The Prolifics entertained us with such professionalism and energy. They were incredible! We then made our way up to the 4th deck for the remainder of our afternoon. What an experience. There is no better way to see the city of Detroit! We went all the way down to Belle Isle, turned around and went back to the Ambassador Bridge, turned around under the bridge and headed back to our dock near the Ren Cen. This was such a cool experience and we will definitely be bringing family and friends back!

Yelp
Visited Detroit for a family reunion. One of our outings included the Riverboat. The Lunch boat option was one of highlights for everyone. We were fortunate the weather was perfect a nice sea breeze. Not to mention a lunch buffet that included beef tips, baked chicken, potatoes, and vegetables. It wasn't the best meal we had but it was the total ambience that made the boat ride that much more special. The ride included a special performance from the group Prolific's who did an outstanding job singing memorable Motown by songs from the 60s and 70s that the audience loved. The boat ride lasted 2 hour and twenty minutes but seemed longer. The price was excellent and I would recommend this boat ride if you ever get the opportunity.

Yelp
Cleanliness is lacking. The tackiness of most of the experience used to be its charm. Now it just all seems trash. We were there as early as was permitted and were seated directly behind a pole obstructing our view of the show. We finished our meal and then sat through an hour of boring party games with about only 20 other people. Everyone else was looking at the views on the outer decks. The singing group finally came out and was entertaining. But I am never doing this again.

Yelp
On our vacation to Michigan while visiting my sister, my husband, sister and I had a wonderful time on the Detroit Princess Cruise. (Lunch cruise) The food was delicious. The atmosphere was great. The staff were friendly, courteous and created a welcoming environment. The riverboat was clean. The cruise was so relaxing and we loved sitting out on the deck and able to see both the Detroit and Canada skyline. I would highly recommend this cruise.

Yelp
I was trying to plan a couple of unique experiences for him for a change. Every experience is unique for me. But he's never been on the Detroit Princess so I thought this would be fun. Originally our tickets were for the beer tasting. Well... That cancelled. So we ended up doing the dinner. I was very disappointed that the beer tasting cancelled as I think we would have really enjoyed that. We were a bit worried that we were going to be with a bunch of old women but we were pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the patrons. Dinner was served buffet style. Basic "wedding food". Nothing too special. Nothing really stuck out. It's a cash bar which gets pricey. But also keep people from getting sloppy drunk. Most people were dressed in business casual. Some were quite dressed up and others in shorts and jeans. I guess it depends on your preference. The Detroit Princess is quite large. The view was beautiful. The ride was probably a little longer than either of us were ready for. You board at 6 and can start eating immediately. Once finished, you can wander the boat. The boat leaves at 7. It's a two hour tour. So you dock at 9. Party ends at 9:30. We were probably ready to get off the boat by 8:15 haha. They did have some terrific entertainment. Well, at least I thought so. I love Motown music. I was tapping my toes. It's not really his cup of tea. Like I said, the beer tasting would have been much more to our liking but overall it was a very fun experience. We just won't likely do it again haha. I do think this or something similar is a great idea to really get the full feel of the Detroit skyline. It is an amazing a beautiful city that people don't always appreciate!

Yelp
I was aboard the ship for my class reunion. It was wonderful to be with friends but there are some things which could be done to improve the experience. Dinner is served buffet style. All of the entrees (baked chicken, vegetable tortellini Alfredo, balsamic roasted Portobello mushrooms, and prime rib) were served lukewarm instead of hot. The same goes for the roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables. Dessert was a very thin slice of pound cake with a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream and a spoonful of frozen strawberries in syrup. Dinner DOES NOT include soft drinks, but it should for the price! There were lines at the bar because one of the bartenders ONLY accepted cash. He said his "credit card system was down". I think he just didn't want to work! The ship is old but in good condition. The first hour of the cruise is music by a Motown cover band, The Prolifics. These guys could have done a better job according to my friends. There's a break and a DJ takes the stage. He played requests and got us on our feet to wind down the evening.

Yelp
My husband and I went on the dinner cruise , it was such a beautiful experience .Everyone was exceptionally friendly ,the dinner was awesome and the band was great as well .

Yelp
Even though we did not have the opportunity to cross into Windsor (Canada)- I was happy knowing that our Motown Dinner Cruise on the Detroit Princess was a success. Thank goodness this suggestion was thrown my way, because I would've never come across this gem. We booked our cruise on their website & as suggested from my friend- she told me to mention in the "Notes" section of my booking that I was part of the NALC group- that way we can all be seated together. And it worked out perfect. Our group had 4 tables next to another! We printed out our passes & it was a breeze getting on board. For $68- was really impressed out how huge the riverboat was. When it said boarding is at 6pm- get there! The food buffet is ready to go!! And they're not messing around! Although some of my companions had their mixed reviews on the food selection & what they thought of quality- I can only review my experience. I made 2 or 3 trips to the food line & got the same damn thing each trip. I indulged in the tossed salad (iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, & shredded cheese) and ranch dressing; baked herbed chicken- got my greedy fingers on the wings; & carved prime rib w/ au jus & horseradish. Other dinner selections that night were pork tenderloin, vegetarian lasagna, cheese tortellini, steamed mixed vegetables, dinner rolls, & browned potatoes. The chicken was moist & tender. The prime rib was delicious & went well w/ my spicy gin Bloody Mary. The bartender was really nice- we just waited fort he lines to die down. There was no worscestershire sauce available- her words were "the bar is very limited in selection"- it was all good. She made a stiff one & was kind to give me tons of olives. Entertainment was provided by the Prolifics getting down to unforgettable 60s Motown. We ventured to the 4th level of the boat (we were seated at the 3rd) to catch the wonderful breeze & sights of Canadian homes across the river. Luckily for us- it wasn't a balmy evening. It was cool & no humidity. It was beautiful to watch the sun lowering & passing by the lighthouse.

Yelp
The cruise was relaxing and beautiful from the upper decks although the pot aroma was prettier strong at times. The food was good not super special. The Motown music was fun but we were sitting in front of the speakers and it was way too loud so we sat on the upper deck and enjoyed the scenery. The one complaint I'd make was that it was impossible to get a drink. There were only two bartenders and they were very slow I think because they have to split there tips with the other staff. They could have sold so many cocktails had they had more workers and hustled more.

Greg G.

Yelp
We had an amazing time. Food was great. Drinks were great. We seen the Motown show these gentlemen were so amazing. So talented an great to the audience. Ms Sheila went above an beyond to make us feel welcome. An that was before she knew we had a WWE celebrity with us. We will definitely be back if we ever come to Detroit.

Yelp
Just had an enjoy evening on the Princess for a Boat Club's Commodore Ball on level 3. The food was good, the bar service was great and the staff assisting me with my DJ equipment rocked. Beautiful night for a cruise. Thank you staff!!

Miro6800 R.

Yelp
The stuff is extremely friendly & give you a easy relaxed experience. They went over & beyond working hard @ yesterdays lunch cruise. Thank you for great service! We loved the music & the band the "Prolifics" sparkled the right mood with great songs. The boat is sparkling clean including the bathrooms. The buffet would need some improvement. Overall it was a pleasant experience for me & my honeys birthday.

Yelp
I had a great time here, the fam and I went on a lunch cruise or 2 hour tour whatever u wanna call it. It was a Motown review and perfect weather. The food is just ok i mean personally I've had better at the Golden Corral but I think it's also the water and the atmosphere and entertainment. I did hate the people who were in the boarding line smoking but that's a different story. The staff was friendly and the water was relaxing. The drinks suck they are overpriced and watered down but again I enjoyed the water and being outside. I'd definitely return for that and the Motown review was good. I don't go here expecting the best meal of my life just feed me.

Yelp
Very nice staff was friendly and welcoming Food was however bland but overall very nice and the Motown band was excellent. We had a great time next time we're going to do the lunch cruise
google avatar

Yelp
The DPR is the second largest riverboat in the country; I was amazed by its size! You can find the boat docked by Cobo Hall, multiple stories high with kitchens and cash bars on each level. The second thing I noticed was how genuinely friendly the staff greeted and handled the guests aboard during our 3 hrs aboard. I could see this being used for large weddings, receptions and other celebrations and can say with confidence the staff will be able to accommodate your party with grace.

Yelp
I simply enjoyed my visit on the Detroit Princess. I planned a date night with my husband for the Motown Cruise on Friday. The tickets were $62 each so I was expecting a great evening. The cost included a buffet style meal, entertainment, and the ambiance of the Detroit and Canadian riverfronts. Upon arriving we parked in the Cobo roof deck, $10. Great secure parking. We didn't have to worry about our vehicle. We got to the boat around 5p. They didn't start boarding us until 5:20p. This was a perfect time to view the boats exterior. The boat looked aged. It's an old bot so I wasn't too surprised by it's appearance. After boarding he boat, I immediately noticed the outdated interior facade. From the old carpet to the furniture. I guess I was expecting more for the ticket price. I was hoping there could have been more modern updates made to the boat to make it more appealing. When we began eating, my husband complained the food (all his food) was cold. We were one of the first to get plates so I told him the food may not have had time to warm up. An hour later the food was pipping hot! The bartenders were excellent making all kinds of drink cocktails. Great service there! The waitstaff was remarkable ensuring dishes were cleared and we received our drinks and desserts timely. The entertainment was fantastic! We simply enjoyed our time. From the fee setbacks we encountered, I would still recommend the Detroit Princess. We may be back next summer. I'm hoping to get a better deal next time. Maybe I can come across a groupon. :)

Yelp
I have been on the boat before but this time was for an event offered by the company I work for. It was a luncheon provided for employees and family at a discount. I rushed to get the boat due to waiting for my friend. They were kind enough to hold the boat until she got there a few minutes late. There are 3 decks. Our event was on the 3rd level. The was a buffet provided. There was stuffed chicken, roast beef, lasagne, veggies and dessert You can go outside to view the Detroit river which can be kind of nice to see. I have also been here in the evenings. It is like a club on the water. There is typically various types of music and dance depending on the day. Overall it is nice that Detroit has a riverboat for people to enjoy.

Yelp
My husband and I went on the evening dinner cruise for our wedding anniversary. Everything was amazing! The food was yummy, the entertainment was fun and the cruise itself was wonderful. I can't figure out why I haven't gone on this before! I plan to tell all my friends about it and hope to go back with a group of family and friends!

Yelp
This was my first time on the Detroit Princess riverboat I have been trying to go for years. I had family come from out of town I thought what a great opportunity to showcase Detroit family loved it I did not the cost was $73 per person because it was a Saturday and a Motown Revue Saturday there was a buffet which was great except it was not keto friendly all I was able to have out of the seven dishes was a salad and roasted chicken there was a cash bar the music was featuring Detroit on prolifics they were great but other than that like I said I didn't feel it was worth $73 I don't think I got my money's worth but because my family loved it I thought that it was a great event overall. Stay positive my Friends and keep yelping

Yelp
The Detroit Princess riverboat was a great way for our group to end our time in Detroit. We worked hard all week to help in the neighborhoods, and were able to unwind and catch up with our group before returning to Chicago. The crew was welcoming, friendly and efficient as we boarded. Directions were helpful, and the room was ready for us. The food, included in the fare, was a well rounded buffet. Most items were excellent, and others were decent, with none which really needed work. The staff was helpful and efficient in cleaning up our plates. The bar is pay as you go, so bring some extra $$$. Entertainment was fun, with a Motown cruise theme and good music. The DJ was OK, but the guys in the retro suits doing some excellent Motown were worth being inside for a bit, on a beautiful evening.

Yelp
I mentioned I had a good experience. The day after I went there,I had a very nasty stomach ache and nausea. I was in bed the whole day. The couple I went with experienced the same symptoms as I (queezy, stomach ache, diarrhea and nausea). The only thing we had in common was eating the beef tips and dessert while on the princess. My wife had other things and did not feel sick at all, but we did. That was the only time we spent with each other in days so we deduced food poisoning of some sort. We drove separate, went home separate, and they did not come with us elsewhere that day, but we all had the same symptoms within 24 hours of each other and it was not a flu. I had a blast on the boat but am concerned the food quality is an issue. Please note I still give a decent review otherwise and as seen in the over 100 other reviews I give that I have not reported similar conditions before. I was hesitant to write this but had shared experiences with others.

Yelp
Rip off!!!!!! Do not do this. They will rip you off. They over book then schedule you for the next day. Show is good but boat operators are crooks

Yelp
A neat little adventure. When you are looking for something unique or a little different for a dinner date, the Princess would be a great choice. The boat is very cool and the trip itself is comfortable and provides spectacular views. The boat travels at a slow relaxing pace and glides pretty smoothly. Food and drinks were plentiful and always available but taste-wise id say average. I could see this being a fun place to host a wedding.
google avatar

Yelp
The Detroit Princess is a GREAT place for a wedding! I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm a Detroit native but live in DC right now; my husband is from the DC area, so we were excited about having a "Detroit destination wedding." The Princess was the perfect venue for that, and would also be the perfect venue for any Detroit locals just looking for something striking and memorable. Several of our guests gushed about how cool it was. It also was a very good deal, IMO. I heard some guests were worried that they'd get seasick, but not one of them felt ill; you can't feel the boat moving except for when it takes off, really. Moreover, the staff was very easy to work with. Sandy was our event manager leading up to it, and she was more on top of things than I was, for which I was grateful! Chris ran the show on the day of the event. We had storms descending upon us the day of our wedding, and it was a last-minute call as to whether we'd be able to have the ceremony outside on the top deck, like it is in most of the pictures. Unfortunately, we had to make the call (and it was the right one as the rain opened up precisely when our ceremony started) to have it indoors -- but never fear if that happens to you, because they had set up Deck 1 *just in case* we made that last minute call to have it inside, even though they were prepared to set up Deck 4 if we asked them to. Chris had been monitoring the weather all day and it was on his expert calculation on the pace of the storm that we held it inside. And the indoor space was beautiful as well, so we ended up liking it! The sun did come out for a glorious sunset with big cumulus clouds on the horizon at the end, and everyone had a fantastic time. In addition to Sandy and Chris, all rest of the staff were also extremely friendly and welcoming. Thank you to the Detroit Princess team for a fantastic wedding day!

ENTERTAINMENT: ============== 4-Piece band will play music outside of the ship as you get on board and will play a few songs on stage on your level and then come to each person's table and play a max of two songs per table at your request. They carried a "Tip Jar" every where they went. And you pay inadvance for all tips when u buy your ticket. I thought that wasn't nice of them to do. They also played a few showboat and dixie land tunes. BATHROOMS =========== Women's Restroom - 2nd Level ======================= closed - Women were instructed to go to another level to use it. One woman complained to me that the toliet was leaking on the floor so her pants got wet as she was sitting on the toliet. She felt embarrased. Men's Restroom - 2nd Level ===================== Floors and walls were very dirty, Sinks and mirrors were clean. Both bathroom stills doors wouldn't attach to locks and not lock securely. Bathroom walls tiles near the toliet were removed and missing installation. Bathroom is handicapped accessible for electric carts. Fully stocked: Toliet paper, Soap and Paper towel. If deceided to wait till I got home to use the restroom. SHIP SUGGESTIONS ================= Have the Detroit Health Department and U.S. Coast Guard do a through inspection to make sure the ship is worthy to leave port with a safe and clean ship. Fix or replace the Air Conditioning unit that you advertise as offering "Air Conditioned Ship" as it does not work, For a 65 degree day and cloudy outside, It felt like 85 degrees inside the ship dining room.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day for an evening cruise June 17th and the views from the boat were lovely. Don't forget to go outside and go up all the levels to see a different view and get pictures with the sunset! Can also grab a small table on the deck outside after dinner. I loved the dinner menu, it worked for me. Delicious mushrooms to go with your prime rib, tortellini with a creamy sauce, veggies and salad were good. Also had chicken which was seasoned and baked well. The live band was good, however, the music throughout the entire time was so loud, I wasn't able to easily speak to my family and enjoy their company around the dinner table nearly the whole time unless we went outside. And unfortunately, the time I spent outside observing the view was tainted by a CONSTANT smell of weed everywhere you went. This is my biggest complaint, I am surprised the boat allows this. We had children in our party as well. The extra loud music, and the weed smell everywhere outside is why I gave 3 stars. Fix those issues and this would easily be a more enjoyable boat ride.

Yelp
We went on a moonlight cruise for a friend's birthday. I had fun and would probably go again but I'd do a few things differently -We did not have to rush for the boarding was supposed to end at 10:30. We ended up sitting around for an hour before the boat actually left -They said the dress was business casual, but most people were dressed pretty casually and some of us felt a little overdressed -It was kind of chilly outside, and next time I might bring a sweater or something Overall it was okay. I kind of expected they'd run out of food really quickly, but there was plenty of food all night. I thought it was pretty good too, so that was a pleasant surprise. The drinks were semi-expensive and they were reeeally strong. Their alcohol selection was kind of crappy. I liked that there was different music on each floor, but I didn't think there was an awesome selection on any of the floors. I also wasn't expecting to get patted down before getting on the boat - it wasn't a huge deal for me but it was definitely unexpected.

Yelp
My military group booked a cruise for last hurrah formal Navy ball, celebrating the end of the line as our battalion was decommissioned at Selfridge ANG Base in Mount Clemens that morning. There was much sadness during the morning ceremony, and the ball was meant as a celebration. The Detroit Princess Riverboat accommodated our group well. The Chief's Association negotiated a $44 per person charge for the evening's festivities, all inclusive. At last count, we had 425+ persons in attendance generally from a 4 state area. Somehow, the boat staff managed to squeeze all of us on the 2nd deck. It was a shoe-horn squeeze, but we adapted to our intimate surroundings. As we boarded, a photographer was on hand to take souvenir photos, collecting $10 for each. While our group was loading, the staff was preparing drinks at the open bar. Our opening ceremony went well, and soon we were underway. Staff prepared the 2 food lines and everyone was soon working their way through the 'chow lines' and back to their tables. Ours was a buffet-type spread, having carved beef offered at the end tables of each line. After the meal, our program continued, all the while drinks continued to flow. A couple trips to the fore deck yielded spectacular views of the Detroit and Windsor skylines. Unfortunately, a rain storm accompanied us on our journey that evening, so the outside view of the trip was short-lived as rain continued to fall. Once docked, we were able to make our way back, using a shuttle provided by the downtown Holiday Inn Express on Washington Street. Numerous taxis were also available dockside and the wait lines were never long. All in all, the evening cruise was a total success, even though many of us were sad to see our group of friends for the very last time. Boat staff did an outstanding job of attending to our needs. The DJ played whenever we weren't conducting various parts of our ceremony. I would highly recommend this venue as an alternative to one of the local halls and banquet facilities in southeast Michigan.

Yelp
Was just there this last Saturday and it was awesome! We had great weather and the views were breathtaking during our Saturday lunch cruise. Overall we had a great experience. We spent most of our time out on deck after the meal so we only got to see a couple of songs by the Prolifics but they were great from what I saw and I'm not a big Motown girl. The food for buffet style was better than what I expected. It was turned over very quickly with the amount of people on board and refilled super fast with piping hot fresh food. The chicken, potatoes and tortellini were my favorites. The line moved fast and you were able to make as many return trips that you wanted. Dessert was a slice of pound cake with a scoop of ice cream and a few fresh sliced strawberries. The bathrooms were nice and clean, the waiters were friendly. They could really use more help at the bar though. At many times there was a 20 min wait, other times just a couple of minutes. That was the only disappointing thing about the trip for the soda refills on your souvenir glass was waiting at the bar line. I got our three tickets at 25% off due to the Entertainment book coupon/app... that made it much more affordable. We had a great time and would probably do it again one day! I would give it a 4.5 because of the slow refills but that was it!

Yelp
I'm really torn about this experience. We went on the Detroit Princess in mid-July to celebrate a 25th Wedding Anniversary with another couple. We were charged $75/person. We were greeted as we boarded 45 minuted before the cruise began. After finding a table in the dining area we noted the food buffet was already opened to guests. We got in line and several food items were empty and needed replacing. The food we ate was not good, reminiscent of really bad wedding food. Things picked up once the cruise down the river began. The weather was perfect, the scenery was awesome and we really enjoyed the setting sun along the Detroit skyline. There were several large gatherings on the boat. A family reunion, a birthday party, and a work/retirement party. Things got loud at times. There were also several smaller groups. There seemed to be enough room to move away from the crowds. The take away that sums up our experience? Thumbs down on the food, thumbs up on the ride, thumbs down on overall value for the money.. I would give it an extra half-star if I could.

Yelp
I want to give 5 stars for the live music and performers. But it's 3 stars for overall experience. The performers really made the night worth our time. The ticket was $67 per person. I'm not sure how I feel about the price given that the music and entertainment was great but the food was not. The boat is older, not updated in any way but now that I think about it that's probably part of the experience too. The restrooms were clean. Although there was a buffet, no one from our table got up for seconds and I didn't even finish what I had. They had salad, a pasta, veggie lasagna, pork and steak. The chicken was in some kind of sauce... maybe the steak and pork were good... I wouldn't know. The River Punch cocktail was very yummy and that was about it. When you enter they take a picture of you against a riverboat backdrop. The quality of the picture isn't that great but given that we were tourists and wanted a "souvenir" we bought the picture for $15. Not sure it was worth it. You are not allowed to take pictures against the backdrop on your phone/camera-that's fair, it's a business and they want to make money. As I mentioned above the Motown performers had great voices, nice selection of music and Motown dance moves. They made the cruise really fun. They gave the audience opportunities to make requests and a someone even got up and sang with the group. The boat goes around the river several times. I think we were on the boat for at least 3 hours. Once the live music is over the DJ plays top 40 music. This is a kid friendly place, there was a group of little girls there for a birthday party and that was cute. It was too windy and rainy to enjoy the views on the deck but I can imagine it's a lot better with better weather. During some parts of the cruise, our phones began "roaming" and picking up Canadian phone service providers so make sure you are on airplane mode to avoid unnecessary roaming charges. We walked over from the Marriott so can't comment on the parking situation here. I would return for the music but I'd come with a full belly.

Yelp
Went for New Years eve, they only have Jack Daniel's on one of the three bars on the boat. They said they couldn't afford to have it on all three levels. So there's that. Staff is friendly, food is banquet quality but ok. Probably not something I'd do again but not something I regret doing.

Yelp
If you want to get a nice trip and enjoy the skylines of Detroit & Canada, then you will want to hop onboard! Take a real camera with you if you want good pictures, the phone cam does not do the skylines justice.

Yelp
Food was delicious... Music was excellent... Views were fantastic... Boat was smooth... Would 100% do this again!

Yelp
Drinks: overpriced and crap. They didn't have any mixers on board so I hope you like (alcohol) + coke because that's all they have. Food: I've never been a fan of buffets and this one didn't convert me. Service: bartenders were oddly in a bad mood. I don't know if they don't enjoy their jobs or what but every question I asked was answered with a variation of "I can't do that".

Yelp
My husband and I, with a couple of our friends, attended the Father's Day Lunch Cruise. It was a beautiful day for a cruise. However, the Buffet left a lot to be desired. I noticed that the menu is the same for each cruise. The food is bland, lackluster and has NO taste. The menu mentioned vegetarian lasagna; it was not there. Instead there was some overcooked mushrooms and a cheese tortellini that made me want to regurgitate. T'he cost per person warrants at least tasty food! Please hire a new chef and CHANGE the menu!!! I wont give away another $134 to the Detroit Princess Riverboat Cruise. Soooo disappointing!

Yelp
We had a great time on the Detroit Princess. We did the father's day motown dinner cruise. The food was great....prime rib, chicken, salmon, veggie lasagne, strawberry shortcake for dessert. Cash bar. The entertainment was fun, the boat ride itself was relaxing and we got good weather. The staff were nice and helpful. It was a nice outing. It is a little pricey ($55 per person), but we had a 25% coupon from the entertainment book. Definitely a nice idea for a date night or a family activity.

Yelp
Friends and I went to celebrate a birthday. None of us had experienced the Detroit Princess or a Murder Mystery event before. So we figured, 2 new things, one great night. There are really 4 aspects of our evening that I will concentrate on. The Boat itself. I am sure it has seen better days. I did not feel unsafe, but there was a terrible leak in the ladies room on the 3rd deck. This was probably form air conditioner condensation. But it splashed me the whole time I was using the potty. Also the whole ship smelled mildewy. I am very sensitive to smell and I can't stand musty/mildew smells. I just figured I am not used to being on a boat. It was not overwhelming. The outer decks were fine, and maintained. The best part of the boat is being on the outer decks. The Food. It was really bad. The best thing was the cheese ball and crackers they serve at the beginning. The salad was pretty good, but I had a few pieces of brown, slimy leafs in mine. There were also fruit flies buzzing around. I HATE fruit flies...read my other reviews and I will mention it every time I see one. The roast beef, or 'Prime Rib' as it was advertised, was edible, but it was not a huge hunk of steak. It was like when you go to the Old Country Buffet and get a slim slice of steak from the beef carver. Every single side dish was gross. The "salmon" was covered in some bread crumbs, and smelled extremely fishy. I would not touch it and I LOVE salmon. Even the bread sticks were bad! Horrible food. The Murder Mystery Show. It was okay. The actors were pretty good, and they were funny. The plot was kind of stupid. They did not have any costumes. I was disappointed about that. I was expecting it to be a bit more elaborate, especially for the price we paid. I would definitely try a murder mystery again elsewhere. The Riverboat Experience. I loved it. It was so nice to see the city from the river. I am in love with Detroit to my core, and it was a very nice evening weather-wise. The best part of the cruise experience was being on the outer deck and watching the scenery. I would recommend to anyone that they do this at least once. However, I did learn something.... The Breakdown....Do not go for a dinner cruise. It was a lot of money and I would have rather spent my time outside. I would do this again, but eat at one Detroit's phenomenal restaurants instead. Heck even the Coney Island would have had more satisfying food! The Moonlight cruise is only $30 on a Saturday night, compared to the $70 we paid. Less than half and you get the best part of the experience. The Sunday night moonlight cruise was only $20. I gave 4 stars because I think everyone should do this, and for out-of-town guests, this would be a great activity. Just don't let them eat the food, or they may never forgive you!

Yelp
If it were only for the food (is there such a thing as boat-buffet style food? 'Cause that seems to fit! Lots of cheese on everything!), I wouldn't add on an additional star. However, this cruise on the river was a much fuller experience than merely a floating buffet! First of all, the boat is huge! There are 4 separate decks, which is pretty interesting. As a part of a Supper Club event, we were seated on the 2nd floor, which was expansive -- I'd say that it could accommodate 400-500 people just on that deck. Yet another deck had a large banquet style room as well, which was closed off for a private meeting with some suits and coffee inside. And then, on the top deck was the "Party Deck," where there was a wild graduation party going on. The kids were having a great time, and the DJ played the Cupid Shuffle, which I'd just heard on a boat in Chicago the week before. If there's boat cuisine, I guess there's also particular "boat music," huh? ;) The overall highlight of the cruise is just sitting in the chairs or standing beside the railing outside -- feeling the breeze and seeing Detroit and Windsor from the river. You'll likely spot (and perhaps be passed by) a handful of freighters - with port locations listed on them from Canada to Hong Kong. The runner-up for the cruise highlight, though, is the Motown Revue done by the Prolifics. Yes, it's a wee bit cheesy, but these men are true performers and put their heart, soul and sweat into putting on a show -- complete with dapper matching suits and well-coordinated moves. They have a tip jar, and they full-on earned the bill my fella dropped in. They put the "entertainment" of 2 singing waitresses on my recent Spirit of Chicago cruise to shame (Sorry, Chicago)! I love both cities, but when it comes to partying on a boat, from what I've seen, not much can beat Motown-style entertainment. I just wish they'd had a live backing band... but then again, I realize even how much *more* expensive that would likely make the cruise. It's a bit too pricey for me to take this cruise without a special deal, but I have to say that I relished the view, the entertainment, and all. Yup, it was a bit cheesy/kitschy, but in the best possible way!

Yelp
I cannot thank the entire staff enough for making our wedding the best night we have ever had. Yes, I do mean ever. We planned a very non traditional wedding garden party on a riverboat in less than two weeks and from New York. We put a lot of faith in Chris and his staff. All of our questions were answered (I am an event planner so I had a lot of specific questions) through email communication. There is little to no cell service once you're on the water but text was easy once we were aboard decorating. It's for our nation's safety so just work with it. The decor of the boat did a lot of the decorating for us which was nice. It allowed us to keep decorating simple and personalized. Focusing upon our table and the guest tables. We initially booked the 4th floor but our party grew, a bigger room became available and we were upgraded! We chose to go with outside catering based upon our family's dietary needs. Highly suggest the third floor room. Easily fit our DJ, 13 tables, the bar was elegant and tended very well, plenty of room for 100-50 guests, it was easy to walk around and really embrace the time with our guests which was top priority for us. From the time you arrive, to the moment you leave the boat the staff is right along side of you helping you with anything. Our girl Brittney (come with a copy of your wedding agenda for her and she will keep things flowing because it goes quickly) was within our eye sight throughout the whole event. She did an amazing job and her crew must really respect her a leader because we waited not wanted for nothing. The bathrooms are attended by the most entertaining ladies I have ever met. I was glad they were they keeping me hysterically laughing and very helpful. The ceremony took place on the 4th floor overlooking the Joe Louis Arena and the Ambassador Bridge plus the breathtaking view of the Detroit River. It was really windy on our day so be prepared to just go with it and enjoy. The sun was right above us. It was a gorgeous day all in all but the wind made it difficult to hear the officiant (referred to us by Chris from DPR and whom we adored) and if we would have given her a microphone it would have just picked up the wind. Go with the elements. Its a chance you take when you decide to get married on a Riverboat so relax and go with it, its fabulous. The Reception Cruise was fascinating! I spent a lot of time on that river while attending U of M Dearborn, so it really added to an already stellar evening. The cruise and your ceremony start at the same time. You do feel like your on a boat so remind your guests they may want to prepare for slight sea legs. We floated to the Ambassador Bridge coasted for a while than made our way back to the docks. There is parking available in the Cobo Hall Parking lot people. Which can be accessed along the river so if you get to Jefferson Avenue and think you're there, you're not. There is a street just passed the Security Box at Hart Plaza so keep going. There is parking. We had to quickly wrap up our wedding because a storm was rolling in. Which the entire staff pitched in to help us. I did get caught in a hail storm by the time I got to Jefferson Avenue but I expect that is just great luck. A drenched bride, a bottle of champagne, and her best friend in tow. I can't really think of a better way to get married. The next day when we were checking out of the hotel, the bellman said, "oh it was you're wedding getting turnt up on that boat last night?" Now that's a Detroit wedding. I would recommend this venue for any event. Top of the line professionalism. Thank you all very much. ~ The Lincolns

Yelp
Lots of fun! Boat is massive, food could have been better but overall a great experience! For 56 bucks per person we were on the boat for 3 and 1/2 hours which was great. Weather was perfect and we had an amazing view of Canada.
