Detroit Restaurants, Caterers Hit With Order and Event Cancellations Due to Coronavirus - Eater Detroit

"Dr. Sushi, a popular pop-up and catering service in Detroit, is facing significant financial loss due to event cancellations caused by the coronavirus. Chef Nick George had to cancel a major event for a Japanese car supplier and is worried about future bookings including weddings and sporting events. The uncertainty around the virus has led to a rise in last-minute cancellations, impacting both revenue and employee wages." - Brenna Houck

The sushi was good, no tempura sushi which is my favorite. But a delicious fried tofu sushi, and drinks were strong beautiful and delicious

The menu is very limited and items are a bit pricey. We were happy we got there during happy hour and took advantage of some specials. We started with the Sunomono, which is made of kikurage (a mushroom), cucumber, and ginger. It is very very gingery along with a vinegar flavor. It wasn’t for my palette, but I was glad to have tried it (I don’t care for ginger, so kinda hard to love something with a strong ginger flavor when you don’t love it… so please don’t let my taste buds deter you if you like ginger). We got the rainbow roll and it was very good. The fish is very fresh and the roll had wonderful flavor. We also had the spicy tuna (happy hour special), a shrimp California roll (happy hour special), and a plum avocado roll. All 3 were nicely done. I haven’t ever had a plum avocado roll before. The plum was a bit of a plum-vinegar-jam. It had a very distinct flavor good for sharing. I wouldn’t want to eat an entire roll. The music is old school…50s and 60s Motown. High ceilings with great light. Absolutely my vibe. Our server was excellent.

Everything that I love about Midtown is what this place is; quaint and laid back. Its local vibes. They have a lot of the traditional varieties of sushi and the bar makes craft and traditional drinks. Definitely my new favorite spot. Had a nice dinner chatting with Sam (the bar manager) and Shinya (the head chef) all evening. They also have a happy hour that ends at 7pm 🤗.

Food tasted amazing when it did arrive. Even though we waited longer than we should have, the manager and wait staff were both there with an honest apology, and to make it right for us. We still made the DSO show in plenty of time, as they're literally a walk across Woodward. Thanks Detroit Sushi, your team rocks, we'll definitely be back!

We’ve been here before but we’ve been meaning to try out Chef Shinya’s omakase option, where you pick the price and he makes a certain number of dishes based on that — a unique experience! Everything was fresh and delicious and well-balanced. I’ve never had truffle on sushi before but it was amazing. I actually think this is one of the best sushi spots in the city :) Great service and vibe, we’ll definitely be back!

Nigiri had a very pungent and fishy odor with a questionable texture. Water had a bug inside. Fruit flies were flying around the table. I’ve had sushi from a list of places and I’d rather get kroger sushi than this place.

The chef and bartender were so nice. They made me a custom roll which was the best I’ve had in my life. It was so cute, I wish I could have seen them busier

Well I have been to Bada,Ronin,Noble and more. The location was very convenient to our event and that my friends was the truly positive note. Let's start with the paper menu that looks like it came from a home printer. There were less than ten sushi and about the same or less Nigiri choices. The Rainbow roll was $26 which much higher than Noble and smaller. So our bill with a couple of drinks for 2 people was $175. Ouch! It is hard to tell if this restaurant is really committed to their art. To my 200,000 plus readers I can tell you keep your money.
