Google
Detroit Taco Company is the best taco place HANDS DOWN! We come here every week for “Taco Tuesday” and get city street tacos with steak and their hot mandarin salsa. The hot mandarin salsa is SO GOOD that we always get a huge bowl of it every time. The staff has been amazing and we’re now considered “regulars” and their faces light up when we walk in the door. Great food, good mood!

Google
Cilantro heads up: if you are allergic to cilantro or have the gene that makes it taste like soap, your options are limited. That said, they did work with me and made sure I enjoyed a cilantro free experience. Their chips are SO GOOD. I didn't even need the salsa. The beef was well seasoned. Prices are reasonable. Everyone was so nice!

Google
Detroit taco company was a major disappointment. The good to go tacos are supposed to come with chicken, cheese and a sauce packet... which they did. The problem is only half the taco was filled and with barely any cheese. I also am not a fan of the sauce packet being put on the outside of the taco, it seems unsanitary. Now for the Detroit taco. All I tasted was beans. I had to scrape them off to actually be able to taste the rest of the ingredients. The hard shell was extremely soggy as well. As for the service, another miss by them. They didn't give me the sour cream I paid for, I couldn't add any side of lettuce to my order so I put it in the comment sections to be put on the side and that didn't happen. If I'm paying $18 for 5 tacos it won't be from here again.

Google
The food was amazing. I only got the three tacos. Someone came out and warned me about the hot salsa. I had already eaten a spoonful and decided it was wonderful. Everyone was kind and caring and concerned that we didn't overdo the spice. I probably won't go back to this particular one because it's not near me. I will be going to the one that is near me.

Google
Super cute place to eat with beautiful artwork displayed on the walls. First time here with my daughter, and we absolutely loved the food and the friendly staff. It is also a very clean environment. We definitely will be back again with the entire family and friends. Detroit Taco Company located at 2199 Crooks Rd. in Troy, Michigan is a place to go and eat delicious Mexican food.

Google
I LOVE this place! I got to say that I’m not a big fan of tacos/mexican food but the food here is SO SO SO GOOD! The Gratiot Smash wrap is the BEST thing on the menu BY FAR! Staff is friendly and environment is great too! GRATIOT SMASHWRAP FOR THE WIN BABY!

Michael Tinsley

Google
This place was actually really good, I forget the name of what I got, it was a like a crunchwarp supreme and a bowl of rice. It was all good and spicy. The team were all cool guys that took care of me and my family. I'd definitely go back.

Wendy Harris

Google
The food was average, three of us visited. However, Javon waited on us and made the visit completely enjoyable & worthwhile at the Detroit location. We hope that his boss will see this, Javon was so fun, helpful & went above & beyond. ✌🏼❤️

Yelp
Amazing Tacos. Great service. Highly recommend. The Steak Bowl is my favorite. The meat was a so tender and juicy. I tried it once on my lunch break and I became addicted to it.

Claire C.

Yelp
First of all, the staff is very nice. The decor is deconstructed and industrial. The topping options are minimal and pre-set. The chicken quesadilla was very pricey for a small, thin quesadilla with no side. I don't think I'll be back, but I respect the vision of the restaurant.

Michelle W.

Yelp
The food is always good. Services is excellent. Not sure why they don't have a 5 start rating.

Craig P.

Yelp
First time ordering Detroit taco Company I got the classic Detroit taco two additional corn shell tacos, a cheese quesadilla and a chicken quesadilla. Chips and salsa. Pick up time was right on schedule. The food taste great and we will be ordering again.

C M.

Yelp
Detroit Taco is consistently ok for mexican street food but getting pricy for what it is. At least it's always clean and spacious with ample parking plus the location is pretty good with prompt service. The meals come with chips and salsa and you can dine-in or take out. Online ordering also available. My order was $27 for 6 pork street tacos and a coke which feels painful for what you get. My review back in 2020 got removed for mentioning this place reminded me of a famous soup kitchen skit in seinfeld. It must have worked because they are much nicer now.

Cosimo D.

Yelp
The office I work at orders here about once every 6-8 weeks, and I dig it! First off, I refuse to go to any Mexican/Taco restaurant that doesn't serve black beans, and they most certainly serve them here. They are well seasoned and delicious. The Smashwrap is THE ILLEST! It's like a stuffed tortilla/pita, stuffed with the freshest ingredients and tons of melted cheese. The street tacos, which are my go to at any southwest restaurant, come two ways (suburb or city style), and both are worth a try. The quesadillas & burritos are also super filling and reasonably priced. The service is great, but wait times are the only thing stopping a perfect score in my book. DEF go try this place out!

Mark L.

Yelp
Stopped in for a couple of quick tacos in the middle of the day.. I opted for the crispy shredded chicken. Uninspiring. I didn't think the chicken had much flavor. The tacos came with a packet of hot sauce. Service was friendly. The tacos were delivered quickly. Restaurant was clean with tables to sit at. The restaurant has a "Detroit" sorta theme with a wall mural. All around "meh" for me.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Ordered online and it said it would be almost 25 mins for my Suburb Style - Ground Beef tacos (3 flour tortilla tacos), and this was during off-time, not high peak meal times. Food was sitting on the carry out shelf inside the door when I picked it up, not hot anymore, so arrive early when you order online. Tacos meat was so greasy it had saturated the wrappers (they didn't pack any napkins, so that was fun!). Aside from that unappetizing feature, the beef was seasoned in some type of spice that didn't taste quite right--can't quite put my finger on what it was... Do I need to go back? No. Id much ether try one of the other local taco joints nearby.

Lisa G.

Yelp
It was our first time here and I must say we loved everything about this place! It is carry out only right now. Around the food prep area there is nice solid plexiglass. All employees had masks on properly and were wearing gloves. The place was super neat and clean. We got chicken tacos, beef tacos, quesadillas and chips and salsa and everything was SO good!! We've been looking for a good Mexican place and I think we have found it! All our food was nice and hot and cooked perfectly! We will definitely be back!!

Brandon M.

Yelp
Food is okay, service was fine. But they messed up my order. Got a steak smashwrap and they forgot to put the hard corn shell in it, that gives it that crunch. Bad experience for my first time. Churros were good tho

Yelp
I stopped by here on Saturday close to 2:15 and it wasn't busy at all. I did see a few people grab to-go. I had seen this pop up on yelp as a new location and decided to try it out. The nachos appealed to me! I asked for their recommendations on rice and the guy said he liked Mexican rice. I put some black beans on top and then asked the other guy what kind of meat they preferred. Mexican chicken? Alrighty! Sounds good to me! He added the warm queso on top and then I asked for lettuce and the chipotle salsa since it's medium heat. Wow! So yummy! And all for $7.95! That's less than chipotle and qdoba! I'm so coming back here again! I'm open to trying their burritos and tacos as well. It's a pretty unassuming, free-standing building right off of Crooks. There's lots of parking. The space isn't huge inside so I wonder how busy it gets. Customer service was great! They quick and pretty personable! They also have some great suggestions!

Dina R.

Yelp
Love the food and the customer service is top notch! Clean and friendly! My favorite thing are the nachos with the medium salsa!!!

Breanna W.

Yelp
Amazing food, great customer service, highly recommend the Detroit tacos and chips with queso!

Jeff A.

Yelp
This place isn't quite sure what it is. It is set up like Chipotle, has the menu items of a street taco shop, but is not as good as either. I ordered their standard tacos (which aren't cheap) and when I asked for some salsa, they directed me to a pile of cholula packets on the counter. No fresh salsa? I'd overlook that if the food was better. It's not. Next time just go to one of dozens of more authentic taco shops in the area. It'll be cheaper and way better. Or go to Chipotle or Qdoba, for the same reasons.

Bri V.

Yelp
I have never been so sad (and still hungry) after eating tacos. I figured taco was in the name so that's what I should try and that was clearly a poor decision. The tacos are overpriced for what they are. $8 for 3 tiny street tacos that just had rice and beans. They were dry and hard to swallow. I have had much better street tacos that have tons of flavor.

Jen M.

Yelp
I ordered some for me and some for my kids and the sitter. 2 birds. We ordered the Curbside Combo take out for 6 adults. Black and pinto beans guacamole cheese wraps meat. It's DIY and easy to serve. Great for a large group and anyone with allergies. We got street tacos DF GF for the other 2 that needed it. 1 beef and 1 chicken with plenty of leftovers. Food arrived as if we were eating in house. Everything tasted great and everyone was happy at a reasonable price.

Doug R.

Yelp
Three pork tacos were $9.50. Not seasoned Al Pastor pork. Good ingredients, but not Mexican/Hispanic/tasty. Not a good value. Excellent COVID sanitation. Carry-our only for now. Will not return.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
I mean... not inexpensive! I have followed their social media for a while now and was passing this location so stopped in. The shredded chicken bowl (just under $7) came with 2 flour tortillas - which to me defeats the purpose of the bowl, but... - was delicious. The chunks of chicken were many, large, and full of flavor! I opted for the medium salsa, which was flavorful and spicy but not hot. Just right! The chips and guac (a bit chunky and very fresh) are good - nearly $8!! - and you get a decent amount for leftovers. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and I'll be back for more! There are weekly, reasonable specials so definitely something for every budget!

Amy B.

Yelp
Ok, this place isn't half bad and I liked it. I was out and about and didn't want a huge meal. I figured I'd give this place a try since I drive by it from time to time. Walking in, the place is cute. There's a walk up line where you order and they make your food as you go down the line. You have a few choices of food to choose from. Tacos, burritos and some nachos are the ones I remember. You also have an option of Mexican rice and white rice to choose from. Um, why would you want white rice? I went with the two tacos, and had a ton of choices. Chicken, beef, fish pork (ew) are the main options here. I chose beef, of course and went with a side of rice and beans. They also have fountain pop and mexican pop and beverages as well. I went with a fountain pop! The tacos themselves were actually good. Not the greatest I've ever had, but actually good. I was stuffed when I was done. I will say, the rice and beans were kind of a let down. It was either black or pinto beans and I don't think it would have made a difference which one's I got. I just didn't like them. It kind of made me think of Chipotle. The Mexican rice was okay, but lacked any sort of pep, and was kind of bland. I mean, it was okay, but could have used a bit more spice. Overall, I really liked it here. They also have an upstairs seating area, but I wasn't feeling all that great so I sat downstairs. Service here was friendly and helpful, which really made my first experience even better. I would gladly return if in the area since I really did like it so much.

Lynn G.

Yelp
I went here yesterday for dinner. I was very very happy with the service and food!!! If I could give them more than 5 stars I certainly would. I ordered one of the crunchy beef tacos and a shredded chicken taco. Both were absolutely perfect! There literally wasn't one drop of grease in the container. That's how good quality food should be. The restaurant was very clean and all staff were wearing masks properly and had gloves on handling the food. I will definitely be giving this place a lot more business. The only thing I wish they had were margaritas!

Harry R.

Yelp
First of all it's Tacos in suburban Troy so don't expect authenticity, bold flavors, big portions or a unique menu. There's nothing inherently wrong with the restaurant. I found it very clean with friendly service. I just don't believe it's a compelling value considering the quality of the food.

Alex W.

Yelp
Don't screw around...Eat here! Fresh, messy, and delicious! I had to get a second order! I got the Pork City Street Tacos the first round and Steak City Street Tacos the second round. Incredible

Myndi G.

Yelp
So, for the guacamole I would say, yes it would be a nice place to go for some guacamole. But for the actual food, the actual "street tacos". They have still a lot to learn. They are sub par to say the least. I left very sad in hopes that they were going to be amazing! I purchased one of each street taco, the pork, was what barely saved the day. Would I recommend, no for sure not. For some quick made gauc, sure I guess. They reminded me as to why I always just have a go to for some for real, can always count on, and amazing food, to a place I came across a few years back, Los Tortuga's. So I'm gonna spend money on some street tacos it's going to be there. They are perfection. Seriously, every single time, thank you Detroit taco for reminding me.

John G.

Yelp
Ordered the fiesta for four and the 6 for $11 and it was perfect for 4 adults and 4 kids! Can't beat the flavors at these prices

Barrel O.

Yelp
Best place to eat tacos at a reasonable price with fresh ingredients in the Troy area. Probably good advice to take the previous, Elite-ist comments on this location with a grain of salt; especially since they felt the need to Yelp about places like Dairy Queen, Chuck E Cheese's, and Home Goods, as if. Pros of DTC: - Fresh ingredients - Reasonably priced - Clean interior - Jarritos...Jarritos with your tacos! So 'Elite' ;) Cons of DTC: - Expeditor (e.g., dresses the tacos with salsa, etc) is clueless about menu, what's on it, how to memorize what people order. I had to repeat my order of what's exactly on the menu, word for word, four times before it sunk in. - Menu with Solo Tacos, pre-determined ingredients, should have ALL the ingredients listed (see other photos, e.g., fish tacos come with a Baja Sauce [mayo-based] but it's not listed). This leads to confusion on customers part and more work having the expeditor ask what the customer wants of the ingredients they never knew were on the food in the first place There's room for improvement, but the place, staff and organization of work is new. I will be back again!

Rolly S.

Yelp
Queso was great! Food was great! I would recommend they get some type of corn that can be added. Inside is clean, it would be helpful if there was menus on the window where your ordering so you have all the options in front of you.

Mercedes V.

Yelp
No dining but take out is implemented. Staff wear mask and gloves except for the cashier, no gloves. Payment thru credit card is encouraged. Restroom not open to the public. Pricey compared to Chipotle. I come here usually for the taco Tuesday $2 a piece. We end up with the $12 taco bowl with pulled pork. It was good. Serving portion was good for two. No left over. Medium salsa was spicy. Highly recommend Detroit Taco if you're into Chipotle. Fresh ingredients, crispy chips and great tasting pork shreds. More tacos please!

Lauren J.

Yelp
The base of all tacos is the meat (or protein for our awesome vegetarian). Its a shame because everything else was on point, but the meat was not seasoned and was greasy. I got the ground beef and I would not recommend. Definitely try the other meats though because the rest of the tacos were so delicious. Also a recommendation to the company to do steak or asada because the ground beef is not in and the formation of the taco is too good for the low quality meat.

Vince S.

Yelp
Yea this place def not good , drive on by .. No bar , tacos are just not worth the stop - TacoBell is not far off the mark , I hate to say - and 1/2 the price .. It's too bad - it's in the area :/ we def need a really good mexican restaurant in the area ... One is opening at maple & Coolidge - time will tell. I do wish this place was better - i support local Biz & always across the parking Lot getting take away from La Saj

Andrey T.

Yelp
Hate to knock a business trying to make the best of a bad situation, but it was so much better before. I would stop by here occasionally and it was decent. Not great not bad but decent. They always had two dollar taco Tuesdays. Pre-Covid it was any taco made how you like it for two dollars. Now, a $2 taco is just a tortilla with a smattering of stewed chicken, a couple shreds of cheese and a packet of Cholula sauce on the side. Typically, the stewed chicken is my favorite. However, this time it was bland and flavorless. When businesses struggle, they need to make sure standards don't slide. This place need to get back to decent.

Alex B.

Yelp
Well... it's about the flavor you'd expect from a taco place in Troy. The one up side was that the staff was really nice and the service was quick. However, for $33 bucks we got a burrito the size of a large taco and a burrito bowl with about 10 spoonfuls of food in it. Don't think I'll be coming back.

Marielle M.

Yelp
They started making my order an hour after I ordered it online. I waited 20 minutes inside because I was notified it was ready. Thankfully, I really liked the food and it was worth it. Loved how the tacos were wrapped with a sauce packet. The ground beef was really good and the chicken was a bit dry but good with the sauce. I'll definitely be back.

Lori R.

Yelp
Ordered from Grubhub, food arrived cold. Got the chicken tacos, too much pepper and lack of flavor. Salsa was bland and chips were oily. Very disappointed, not recommended. My husband ordered the chicken quesadillas, also cold. He says they were a 3 out of 5 on the quesadilla scale, which I think may be overly generous since he hates hurting peoples feelings. We won't be eating here again. Life is too short for mediocre tacos.

Dennis R.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch today. Inside atmosphere is all hard surfaces. Shallow entry bring you right up to the order station. Only menu I saw was a piece of paper listing was was available. Cashier was friendly but seemed distant. He tried to help. Didn't seem like a wide offering but the name says tacos so what would you expect. There was some counter seating and a few tables around the corner. I went for the tables. While eating I saw wait staff appear to be taking orders upstairs. I hadn't noticed the stairs but I believe there is additional seating upstairs. Food was fresh and tasted good. I ordered the signature taco and it came piled high with ingredients. Prices were good. It's not a dinner place but if you want a quick lunch or carry out I would recommend it.

Daniel T.

Yelp
Fresh. Tasty. Filling. Clean. I got 2 Detroit Tacos and a side of rice and beans. Fresh cilantro on there was so good (optional of course.) Didn't even make it to the rice and beans before I was full. The person that helped me was very nice. Cooking area is very well glassed-off from the line, and all staff in masks. Happy to find this location. I used to work in Royal Oak and eat at their (now-gone) location all the time. I also work in Shelby Township so I'll be checking out the location there too. UPDATE: Returned a few days later. Chips and queso are really good. I'll be getting the jumbo order next time. Also got the shredded pork Smashwrap. I really like their pinto beans (refried) but it was a bit heavy on the beans for me. I'll order extra meat next time.

Dr. F.

Yelp
Never again will I order from here again. I last ordered from here back in July of 2021 and a number of changes has come to affect my decision to order from here again. #1 the size of there tacos have reduced in size by 30-40% #2 a increase in there pricing which is minor to me cause I know how covid has affected them. #3 they now charge a .99 service fee where it states that it goes to the restaurant not the employees but the restaurant (isn't that the price of doing business?) it seems that these changes started after the owner closed his Royal Oak location #4 and the constant in your face that you should tip even though it was a pick up order not a delivery. And now I'm curious with all the other BS pricing if the employees are getting the full amount

Kim L.

Yelp
Disappointing visit to this restaurant. My bf and I were looking for a quick meal while out running errands, and thought this would be a good compromise between fast food & a sit down meal somewhere. For those that haven't been, you stand in line and pick your food choices while the server makes your tacos or other items. We should have bailed when we saw how dried up and sad the rice & beans looked, but we carried on. I ordered 2 tacos a la carte, chicken & pulled pork. I opted for a side of street corn. My bf got 2 tacos & ordered the rice & beans (what was he thinking?). Tacos were pretty good, but too much salsa, I asked for a 'little' salsa, the server glopped it on completely overwhelming the tacos. My corn was pulled fully cooked out of a oven, it was of course overcooked and soggy. My bf's rice & beans where as bad as they looked with crusty edges and dried up. He took the beans back and asked for corn. They gave him a sad 1/2 piece. He took that back & they refused to give him anything else and said 'it was fine'. Really - they get to decide what 'fine' is? Anyways - we ate our tacos as best we could, expressed our disappointment to each other, and decided they were off our list.

Joe S.

Yelp
I should of known when no one was in this place at lunch time. The cleanliness of the kitchen is sketchy at best. The quantity you get for the price you pay does not match up. $16 for a burrito that was about the size of my cell phone. I swear to you when you ask for queso on a burrito they give you about a table spoon. The food had absolutely no flavor, was very disappointing for my first time. Unfortunately I will not be back.

Rachael D.

Yelp
I've tried this place twice. The food was made fresh it just lacked flavor. It is on the pricy side as well. It just wasn't my favorite place. There is a lot more options for meat eaters than vegetarians. The place was clean and the staff was professional.

Alexandra S.

Yelp
This place is an absolute disaster. I tried to do a take-out order and it only excepts Apple Pay at checkout. They won't let you delete any of the condiments on $2 tacos. I cannot have dairy so I could not order one. They also didn't answer their phone and I called twice. I will not be taking my business here!!!!!! Awful.

Cijay A.

Yelp
Every time a new restaurant opens I am always so hopeful. However tonight I was not so impressed. We ordered 3 burritos 1 bowl and steak nachos and 2 sodas and it cost over $50. Be prepared to pay for every little item. A spoonful of veggies is $1.25 extra the employee helping me didn't know and had to ask someone else (my mistake I didn't look at the menu because it clearly said that). The food was good and will satisfy your taco cravings but it wasn't great. I got a bag of tortilla chips as a side and I had to ask for salsa. At least I got to finally try a Detroit Taco Company. I wished for the amount of money they charge you that they would give you more food. The artwork on the wall is very nice I must say. I'm use to restaurants where I can get unlimited salsa and chips without being charged a fee.

Joe C.

Yelp
Love this place! Great, fast, affordable Mexican food. I have eaten here 4 times since my office is next door... every time it gets better The place looks so cool and is comfortable to sit for lunch and dinner Please try it

Mo R.

Yelp
I had a quesedilla with mexican chicken, mexican rice and black beans. The food was meh-ok. The rice was quick rice (dehydrated) so I did not care for it. The service was slow like a turtle, and staff had a hard time multi-tasking. Just give them one instruction / item at a time. This place is like a quiznos wanna-be. Not for me. I prefer Owl, on Woodward for my tacos anyways.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Best tacos around! Everything always tastes great! Friendly staff!! Good prices, lots of choices.

Amira B.

Yelp
Had another restaurant cancel on us for catering a 35 person event last minute so we called DTC. Only four days before the event they were able to accommodate us and help us feed our guests an amazing meal. We worked with Alfredo and he was extremely professional, helpful and easy to work with. Our order was ready on time, every item was labeled, and packaged perfectly for transport. The portions were generous and the food was outstanding!! The guests all loved building their own tacos and DTC left no topping out. It was wonderful working with them and I would recommend them to anyone!

Scott G.

Yelp
Not sure how long this has been open, but decided to stop in one evening with my sons. First, no alcohol and it's just order at the counter. Those are my only knocks. Basically you decide whether to order a bowl, burrito, nachos or tacos, then pick out the ingredients while they make them in front of you. I had three tacos - steak, pork and fish. All were really good. Toppings were fresh. One of my sons had nachos and the chips were excellent. Pretty big serving. Probably will try it again for lunch sometime.

Tiffany J.

Yelp
I have never eaten a more under seasoned meal in my life. The nachos were beyond disappointing, and the beef crispy taco was nothing special. Please revisit your recipes and add authentic flavors.

Ada S.

Yelp
Super super bummed about Detroit taco lately. They don't have our favorite sauce (that we buy by the tubs) and didn't have steak because per the cashier "we can't afford it". Disappointing but just heads up if you go in there no steak or thick verde

Thomas T.

Yelp
Great food even better service, but an extra drink if you get the diablo sauce had the shrimp nachos
