Where to Drink While Watching March Madness in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"True to its name, the Detroiter has served locals for decades. Stop into this Greektown area sports bar for a few beers before the game and grab a shuttle to Comerica, Little Caesars Arena, or Ford Field. This spot offers traditional tavern food ranging from patty melts to coney dogs to gyros, plus lots of TVs for folks without a gameday ticket." - Eater Staff

The Detroiter Bar has a really friendly, local vibe that makes you feel right at home. The bar food is surprisingly good—better than you’d expect—and everything is priced fairly. It’s a great spot to grab a bite and a drink without breaking the bank.

Google
Ate here during the Grand Prix 2025. Tried a Vosa drink for the first time and the burger & fries were good. They had my order for the burger backwards. I wanted grilled onions and NO tomatoes. I got the opposite. Overall my server Allen and everything was good. 😏 Watch full video on YouTube ~ @SheriLolitaAndMichigan

Google
Perfect way to have a quick snack before the concert. While eating you can watch the games being broad casted. The menu had some great selections of food items. Many alcoholic drinks options. Perfect place to enjoy an afternoon with friends while enjoying the Detroit city life.

Had the DETROITER burger - was really good. Fries were decent. Bartender was very good . Food came out quickly. Overall good experience.

Google
Great burgers, patty melts, fries and onion rings. Fun atmosphere even with the air conditioning and cable not working the bar tender and ambience was great!

Google
I went here as a stop on the pedal pub and would love to come back. We all ordered specialty shots, which were very flavorful. The place was clean, the staff was kind, and everyone in my group was happy. I’d love to come back here on my own.

Google
A fabulous dive bar (my favorite). They offer a nice menu and are known for the famous Detroiter Burger special. We had that and the Philly Sandwich. Both were great. They have a nice selection of draft beers and pour a strong drink. It's a fun bar for watching a game.

Google
It's definitely a place to visit before a game or event. The bar has been around for a long, long time and definitely has a lot of character! I recommend the burger and fries. They were delicious! The Detroiter is about a five minute walk to the Marriott and close to the baseball stadium.

Yelp
I love a dive bar and this one is steps away from casino prices. Decent bar food; interesting characters. Not quite a sports bar. Bartenders have an attitude, but that comes with the territory at a bar like this.

Yelp
Heeey Stranger Dangers! It's me the Big Tuna Reviewer back at it again with a tasty tuna review. First and foremost let's talk about the service. Now I may have been to a few bar restaurants in my tenure and the service orchestrated at Detroiter Bar is second to none by the lovely Bri behind the Bar. Quick, always correct on the orders and every time you may need something she's right there. 11/10. Now for the main reason you're reading this. The Tuna. Now I've had tuna from all corners of the Globe. Does this one knock my socks off?! No. Does it deserve to be thrown back in the Detroit River? Absolutely not. This is so far above average it makes it a tough one to gage. It might not make the Deans list but it'll totally be on the honor roll society. If you're in need for a quick tuna fix like I was then this is a must stop. Tell Bri the Big Tuna sent you and receive 0% off.

Yelp
Five star dive bar. They have great service, friendly bartenders, an impressive selection of drinks and the food menu will satisfy most palettes. This is a decent place for groups, though I usually come in as part of a couple. But they've got a few tables that can seat 4 or 6. They don't usually have table service, so you'll need to head to the bar to order. The bar itself is pretty big, with lots of space for singles or couples. The bathroom sitch is always a little sus, but like most Detroit dive bars, it's what makes them unique. They're always clean (minus the graffiti) and are usually stocked with soap and towels. You really can't ask for more. Food wise, I've never had a bad dish at this place. Their burgs are top notch and always cooked the way you request. Sandwiches are great, as are the fries. I've been known to order cheese sticks and onion rings as well. All delish! You'll find garage or street parking nearby (both paid) though street parking is currently free on Sundays. Anytime I find myself hanging near Campus Martius Park, I make it a point to stop into The Detroiter. You should do the same.

Yelp
The name of this place is a great example of the vibe inside this bar. There isn't a better place to have a couple beers, eat some appetizers and watch a Tigers or Lions game. The people who work here are wonderful and they're always very friendly and attentive. I came here to watch the Lions game on Christmas Eve, had a few blue moons and ate some delicious fried pickles and French fries. This place seems to have regulars who are extremely friendly and welcoming. The Detroiter is my favorite go-to bar in Detroit.

Yelp
Bri & Jessica are the best bartenders in town! They make the most amazing long islands & Shirley Temples we've ever had. Both girls have the best personalities & make bar nights fun!

Yelp
Love coming to Detroiter Bar. They treat everyone like family. Bre, Jess and Alvin are all so friendly and welcoming. The chicken pita always slaps. Great times here, always!!

Yelp
Jessica and Brin were such an amazing duo for our first visit here. The Detroiter burger and and beers were fresh and delicious. Would definitely come back to see these lovely ladies.

Yelp

Yelp
Had a great evening at this bar! Perfect place downtown Detroit for some good food and drinks. Also they have plenty of televisions to watch sports. Prices are very reasonable and the place walks a great balance between divey and bro-sports bar. The place is very clean and spacious as well. Overall, this is a solid choice for the area!

Yelp
What a great bar!!! It's everything great about Detroit and the people that live, work, and visit this great city! Special shout out to Joey the van driver! You are the best brother!!! Please make sure you tip your driver, they get you where you are going so you can save a few steps. Make sure you bring your cash, no credit cards. Pretzels and 7&7's were on point. Great place to get a good drink before a concert or a game with friends... maybe even make some new ones while you're there.
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
Good bar with the big screens and good food! The sausage appetizer is our favorite here. They have a great patio area for the warmer season as well that we love.
google avatar

Autumnn G.

Yelp
Stopped by here while hanging out downtown. Did not order food but the drinks!! Oh wow they were so good and the presentation . Loved the bikini lady glass and she alone will def have me returning lol. They also were selling Jell-O shots and we figured "what the hell" and had some of those two. The inside was not to crowded, which I was happy about. They had an outdoor area and a tented indoor/outdoor space. Music was good but not to loud that I could not hold a conversation. Bartenders were prompt and friendly.

Chris D.

Yelp
The food is pretty good! The Ruben looked great and the wings amazing without any sauce! Just don't use their Juke Box, the controller of their @AMI juke box is a creepy old white dude that sits at the end of the bar by the kitchen entrance and plays his playlist , reviews any songs that you pay to play, then deletes what he doesn't want to hear.
google avatar

Summer D.

Yelp
My kind of place for after the live band at Floods down the block. Walk in feeling good. Bartender says what can I get ya? Good looking guy 6"2 about 220. Got the blankest look ever. Well guess not everybody has a sense of humor. Lets try again. Do u have a tap list? He motions to the taps on the other side. Sigh. Now my habitual smile is getting dim. Can u tell me what IPAs you have? They had 2 and 1 I haven't had before so I'm feeling better. This is not a dive bar to me. Very clean nice inside. Nice bright sign. Not crowded this Saturday night. It was almost 1am so no food. Nice juke box that I took over for the last hour lol. I was the only black patron there but everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying themselves. Started talking to the other bartender cause that other sulky bartender... Please don't kill my vibe. Please don't kill my vibe. She was cool. Let me order that norms raggedy ass IPA close to 2 which was the best Michigan beer I had all weekend. Told me don't worry about the time. Thats what's up. Come check it out.

Paul V.

Yelp
Val is the best! Our favorite bar in Detroit! Always a good spot to grab a beer before a game.

Zorgdon W.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. The turkey pita wrap was great. Very clean and the staff is very friendly. I will be back to get drunky poo

Christine W.

Yelp
The loaded fries were so good I got those with a basket of chicken tenders super good bar tender super cool the drink were perfect

Yelp
Great food, great drinks, great staff! Really good spot to make a short post game hike and grab a beer and a bite.
google avatar

Nate A.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Detroiter for the three years I lived downtown. It's such a great encapsulation of the blue collar vibe of Detroit with an excellent beer menu, good food and big TVs as well as a projector that make local games a fun time. My only critique is one of the waitresses was not nearly as nice and helpful as the others, which made the experience a little inconsistent from time to time.
google avatar

Myke M.

Yelp
Great bar, great energy. The bartenders are very friendly and personable. Funny people too!

Julia V.

Yelp
We had a party of 7 that came into this place last night. And the staff was amazing. The food was great and the energy was just on point. The guy that waited on us was amazing. All orders were correct and everything came out timely. I would definitely recommend going there.
google avatar

Leslie N.

Yelp
Typical bar food, but it wasn't as bad as other bar food I've had. This place got super packed for the Piston's game, so get here early if you are also planning on attending on a game day! My chicken tenders were really good and they gave me tons of BBQ sauce. Wasn't too happy with the draft list (almost all IPAs, wished they had a better local selection) but I ended up having two beers and a meal all for $22. Not bad!

Deborah L.

Yelp
Ken bartender/waiter was awesome!! Food average! My BLT and fries good. My son enjoyed his burger. Mushrooms, cheese sticks and chicken fingers okay, not fresh, pre breaded.
google avatar

Kristen D.

Yelp
This is one of the cleanest "hole in the wall" bars I've been ever been to! The staff is super friendly & was constantly giving us attention by keeping our drinks refilled They and even gave our table extra French fries on the house! We ordered their spicy sausage Greek appetizer which they light of fire before the table - definitely recommend ordering Pretty much everyone at our table either ordered the 313 burger with fries or the Greek salad - good options for everyone

Yelp
I have never wrote a review before on yelp but I just had to say something. Me and my husband were in Detroit for a show at Saint Andrews and decided to stop into the Detroiter for for a quick drink. Kenneth was bartending and made the best whisky sour & old fashioned me and my husband have ever had in our lifetime seriously this guy can make drinks however that's not why I'm writing this review it's because the place was packed and my husband went to the little boys room and must have dropped his wallet In the stall and thank God Kenneth found it. We earlier in the day sold our second car and had $1400 in cash in the wallet and Kenneth must've known the money was in there because he figured out it was ours by opening it up and checking the ID inside and by this time we already left. Once we noticed it was gone my heart dropped I thought sure it was gone especially with that type of cash in it but to my surprise and relief as soon as we walked back in Kenneth was standing there with a huge smile and said you must of left this I honestly could not believe it. Kenneth you are an amazing person you have no idea how much we needed that I just lost my job and Christmas is almost here thank you thank you thank you

Yelp
This is one of downtown Detroit hidden gems, in my opinion. Nothing too fancy; just good food, great service, and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Although I've never seen it crowded to the point of having to stand in line or stand at the bar for drinks, I wouldn't doubt that they are frequently that busy. We never skipped an opportunity to visit when we're headed to a game in the area. Free shuttle service to and from sporting venues on game days. Kudos to Breanna, Jessica, Valentina, Jenny, Ken, and Maria as bartender hosts. They always have a smile on their faces and they make great drinks and are very friendly to all their patrons. Special mention goes to Tommy, the man who operates the shuttle to and from the sporting events. By the way, Valentina makes homemade pierogies for sale. They are out of this world. In my opinion, you would do yourself a favor by visiting the Detroiter bar and giving the staff a chance to impress you.

Amie D.

Yelp
fantastic local sports bar located in brick town with easy parking. the staff are incredibly friendly and the chicken fingers & burgers are great. everything is reasonably priced. this is definitely one of the best sports bars in detroit!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
The waitstaff is great, and the atmosphere is good. This is a great place to go after a concert at St. Andrews. I didn't get any food, but I ordered a draft beer and it tasted stale- as if it had been tapped for far too long. I asked them to switch it for another draft and that one was perfectly fine. They were also happy to do it. Make sure you order a popular or new beer and you should be fine.

Yelp
Looked for a bar to watch the Champions League Final, and thankfully found Detroiter Bar. Cozy place with ample seating, a great atmosphere, and only a few yards from the People Mover & Greektown Casino. Excellent selection of craft brews, beer, and liquor. Very good food, and reasonable prices. Service could not have been better, and the patrons were welcoming, as well. It was like watching the game at a corner bar in your hometown. This is a great spot to get a drink in downtown Detroit. I fully recommend Detroiter Bar!
google avatar

Maureen M.

Yelp
We stopped in here before a concert at St. Andrew's Hall. It's been quite a long time since I've been here. Nothing has changed. It's still old and dingy. The bathroom is actually pretty scary. One of the stalls was locked. I assume there was a major issue in there since it was early in the evening. The bartender was pretty cool though. He was very nice and attentive. When I asked for a shot that was the same liquor in my drink, he was genuinely concerned that I didn't like my drink. That wasn't the case. I just wanted a shot. I really appreciated his concern though! Most places wouldn't even bat an eyelash. Can't be mad at an old Detroit/Greektown bar! They're still there for a reason!
google avatar

Lynn H.

Yelp
I visited the Detroiter Bar for lunch. I had chili and flaming sausage. Both were OK, but nothing special. The chili was the same kind they use on their coneys, which I like, but others might not expect. Service was decent and I did enjoy the divey-bar ambiance. I'd like to come here after work sometime when I'm sure it's more busy.
google avatar

Rita G.

Yelp
We were hiking around the downtown area in Detroit on a Thursday nite. Ready for an after dinner drink and Thursday nite football. Good ambiance. Bartender made us feel welcome. Bar selection adequate. Felt like the bar had been in the neighborhood forever. Enjoyable.

Yelp
Had great service, amazing food and the staff care, did anyways. They work as a team too! Except management. The tuna melt, OMG!!! That is the best! So fresh, room temperature and not cold. So freaking good. The onion rings were just OK too! If you want a tuna melt, go here!! I now will compare my tuna melt to theirs. Lol!! Minus stars for the nasty and gross bathrooms along with additional issue by management. DO NOT USE THE RESTROOMS HERE!!! Gross!! Management refused to honor a special on the wall because the sign was incorrect (this is why we ordered the drinks).... False advertising at its best...
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Quite the dive bar with decent bar food. Huge portions. Cheap food, tons of tap beers, eclectic crowd. Definitely good for groups if you're out to drink. Good outdoor seating too. Old school vibe. Honestly, bartender had a dry wit that - without even trying - made us laugh.
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
BLT, waffle fries, burgers, and the rest of the bar type food is off the hook. Jukebox. Screens to watch a game. Low key and awesome!
google avatar

Drew R.

Yelp
Cool place! Old time neighborhood bar vibe. I went with the Detroiter Burger with Fries. When it arrived I was a little concerned by the very symmetrical burger patty. The Detroiter is topped with an equally round thin slice of ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, and thick pickle slices. I assembled my burger, added yellow mustard. The burger tasted and thankfully it didn't taste like a frozen patty and the texture was right for a medium burger. A quick glance confirmed this. The fries are steak fries. Not my favorite as I've never found them crisp. These were no different. If your in the area. Nd want a beer and a burger you could do much worse.
google avatar

Marygrace A.

Yelp
Used a Groupon for carryout, and their service was quick. 2 chicken tender orders and a side of jalapeno poppers for $20 - not bad at all. The food was your average bar food - nothing too crazy. Beer and liquor deals are worth the trip, and they offer a shuttle to the Tigers Stadium on game days. Great atmosphere, walking distance to other Greektown or Bricktown bars.
google avatar

Krystel T.

Yelp
I've never been here before but it was a colleague's choice for lunch. We had about 17 people and we came around lunch on a weekday. We didn't call ahead because we hadn't thought about it until we started walking over. Oh well, we chanced it. Luckily the place wasn't that busy. We got seated right away and had a very attentive waitress. Super kind & passionate about her job. She handled everyone really well. The atmosphere of the place wasn't fancy, just your local dive bar feel. The reason I knocked off a star was because the tablei we sat at was either near the kitchen or bathroom - just smelled like cleaning solution but not the fresh nice smelling kind, the more chemically type of smell. Didn't like that while I was eating. The food & drinks (including shots) were well priced and they came out fast as more than half of our group ordered food/drinks. I ordered the Fish Sandwich Special which was basically their fried cod sandwich but it came with fries. Cod cooked perfectly, but it came as two pieces in the sandwich so was kind of hard to eat without it falling apart but it was so good. The fries were good too. They have options for steak or waffle fries, both are delicious but I preferred the waffle. Overall, good experience and would definitely be back.

Yelp
Agree with Michelle... The Detroiter is one of the bars that speaks Detroit. We came to Detroit to attend the Auto Show. We stayed at Greektown - which this bar is just a 5-10 minute shennanigan-free walk. Our crew rolled in - the bar is the focal point (in the middle and goes in a U. We sit down, grab our PBRs an ordered some food. The food is really good. We ordered some Saganaki - Flaming Cheese. I had a buddy of mine who had never had Saganaki - so this was a treat. DInner - I ordered the Detroiter Special - a Cheese burger with Ham and Bacon. The burger was cooked perfectly. It was served with fries. Besides the burger - what made it special is that came with a free beer. We stayed at this place for 3-4 hours and preferred it over the newer places Greektown offered. The people and regulars there were friendly, the Red Wings were on - 52inch LCD was right behind the bartender... I will go back Atmosphere - Thursday Night - Great Crowd until 1:00 AM. This is a dive bar near Greek Town. The Jukebox was on fire this eveing. Food - Very good - I had the The Detroiter Special with Fries and a free beer ($8.95). We had Saganaki. Beer is limited - but if I want craft beer I can get that elsewhere. Service - Great - Our bartendar was very busy. Very friendly and made all our crazy drinks (We were trying to give here a drink from when they were popular the 70's (Tom Collins), 80's (Tequila Sunrise), 90's, etc... If you plan to go to Detroit - which I recommend - check this place out. Saganaki

Yelp
Great place in Greektown, really friendly staff and the flaming saganaki cheese and sausage was delicious!

Yelp
Maybe the best place to meet friends before a Red Wing game. Get there 1 1/2 before to get a table as it fills up fast. Detroiter house special is great for $9.45.
google avatar

Pat D.

Yelp
Local bar that we always stop in while in town. A small place but always seemed to be full. A little old in the decor but nothing to worry about. Laid back and a good little time.
google avatar

Susan N.

Yelp
Best burger in Detroit! House special burger, beer, and fries! These are the best deal for $8.95 ! Quick, polite staff! TV's around the bar. Easy location. Off People Mover Bricktown exit!

Yelp
Terrific burgers. I've been there when it has been busy and when it has been quiet, and there's no sacrifice in quality of food or service at either time. A former coworker is a huge fan of this place, and each time the job took us downtown, he wanted to come here, which is a tremendous point in this place's favor. It helped make me a fan, and this frequency gave me a chance to try several different menu items. The prices are reasonable, and it's a great dive bar atmosphere.
