We stayed at the Devasom for two weeks in the middle of May. Before going on the trip, we spent a lot of time researching hotels and resorts in the area because, coming from Canada, we wanted to make the most of our trip. ||From the moment we arrived at the Devasom to the moment we left, we were not disappointed. The resort is an absolute dream - the aesthetic is elegant, relaxing and so beautiful without being over the top. The rooms were perfectly appointed, the pool is luxurious and such a pleasure to be at, the decor throughout is the definition of quiet and tasteful luxury, and the air is (quite literally) perfumed with a mysteriously delicious and subtle scent. ||When we arrived, we wanted to make sure that we had some access to streaming services, so if you are like us and enjoy watching some Netflix before bed, they are more than happy to bring a streaming box you can use throughout your stay. ||The front staff there, particularly the manager and Nicky, were always absolutely lovely, checking in with us consistently and stopping to have a chat. We really appreciated getting to know Eddy too, who organized our trip to the elephant sanctuary nearby and drove us into town a few times. We enjoyed many visits to the spa and have to thank Bo, View, Bum, and Mai (?) for the most wonderful and relaxing massages we have ever had. We definitely recommend the body scrubs and the Thai massages, including the herbal massage. Everything at the spa, from the attention to detail at arrival to the delicious smoky Thai cookies served afterwards was perfection. ||The food at the hotel was simply perfect - we didn’t feel the need to eat anywhere else. The breakfasts were delicious - we especially appreciated the special Thai dishes and desserts that changed every day, the fresh healthy juices that also changed daily, and the wonderful fruit. Takola is a peaceful and beautiful place to have breakfast and also enjoy a meal. We ate there twice for dinner - once ordering from the a la carte menu (delicious Tom yum soup and coconut ice cream), and once to partake in a special Thai buffet with live music and dancing. We also really enjoyed the beach bar and had delicious steak and lobster pasta one night, and a wonderful churrasco night with tons of meat and seafood as well as live fire dancing another night. ||There is so much to do at the Devasom besides enjoying the beach, pool and restaurants - from daily activities like exercise classes and coconut pudding making, enjoying music and reading in the gorgeous library, or attending the private Thai boxing class and singing bowl meditation session that we took part in. ||Special thanks to Big for being a great teacher of boxing to two novices and to Bo for making us feel so relaxed during the meditation and then taking the time to show us how to make a singing bowl sing after the meditation! ||We would highly recommend staying here. Although we are avid travellers and feel that there is much of the world left to see, we have already discussed coming back here for a special anniversary / occasion.
