Takola

"Set in lush gardens by Khuekkhak beach, Takola is named after the Takua Pa city’s former title when it was a major spice trading port. Their ancient and original cooking methods produce intense traditional and southern Thai flavours. The fried fish fillet is a large seabass topped with a tamarind-based, sweet and sour sauce that works wonderfully with the freshness of the fish and the basil’s fragrance. The Thai crab dip with crab meat also gets the nod." - Michelin Inspector

From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome by all the staff. The room was exceptional, luxurious amenities and beautifully decorated. The resort grounds were well maintained by friendly staff and picturesque gardens. Both the restaurants were 5 star with an excellent menu, accommodating staff and tastefully decorated. Overall the resort far exceeded our expectations. The professional and caring attitude of everyone starts at the top with manager Kawee (Wee) often seen around the resort especially at the pool area making sure all the guests are well catered for and checking in on staff to see if they need anything as well and filters down through all the staff who are always happy and obliging. We definitely would recommend Devasom to anyone who wants a relaxing stress free holiday in a luxury beachfront resort.

We stayed at the Devasom for two weeks in the middle of May. Before going on the trip, we spent a lot of time researching hotels and resorts in the area because, coming from Canada, we wanted to make the most of our trip. ||From the moment we arrived at the Devasom to the moment we left, we were not disappointed. The resort is an absolute dream - the aesthetic is elegant, relaxing and so beautiful without being over the top. The rooms were perfectly appointed, the pool is luxurious and such a pleasure to be at, the decor throughout is the definition of quiet and tasteful luxury, and the air is (quite literally) perfumed with a mysteriously delicious and subtle scent. ||When we arrived, we wanted to make sure that we had some access to streaming services, so if you are like us and enjoy watching some Netflix before bed, they are more than happy to bring a streaming box you can use throughout your stay. ||The front staff there, particularly the manager and Nicky, were always absolutely lovely, checking in with us consistently and stopping to have a chat. We really appreciated getting to know Eddy too, who organized our trip to the elephant sanctuary nearby and drove us into town a few times. We enjoyed many visits to the spa and have to thank Bo, View, Bum, and Mai (?) for the most wonderful and relaxing massages we have ever had. We definitely recommend the body scrubs and the Thai massages, including the herbal massage. Everything at the spa, from the attention to detail at arrival to the delicious smoky Thai cookies served afterwards was perfection. ||The food at the hotel was simply perfect - we didn’t feel the need to eat anywhere else. The breakfasts were delicious - we especially appreciated the special Thai dishes and desserts that changed every day, the fresh healthy juices that also changed daily, and the wonderful fruit. Takola is a peaceful and beautiful place to have breakfast and also enjoy a meal. We ate there twice for dinner - once ordering from the a la carte menu (delicious Tom yum soup and coconut ice cream), and once to partake in a special Thai buffet with live music and dancing. We also really enjoyed the beach bar and had delicious steak and lobster pasta one night, and a wonderful churrasco night with tons of meat and seafood as well as live fire dancing another night. ||There is so much to do at the Devasom besides enjoying the beach, pool and restaurants - from daily activities like exercise classes and coconut pudding making, enjoying music and reading in the gorgeous library, or attending the private Thai boxing class and singing bowl meditation session that we took part in. ||Special thanks to Big for being a great teacher of boxing to two novices and to Bo for making us feel so relaxed during the meditation and then taking the time to show us how to make a singing bowl sing after the meditation! ||We would highly recommend staying here. Although we are avid travellers and feel that there is much of the world left to see, we have already discussed coming back here for a special anniversary / occasion.

The Devasom is exceptional...from the check in experience to the check out experience, everything was so personalised and responsive and the hotel itself so grand and beautiful. Max is a great concierge, he made everything during our stay so easy and stress free. The kids club was a great spot for our kids to just play in when there was rain or they wanted a reprieve from swimming all day. Takola... the food here is delicious. The tom yum with sea bass we had pretty much every night! The spa area is stunning and the Thai massage was immense, Nena was the best - so strong and so good. The pool is unbelievable and the proximity to the beach perfect. There was one guy at the pool, I didn't catch his name but he was so lovely, cold water ready, gave my son a pool toy....just the little things that made the stay even better. Honestly one of my favourite places I've ever stayed ♥️

We were 2 couples enjoying a 10 day stay in Jan 2024, having spent 4 days in Phuket. It was a dream… peaceful, relaxing, great food / service. The hotel is beautiful everywhere you look. Lush gardens, white sand beach. Attentive staff. Plenty of restaurants serving up great food along the beach… perfect for sundowners. Easy 10 min tuk tuk ride into Khoa Lak town for the night markets / restaurants & lively bars with live music. Hotel will order taxis / tuk tuks.||Activities: Long tail boat trips.|The ethical elephant sanctuary is a must. |The tsunami memorial museum is definitely worth a visit whilst there, I feel in a world where appreciation and value of people and possessions is ever decreasing, it’s incredibly grounding & humbling to be reminded of how the local community suffered & how they have re built. It certainly makes you appreciative & grateful for everything & everyone we have in our lives 🙏🏼||We haven’t stopped thinking & talking about this hotel & have already booked to return Jan 2025. We cannot wait. We’ll be spending 4 days in Krabi beforehand.

This hotel is superb, location, service & facilities. Our room was large with balcony overlooking the ocean, very large comfy bed with high quality linens, great shower & excellent housekeeping. We ate at both restaurants & the food was of a high standard. Breakfast was a feast of choices for all. But the point of difference at this resort was the staff. All staff from pool boys to waiters they all had a genuine smile & went the extra mile to serve. We are well travelled but this hotel was exceptional in every way. A special thank you to Nicky & Tommy your attention to detail was special. Thank you

We booked two rooms: junior suite with jacuzzi and seaside paradise with pool. This hotel is very well managed. It feels like an intimate resort. The seaside paradise room is pure luxury. The small extras provided in the room really make the room experience complete (complimentary mini-bar, bath salts, mosquito repellent, fluffy slippers and beach sandals). Housekeeping is very kind and attentive to details at cleanup and at turndown. The pool is one of the loveliest I’ve seen in a long time. The beach is clean and accessible. We were already very content with our stay but checkout was the most impressive part. The front desk manager Chay approached us to receive thorough feedback. He addressed every con of our stay and even rectified the bill when we mentioned an off-experience at one of the restaurants. He saw us off on the airport taxi like a perfect host. He is a solid manager: sober, humble, not over-the-top. Thank you very much.

Devasom is the perfect place to spend relaxing holidays in Khao Lak. The hotel has all the facilities you need. And perfectly located on the beach 10 min drive from town centre. All staff were extremely nice and helpful. The manager there was so accommodating and catered to all or requests. Our room was above our expectations in every form. The room was big, clean, well designed and it seems they thought about every aspect of the accommodations. We got 2 bath in the room! One at the balcony. Fantastic pool with sea view. If your just looking to relax and enjoy some pool time you can't beat this place! The beach is just fantastic even that we had some days with rainy weather. Best view for sunset. Also free kayaks availiable. There is a restaurant near the pool with a direct view of the sea. Shaded terrace for eating and music to go with that. Good menu. Good view of sunset. The breakfast was the best I've ever seen in a hotel. Food, accommodation and especially staff are very good. Loved my time there and definitely would go back anytime! 10/10

We spent 5 nights here as part of a 14 night trip. With the rest of the trip being fairly “full on” we practically did nothing here but relax and what a place to relax….||We ate in the hotel 3 nights and out of the hotel on 2 nights. As we were only b&b we intended to eat out most nights but the food was that good it seemed a shame to go out. Considering the quality of the food and it being a hotel the food and drinks were reasonably priced to be honest.||Breakfast was exceptional, probably the best we’ve had on numerous holidays ||Overall the staff were very attentive and friendly and the bedroom was perfect in terms of size and amenities ||The beach area in front of the hotel is really quiet, the only downside is the number of jellyfish which makes swimming in the sea unattractive, but that seemed to be the case in Thailand in general ||Khao Lak isn’t the best resort in all fairness but there is a shuttle bus to the resort 3 times a day should you be looking to go out regularly and it’s easy to then get a tuk tuk back again
