8 Stunning U.S. Swimming Holes to Cool off in This Summer

"Ominous name aside, this swimming hole off the Roaring Fork River near Aspen is a blessing on a sweltering summer day. The ice-cool pool is accessible between late May and October, but best visited in June, July, and August, when its cyan pools are at their highest water levels. The hole is unmarked but can be reached by parking between mile markers 50 and 51 on Highway 82, a.k.a. Independence Pass, a thrilling scenic route about 10 miles east of Aspen. Hike down about 200 feet and you’ll know you’ve found the spot when you see cliff jumpers flinging themselves off the 10-, 18-, and even 25-foot boulders flanking a thunderous waterfall."

Beautiful! It was too cold to swim when we were there but still cool to check out.

Tranquil little swimming hole. It was much too cold out to go in the water but based on other reviews it seems it is a nice place to be when its really hot out. It had recently rained as the higher rocks were still wet and the fallen leaves made some spots slippery. Definitely not a place you want to climb around when its too wet or icy. For those with children or who don’t swim well, it had a couple of different ‘pools’ sectioned off after the main one that had different depths.

Super cool place! Great place to take photos and videos of the river. Interesting rock formations carved by the rushing waters.

Beautiful hike down to Devil's Punchbowl and not strenuous at all. If you are brave you can jump off the rocks way, way down into the water. Or....you can hang out with your dog and relax. Stunning scenery.

This is my favorite trail in Colorado. Beautiful waterfall trail that hooks up with 2 other trails in the area

The water is very very cold. You might have temperate shock from sitting in the heat then jump into the water. They have spots for you to hangout appropriate for all ages.

These photos were taken the first of July be careful for high water if you want to swim or jump into the punchbowl. There is a large rock in the center of the punchbowl, be careful to not hit this. If you aim to swim here wait till water is down and not rushing, swim towards end of July or August when temps are warmer.
