UPDATE: Three weeks ago Devil's River got a new Head Chef, and I am very encouraged about the future of the kitchen and food available. I have visited once each week since the new menu has come into place. The new chef smokes the brisket for the menu, and uses his personal recipe. It is really, really good. Try the sliders first, since that will tell you with the first bite that it is legit. I actually ordered the sliders the past two weeks and the quality was very, very good. The other item that came with the sliders is the chef's rendition of french fries..... PHENOMENAL. Thin planks, not crunchy, with salt and rosemary seasoning... Even typing this I want some more. I didn't need any sauce.. just plain was fine for me. Tonight I also tried the brisket fundido. It was okay, but not as a meal. I am looking forward to trying the diablo shrimp and grits the next time I visit. Oh, and I found my drink. the 'Devils in the Details.' Very nice rye, just a bit of berry on the back end and a fresh orange peel. My drink of choice for the past couple weeks. Give this place a chance! The work they have done has changed my review from a two star to four star, and the service has always been very good. Enjoy! __________________________________ Prior visit: Whiskey in the old fashioned was okay, but the rest of the old fashioned was out of proportion. If I wanted an orange peel and whiskey, the drink I got would have been perfect. Food: be very careful. A few excuses from the kitchen like…. We don’t have the signature pickled onions for our signature burger and we are totally out of sour cream so here’s the quesadilla with ranch. Also, this menu is SIGNIFICANTLY different than the one on the website. NONE of the food I wanted or received are currently on the website. AND, the kitchen was out of the French Dip (another item out of stock), on the website and local menu, and was really what I would have ordered. Service was great. Apologetic and offered a number of airplane bottles of whiskey to cover, but i didn't accept. I very much appreciated the quick offer knowing the kitchen wasn't working very well for me. Wings would be great if they were cooked a little more. As it was they felt a little ‘chewy’ and dissatisfying. The quesadilla was ordered was asada, an up charge, and what I got was more akin to seasoned ground beef. Pic attached. Better than Taco Bell, but not by much. Not a good first time here. I will def update this review if I decide to try again.

Google
Local distillery that offers a nice selection of their whiskey. I find their low proof whiskey not only smooth without the burn but tasty. This location has a nice feel to it as you can see from the pictures. The staff is friendly and helpful. The have live music and a good play list when a fans is not there. The outside seating area is positioned well and catches a good breeze. If there is no breeze, there are an army of ceiling fans to keep the heat at bay. Their pour on the rocks is only $7. The price during happy hour is only $4.

First came here for a wedding pre-covid - super cool atmosphere. Second time was today. The whiskey is incredible smooth and we also got food which exceeded our expectations. Very cool place, super underrated. We will come back!

Google
Absolutely amazing atmosphere. Amazing caring staff and the owner is awesome. Came here on my anniversary and had a fantastic time. If I could give them 10 stars I would by far and away.

Google
The bartender talked my wife into trying Cinnamon whiskey… and she isn’t a whiskey drinker, but tonight she is, she said it tastes like horchata. This isn’t our first time here, this is our fourth, but even then, we’ve always had the best service.. the live music is always great and a plus just to sit back and listen and vibe.

Google
Always a good time at Devil Distillery. Drinks are very tasty and on par every time. Bartenders are friendly and fast. Happy hour is even better!!!

Google
This place is awesome for a pre-night out date. The vibe here totally brings you back to simpler times. We got a whiskey flight, which was perfect for us since we don't always both drink whiskey.

Google
Nice little spot in downtown San Antonio nor far off river walk. Staff is super friendly and talked up the town as well as the distillery itself. Ordered an old fashioned with a bourbon base and was pleasantly surprised by the overall presentation. Cozy tasting room with good live music onside when I was in. Really liked the exposure to see the distillery equipment, and loved the warm atmosphere. Only gripe was overall noise level in the place, and lack of clear direction of where to go to order or sit.
google avatar

Kristi B.

Yelp
Very large location with plenty of seating. They only serve their bourbon/whiskey - so don't come I thinking you can get something else. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. You can smoke cigars outside. There is no cigar smoking inside.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Very nice building both inside and out. Very becoming a tasting room. I got a flight which was quite good. The regular bourbon was my favorite which I bought a bottle of. The high proof (126) was extremely smooth but lacked any kind of character. The attendant was very friendly.

Yelp
Killing time before a show at the Majestic, I stopped off at the Devil River Distillery for a cocktail and ordered an Old Fashioned. I got my drink and went out to the front patio where there was a one-man band playing some cool jams. The drink was good and the vibe on the patio was relaxing to match the music being played. It was fun to people watch as they strolled by the front patio while having some good conversation. I enjoyed my time here and look forward to coming back to try more of their spirits.

Yelp
"The Devil went down to Georgia...." Well, in this case it was San Antonio. After an adventurous day out on the town my friend and I stopped in for a nightcap. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the striking crystal chandelier, and the pre-prohibition style bar adds to the charm. The place is quite spacious - there's a gift shop, upstairs seating, the distillery, a tasting room, and a speakeasy downstairs. You can also book a tour via their website. Devils River Distillery produces small batch whiskey. Their award-winning portfolio features bourbon, rye, barrel proof, and even flavors such as agave, cinnamon, & coffee. The cocktail menu offers classics and creative twists such as the Devil Rita, which is made with their agave whiskey. Sticking with the classics my friend ordered a Sazerac and I asked for a New York Sour. The bartenders take their craft seriously here and our cocktails were prepared with precision. We enjoyed the live music outside on the patio while sipping our delicious libations. I'd love to come back to take a tour and have a cocktail in the speakeasy. Happy Hour daily 4 - 6 pm

Yelp
(From January, 2025) We found this spot on a Sunday in mid January after walking around downtown. With football being on, we needed a spot to post up for some cocktails while watching the Ravens/Bills playoff game. This was about a block from our hotel and upon realizing that, we decided to venture here and see what's going on. Walking in, there's plenty of space to move around with some comfortable seating along with an upstairs area. The bar is where you order your drinks; our bartender (I forgot her name) did an outstanding job of crafting our cocktails and gave us good ideas on what to order. My girlfriend ordered a devil's mule which she loved (she ordered a second one later) and I did a new york sour classic. Both were delicious and well crafted. I also ordered a Sin-Chata cocktail (cinnamon bourbon, honey, chocolate bitters, oat milk) upon seeing it presented; knew I had to try it and it was one bad-ass cocktail! Upon getting drinks, we ventured downstairs where there are individual lounge areas with separate tvs surrounded by assigned seatings and coffee tables. We were able to watch the game at one of the stations down there, snuggled on the couch sipping our drinks. We both loved the concept and wish more bars/spots would do this. You can also play board games there and they have video games they can set up for the tvs for groups. Or you can do watch parties for your Netflix/Max accounts. Pretty dope! Look forward to coming back here for more drinks and hanging out!

Yelp
Matt is a g! He made the best old fashioned ever. Make sure you ask for him. The distillery was beautiful and the vibe as great!! Give this man a raise

Yelp
Devils River is a beautiful distillery located in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Upon walking in we were captivated by the enormous chandelier in the main room and were greeted immediately and welcomed to the bar towards the back of the room. Whether you'd like a flight to taste a variety of what Devils River has to offer or you'd like to sit and sip one of their unique cocktails, there's something on the menu to please every palate. The bar tenders are attentive and very accommodating. The coffee bourbon had the perfect amount of sweetness and balanced coffee flavor. The branded ice cube and pitchfork were a unique touch. There's ample seating upstairs with a Birds Eye view of the stills, but we chose to explore the speakeasy downstairs. We were transported back in time as we relaxed on the antique furniture and sipped our perfectly crafted cocktails in the dimly lit lounge. If we weren't catching a flight we would have left with a few bottles, but we will definitely be back the next time we are in town!

Yelp
This distillery is very cool! We did a private tour & tasting and had lots of fun. I tasted the rye, coffee, and cinnamon whiskey. I also ordered a cocktail that was made with their coffee bourbon. It was delicious. The tour was pretty short but I feel like I learned a lot about the process of distilling alcohol. The service was great!

Yelp
Good ambiance, good food, and greater drinks with a nice selection of cigars. Co-workers and I stopped by this place due to convenience (near hotel) and sparked interest of the distillery on display. Happy we stopped by, as we had a great time after work with drinks, cigars. Rated a 4 only because their were drinks that were having to be adjusted because them being out of things. Such as the third rounds of Trident True they had no mints and put lemon wedges so adjusted after that to the Devils Mule. The staff was friendly and pretty welcoming. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here to grab food and drinks during happy hour on Wednesday. Apparently they don't serve food on Wednesday. Not sure why, but we decided to stay and have a couple drinks. Everyone really enjoy the drinks and exploring the distillery. Head downstairs and find cornhole, and more seating. It was a cool spot for sure and I definitely enjoyed their different spirits. The flavored ones and the straight whiskey or bourbons. Looking forward to stopping in and trying their food along with some drinks sometime soon.

Yelp
First time here and definitely not my last. Thanks YELP for the invite. The speakeasy is a hidden gem. Their drinks are amazing and all their staff were absolutely friendly and their service was great. We met some vendors with unique items.
google avatar

Natasha K.

Yelp
Had a great experience here this evening. The atmosphere was amazing. Its charm and elegance spoke for itself. The staff was very professional and inviting not only that they provide excellent service, but it was so easy to talk to them and carry on a good conversation. Our cocktails were delicious and well-made. We tried the fondue, the smash burger and the tacos and everything was on point.
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
As always, drinks were fabulous and food was good. The bartenders were great, AS ALWAYS! The music tonight not good at all. This guy played sad songs all night in both English and Spanish. We brought friends for the first time and what a disappointment it was. We had to ask for a more upbeat some and the best he could do was La Bamba. Ugh....
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
Awesome spot with great-tasting spirits! The bartender was friendly and the drink flights were fairly priced with good variety of tastes. The retail area could be better-attended to, boxes left there and shelves that appear to be warping.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
Great place for drinks and music in the covered patio. Cigars and food available. The BLT was quite good!
google avatar

Renee J.

Yelp
The food they offer is great but I love their mixed drinks and live music nights the best. I love to visit on a date night downtown before or after dinner or an event at the Majestic. I love their mule and we always stock their coffee bourbon. I am not at dark liquor person but the cold fashion at Devils River is so good!!!! Please give it a try on a live music night, their performers are so good!! The bartenders and waiters will help anyone find their perfect mixed drinks!
google avatar

Gina E.

Yelp
We stopped in for one quick drink and the bartender was super professional and friendly. She helped guide me to a better drink than I originally was leaning towards. We were then offered to go check out the "speakeasy vibe basement" and oh my was it CUTE!! It was also a little creepy as if it could be a little haunted (in a good way I promise haha). So for me that ticked the ambience vibes right away. Downstairs had some vintage seats and couches that make for a cool photo session if you're into that (or not). I will definitely be returning. Try the Devil's Mule you won't regret it ;)
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
I was walking around downtown, it happened to bomb this place. I do love me some whiskey! I walked up to the bar, service and knowledge of the whiskey was exceptional. I got a flight. I really enjoyed their age. The younger ones were well young. Overall, this is a really good good place to stop and get a whiskey or a cocktail. I will definitely come back when I'm in San Antonio.
google avatar

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Yep! Go here! Bourbon old fashioned and house sauced wings - both were wonderful... staff offered a military/first responder discount too, stop by for a drink or three, it will be worth it.
google avatar

Ino R.

Yelp
Love this place... Always serves a great place for a Yelp Elite event after party downtown. Nick Zamora charmed our socks off. Great performer. Looking to see him do the same Union and the squad were great mixologists. I enjoyed the regular Devil in the Details, but also tried a coffee tasting Cold Fashioned. I enjoyed both. The service was fantastic. Still a great hangout place for whiskey fans. Will continue to send folks here and try their cocktails again and again.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
I'm not a bourbon drinker but i loved the vibe of the place. It was GORGEOUS, if you like whiskey definitely a place to check out! The workers were very nice and welcoming as well, their food smelled delicious but I didn't get the chance to try it.
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
Indoors was classy. Outdoor area was covered. Bar staff was friendly and helpful. Was there early so kitchen wasn't ready, so just had a couple of flights.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
This was not a good experience. We popped in to grab a quick drink before a show. The staff was super friendly so no issues there but it all comes down to the whiskey. I ordered a Manhattan and it was no bueno. It was warm, bitter and super weak. Also, a napkin would have been nice. So would have a clean table. Maybe it was just a bad night. I'd give them another shot (pun intended).
google avatar

Angelique D.

Yelp
Cool vibe!! Micheal the bartender is cordial and accommodating!! He's knowledgeable about the whiskey they make & serve here!! The "Trident True" is delicious, very refreshing, hint of peach gives it just the right amount of sweetness. The "Old Fashioned" is amazing!!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I'm kind of a light weight and had two mixed drinks in an hour here with seemingly little buzz affect. Not sure if alcohols content is less than other places on their cocktails?
google avatar

Gyu S.

Yelp
AMAZING speak-easy vibe interior, but that's about all this place has got going for it! got the charcuterie as an appetizer since on the menu it claimed it was made with "PREMIUM MEAT AND CHEESES". now imagine my surprise when i was served a charcuterie board with only SLICED. AMERICAN. CHEESE. assortment crackers that you get from your local grocery store. and the meats? a clump of grease. i was appalled to be served this, it was worse than a lunchable! i wanted to give this place a chance to redeem itself with drinks, but i left after learning this was what they deemed a "premium" charcuterie board to serve to patrons. the description noted "PROVOLONE, AGED SHARP CHEDDAR, AND PARMESAN" not a single one of these were served to me on this board. total false advertisement.

Yelp
Devils River was referred to me for being cigar friendly, a good humidor and a great Old Fashion. We were in town for Fiesta and staying down the street so we thought we would give it a try. It's a very nice setup, a good selection of both cigars and whiskey. First off, the service, the guys working were great, friendly and attentive. As the process of making the Old Fashion started, I thought, wow this is going to be great. I hate to sound like a snob but if you're looking for a specific drink with so much history it needs to have a couple of things and these did not. You cannot put ice cubes in this drink, and being a whiskey joint should know, it has to have an ice block/ball or the bourbon gets watered down. So I can't say that they had a great bourbon. Then to make matters worse, no cherry...? Ran out? An Old Fashion done right is artistry, the bartender knew what he was doing but didn't have the supplies. It's a very nice place, enjoyed my cigar but really would have loved my Old Fashion done right. P.S. I like that management reads these reviews and comments; the reviews are consistent with mine. A great venue, great service but the staff isn't being given the tools (supplies) to make the whole visit great.

Gabriel T.

Yelp
Been here a few times and we absolutely love it. The ambiance is awesome. Very rustic yet refined. Elegant casual. The service is great. All the bartenders are friendly. They do have food that us infused with their whiskey. Which is the cherry on the cake. They have good whiskey. The Agave Bourbon is great and I love the Coffee Bourbon. They have great Signature cocktails. One of my favorites is The Barista Bautista that's made using the coffee Bourbon. This place is great and will have to make a night out of it next time they have live music. I have a recommendation of a guy that would be a great fit for them on that front.
google avatar

Sherice R.

Yelp
Hands down the best service. Today was my 41rst birthday and Garrett took care of me and my friends. He helped me pick out a good cigar and drink to go with it.
google avatar

Mari G.

Yelp
We went here for a drink, and we're pleasantly surprised to find a live band and outdoor seating area. They had a great selection of drinks to choose from, and a wonderful selection of cigars as well. The music, Jackie Not Marilyn, was great. The bartenders were great and laid-back. It was a really lovely breezy evening.
google avatar

Cyndi A.

Yelp
Michael and Matt are ready to show you all there is to know about some Texas bourbon! Come on in and give their brown water a try! You don't want to miss out on trying their amazing selection of cocktails. They even serve wine for those that may want a glass. The customer service experience was top notch and the ambiance was everything and the welcoming even better! They even had some karaoke from Jackie not Marilyn! So catchy hahaha
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
Indoor and outdoor seating with a speakeasy in the basement! They offer happy hour from 4-6 daily, you get $3 off all drinks! They offer a variety of cocktails and now serve wine also. The mojito style was amazingggg and I really enjoyed the coffee self one.
google avatar

Yelp
So, I want to say that we were right next door to this spot. It was a really good find and I'm glad that we were so close. We can literally walk out and walk in in 30 seconds. We got in at about 1:00 in the morning or so, and we were greeted by the bartender. He took care of us. He let us try a couple of the different brands of whiskey, and a lot of them were actually super good. I actually ordered a couple of shots of the flagship whiskey and it was actually pretty good, it was actually great honestly. I had zero issues with it. I feel like it'd be really great in an old fashioned. And if you know how I review things, you know that I don't know fashion is my go to. The place is a really big establishment that you can basically have all the space and see that you want. They have live music on a lot of weekend nights so make sure you check that out. Also, on a lot of night you can go downstairs and you can get to the Speakeasy Park of the establishment. And if you know anything about my reviews, you know I love a good speakeasy! I will definitely be coming back before I leave San antonio. The vibe was good, there was not anybody there so we got the full attention of the staff. The staff explained that the Devils river is in several areas and states. I'm not actually from Texas or georgia, but he said that it's in multiple places in the area. I checked that it's actually in my zip code! So I will be picking up a bottle! It's something that is just the right amount of chill, and the right amount of spice and bite.
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
This was such a great experience. Loved this history behind the business. The appetizers were delicious. The service and the staff couldn't have been nicer . Loved the ambiance , and the tour of the actual distillery. It is amazing how it is made in house. If you are in San Antonio definitely do not miss stopping in for a tour and some great cocktails.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
So beautiful inside with a little speak easy downstairs. Lots of cozy seating areas to enjoy your drinks. There is also a nice patio to enjoy a cigar and listen to live music. We did order a few cigars and the lady was nice enough to cut them. We chilled on the patio for some time and enjoyed the music.
google avatar

Stevie W.

Yelp
Our bartender was so awesome and friendly, we spoke about music, and the local scene there. They've got a really cool speakeasy in the bottom with some good grunge music playing. I got a Trident True which is their signature whiskey with a peach and mint muddle. It was really refreshing and delicious. I enjoyed my time there
google avatar

Lakisha M.

Yelp
I must say! This was a very nice relaxing spot. The drinks was on point and overall atmosphere was nice. They also had a live band and you're able to purchase cigars inside and smoke cigars on the outside patio area. My only drawback would be the noise levels. Although the band was great, they had the speakers on another level of loud... like beyond loud... if they can tweak that just a bit to where you're not receiving instant migraines, this would be a perfect 5. And shout out to my dude at the bar. I am not a whiskey drinker, but Lord have mercy, that whiskey margarita was everything! Hope to catch you next weekend when we visit!
google avatar

Erica V.

Yelp
This place is fantastic - a whiskey-lover's dream! The bartenders were friendly and engaging, the entertainment/music on the patio was so fun and talented, and the drinks were so enjoyable! Great date night spot! We went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't too busy. The patio was so cozy with heaters that we didn't even need coats on an otherwise chilly winter night. I can't wait to come back for a distillery tour and to check out their speakeasy!
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Great environment to relax and have a drink. My fiancée and I visited when we were looking for a wedding venue. Great venue. Very fun. Perfect place for a theme wedding. Even though we did not ultimately choose this venue, I definitely recommend it
google avatar

Rodney A.

Yelp
We had an awesome time here! Met the owner and talked whiskey for a bit. Got an off menu drink by John the bartender called a wise guy. Very smooth and lemony. Drinks here are NOT cheap, so know that going in. Live music on the patio is a wonderful addition to the area. Friendly staff here was super helpful. I bought a couple bottles to go. Good whiskey! I just found out it's cheaper at Costco though. But Costco's liquor store only carries 3 of their whiskeys. It would be awesome if the kitchen is able to stay open longer. And I love there's a parking lot right across the street, great location.

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun place to hang out whilst sippin' some whiskeys. We happened to notice this place on Google maps while looking around for interesting places in the area and we decided to give them a go. It was late afternoon and kind of overcast and windy outside, so it was the perfect refuge for a bit of aperitif before dinner. The place was very spacious, with interesting old-timey decor; it was also quite empty at that time. The friendly young man behind the counter explained their whiskey flights and we decided to get both so we could taste everything. They also had a selection of intriguing-sounding cocktails, but we were there for the whiskey: THE DEVILS ALLEY -- $14 Devils River Bourbon (90-proof), Devils River Rye Whiskey (90-proof), and Devils River Coffee Bourbon (80-proof). THE DEVILS BOULEVARD -- $24 Devils River Barrel Strength (117-proof), Devils River Distiller's Select Bourbon (120-proof) and our selection of Devils River Single Barrel Bourbon (proof varies). The bartender told us that they had more seating downstairs, along with board games and corn hole so we decided to enjoy our flights downstairs. It was a cavernous space, also empty at the time, so we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed a game of Scrabble and some corn hole while sipping their enjoyable whiskies (while all good, we preferred the lower-proof varieties and the coffee bourbon was a bit too sweet for me), and had a great time.
google avatar

Monique H.

Yelp
As I was walking down the River Walk, I saw the word "distillery" and I pumped the brakes real hard. This was a welcome surprise and nice place to catch my breath for a minute. I got a flight to try (Bourbon, Rye, Coffee) and really enjoyed the offerings they had. I wanted to try the Agave one, but alas I was already feeling a little tingly after my 3. Of the 3, I surprisingly found that their coffee flavored was one of my favorites. Sweet and smoky. The interior has a cigar shop and open windows to see the distilling process. A very pretty space indeed.

Dirk K.

Yelp
They are pleasant and responsive but not engaged. The drinks were excellent the maybe is because I have heard their product is not all texas made any longer. To be honest Mavericks around the corner was a superior experience in comparison.
google avatar

Liv M.

Yelp
Stopped by to enjoy a cocktail or two. The service, ambiance, and bourbons were great. We sampled ranch water with agave bourbon, it was refreshing, light with undertones of sweetness. My friend had the old fashioned with blueberry syrup and walnut, super delicious. A lovely and warm aesthetically pleasing location. Olive, our server was top notch!

Sandra B.

Yelp
OMG, no words! This is a definite must-do when visiting San Antonio, Riverwalk area. So glad we stumbled into this place on our last day in SA. Boos were AMAZING, establishment and ambiance wonderful, and bartenders superb!-- they both knew their drinks, did awesome with explaining options, and the discount for first responders-definitely icing on the cake. I can't wait to come back and spend more time at this establishment. 5 stars! Must visit!
google avatar

Charmaine S.

Yelp
Amazing location for a mixer. Came here for the greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and great service from the staff accommodating all participants of the event! The drink was good. The bartenders were professional. The library on the lower level with keg barrels were a good touch to the old style feel. Recommended!
google avatar

Nate J.

Yelp
We only came here forr a few drinks, but we did get some of the best Old fashioned I'd ever had! The Old fashioned was perfect, not too sweet the correct cherry and slice of orange peel, Perfect in my book! The Cold Fashioned was awesome too, great coffee flavor but still had a mean bite! Walked downstairs and played some games that were laying around, went to the restroom and was scared by the scarecrow in one of the rooms lol! Def go back when downtown to some more!! Great atmosphere, clean bar, great staff!
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
I stopped by to try out their distilled selections. I had an Old Fashion, and it was delicious. Cool place to boot!

Yelp
Great place to hang out and enjoy whiskey or mixed drinks. Live music on Saturday nights. Very friendly staff. Very clean not what I would expect in downtown. The only problem is. The can't sell full bottles of whiskey after 9 pm. So couldn't take home a nice gift. Will go back again. The whiskey is good and the mixed drinks are strong.
