Boston-Area Restaurants and Bars That Closed in Fall 2021 | Eater Boston

"A longtime Financial District Indian restaurant that operated for over a decade before closing; the company’s original Somerville operation continues to serve individual orders and catering and also appears at farmers markets, with local delivery available from that location." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
A no frills spot for everyday home-style Indian food. I always get the veggie combo and it’s satisfying every time. The food is light and not your typical, heavy, creamy Indian fare, which is much appreciated especially for lunch time. The woman who works there is super sweet! Highly recommend.

Google
Absolutely the Best Meal of Our Trip! We visited D Guru on the very last day of our Boston stay, and I honestly wish we had found it sooner — it was hands-down the best food we had during our entire trip! Everything was delicious, flavorful, and made with care. The staff was so welcoming and kind — they even packed us an extra to-go box for our flight home, which we truly appreciated. When we got home and reheated the food, it still tasted amazing — just as fresh and satisfying as when we first had it. One of the best parts? It’s halal — which made us feel even more comfortable and excited to try everything. This place is a gem, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you're in Boston, don’t miss out on D Guru. I only wish it wasn’t our last stop!

Google
I haven’t had so nice chapati anywhere is mass so far. The food reminded me of indian college canteens. The quality and quantity both will meet your expectations. It is somewhat similar to box8 if you know what box8 is. They serve three combos everyday for lunch. 1) Veg combo , 2) Meat combo and 3) sea food combo. They also serves Indian condiments on the side, like pickles/tamarind chutney/ pudina chutney. You get to choose what you want. Their menu changes every day. I tried palak paneer, dal makhni and both felt like home made sabjis. Overall pretty good place for a quick lunch if you are in downtown boston. I won’t recommend biryani as it’s not a DUM biryani. Also, for biryani some better options are available in downtown Boston.

Google
Delicious Indian food for a great price! Lunch combo is $13 and you get two entrees of your choice, basmati rice, 2 piece of naan and chutneys on the side. Cannot beat the quantity, quality and price. My go-to lunch place when I am in the Office!

Peter K.

Google
I really enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala I ordered from D'Guru a couple months ago. The price was very fair. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious. Today I went back to try Lamb Vindaloo. It's also delicious, and the service was as friendly as ever. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Google
Best Indian budget meal. You will get enough for what you are paying. I had Lamb Curry, navratan daal with roti and rice. Worth the price.

Google
One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to! Dguru offers amazing food, incredible hospitality, and a wonderful dining experience. Tasnim and the entire team are always so kind and welcoming. Since the restaurant is located right beside my workplace, it became my go-to spot for lunch every week. Now that I’m leaving the area, I know I’ll deeply miss their delicious food and warm service. Best wishes to the entire Dguru team—please continue making amazing food with the same heartwarming hospitality. You’ve truly set the standard for excellent dining! My favorites and best dishes are: 1. Chicken tikka masala 2. Chicken keema with mutter 3. Chicken cooked with coriander ❤️

Google
I got the chicken marsala very small portion half liquid..dry chicken. The potatoes side was good. The meal had the syingiest portion and I usually won't buy food that has been sitting for hours in small bins. A total ripoff worth about $1.35 I fed most of this awful food to the seagulls. I PAID TOO MUCH.

Yelp
Very solid spot! I ordered D'Guru from UberEats and picked up my food in person. There weren't many people dining in person, so it might be more of a takeout spot. I was very impressed with the portion size... and I can certainly eat a lot. The meal was also pretty filling, especially because it came with both naan and rice. In terms of the main dishes, I was a big fan of the Aloo Baingan (eggplant and potatoes) and also enjoyed the Hare Moong Ki Dal (lentils). I'd be happy to come back again!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a good place for lunch! I got the butter chicken with saag that came with two plain naans. I also ordered one vegetable pakora which was AMAZING. For $1.50? It was so worth it. My whole lunch only costed about $15 lol if you ever had Indian food, it can get pretty pricey. But for their lunch menu here, it's so affordable. Highly recommend getting it for lunch if you're in the area!

Harvey L.

Yelp
Disappointed with dry chicken and raw potato. Also, vegetable samosa order had only one...other samosas were listed as one only. Please indicate there is only one per order. Had better here, maybe it's a Monday thing?

Rich E.

Yelp
Sad to see happen but no longer a weekly stop. Portions have dropped by 1/2 since younger employees began serving. Lucky to get 5 maybe 6 dollars worth of food in a $17 combo lunch plate. All sauce and rice my entire office stopped going in September

Smarty T.

Yelp
Its just meh! IT used to be really good at some point. I ordered corriander chicken which was tough and chewy and the curry was watery. Naan was uninspiring.

Yelp
Super reliable Indian place. Good food and nice staff. The new location is way nicer than the old one--much more spacious with better temperature control.

Yelp
I'm kind of torn here, because I really like Indian food and really dislike lunch restaurants in downtown. So you'd think this would be a delicious ghee-covered lifesaver in the middle of a ocean of bland rice bowls. And it is...sometimes. The food is extremely hit or miss. Sometimes it's really flavorful, spicy and everything I want from a heaping spoonful of Indian. But sometimes it tastes like someone added water, too much oil or just disappointment. Their eggplant is everything eggplant shouldn't be. Their lamb is good, but is usually a single mouthful of meat swimming in a lake of butter. I do like that they give you a big hunk of naan with the combos and that, if you choose right, you get a solid amount of food. But that just makes it more frustrating, because when it's good I don't want to eat anywhere else and when it's bad I question my life choices. I likely will go back at some point, but just because there's not really anything like it in the area.

Yelp
Not bad for indian food smack dab in the middle of dtx/south station. I did not get the combo the first time I went, i just opted for the chicken tikka masala with white rice and it was pretty good. I do wish the curry was more thick but it seems to be a trend to be thin. My meal was 7.50 and with a mango lassi included it was $10.50. The mango lassi/ other drinks are in the fridge to the left. The line goes very quick. Some seating if you get here early... the spice level was higher than mild so that got me sweatin'~ They take card which I like. The chicken was sort of dry ..but then some piece weren't..I would definitely return when I crave indian. I cannot even compare this against the food truck in dewey square because it's different than that.

Yelp
I've passed this place a bunch of times in their old downtown location and I was always curious. I finally had the opportunity to come in today (to their new place at 92 Bedford street) and I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a meat combo plate with lamb curry, mater paneer, naan bread, rice and a vegetable samosa and all were excellent! The samosa in particular I liked, it didn't taste frozen or old like they sometimes do. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The mater paneer was a little soupy but was still good and made a nice gravy for the rice. There aren't many options for Indian food in downtown so it's very nice to have this place to go to. I will definitely come back!
google avatar

Jay A.

Yelp
tl;dr - love this place so much that I make a trip into downtown at least twice a month just to get it. I can only vouch for the lamb/goat curry combo with Palak Paneer option because that is all I get. One of my favorite Indian joints in Boston. I've never changed my order since I first tried the place so I can't speak to other dishes, but the Lamb/Goat Curry combo with Palak Paneer is absolutely delicious! The lamb/goat is very very tender. I actually live fairly far from the location but make an effort to make the trip at least once every couple of weeks. The food is tasty and generous in portions. The flavors really remind me of home cooked meals I've experienced visiting Indian family friends. The food may be a little salty and oily at times, so it won't be the most palatable to those sensitive to these types of dishes. My wife got the lentils once and she said "it felt heavy" while I was pretty happy with it. The veggie samosas and pakoras are flavorful but are quite oily as well. I still get them though...
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Big sizes, too salty. I've had lunch here twice now. Had the veg combo both times. The serving sizes are hefty here, and the food is authentic. The combo can be hard to finish honestly and it's reasonably priced at $10.50 (rice, two vegetarians sides, warm naan). However, both times I visited for lunch I found the food to be not too spicy like some other reviews but rather waay too salty and buttery. I will say it's delicious food but almost to the point of overkill. The salt factor had me down two bottles of water before finishing half. The naan tastes like butter and is almost sopping in it. Worth a try for anyone reading but, ye be warned- Sodium overload.

Yelp
Surprised I haven't dropped by here earlier! One of the few Indian places in the area. They are cafeteria style, so they have rotating options daily. Usually have at least two chicken options, a variety of veg options and at least one lamb/fish curry. The combo meals are a pretty good deal - you get a full lunch with 2 curries, naan, rice, and a chutney. Naan is pretty lackluster - somewhat floppy, but soft, and not really flavorful at all. Curries are flavorful but are medium spicy - since it is caf style there is not really an option to make it less spicy. Portions are very large for the price. There isn't really a huge backup here during lunch, partially because the staff moves everyone so fast. Overall a solid lunch joint.

Yelp
I feel a little bad giving a bad review, due to the "pros" I'm about to outline... but... see the "con" below those pros. The Pros: - Very authentic feel to the place, the food, etc. Definitely the real deal. - Very pleasant service - Gigantic portions (my lunch felt like 5 lbs of food -- good for at least two meals for a normal non-American human) The Con: - I couldn't actually eat my food because it was entirely too spicy. Do not -- I repeat -- do NOT go here if you're someone like me, who doesn't enjoy pain with his food. I'm fine with mildly spicy foods. This was not that. Keep in mind that I ordered the items she said were NOT spicy. All I can say to that is LOL. Oh well.
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
A great spot for quick Indian food. Once it's your turn in line, you choose the size of your take out plate, someone scoops the delicious items of what you want, your condiment (tamarind, mint chutney or onion pickle) and you pay. It takes 1 minute! What they have out rotates daily and there are definitely days better than others. My favorites are ones where there's palak paneer (spinach with paneer cheese cubes) and the daal makhani (delicious and hearty spicy lentils). I think Thursday? I really love their rice, it's so fragrant and aromatic. But I'm not a fan of their naan. It's edible, but it's rather dense and a bit oily. Still, this is a great spot. Beware if you take the food back to your cube... the smell is hard to hide and you might make your coworkers jealous!
google avatar

Shrikant M.

Yelp
D'guru is located in downtown Boston. I'd say on of the only good Indian take out place you'd find in downtown. I usually go for a non vegeterian combo.

Yelp
Please note I am a white girl from Connecticut who first had Indian food in college. I by no means know anything about what makes Indian food authentic, all I can comment on is the happiness of my tastebuds. They were happy. I've worked in fidi for about 6 years now and today was the first time I made it to D'Guru.. not because I haven't been dying to try it for ages, mostly because I try to keep my lunches limited to foods with neutral scents so as not to offend my coworkers. Today I said "screw it, I want Indian" and I am so glad I did. I ended up getting the chicken tikka and the dal. Both were perfectly cooked and super flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of heat the food had. It was by no means an assault on the tastebuds but it left a pleasant tingle on the lips for this girl who loves spicy food. People who are super sensitive to spice should definitely inquire about the more mild dishes. The rice was cooked well and also well seasoned - but word of warning, they use whole spices in the rice so if you eat aimlessly at your desk like I do, you might get a big bite of a whole cardamom pod or whole clove without expecting it! I've seen a few reviews that were disappointed with the naan. I actually thought it was quite good. You can't expect a takeout place to have the same quality naan as a normal restaurant. The wrapping makes it deflate a little and get ever so slightly soggy, but it is in no way inedible. It also looked like they had roti and papadum if you aren't a fan of naan. Will definitely be back!

Samantha L.

Yelp
I wouldn't go there again. My meal was very oily, never had an Indian food like that before. It was a big serving.
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
The Bottom Line: A focused menu, a small restaurant, and a cafeteria-style ordering system make for a quick lunch. The food itself is very hit or miss. Try: Chicken Tikka Masala Pro: The folks behind the counter are quick and professional. The pricing is pretty decent, too. Con: The restaurant is small, so do not expect seating, just in case. Additionally, while I was not happy with my meal (soggy, too bland with the chicken, too spicy with the dal), others were pleased with their dishes.
google avatar

Priyam S.

Yelp
I love coming to D'Guru! It has that non-restaurant flavor and quality. The line can be pretty long but it moves quick! Great spot right in downtown Boston to grab a quick lunch to go. My favorite is always the chicken tikka masala and the tadka dal. It's a hefty portion though...I'm always ready for nap time afterward :P The only reason I docked one star is because it's often pretty oily/buttery so I tend to need myself to be in a #yolo mood when coming here.
google avatar

Molly D.

Yelp
Love D'Guru for lunch in downtown! They have a veggie combo plate that includes rice, two veggie options and naan bread. Almost all of them are vegan. They offer several delicious chutneys to accompany your meal that taste delicious on top of the rice. The food is flavorful, filling and satisfying. And spicy! An excellent alternative to the other food options in downtown/financial district, which are mostly Mediterranean.
google avatar

M J.

Yelp
Only reason this restaurant has high ratings is because the White folk in the financial district don't know what good indian food taste like. This food is trash. SHANTI in dorchester or pretty much anywhere else I've ever eaten indian food is better. They are stingy and they don't give you free naan, and they charge for their chutneys. Expensive for sub par flavor, the spicy dIshes are just heat, no flavor. Oh and the best part...they're rude! Lol try it if you want but if you have a developed taste pallet you will not appreciate this cuisine.
google avatar

Noa C.

Yelp
I almost don't want to give it good reviews bc I don't want it to get so popular. This place is amazing!! Fast, fresh and delicious! You get huge portions and tons to choose from. I've tried the chicken curry, chicken tika masla, aloo gohbi, and Chana dal. All were amazing and service with basmati rice and naan. It's very good!! A perfect lunch!
google avatar

Al R.

Yelp
This place is hailed as an authentic eatery, and it certainly seems that way. The food portions are very healthy and the selection is great, but I was not blown away by how "amazing" everyone said it was on some of these reviews. Just for some contextual background, I love Indian and Pakistani cuisine. I live with a desi. I've eaten home cooked meals. I can even make it myself! The quality of the meats were excellent, but as I said, it was just OK. I don't think I'll eat here again.
google avatar

Polly S.

Yelp
THE place to go if you're craving authentic Indian food in the middle of downtown Boston. Its a lunchtime spot, so don't go expecting fine dining or even nice tables. Think cafeteria. The options are not extensive but enough to have a variety. I've been here more than a few times and I'm always satisfied and utterly stuffed. I tend to go for the lamb/goat combo (meat is tender every time) so can't vouch for the chicken and seafood though my co-workers haven't complained. Its Indian so expect a certain level of spice but not so much that you can't taste the food. Having said that, I can generally handle spicy food.

C C.

Yelp
Hair, eww. Dipped the naan into the eggplant and got an unexpected surprise. Both my husband and my hair is blonde so not sure where this guy came from. Atleast I discovered it on the second bite but had to throw away the whole thing
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
This place was super tasty! Quick food and friendly service. Plenty of places to sit. Not a ton of choices, but what they had was delicious. The chicken combo gave me enough for about 2.5 meals, all for ten dollars!
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I ever had! Quick service, delicious food and kind people
google avatar

Lucinda A.

Yelp
I enjoy this restaurant because they give you a lot for your dollar. During my lunch breaks the line is always out the door. The amount of flavor is delicious. You can tell they cook from the heart. I always get the tikka massala plate combo. The have great customer service as well and they are used to the rush. I'm always immediately in and out. Would I suggest this place, absolutely yes. Lastly it doesn't open late so get there any time before 3pm. Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Trying new restaurants and new cuisines is always a learning experience. Things I have learned from D'Guru: 1. They have a rotating menu. If it's there this week, it may not be there next week, so if you like it then cherish the memory of it in your heart forever. 2. Since things are in a different language, point at what you want rather than guessing the name. If you try to guess, you will probably be very very wrong. * Fried okra is nothing like fried pickles. * Fried okra is gross. 3. If you wait inside too long, you will smell like curry for the rest of the week. 4. Their chicken tikka masala is the perfect balance of spiciness. 5. Yum. 6. It's a little expensive for takeout, in my opinion ($9.50 for the chicken combo!). However, the ingredients are quite fresh and of pretty good quality so that makes up for it.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
I love you D'Guru. No, really I do. You've improved the selection of food in DTX immensely with your huge portions and affordable prices. Your rotating menu means that I won't get bored even when I obsessively eat here every day for a week and a half. Your employees always great me with a smile, never chastise me when I attempt to say things like aloo baingain and it comes out sounding remarkably like "I'm an idiot" and the cashier always remembers that I don't want a bag to throw away in the office. My experiences with Indian food are limited to other people ordering for me and buffets so I am certainly no expert but everything I've had here has been delicious. On a side note I've straight up seen people from Mumbai Chopstix buying their naan at Trader Joe's and I myself have purchased naan there and it doesn't look like this. Maybe it is frozen but it's never been bad. If you want a seafood curry I'd recommend going early in the day as the quantity of seafood diminishes later in the afternoon otherwise stick with the veg options for around $7 (!) and enjoy an embarrassment of riches as you choose from the lion's share of the dishes offered that day. What a lovely change of pace when you're used to seeing all meat all the time around here. Besties forever D'Guru For evah evah

Yelp
Decent Indian Food, primarily a take out place with limited seating. Pros: Decent Indian food (veg. Combo) but no wow factor. Definitely better than Gourmet India and several other Indian restaurants. The Roti was warm and fresh. The Saag Paneer was spiced just right...but could be considered medium to mild for tongues from the subcontinent (India) Cons: I walked in a little after 11:00 am hoping to try some Chicken but noticed a steaming layer of oil on the surface of all meat dishes and wondered if a Canola Oil tanker had spilled some graciously, I opted for the Veggie Combo; Daal(lentils), Sag Paneer (Spinach + Indian Cheese cubes), Rice (Basmati variety) and Roti (wheat bread) I got very little Daal in comparison to the heaping serving of Basmati Rice & I got way too much Saag Paneer, But I'll be back and hopefully the staff can serve the dish with the right proportions.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING alert!! Salmonella Warning - DO NOT EAT HERE!! On Thursday 1/20/2011 around 1:30pm, I did a take-out of chicken vindaloo, and aloo mater, and did not eat any dinner that night as I was very full from the high calories. In the middle of the night, I had a violent food poisoning episode, and had to be hospitalized (due to dehydration and needing ivy). The doctor and I agreed that it was most likely due to the chicken I had ingested from D'Guru. Even though I used to enjoy their food, I will NEVER go back again. D'Guru does not place sanitation as a priority in their practice, and they may be under-cooking their meat products. This is a very health hazardous practice. I've discouraged my other co-workers who have had lunch there, and they are convinced never to return. I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but this was an important message I wished to give to others so that no one else has to suffer like I did. Thank you for reading!

Rob K.

Yelp
Not sure what all the high praise is from Yelpers. I'm so bummed too, because my office is next door. Upon another reviewer's suggestion, I tried the coconut shrimp curry. Flavor-wise, it was good with the right heat, but the curry was not smooth - kind of oily. The naan was shameful. Shameful. The portions: in a 3 section to-go container the largest section was filled with rice rather than the shrimp curry (who does that?). For $11+ this smacks of bad-value.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
Okay, real time review: I went to D'Guru this afternoon not only craving Indian food, but at the suggestion of a co-worker and partially because of the reviews here. What I should have implored was my more sound judgment when it comes to obtaining accurate information. Usually, I trust the opinions of a few Yelpers that have rarely led me astray, having become trusted because I share very similar opinions on almost every spot we've dined in common, yet never together. Clearly, this time, having forgone that step, I am sad to admit that I am more disappointed in myself than with the lack luster food. The shrimp curry was flavorless and borderline inedible. I'm not even sure if that was shrimp come to think of it. I mean, it looked like shrimp but it just fell off the tail and tasted something like cat food; yes, I've eaten cat food! Typical to most Indian restaurants in the United States, Guru has catered to the masses of babies who can not handle a little spicy food. The sauce is bland! Also, this is not even naan. I'm not sure what sort of bread this is, but I can tell you that it's straight up crap! It's most likely frozen, bulk factory made garbage that passes as naan to people who don't know what real Indian food is supposed to taste like. For the value, I suppose $10 is the going rate for lunch downtown (good or not), but I was really hoping for a taste of home. I've been spoiled by my other two favorite spots so until one of my trusted sources can provide me with a credible tip on the next good Indian spot, it's gonna be just those two at the top. D'Guru doesn't even come close to comparing, although it smells okay, but that's not why we eat food now is it?
google avatar

Suzanne L.

Yelp
I LOVE the Somerville location, so I was really excited to go here - but it's really different, and not in a good way. The naan is chewy but bland (made from white flour) - from reading other reviews, I know now you can request the delicious whole-wheat roti that is the default in Somerville. The food is way oiler here, and I suspect they use more cream than the other location too. I'm guessing they are appealing to white American Financial District palates. Oh well. Also, I understand that everyone is in a rush at lunch, but I find it unbelievably appetizing to see them serve the (oily and weirdly watery) food so hastily that it drips into the other metal compartment things (what does one call these?). How is a vegetarian dish supposed to stay vegetarian if it's been showered with a little bit of chicken tikka masala multiple times? The service is very nice though. I appreciate the free chutney too.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
D'Guru! Downtown does not deserve you! I hate that you close at 3:00 and sometimes even a little bit earlier. I hate that you never answer your phone, so I can't call everyday to find out if you're serving coconut shrimp curry. But these are the complaints of an obsessive stalker. I love that you stash warm chapatis for me under the counter. I love that sometimes you will surprise me by sprinkling boondi in my raita. I adooooooooore your coconut milk curries. Please never leave me. Now, go make me a curry... an egg curry.

Yelp
Guru has come to downtown Boston, and brought with it delicious Indian food, fast and casual, at a good price. It fills the aching void between the frankly awful food-court representation at Downtown Crossing, and the two white-tablecloth options nearby, and I expect it will be a hit here. D'Guru offers a limited menu that changes daily: typically one or two chicken dishes, one or two goat or lamb dishes, one seafood dish, and four to six vegetarian dishes. A lot of Indian vegetarian food includes dairy, but some of Guru's dishes are vegan and marked as such (four out of five on today's menu). Combos include two main dishes, rice and naan and are easily big enough for two meals. They also sell a la carte entrees and sides. The food is generously spiced -- not so much hot as rich in cardamom and clove and such -- so if you prefer your Indian food on the bland side, this might not be to your taste. I like it just fine, and find it to be much less heavy than the typical Boston-area Indian food (as long as you don't lose your mind and try and eat the entire combo). One intangible that I'll add about this place: they seem to really love what they're doing and really care what people think about their food. They smile and react with pleasure when people make yummy noises. This seems like an obvious thing for restaurant staff to do, but I guess it isn't as common as you'd think, because it really stands out when it happens. A trip to a Guru location is always a delight because of the obvious pleasure that they take in serving up their delicious food.
google avatar

Anusha C.

Yelp
This place is like "One time go". I'd say it's not a pure Indian cuisine but you can feel the Indian flavor with a mild taste, less spicy.
google avatar

Juliana S.

Yelp
This place was surprising and impressive. I'm pretty picky about Indian food I've found in the States and yet D'Guru does it right. The food is fresh, fast, and delicious. Plus, the offerings aren't always what you'd typically expect at an Indian takeout place in Boston or most U.S. cities (meaning--they go well beyond the Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi, and tandoori chicken, and offered really good lentils (dal) and okra last time I went in). They were also really generous with the naan, which is always a plus. I love the combo-style setup as well (the closest thing you can get to a lunch thali in the neighborhood) and the prices are great, especially given how fresh everything is. And extra bonus--they label everything clearly as vegan, vegetarian, or meat, so for vegans, there is no wondering whether a certain dish uses real ghee or has cream in it. So excited to have this place down the street from the office!

Yelp
Given the shocking lack of choice, I will continue to frequent this little establishment. First some good points: it's clean. The line moves fast. There's a limited number of rotating choices so people don't have choice paralysis. And the sauces/flavor profiles are delicious with just the right around of heat to satisfy everyone. Now the not so great: the naan is terrible. I think it's Trader Joe's, which means a really thick doughy pita. The stuff in the sauces are a little inconsistent, i.e. chicken may be a little on the dry side and lentils a little undercooked. They are not egregious errors, but more attention to execution would benefit everyone, no? To end on a good note, if you eat everything, you will definitely not be hungry. The container is massive, and they fill it up! Oh, wait, another good note. They accept all plastic! Yay!

Yelp
I've eaten at plenty of Indian restaurants and this one is not that great at all. I suppose if you like bland food, it would be good for some of you people that cant handle real Indian food. I had the palak paneer, chicken biryani and naan. The palak paneer was so bland, the biryani was ok. &the worst was the naan- which the manager told me were frozen! Overall, pretty disappointing.

Yelp
Oh man I love this place... i love indian food so perhaps im biased but this is the closest place for me to get indian near my job and i love it! Their menu rotates so be sure to check on their website if theyre serving your fave that day, although if you go with something else you may be surprised! (I had some chicken curry the other day because they were not serving my precious lamb curry that day and i think im a convert!) If you get a serving of curry + rice + samosa + naan itll be about $9 or so. Not too bad really, if you split the meal in half you got a solid lunch and a bombin' dinner (delicious, spicy dinner!). The staff is nice, food is good and prices arent bad. They also take cards :)

Yelp
I got the veggie combo; the dahl and veggie korma were both watery and oversalted. My friend says the chicken just wasn't good. His palak paneer was mushy and flavorless. I'm giving it two stars because it was edible.

Yelp
Love at first spicy bite. I was so thoughtfully introduced to this delicious hideaway by the owner himself. After I had met him and told him my pal Damien S loved his food, having tried Guru out in Somerville, Mr. P graciously brought me some of his delicious chicken tikka masala, along with some palak paneer, and steamed basmati rice. I was in indian food heaven. Every bite tasted of a far off land I had only dreamed of but could now grasp so tightly. The place is located in the financial, mostly a to-go style takeaway but home to a few tables and chairs. Come up to the counter, pick your meal, and have it presented to you in a nice portable to-go container. Perfection. Transportable Indian food. Yesssssssssssssssss.

Yelp
I think this place is great! It's right near my office so its a good lunch option. Definitely a casual, take-out place and for what it is, it is very good. I had two vegetarian dishes and I enjoyed them both. They were very flavorful but not too (hot) spicy. I love that they have lots of vegetarian (and vegan) options and that they are clearly labeled as such. In my opinion, they give you a LOT of food. I didnt think I would finish the two curries with all the rice but I did because it was so delicious... and I guess I'm a fatty. I will agree that the naan is a bit lacking, but honestly I didnt even need to eat it because there was so much else. I think rice + naan is a bit excessive, no? I will definitely be coming back and I can't wait to try more dishes. Also, another thing was that they were very friendly, which is always nice. The server was very patient even though I was indecicive and was like "I'll have the dal, no the potato... no wait actually yes the dal." Will lapse into a food coma now :)

Yelp
I'm a fan of Guru the Caterer in Somerville, so I was excited to see D'Guru under construction right by my office. Having just opened, I stopped in today to try it out. D'Guru doesn't have a buffet; instead, they have four different combos for you to try. Veggie ($7), Chicken ($8), Lamb ($9) and Seafood ($10). Each of the meat combos includes one dish of that type, plus a veggie dish as a side, rice & bread. The veggie combo gives you two veggie choices. I went with the chicken and was happy with strong, spicy flavor and more than enough food to fill me. I was told that the bread was naan, but I think it was really chapati (baked and grilled, looks sort of like pita bread). It was good bread, but not the super-tasty (and pretty fattening) naan that you may be used to from other Indian restaurants. I finished my meal satisfied; I'll hit D'Guru again when I'm craving Indian.

Yelp
4.42 Stars A simple take-away place with quality food and prices that are in line with the market in this pricey area of town. This is the best Indian food in the Financial District and probably in all of Boston Proper. I get the meal combos, sometimes, the chicken dishes, often the lamb and goat, but I go all veggie too. I think I have run through items, the ingredients are always top quality, the food is seasoned, not "spiced" it always has a kick, they certainly don't dumb down the heat. The Naan is warm and tasty and they have onion, cilantro chutney, taramind and pickles at the cashier. The line moves quickly, I can walk there from South Station and be back at my desk in less that 15 minutes. Seating is a little tight, but if you go later, after the rush, you can get a spot. The people there are mostly friendly and upbeat, they seem to be patient with questions from what I have observed. * Adding a single somosa bumps you up to $10, I get veggie sometimes, and skip the Naan. * I usually don't finish a "combo" in one sitting, the containers are great for use at home since they are compartmented. * A real value in time, price considering other Financial Offerings. * To the above I would add a healthier choice.

Yelp
All. The. Food. Enough for 2 meals, deliciously spicy and buttery naan. I'm too stuffed to write more but the choices are abundant and varied! I stuck with the basics, Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer, for my first visit. Most return to be more adventurous!
