"Dialogue is a tiny, very fancy restaurant inside a Santa Monica food court, and home to one of our favorite prix-fixe menus in all of LA. While you can’t get that during quarantine, you can order one of their tremendous weekly takeout menus, featuring mains like chimichurri salmon, hanger steak, or maitake mushrooms, along with tomato, strawberry and burrata salad, and stone fruit cobbler. Even better? This may be your best shot to experience Dialogue without also breaking the bank - their three-course dinners cost less than $50. Open Tuesday-Saturdays, check their Instagram for weekly menu updates. Available for pre-order." - brett keating
"There are special occasion restaurants you use for when you got a promotion or it’s your best friend’s birthday. And then there are special occasion restaurants for when you inherit your grandfather’s priceless Hummel figurine collection. Dialogue is for the latter. You enter the small room with a handful of tables and a kitchen counter through a food court on the Promenade and end up eating 21 courses of inventive, delicious food that will set you back about $700 for two. Good thing you sold that Apple Tree Boy for $10,000." - jess basser sanders, amy clark
"If you’re a control freak wine drinker who can’t bear the thought of not having the perfect barolo to go with your red meat, Dialogue probably isn’t for you. But if you’re happy with someone else picking your wine (and you don’t mind spending a good amount of money on it), the beverage pairing at Dialogue is only going to make your excellent 21-course dinner better. Expect some weird tricks, like vinegar being added to a white wine to make it a rosé - but it’s all part of one of LA’s unique wine drinking experiences." - jess basser sanders
"A lot of LA dinners involve sharing plates in a loud restaurant while yelling over a hip-hop soundtrack, but sometimes you just need something different. Something really special. That something is Dialogue. It’s hidden inside a food court on the Third Street Promenade (stay with us), in a tiny, fairly quiet room, and they do a 21-course tasting menu that changes with the seasons. Despite what that last part might make you think, the magic of Dialogue is that it isn’t the least bit stuffy. The food is super creative, but more importantly, all 21 courses taste incredible. This is a once-in-a-lifetime restaurant (you’ll end up spending around $700 on dinner for two), but Dialogue is one of the greatest special occasion dinners you can have in LA. Or anywhere." - jess basser sanders, brant cox
