Diamond Deli

Diamond Deli is our reward for a long week at work. Their pastrami is out of this world. I flipped out when I noticed they serve their sandwiches on Cellone's breads. Every sandwich, soup, wrap, and salad (inclduing the broccoli and pasta variety) is made by hand and worth waiting all week for. Not only is their food delicious and high quality, but there's no beating their service. We have built up a great personal relationship with Chad and Brett, the two managers and co-owners, and the rest of the team. They know our order when we stop in. Brett will clue us in on what special Mac n Cheese he's cooking up only on Fridays. Chad is always happy to see us when he rings us out at the register and makes a point to wish us a great weekend when we leave. It always feels like a party when we stop by. They have good reason to have people lined up down the block. I hope to be a patron here long enough to get a sandwich named after me 👍

An Akron classic! We got here before the line got long. The deli sandwiches are posted on the wall and they have a great selection of choices. The sandwiches are made right in front of you as you pass through the line. The deli guys are friendly and polite. The place is small but it has character. Akron sports, history, and events are represented on the walls. I ordered the "On The Road Again" which is tuna on toasted bread, coarse mustard, and red onion. Sandwiches are served with a dill pickles spear. My sandwich was tasty, flavorful, and any other adjectives you want to use to describe good. My wife had the "Old Bald Man", turkey , bacon, smoked gouda, onion and sun dried tomato on ciabatta bread. Also delicious. I am looking forward to my next visit.

My only complaint is that I ate it too fast because it was so good. The guys here are AMAZING at making sandwiches and incredibly friendly. Cant wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!!

Loved the customer service, staff members were friendly, the atmosphere was great. I liked the small diner feeling. The sports theme is nicely done, with an old school touch. The line wait down the street was interesting but the place is small. People seem to love this space. So, the food was 50/50…Looked good, smelled great but did they microwave my corn beef? Ugh, they put mayo and cheese on my hot corn beef sandwich. Not my thing and I have an allergy. I asked for plain with banana peppers. Anyway, kinda salty too…3 water bottles later! I’m going to give this place a second try soon. It’s a cool shop. Everyone loves this place, maybe it was over hyped. I’ll be back for round two.

Love the atmosphere & service! Staff is very friendly, food is GREAT! There may be a line out the door but they move fast so don’t worry. They’re very good at what they do & that’s making some fire sandwiches!!!!

This is a small deli with big flavor. This is a must visit when you are in the Akron area. Large sandwiches, delicious soup. You will not leave hungry, and it does not break the bank to eat here

By far one of my Favorite places to grab a Deli sandwich. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! The energy, customer service and amazing food is a deadly combination that keeps Diamond deli busy with a line out the door rain, shine, or snow so make sure you get there before lunch hour rush!

I am the type of person who loves a local owned sandwich shop rather than a big chain sandwich shop. So with that said my story on how I came to know about the Diamond Deli and how I made my way to finally eating at the Diamond Deli is a two part story. First the story starts about five months ago when my family moved to Ohio from Florida, my daughter was accepted to the University of Akron which was amazing on her part. So when we found out about my daughter's acceptance to the University of Akron my sister in-law told me about this tiny little sandwich shop known as as the Diamond Deli which she said it was nestled in the heart of the Akron University area and that they offered some of the best handcrafted sandwiches know to mankind. She told me that the place was so legit that most days the line is out the door and that they were only open for a short period of time usually until about 4 pm in the afternoon. So if you didn't get there in time to get yourself one of their signature sandwiches you were missing out. So now that brings me to the second part of my story. About a couple days ago I started up a Door Dash Driver account so I could earn some extra money for my family. I was with my wife and we were Door Dashing in the Akron Ohio area when my wife and I were finding ourselves to be mighty hungry when our next order from Door Dash popped up and it was from the Diamond Deli which means it was destiny that we were to finally try one of Diamond Deli's sandwiches. We came into the Deli from the back entrance and the first thing I noticed was the decor of the shop. The decor was straight fire, there was sports memorabilia all over the shop, which was mostly Akron Zip stuff just awesome. The second thing I noticed was the massive chalkboard that had the menu written on it and all the sandwiches had really imaginative names. I ordered Amy's Sound of Music which is a sandwich that has Smoked Turkey, Muenster Cheese, Honey Mustard on grilled Italian bread. The sandwich was so yummy in my tummy, it was well toasted and all the flavors blend perfectly together it was straight fire . My wife took the build your own sandwich path and had them craft her a mighty tasty ham sandwich. The customer service that was provided to us was amazing and all the employees were very nice. They all knew their stuff when it came to crafting scrumptious sandwiches. The coolest thing from my whole experience at the Diamond Deli was that I noticed a tattoo on one of the guys making our sandwiches and that tattoo was the logo of the shop itself which shows the dedication they have for their sandwich shop. So if your ever find yourself in the Akron Ohio area near the University of Akron I highly recommend you grab yourself a sandwich from the Diamond Deli.

Will always be my go to sandwich shop. Carrot cake is so good! Potato Salad is yummy! Soup is yummy! It's all yummy!

I'm embarrassed to say that my partner has worked a block from here for over 15 years and we never grabbed lunch at Diamond Deli. Lives up to the hype! Reuben was one of the best I've ever had. Rye bread was excellent and corned beef was perfect. Got a cup of Cheesy Potato Bacon Soup that was solid, too! Already wondering when is too soon to return...

A must go in Akron if short on time do not go on peek hours the line is out the door haha

Food=5 stars, Service= 5 stars. Sandwiches were amazing , broccoli salad was out of this world. We live in California and own a deli, so I know good sandwich's and this place has GREAT sandwiches. When we move back here this will be Our go to sandwich spot. Good job guys!

My second time here since moving back to hometown of Akron 1 year ago. Do you miss Lou + Hy's? Either way, go here, it's wonderful! The guys are super friendly + make great food. Today when I walked in there was what appeared to be a whole sports team filling the place? And somehow still they were super kind, remembered complicated orders, etc. And the food is BOMB! So far I've had a pastrami Rueben, some kind of special mac + cheese (holy mother), a "Chelsea's" (AMAZING!), and the carrot cake (get it!). Thanks for the hometown feels!

Love the Deli! They have the best matzo ball soup in town, and their sandwiches are amazing! Ps. Make sure you pay the parking meter because the meter cops are always on the lookout.

Took my dad there and the service was phenomenal and the corned beef sandwich was amazing (he ordered the Reuben and throughly enjoyed it). We live about 45 minutes away but were in Akron for something else, but my dad definitely wants to come back as a family. He hates to go anywhere further than a 20 minute radius from his home but has been bragging about this place. Prices were cheaper than expected. 4.9 rating and I understand why. Glad I don't live closer because I'd have to join a gym...

This place is awesome. Great food, great service and the carrot cake was phenomenal. I asked for another piece of carrot cake and the guy gave it to my gf. I went to pay and the owner, I think, said it's on the house and thanks for your service. It was Veterans Day and I was wearing my Air Force hat. We talked a little about his family serving in the Air Force too. A hidden gem in Akron that I will be frequenting.

This sandwich shop sits in downtown Akron. I need everyone in the surrounding areas to check this place out asap. They're open Monday-Friday. But now for the review. Upon walking in you smell the aroma of meats, and you see several guys working hard making fresh soup and slicing brisket, roast beef etc. they have cool names for each sandwich, but what's even better is the sandwiches are good than a mug. I tried the sandwich with corned beef and pastrami... OMG the toasted rye bread is able to hold this entire sandwich together, the sauce adds the right amount of sweetness, the melted Swiss cheese gives it the glue to hold everything in. I kid you not, every bite of this sandwich is amazing. 10/10 experience for me. Would definitely recommend

I've only ordered takeout but when I walk in, they greet me like friends. I'm partial to corned beef and my hubby loves pastrami and both were delicious. They lose a star for not having free parking.

I'm updating this review as a testament to Diamond Deli. The last review I made was written while I still lived in Akron. Since then I moved to California, then to Rhode Island, and now to Texas. During my drive from California to Rhode Island, I specifically mapped my drive through Akron for Diamond Deli. I wasn't going to make it before closing, and asked if they'd leave me a sandwich outside and I'd leave some money! They were kind enough to do that and I got to eat my favorite sandwich! That was 3 years ago. Today I'm driving from Rhode Island to Texas and once again, mapped my path just so I could have Diamond Deli on the way. This place is magnificent, the food is incredible, the restaurant is peaceful and the service is amazing. 100/10 I would recommend this place, unless you are moving away soon, in which case probably don't try it, because you will spend 7 years thinking about their sandwiches and make hundreds of miles just to get one.

Amazing I've heard about this place for years and finally stopped to grab lunch and was definitely shocked with the taste and quality of this sandwich. Don't think just wait in line and get a sandwich you'll thank me later

Fantastic- food was excellent and service fast and friendly - place is obviously a local favorite line was out the door for lunch at 2pm - was greeted like it was my 15th time there not my first - highly recommend and trying to plan trips that way just to get back for another sandwich

WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I've been wanting to buy Diamond Deli sandwiches for a while now, and today....it happened, it really happened. A couple of the guys and I decided to DoorDash today and WOW (signed up for DoorDash simply to order from this place)! We're so happy we did! I got the Stray Diamond, delicious corned beef, coleslaw was a great blend of sweetness to it and the sandwich is more than enough! Ordering through DoorDash mad it easy to customize the sandwiches, if anything, I'd ask for photos, but overall they do a great job describing each sandwich. Definitely will be ordering from this place again! Already planning my next order! Do yourself a favor, if you love a great friend experience, TRY THIS PLACE!!!

The guys that work in there are some of the nicest guys in Akron, you really can't ask for a better family experience then going to diamond deli. Not to mention the sandwiches are electric. I get the he ant heavy he's my brother mark

It's a 5 star for a Deli. The staff is so friendly, even though the line is out the door, they take time with customers to explain things and are friendly in communication. The staff seems to have great time working there, which is nice to see that kind of relationship between employees. The inside of the store is a Deli vibe and ambience is relaxed. The sandwiches are delicious! Thank you guys! Keep it up. Looking back to visiting the place when I'm back in Akron. P.S. The Bold guy sandwich was really good!

My favorite deli in Akron. They aren't open on weekends when I'm here so it was exciting to get here in a rare weekday to snag a few. The bread is perfect and buttery and the options are subtly different but loads of Reuben variants. Staff is cool. Can't ask for much more out of a sandwich!

I was in Akron for less than 24 hours for work and made Diamond Deli one of my few stops... and no regret! My only regret is not getting a jumbo instead of a regular for the amazing Rachel, which features pastrami and sauerkraut on grilled rye bread with Swiss cheese and 1000 island dressing. I'm usually decently healthy and a smaller portioned person (more of an all-day snacker than a three times a day kinda girl) and man, I devoured this sandwich like no other! The vibe is super chill, friendly, and cozy and folks are real nice. The guy in front of me shared how he's been eating here 2-3 times per week since he was a kid and had the most amazing-looking slice of carrot cake.

A line out the door tells the story. We were lucky enough to pre order online, and this saved a bunch of time. Sandwich variety is too notch and we will be back for sure! Everything was fresh and tasty. Old school deli, short on hours of operation, long on value and flavor!

Anyone who rates below 5 is hysterical. The sandwiches are amazing. You can get them cold, hot, and they have different breads and fresh crunchy toppings. They even have awesome extras like seasonal Mac n cheese, soups, and more. What makes this place so special is the staff. They are so funny and kind.

This restaurant is example of why life is worth living. The NY pastrami and Matzo ball soup... the best food arguably in my entire life. i have lived in nyc and miami... but Diamond Deli in Akron, OH is La Creme. Line is always out through the door but if you go around 11 AM you can get through quick

Ok!! My coworkers crazy about this place!! I would say the cake was delicious. Overrated if you ask me but it's a staple in Akron. Tbh these fools would eat dog food if you add m&m's

The sandwiches were amazing! Stuffed pack full of meat and amazing flavors. The staff was so friendly and remembered what we ordered and brought it to the table. The carrot cake was moist, the cream cheese icing wasn't too sweet. This place deserves 10 STARS!!!

Service is amazing! Their broccoli salad is my favorite thing ever, and I got 2 big to-go containers of it for ONLY 10 DOLLARS. That would normally cost 20$ a least in store. Great vibes!

I love this place. The salads & sandwiches are wonderful. My friend and I eat there regularly. We've recommended relatives & many others to try the delicious carrot cake, as well as certain sandwiches. Eric , Brett, and all of the other staff are friendly and they aim to please. You will NOT be disappointed once you give this deli a try. If you don't get to the deli early, you'll have to wait in a long line.

Excellant deli, the best,we have in the area. Rueban sandwich,can not be beat.Quantity and flavor can't be beat Service and wait time due to long lines at front door is the only negative , I would give this deli .What else can you say about a hot spot at lunch time in the downtown area.

Was visiting some friends in Akron and this place is right next to their apartment. This is the exact definition of a hole in the wall. I ordered the old bald guy sandwich and it was delicious!! Bread was soft, turkey was soft and tender, and the apple crisps compliment the whole sandwich very well. I read raving reviews about the place before I went and it certainly lived up to the hype. The line was out the door when I went for lunch (I recommend ordering online beforehand and picking up) so that should give you an idea of how great the food is!! Definitely worth stopping by!

Upon returning to this place, I found out they had just forgotten to give me a pickle, and they have other items not even listed on the menu. On Tuesday, they have smoked pulled pork for instance. The employees are very friendly, and they continue to be fair with their prices. I'm glad I found this place.

Ordered here through DoorDash today for the first time. I got the "Chris's Smile for the Camera" and a small potato salad. As far as the sandwich, it was very tasty except that it was like DRENCHED in the spicy mayo! It was literally just coming out all sides of the bread and since this was a delivery it made parts of the bread really soggy and hard to eat. Having said that, the sandwich was very good and the ingredients tasted fresh. Came with a couple of dill pickle spears and that's always a plus! The potato salad was delicious. It wasn't really sweet like some places, tasted homemade with just the right amount of mustard and mayo. I will definitely order again but I'll be sure to specify LIGHT mayo on my sandwich :)

This place is truly a gem. The kind of place you could eat at every day and it would never get old. I have never seen so many take out orders fly out a door at lunch time. We split the "I made the Dean's list"- pastrami, turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, 1000 island. It was superb. The potato salad is some of the best I've ever had. The service is stellar, treated us like regulars. The atmosphere is downtown deli all the way. They get a plus star because they were playing The Allman Brothers.

A "diamond" of a deli. Can't go wrong if you're looking for deli sandwich. The busy-ness of the deli is a testament to its popularity. There is room to eat inside, but it fills up fast when lunch time rolls around.

I would almost consider moving to Akron to eat at Diamond Deli all the time. While visiting my sister we ate here multiple times. We would share the veggie melt and the grilled cheese. I like the atmosphere. The people were friendly. I think about the pasta and potato salad they sometimes have way more than I should. If you are in Akron and do not eat here you are making a terrible mistake. I consider this place magical.

A gem of a lunch spot in downtown Akron! The sandwiches are always made fresh and so delicious. Try to arrive before noon or the line will probably be out the door. My go to classic is the Rachel which is piled high with tons of pastrami on the most buttery and delicious bread. Another favorite is the old bald guy (I get it with no apples) which is on the fluffiest ciabatta with amazing sun dried tomato mayo. My friends also love the Chelsea which is an interesting combination of chicken salad and avocado that is super creamy and delicious.

Just moved to town and a friend sent me here. Exactly what I've been looking for in a deli. Fresh cut meats, lots of cheeses to choose from, delicious breads, home made sauces, panini presses, and even good looking men creating these masterpieces! I know I got a boring sandwich (compared to the many options). But, let me tell you...they perfected this run of the mill sandwich. The brioche bread set this one apart!!! The amount of onions in comparison to tomato and spicy Mayo was spot on. I already have the next 3 sandwich's picked out for my following visits. Here's looking at you 'Chuck's Working Hard, Lynda Isn't!' See you next Tuesday. Be prepared for a bit of a wait as the line is long...but, isn't that a good sign?! No words, Best Sandwich's in Akron If I could give this 6 stars I would.. Don't go when is busy, the wait could be 30+ minutes. The workers remind me of chik-fi-la employees because how nice they are.

Love this place. Great sandwiches and the best matzo ball soup I've ever had...it's the reason I go. I live in Minneapolis and travel to Akron for work a couple times a year and it's a must stop for me. A must!

Ok I've been here a few times now and this place is everything most locals claim it to be. Being its only a few blocks from my downtown Akron office this place usually comes to mind when my belly starts rumbling around lunch time and it's usually an easy sell with most of my business associates, I've yet to have to twist anyone's arm when I throw out Diamond Deli as a lunch option. I really haven't landed on a favorite sandwich yet although I'm thinking it will involve corn beef or pastrami and of course a thick slice of Middlefield, Ohio Swiss Cheese and a slathering of spicy mustard on rye. I've yet to beat the crowds here during the lunch hours but the staff keeps the line moving and somehow there's always a seat even though it never looks like there will be while standing in line. There are a lot of incredible delicatessens in NE Ohio and each brings something unique and delicious to the table and this one is no different, it been operating since 1997 but if you didn't know this you could assume they've been here for a half a century or more. The staff is always friendly and efficient so I suggest you start making your decision before you cross the threshold...

The best sandwich shop in Akron. The guys who work there are so nice too. So many unique options. I don't think I could have a bad experience here.

Food and service were very good. We got there before the lunch rush. It gets very busy but is worth the wait! I purchased the Chris's Smile For the Camera (Ham, provolone, spicy Mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion on toasted brioche bread). It was delicious and big enough for 2 meals. The guys were very personable and the service was great!

Chad sold a Chad's to Chad!! Chad's "Wait till you Hear this Story!" Sandwich was great, loved the Motzaball soup and the cookie. Only reason for 4 was the Pastrami was fairly tough/fatty at times and my wife thought they could use better turkey in her Reuben. She loves her Duma Meat Turkey Deli and knows good deli meat... But Chad at the counter selling a Chads sandwich to Chad was funny, plus everyone else ordering their Chad sandwiches, made it a Chaderrific experience! Will definitely come back and try something else, we enjoyed it!

Some of the best sandwiches you can get in downtown Akron for lunch. The Cuban is phenomenal, and I really love the turkey Reuben.
