Diamond Hill

Diamond Hill Letterfrack is a spectacular climb. It's like a stairway to the skies. Diamond Hill facilities are maintained by the Irish National Parks and Wildlife Service, and they do a fantastic job throughout the year. Located approx 4 miles (6km) from Kylemore Abbey, or approx 9 miles (15km) from Clifden both a leisurely drive on the N59, it's impossible to miss - it's in the shape of a Diamond top or peak. While it's 440 meters (1,450 feet) high you'll realise on reaching the summit it's much more than a Hill. The complete (start to top back to start) climb is very relaxing taking about 2hrs 30 minutes. Recommended to take small breaks to enjoy the views. It's a circuit where the views are different as you climb - to the views on your way down. The circuit has two trails- Lower Trail (circa 75 minutes climb) and the Upper Trail (circa 2.5 hrs climb). You can also stroll around the ground level to chill out and enjoy the facilities and views in the distance. If you reach the summit you'll be rewarded with spectacular Connemara Panoramic Views, including the Twelve Bens Mountains. Best word to describe the Diamond Hill Summit is Breathtaking. Note: Parking and Entrance are Free. Clean Bathroom Facilities, Tea Rooms and Exhibițions, Outside Picnic Areas and a Children's play area. Best to avoid climb in wild windy conditions. This is a bucket list notch of one of Ireland's precious jewels.

Diamond Hill (Binn Ghuaire) is a 442m quartzite jewel in Connemara National Park, offering trails for all levels. The Lower Loop (3km) is family-friendly with bog boardwalks, while the Upper Loop (7km) rewards hikers with 360 degree panoramas of the Twelve Bens, Kylemore Abbey, and the Atlantic coast. The name comes from glittering quartz crystals (no real diamonds, but just as dazzling!) Trails were rebuilt in 2005 with €1.4M of helicopter-dropped stones to prevent erosion. While hiking up you might spot Connemara Ponies and Peregrine Falcons along the heather-clad slopes. Tips: Arrive early to avoid crowds, and pack layers, summit winds are fierce year-round! They're no joke, hold onto that camera and phone tightly, mine almost flew away as i could barely hold my camera straight. To summarise, this is one of the most beautiful places i've ever been to, i would highly recommend this place atleast once.

It's a excellent place for family picnic & trekking! What I liked & impressed me is the kind of excellent infrastructure , that has been created. This place has excellent café, huge parking space, superbly designed trails for trekking!

We really enjoyed this hike. The paths are well maintained and the views and sceneries around conamara are amazing. The weather was not great but we had the right gear and hiking boots are essential. Also as you go up. It gets steep and we had a stiff 50 mph wind as we peaked the top... Loop walk. So you come down a different way to going up... All good really enjoyed this 1.

This is a hike which looks easy, however, it can be really exhausting. You go up like many stone stairs because the path is very well maintained to preserve the precious soil which would erode pretty fast. It is a great experience. The view is stunning at the top. What I also like is that people are advised to go up one way that you don't have to pass each other all the time.

Moderate hike with amazing views, definitely recommending. Easy slow pace up and down in a loop, around 2h to do. Parking a few km away, so easy wall towards the mountain.

Lucky enough to visit Diamond Hill on a beautiful sunny day, views from the hilltop are stunning. Nice visitors centre, provides carparking, cafe and toilets. Picnic benches for people with their own lunches and a little playground for children.

Fantastic trail up over Diamond Hill not too strenuous, the views are amazing well worth the treck.... We did about 7km from start to finish with about 1200ft elevation... Definitely worth a visit if in Connemara the trail has 3 different routes all varying difficulties but on a whole all easily doable
