"Chicken 4 Ways" with Diane was an excellent experience for me and my wife, from start to finish! We had a blast chatting and joking around with Diane while we cooked up delicious dishes, and we learned a lot about how to choose high-quality, responsible ingredients. Diane is a joy to be around — highly recommend taking any of her awesome classes!

Diane’s cooking class is an absolute gem! She thoughtfully sources local, organic ingredients, ensuring that every dish is fresh, flavorful, and full of life. Beyond just cooking, she creates a warm and engaging experience, sharing her deep knowledge of food and her passion for supporting small local businesses. Every bite reflected her commitment to quality and sustainability. If you’re looking for a hands-on, delicious, and inspiring culinary experience, this class is a must!

Had an AMAZING evening with Diane and friends at her, "Chicken Four Ways" class. I've always been intimidated by the idea of breaking down a whole chicken but not anymore -- Diane demystified the process and made sure we had enough hands-on practice to leave confident in our new kitchen skill! The dishes were delicious but also practical, the kind of thing you could actually pull off after a busy work day. And Diane herself was such a treat -- she's a down-to-earth teacher, a witty conversationalist, a food producer advocate -- just go knowing that simply meeting her is worth the price of admission!! PS: I absolutely despised apple desserts my whole life. Then Diane fed us her apple crisp and I loved it. That's how transformative this experience was 💥

Google
This was the most fun and engaging way to spend 3 hours cooking. Diane’s authenticity and love of cooking combined with her patience make her an amazing teacher. We took apart chicken and learned how best to cook each part of it. Combined with the locally sourced vegetables, we made delicious meals that I’m excited to make again. It’s a very hands on experience that you can’t get anywhere else. You will leave full of food and with a better understanding of what makes cooking fun.

We will absolutely be returning to Diane's for another cooking class! The menu was so unique and all the ingredients were local to the PNW. After making hors devours, we learned how to make Northern style Italian lasagna bolognese with homemade pasta. Throughout the evening, Diane shared fascinating stories while her assistant helped serve local wines. It was a very memorable evening and learned so much.

Google
Fully educational and organic! We are learning a way of lifestyle as well as cooking! This is the place to go! Best broccoli in Seattle is in Diane’s kitchen.

My husband and I had the MOST AMAZING experience at Diane's Market Kitchen on Valentines Day. Diane has such a warm and inviting presence, and is also a wealth of knowledge with regards to food and food production. As residents of Seattle, she really gave us an education about the abundant produce and protein that are available in the PNW. I wish more people knew about her classes because she presents an experience that is 'so Seattle', and she makes food both interesting and approachable. I cannot wait to take another class with Diane, I highly recommend her business - experiences like these are few and far between these days, and I am so happy that she exists!

My bachelorette celebration was at Diane’s Market Kitchen, and I couldn’t have asked for a more fun experience! Diane was so friendly and communicative, flexible with our group size, and so skilled as a teacher - the two hour class flew by and the food was delicious! We especially appreciated how she took time to highlight local farmers/vendors and point out the benefits of using such fresh, local ingredients. I hope to visit here again in the future!

Yelp
Just got back from a cooking class with Diane, it was great! She is very knowledgeable about everything related to cooking, sourcing ingredients, maintaining cookware, etc. She guided us through some great dishes (including probably the best soup I've had) and helped us understand the process and the stories behind the different ingredients. She's got a lot of passion for her work and it comes through Pro-tip: it is apparently not good cooking technique to throw a glob of cumin into the middle of a dish, even if you do say "bam!" Don't make my mistake

Jane M.

Yelp
I've never written a review for anything before, but had such a bad time, feel like I need to share. So here's your warning: if you go with a group of friends or family prepare to not be able to talk to each other. All she did was yap the whole time (some of it informative but most of it was her just talking about her life). When I tried to have a quiet side conversation with my friend she shushed me! I paid a lot of money for a private class for my friend's birthday thinking it would be a fun light-hearted experience, but I felt like I was in a college lecture instead. Not only did I find the whole experience to be unpleasant, but I also left very hungry! We didn't get to eat all the food that we made AND PAID FOR because she put it away. The food was good but nothing about that experience was worth the money

Marie N.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to learn to cook or expand on your skills. Diane knows how to do it, teach it and talk it. Great way to spend time with family or friend by taking a class together. It is a roll up the sleeves, hands on evening. Enjoy your meal when you are done and you will not be disappointed. Small class size and they go quick, sign up now.

Yelp
I had a chance to check out Diane's artisan food class with 5 app and 1 dessert (all vegetarian!) and found Diane to be super entertaining. I don't think of Diane so much of a chef but much of a friend who doesn't intimidate you with fancy chopping and cooking skills...but rather more like someone who you can feel free to enjoy talking about food and its origin, helping prepare a healthy meal right in the kitchen. What I like most about Diane's style is that her food contains at most 4-5 ingredients. I also appreciate that Diane tried her based to source her ingredients from local producers...(e.g. vote and put your money where you support!). They are simple, health focused, practical and easy to prepare, especially for someone like me who doesn't have as in depth kitchen skills. She didn't intimidate me at all with all the stuff I didnt know what to do or how to use around the kitchen. Overall, I highly recommend Diane's class. I wouldn't say its full blown madness of cooking involved, but rather more light coming and entertaibment of the party you are taking your class with! If I had another chance, I would definitely love to take Diane's class again for sure! P.S. I also appreciated she followed up and sent us information about the local vendors that we can get the ingredients we used in the class and the recipe of the dishes we made that day.

Yelp
This is a pretty and picturesque venue, really close to Pike Place Market, so fun shopping before and after class. Diane is effervescent and personable, making each guest feel welcome. The classroom is bright and cheerful and just a great space in which to be. She was generous with her beverage pours and the shrubs were delicious. Our difficulty with the class is mainly that our group of ten wanted a private class that involved us cooking something together and not merely watching the instructor assemble things she had premade before class, or demo a few techniques. I had asked before setting this up, and was reassured that there would be some hands-on for those who wanted to get their hands dirty. Sadly, this was not the case & I heard from disappointed friends afterward who wondered why I'd even brought aprons. After they'd paid $100 each, I felt embarrassed, as the organIzer. Diane did ask if there were food allergies, which was great, but then served apple chips when one member had an apple allergy. Several items demoed were gluten-free, though none of us are. Overall we had a lovely time, but will likely visit Hot Stove or the Pantry next time to really be involved.

Yelp
Diane's Market Kitchen is OPEN! We spent an evening (my workers and I) with Diane - first a tour of the Pikes Place Market and then an INCREDIBLE evening of awesome food. Learned so much! Diane is incredibly engaging and fun - you can't ask for a better host. I would recommend this experience to everyone. Enjoy!

Yelp
Great food, great experience and walked away learning more about food than I expected! This is not a full hands on cooking class (which is perfect for me!). We did taste along the way and got some hands on with supervision! We came for a team building event and had so much fun. Diane is knowledgeable, assertive (in the right way) and knows how to capture your attention. She shared some great techniques and we made a meal that I never would have been able to (or thought of) on my own. Really great night! Highly recommend!

Yelp
If I could give this more stars, I would. I took my first class last night and I am hooked! Diane is extremely warm and inviting in her classy, well-equipped kitchen. I took the seafood class and we made seared scallops, gulf shrimp, a turnip and beet salad, pan-seared salmon with kale chips, and a rustic apple pear crumble. OMG I ate so well last night. Dianne is very knowledgeable and will make you comfortable and unafraid of new things. She let us taste and smell every ingredient before we used it and taught us a lot about how to appreciate and support local farmers and fishermen who are getting great food to us sustainably. I really loved her perspective on our relationship with food. The entire 2 hours class (6-9pm) was filled with wine, laughs, and lots of patience as she answered our many questions. I am so happy I took a class here and I know that I will be taking many more. Fan for life! Take a class here if you're a beginner, a foodie, or even if you already know your way around the kitchen. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Seems like others may have received a better experience than we did. Diane was a pleasure - kind, attentive, and charming. She taught us a lot and was warm in her approach. Sadly, we received a demonstration only. It was not a cooking class. She walked us through steps, let us taste ingredients etc, and then presented the final version for us to eat each time. We didn't get our hands dirty at all which is what we looked forward to. Perhaps this was intended but if so, the website description should have been clearer.

Yelp
Wow, this review is long over due. When I had suggested cooking class to my girl friend she was a bit apprehensive. However, that apprehension dissipates the moment you step into Diane's kitchen. Diane is incredibly charming and very welcoming. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We did the salmon lunch and learn. Diane did all the cooking but her teaching style was very detailed and she had tons of great tips making it perfect for both of us. For $45 bucks a person, it's better than just going out to a nice lunch. What drew me to course was Laura's C comment about Diane being a "good cook and a great teacher" That was definitely the case. Diane went over kitchen layout, knife skills, equipment choices, ingredient choices including both sustainability and flavor. She let us taste every ingredient prior to going into the dish so it really helped to us think about and enjoy each dish. Diane's very knowledgeable about ingredients and is familiar with the various vendors at local markets. Would love try her Farm to Table class. Diane also had a selection of seasonal wine for purchase to accompany the meal. She also has a stock of great oils and vinegars in the corner of her class. Someone dropped by to pick up some during our class. She does gift certificates as well (One of the couples attending had received gift certificates from another couple that had come) The "class room" is a custom designed kitchen that seats about 10 so it's nice an intimate. Would love to visit again at some point.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about Diane and her classes. I've been to a few of her classes. Most recently I put together a holiday cooking class for my family. We all had a great time and we learned so much. I have gone to many cooking classes in the Seattle area and Diane's classes simply are the best. You get a lot of individual attention, eat great food, and learn recipes and techniques you can use for years to come.

Yelp
Diane's Kitchen is an incredible experience! She is super knowledgeable about each ingredient she uses and everything is remarkably fresh and most impressive of all, local. You'll learn more here in a few hours than most people find out in a lifetime. Great place!

Yelp
This experience was so much fun and a fresh reminder of how important it is to work with local farmers to purchase our food! We made handmade a fresh salad, lasagna bolognese, and had a delicious olive oil cake. The entire class helped pitch in. I went with a group of 15 coworkers and we really enjoyed our time with Diane. Would love to go back and do another class, and have her cooking again!

Yelp
Took a six-week class (or was it eight..?) with Diane and absolutely LURRRVED it! Before the class, the only thing I could do in the kitchen is dance. Post-class, I totally cook stuff! For myself and others! And they eat it and say things like "mmmMmmmmmMMM" and they LIVE! She has awesome energy, and just puts everyone to work right away. The environment is very disarming. I wasn't ashamed to know absolutely nada about cooking. Plus sometimes people bring wine, which rocks. Sometimes they just show up tipsy. But then I realized that it's much better to handle knives sober.

Yelp
Best Cooking Class Ever! My wife and I were pretty incompetent in the kitchen before taking Diane's 3-session class, "The Basics of Vegetarian Cooking." Diane met us right where we were, she grasped how dire our circumstances were and helped us with the very basics, answering the simplest of questions and instead of teaching us elaborate and long recipes, taught us things that we could feel confident about and actually able to do at home. It's only been a few weeks since we graduated from her class but I feel way more comfortable in the kitchen than I did before. We also loved how thoughtful she was about the whole food system. It wasn't just about taste for her (that was #1, but not the only issue). She also cared about where the food came from and knew every farmer she bought from. She helped me see that food is more than fuel and I think it will really benefit our relationship. The class was totally hands on (which is how I learn), and she keeps it small and very personal (also important for me). The kitchen space is beautiful too-- it just makes you want to be there. Her warm and funny personality keeps the energy levels up and you get to eat delicious food during it too! A lot of other cooking classes I read about (and the one other one my wife went to in Seattle) are reputed to be all about selling the student a bunch of kitchen stuff, but Diane was trying to tell us ways to avoid breaking the bank and still having awesome and nutritious meals. It is worth every penny and more. I can't say enough how great Diane and her classes are!

Yelp
Cooking class? really? mmm....I dont know. At least thats what my first reaction was. A cooking class sounded like one of my mom's schemes to get me to be more domestic and womanly, but as it turns out the pie baking class was one of my best spent afternoons of all time! Kate was AMAZING. She has a quirky and genuine personality and is a delight to learn from. I always felt comfortable asking questions and having her check on the progress of my pie. The atmosphere was wonderfully intimate as the largest class Kate accepts is how many pies will fit in the oven, so it maxes out at 6. The end result was mouth wateringly delicious. A more than perfect crust and all the skills to do it again on my own, plus a few tools to take home with me to do so. After leaving with my fresh baked pie I got to share it with a few of my friends who would also give the class 5 stars! I could write for eons about how great the experience was, but now I need to go roll out a pie crust . mmm!

Yelp
My mother and I spent Thanksgiving week in Seattle and took Diane's pasta class. It was absolutely the highlight of our stay. Diane was extremely knowledgeable about the different kinds of flour that are used to make pasta, and the class started with tasting flour and oil. She also talked about how treatment of hens affects the eggs they produce. The class provided a crash course in food chemistry. It was also very fun to make pasta from scratch using a Kitchenaid extension. Diane has an extremely welcoming upbeat personality. She created a warm, positive, relaxed vibe. The class came together as a team. A highlight of the class was the care she took describing the different food vendors in Seattle. I left the class inspired to learn more about pasta. My mom and I will definitely take more classes from her the next time we visit Seattle.

Yelp
Taking a cooking class with Diane is an amazing experience. The day I went the lessons included quiche and savory pies. I learned how to make a simple and healthy quiche that is worth boasting about! The savory pie lesson included how to make a simple crust and included meat and meatless varieties. Diane is a great teacher - patient and encouraging. Her lessons include tons of tips on cooking technique, as well as where to find great ingredients in the Seattle area. The class was filled with laughter, stories and wonderful eating! I'll be back. I also think a private event (for a Birthday or company event) would be a blast.

Yelp
Learning about cooking while drinking and eating in a laid back environment = BEST GROUP ACTIVITY EVER! I booked a private "Lunch and Learn" event with Diane and 7 of my friends. We had the best time! It was much more entertaining and educational than a wine tasting which was our initial choice for a group activity. Diane bills herself as a good cook and a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and is able to pass that knowledge on in a laid back, non intimidating setting. No question was too ridiculous and everything was relevant. She cooks with sustainable local ingredients. Check out her calendar and join an existing event or create your own. She's very accommodating and prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Inspiring. Simply inspiring. I found out about Diane's Market Kitchen through Groupon. I got a killer deal to take one of her Lunch and Learn classes. I'm a big fan of cooking shows like Top Chef and Kitchen Nightmares UK. Although I LOVE these shows, I am not much of a cook myself. Enter Diane who I think can teach anyone how to cook. She is a self-taught chef and because of this she is easy to approach. The class is the farthest thing from intimidating. Her food is simple but packs killer flavor. All of the things she made had about 5-6 ingredients tops. I left the class thinking "hey, I can totally make that!". She shared tips with us about knife skills, cookware and how to select the best salmon. I also loved the fact that she sources all the ingredients locally and gets them from sustainable sources. She knows the farmers who grew the shallots or the kale. How cool is that? I learned so much from Diane in my two hours with her that I look forward to taking another class from her in the future!

Yelp
I decided that I wanted to take a cooking class while I was visiting Seattle this Summer. My wife did some research and suggested I give Diane's Market Kitchen a shot...I figured what the heck, I'd sign up for a Lunch and Learn: Soups and Salads. I am a decent cook, I am a self proclaimed Foodie and I am at ease in the Kitchen. This was such an incredible experience. My initial class was very small (two participants) and it was very hands on. The knowledge base of myself and the other participant was very different but Diane kept us both engaged and active throughout the entire 2 hour class. Diane's passion and knowledge and simple love of the food and WHERE it comes from is obvious. The techniques she shares are helpful and her approach to the ingredients is inspiring. I signed up for the Seafood and Pastas class and WISH I would be able to take her more intensive classes...maybe some other trip!!!!!

Yelp
I've taken many cooking classes, including a few in Seattle, and Diane's was by far the best one. The combination of the market tour and cooking class made it special. Diane inspired me to spend more time at farmers markets and to use fresh ingredients (including spices). I learned a couple of new tricks in the kitchen. And I really enjoyed learning how to prepare a new meal and side dishes--all that were relatively simple, but delicious. I'm excited to make them again. Diane is a wonderful chef and instructor. She's fun and genuinely nice. She's created a warm and welcoming space. I'm looking forward to future classes and sharing this experience with friends and out of town guests who are foodies!

Yelp
Diane is doing take out and it's amazing, better then most restaurant food I had prior to COVID.For 80 bucks you get a four course meal for two and it's well worth the price. Single servings available, Easy to heat and serve.

Yelp
"It's just food!" Well, it's just amazing, perfectly sourced, delicious food at Diane's Market Kitchen. Owner/chef Diane LaVonne uses that phrase as a motivator for her students to enjoy cooking, experiment, and taste. We did all of those things at a Valentine's Day cooking class called "Steak and Chocolate." The small kitchen provides a warm atmosphere for the cooking class and there is ample opportunity to roll up your sleeves and get involved. Our items didn't require a very high level of skill, but we picked up great tips along the way such as how to chop nuts easily, how to clean shrimp, etc. Diane is meticulous about her sourcing and talked a lot about the local vendors she works with throughout the entire evening. She recommended markets and purveyors near everyone's home, and she offers a few key ingredients to buy and take home for those who aren't local to her kitchen. I would highly recommend this for a couple, group of friends, or business event. We'll be sure to try one of her other classes very soon!

Yelp
What a pleasant experience! I don't remember how I found the site, but I decided to attend the Lunch and Learn class with my bestfriend. Its location was easy to find and convenient to get to. I was impressed by the decorations and the lighting of the kitchen. Very clean and well-organized. A cup of coffee or tea was offered by Diane as we were about to begin the class. We started with an introduction by Diane and went on to making of the Taste of Washington salad. I loooove citrus-y/vinegar-y dressings and her recipe for salad was just AWESOME. The ingredients can be pricey for a student to purchase, but some day.. some day.. ;) Diane showed us how to make fettucine from the scratch. It was coool. It was combined with FRESH seafood with some wine/butter and MMmMM! so delicious! I was always used to eating fettucine soaked in sauces so this was different and just wonderful. Apple Pie as a dessert completed my experience at Diane's Market Kitchen. Diane's energetic, smart, friendly and knows what she's doing. She uses locally grown/made products which I really appreciate. Being next to Pike Place Market would probably be her advantage, too. I'm going back to her kitchen next time i'm in town. FOR SURE. =)

Yelp
LOVED it - loved the food, the fresh perspective, and Diane. The experience was a learning adventure! I found this place through groupon and had no idea what I was getting into. I just thought, 'hey, sometime I should try a cooking class' and asked a friend to come make a lunch of it. I was immediately greeted by this lively, warm woman (Diane) who brought my friend and me into her funky kitchen/studio space located right near the water. During the course of the time, we discussed and tasted wine from local vitners, tasted every ingredient of our 'seafood pasta' class and learned tons about all sorts of things. I can see each class with her will be unique. We actually MADE pasta (as in, not boiling - MAKING) and mussels and a yummy fresh salad. We got to taste and feel things all the way through the process. And she surprised us at the end with the best ever apple crisp. Afterward, she emailed us the recipes - all of which really were SIMPLE in and of themselves. I actually feel like I could cook these things again! I am thinking of getting a group of coworkers together to do a luncheon there together - the cost, all included, was like $50!! WAY better than going out to a meal where you don't know a thing about the ingredients. DO IT!

Matt N.

Yelp
Awesome for private event. Had a team event here and had an amazing experience. Not a place where I had to cook everything but rather we learned about what was happening and help cook a bit. Smelled and tasted all the ingredients and left with a full belly of AMAZING food. A must do.

Yelp
My husband and I took the Seafood class and it exceeded expectations! We learned how to make crabcakes, a personal favorite. We also made prawns and sole - both fantastic. I think I could easily recreate these dishes in my kitchen, which is really great because I'm not actually a very good cook. We really enjoyed that Diane knows the farmers she buys from and focuses on fresh and sustainable foods. We highly recommend Diane's Market Kitchen! Have fun!

Yelp
Connecting Cooking Companionship. Diane lives her mission. The experiences she provides are once in a liftetime--unless you come back for more! I took Diane's market tour and cooking class with a group of friends. As a third generation Seattle native, I grew up in the market. I also work a couple blocks away. Diane showed us Pike Place market--the insider's view. The tour appeals to natives and tourists alike. Now for the cooking class. Great fun! Great food! Great entertainment! My friends and family appreciate my new cooking and entertaining class. She's a professional but doesn't intimidate novices like me. Consider spending the evening with friends at Diane's Market Kitchen.

Yelp
A FUN experience FAVORITE DINER REVIEW * JUN 29, 2013 Fresh-made pasta with zucchini sauce - We went to the pasta lunch class last week and came away with much more than we expected. Diane explains all of the raw ingredients in every dish, and has you taste each one before it becomes a part of the wonderful dishes she prepares right before your eyes. We each had a chance to prepare part of the pasta as it was extruded through the pasta cutter. She thoroughly explains the fresh, farm-market suppliers and has a relationship with each and every one of them. She has done everything to make this a special experience for all of her diners- then emails the recipes to you afterwards.

Yelp
My husband, sister, sister-in-law, and I had the most delightful lunch and hands-on class at Diane's during a weekend family reunion in Seattle this past August. She sources her food from local farmer's markets because she supports small local providers and gets the most delicious and sustainable produce and other food products available. She is a knowledgeable chef and a delight as a host. I did not know we were going to get hands-on experience making our own pasta, and that was an extra plus! (I had told the family, oh no, we won't be doing any work!) We enjoyed house-made pasta with tomato sauce, cabbage salad, and cobbler for dessert. My family has been having these reunions in various cities for years, and this cooking class is one of the best experiences we have been able to share!

Yelp
I should preface this review by saying two things: 1. After attending the class, I realize that I qualify as an 'experienced' cook 2. It's great that so many people on Yelp have enjoyed Diane's class but it's important that I add a reality check to the reviews for those who are expecting to learn technique and get value for their money My friend and I choose the 'Chicken 4 Ways' class expecting to learn how to break down a whole chicken and use all its parts. The following pros and cons of our experience will give you a sense for how the lesson turned out: Pros: 1. Diane's confidence, small class size, well appointed kitchen and excellent location put us at ease 2. She was sweet to prepare an appetizer and dessert (a delicious peach crumble!) and share wine with the meal we prepared 3. She taught us several nifty tips and tricks (rubbing your hands on stainless steel to remove the smell of garlic, for example) which reflected her years of experience 4. She patiently answered all our questions, many of them were from me (about knives, pots and pans, reality cooking shows) Cons: 1. We were about 2 people to a chicken, which meant that we only got to do half the cutting (I learn by doing so I am not sure I will remember how to cut the parts I didn't get to cut). We were all on the same side of the table as Diane so often, when others crowded around her, it was hard to see what she was doing (I'm 5'5"). There is also only one stove top which means that everyone crowds around the stove when the food is cooking 2. I was under the impression that we would learn how to use all the parts but Dianne put away more than 50% of the chicken to use in stock and for other purposes later. We only used the chicken tenders and the wings and thighs 3. Diane unilaterally decided to make the Chicken 4 Ways class a Chicken 3 Ways class as she was running out of time. This is probably my biggest grievance as the onus of managing time effectively is on the instructor, particularly if she boasts of 8 years of experience teaching. At $85 a class, I don't think its fair to make a impromptu decision without checking with the students in the class. I was particularly annoyed that she told us she'd send us the recipe as if it was adequate compensation for not giving us what we paid for - a cooking lesson 4. For EVERY SINGLE ingredient used, Diane shared the source - some farm, some market, some eccentric guy in Italy who makes amazing salt! Frankly, it was excessive. As a marketing professional, I am not opposed to product placements but I would have much preferred if she had sent us an email with a list of ingredients and where she got them. It would much better serve her purpose to promote the sales of her partners as well. And saying 'taste that! Isn't that great?' for everything made her lose some of her credibility for me (I'm surprised that only one other person on Yelp feels the same way) 5. Her Thai red curry recipe was a complete scam! Using ready made paste if you're doing it in the privacy of your home is one thing but in a 5 star rated cooking class is another?! Mixing paste with coconut milk, a few vegetables and some chicken tenders is not worthy of being taught in a moderately expensive cooking class in Seattle, even if you're teaching beginners! 6. As we were leaving, Diane began spooning the leftovers into small bowls saying that this was her lunch for the next day. Since she had neither cooked the 4th dish (the chicken pot pie - the only recipe that required some technique) and she had stashed away the bulk of the chickens we cut, it was a reminder that our cooking class fee didn't go very far Overall justification for the rating: I feel a bit bad about giving 2 stars because I liked Diane but 'I have experienced better' (which is the sentiment attached to the Yelp 2 star rating) and as a rational consumer, I believe should provide an objective view of what value you can expect for your money. I would call it less a cooking class and more an 'informal, play it by ear, quasi cooking and food experience'. If it's technique and skill you're looking to learn, this is the wrong place. Bottom line, should you go for Diane's Chicken 4 Ways class? Yes, only if you know very little about cooking (like many of the people on Yelp who have given the class a 5 star rating), have trouble following written recipes or videos yourself and can take an omission of a whole dish in a planned cooking class in your stride.

Yelp
I did not have a good experience with Diane. My son had a little fever before I was going to Seattle, so I had to change my ferry schedule. I emailed her to say if it is better to change the date since I was going to be late to the class. She said it is ok because there are no other students but me. However, after she started to the class, she kept complaining and made me uncomfortable. I wish she could have cancelled the class or rescheduled the class if she was uncomfortable to do that class. Also, the class was basically for the beginners. She told me that she has never been to the cooking school and just has been cooking for her kids. I would not go back.

Yelp
Diane was nice and friendly, and made really good food, but my husband loves to cook and was hoping he'd get to cook and try and learn more. We didn't get to do anything besides try and take one or two bones out of our salmon. My husband and I were saddened by how little we got to do for our $100. Then after she offered drinks, and everyone had their drinks she suddenly informed us how much extra it cost at the end. I'd suggest starting out saying drinks costs extra, especially when we paid a lot of money already to not even cook. I was very unimpressed with this place even though it's a "cooking school." It is NOT a cooking class honestly. It's someone cooking FOR people who might not know a whole lot about cooking. But it's not teaching about techniques.

Yelp
I was gifted a trip to Diane's Market Kitchen for the Lunch and Learn - Simply Salmon. The class size was small (4 people in attendance), and that played well with Diane's casual spirit. I would consider myself an experienced cook, but I still learned several tips and tricks from Diane. A large focus during the two-hour class was learning more about local farmers and the ingredients used in the dishes she created. That is where Diane's passion comes out the most, and it was a highlight for the learning element of the class. If you are looking for a full hands-on experience in the kitchen, this may not be the class for you. However, if you're looking for an educational, fun way to enjoy your lunch and learn about the ingredients, I think you will find Diane's Market Kitchen is well worth the cost to attend.

Yelp
Wonderful class at Diane's Kitchen...we cooked (and ate) ahi tuna, haricot vert, and sautéed fennel and onion. We also made a green salad with white balsamic dressing We ended with a delicious peach and blueberry crumble. Diane is a patient teacher with a great sense of humor. I look forward to taking other classes.

Yelp
My husband and I took the Pasta 101 class. Diane provided special ingredients for our meal as we are vegetarian. We were really happy with the pasta-making skills we gained, and the MANY cooking tips and great product recommendations we got. We made and ate a delicious meal in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Yelp
I came to Seattle for a long weekend and took a cooking class at Diane's market Kitchen today. I left feeling so inspired. She has a love of clean food and a level of knowledge about fantastic ingredients that is priceless. I left the class, went to Pike's market, bought some fabulous ingredients and can not wait to go home and try it out. Well worth it!

Yelp
Our work team went to Diane's Market Kitchen on 11/30/2012. There were 14 of us representing a range of ages, cooking skills/interest, and preferred diet. We chose an "Appetizers" class and I had an initial concern that we might leave hungry. Not an issue! The food was local, fresh, delicious and simply prepared. Diane is very knowledgeabe and not a food snob. The recipies are easy to replicate at home if you use the beautiful ingredients she recomments. Anyone would be comfortable in one of her classes from foodies to never cooked a thing. She engaged everyone in the process, informing us and keeping us laughing in equal measure. The location is well designed for classes, everyone has a front row seat in a light room. I plan to go back again and take one of her open classes.

Yelp
Had a great time going to Diane's with a group of coworkers. The class was more of a demonstration with some actual involvement - it was really educational as Diane walks you through what she has doing and how to shop for quality ingredients. Overall, great environment.

Yelp
I planned a team event at Diane's Market Kitchen and it was amazing. She provided so much valuable information in the presentation. And of course the meal was phenomenal. I especially appreciated her focus on fresh and superior ingredients. I left not just having a great time, but with several ideas for future meals and places to get great fruits, meats and spices. This is a place not to be missed. I'm looking forward to going back for more classes in the future.

Yelp
Fun to do once, but definitely not for the experienced cook. I have been to MUCH better cooking classes. Definitely not a good deal for the price. Took two lunch time classes within 2 weeks of each ther and found there to be too much repetition. Also, felt like she was getting commissioned for all the products she was peddling. Too much talking not enough cooking or good food.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I attended one of Diane's morning breakfast classes. I thought it was a great experience! We were 2 of 4 people there, and I really enjoyed the intimacy of the class. Diane emphasizes the importance of each ingredient. I would not consider myself an experienced cook, so this aspect of her class really inspired me to think more critically about each ingredient when cooking. Overall it was a wonderful way to spend a morning! I would love to go back!

Yelp
I took my girlfriend to Diane's Mexican 101 class and had an amazing time! It felt like a private lesson. Not only did Diane make everyone feel comfortable regardless of culinary skill level ( mine being 0), but she also was a great teacher. I learned a bunch of cooking tricks I never knew about. The food we made together with her was delicious! We both had a fantastic time and will likely be signing up for another class in the near future. Plus the location is right on a popular street so when people look in to see what that good smell is, you feel like you're on the Today show and the envy of everyone passing. Also, try her "awesome salt" , lives up to the name.

Yelp
My sister in law was visiting this weekend and I was looking for something for the three of us to do together. I came across Diane's Market Kitchen through searching online. What a find! I did read the reviews on here before I signed up, but really I think her classes speak for itself. Diane gives great tips on how to make fabulous food. The best part is you don't feel intimidated at all during the whole process no matter what skill level you are. The environment was fun and encouraging. You get great food, learn some great cooking tricks, and get entertainment all in one. What a deal! It is definitely a must try.

Yelp
I did a private party here, and I cannot say enough good things about it! Diane was so wonderful and fun- definitely knows a lot about sustainable and local food choices. We learned A LOT! The price is totally worth it! I'll be back soon!

Yelp
My Mom and I went for a Lunch and Learn class and we had a great time. The seafood pasta was absolutely incredible. Diane is great and loves her job.

Yelp
More than a good dinner out- Diane's has a great atmosphere, wonderful food and wine AND you get to learn how to cook and take recipes home! A wonderful way to celebrate an occasion or just spend an evening- more of an experience than your typical night out. Diane is a warm host with an interesting story and a wealth of knowledge about good food and local ingredients. Would absolutely recommend this awesome place!
