Though I have previously enjoyed a variety of Dick Taylor's bars, when spending the night in Eureka, I had to take advantage of the chance to visit the actual shop and sample their other offerings! That is really the reason you should stop by. You can buy the bars cheaper elsewhere (I saw them on sale at a regular 'ol grocery store in Trinidad for $2 less than here), but nothing beats tasting EVERY SINGLE ONE and choosing your favs.
The area the shop is located in is slightly run down, and not particularly impressive, but the store interior is beautiful, if bordering on overly hipster. There are windows into the manufacturing area, and though nothing appeared to be running on my visit, it was still interesting to see. Along with their many bars, they had chocolate covered caramels and almonds, some "Dick Taylor" mugs and hats, a few books, cards, several external brand chocolate bars, and Jacobsen sea salt.
The employees seemed a tad pretentious, and mostly left me to my own devices, but were acceptably friendly.
If you have not had their particular treats, they are skillfully made craft chocolate bars, many single origin varieties, but also some with thoughtful inclusions. My favorites were Brown Butter Nibs and Sea Salt, Black Currant and Orange, and the limited release Fiji bar. They are priced around $9 each, and trust me, this is very reasonable for truly good chocolate. Decidedly NOT candy bars, these are instead meant to be treasured and savored slowly.
