"In 1954, three friends set out to simply "serve fresh, high quality food at low prices with instant service." Bank executives warned they'd never turn a profit selling 100percent beef burgers for 19 cents, but the drive-through was a runaway hit. Among its many honors, this Seattle institution wasvoted America's Most Life-Changing Burger by Esquire readers. Swing by one of its six locations—marked by iconic orange signs harking back to the atomic age—for a meaty epiphany, alongwith hand-cut fries and freshly whipped shakes. Best of all: Dick's offers worker scholarships and even insures part-time employees. So you can feel good about the indulgence!"

Google
My friend from Washington took me here and I left very happy. Great burger. I liked the seasoning salt in it. Fun joint. Definitely a place with a fun vibe that you can crash at after an event. We luckily beat the traffic-just as we got sour food a big line formed. They get your food to you lightning fast. It was very impressive. I had the felled burger, fries, and a root beer float. It was all great.

Collin Reid

Google
Lightning fast service and top notch burgers at a reasonable price! Don’t let lines scare you: they move super fast. We went during a pride event and even though there were huge lines, it took us less than 20 minutes and we got our food the second we paid. The got the deluxes and I got a coffee, and the burgers are good at the first bite, but it’s the aftertaste that’s best. Most surprisingly, the par coffee paired so well with the burger that it became exceptional. Highly recommend for a traditional genuine and affordable Seattle experience!

Google
Dick's Hamburger The prices are pretty good, but you have to pay extra for ketchup, etc., for the fries. Speaking of fries, they're good! Fried with skin and a brownish color—none of those pale, light-colored fries. The hamburger taste fresh but it's very avg. Nothing to write or tell about.

Alan C

Google
What a great dive! This is a walk-up or drive-thru only place! There is a stainless steel standing table for like 8 people if you eat your order there. But don't expect anything else for seating or a table. That said, you can't beat the price and taste! The buns were buttered and toasted to a perfect crispy toasty goodness to compliment the cheap burger it is holding. The fries are Crispy and has the skin on! Which is yummy! The milkshakes are thick and sweet! Definitely will be coming back again and again!

Google
Dick's Drive In....Broadway St. in downtown Seattle. One fun, crazy place where you can see any and every kind of person in line at the burger stand. The service was very fast and friendly, the burgers are tasty, the chocolate shakes were very good. It's definitely an old school vibe that will take you back a few decades to better times. If you're in the Seattle area, it's worth the stop.

Google
Had to try this local staple. Very simple menu. Very affordable, but you have to pay for any condiments or extras. Solid burger and homemade fries that are not as crispy as the fast food chains ,but seem more natural and not pre- blanched or frozen. It was a cold evening very long line that moved very fast, and a delightful street musician made our experience very pleasant and authentic. Did not try the ice cream or shakes because of the cold weather, will try during summer!

Google
Was told to try this by someone from the area! Glad we did, traditional old school Americana still alive today in drive in style! Classic burgers, shakes and fries! Also very affordable with surprisingly low cost! The food was excellent and even the fries had excellent flavor from the quality of potato they use! Didn’t even use ketchup! I highly recommend you check this local spot out!!!! Very tasty and enjoyable!

Google
Good place. Food is good. Outside/walk up window was new to me. Had no idea you couldn't substitute toppings on burgers for example no relish. None the less still decent enough. Service is quick. Food is hot. Price is extremely reasonable. If you haven't tried Dick's in Seattle you definitely should.
google avatar

D S.

Yelp
Its Dicks, nothing amazing but fast cheap food that is convenient, consistent and always hot. Good team and always security. Enjoy eating that bag of Dicks at the bar or head to Cal Anderson and relax. Enjoy yourself a hot bag of Seattle Dicks
google avatar

Yelp
Let me start by saying it's no In-N-Out. The burger was decent, but nothing special. I'm annoyed that you can't customize or swap out condiments--seriously, who doesn't let you tweak a burger? And charging extra for ketchup? That's ridiculous, come on. The fries were average at best--soggy and disappointing. I don't get why people line up for this. It's way overhyped. The ambiance is hipster, with a side of fent.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Sorry, I know this is a Seattle staple, but I don't get it. The best part was their fries! The burgers have no special sauce so it feels like I can make a better burger at home for faster. It's cheap, great! LOL. Paying extra for ketchup also feels crazy; Would rather go to McDonalds. The service is fine, ambiance is fine, feels like it should - a burger joint. There's so many better burgers in Seattle, the money you save isn't worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
What is it that makes this place iconic? I have had better tasting food elsewhere. There was nothing good or even remotely iconic about this place. If you are standing by these undercooked limp oily fries and the tartar sauce burger then you're clearly doing something special to market yourself as iconic. I cannot believe people stood in long lines waiting for this mess of a meal.
google avatar

Jeron W.

Yelp
My friend and I were craving a burger and him being the local, he suggested Dick's. I was a little taken aback that there was no seating, but that's totally fair considering a deluxe burger was less than $6. For that $6, you get a loaded double patty burger, which looks a hell lot better than what I've gotten from McDonald's.

Yelp
Dick's burger in WA is like In&Out in CA, it's a stable, decent, and cheap place to go for college kids. You either like them a lot or you don't. Personally, I don't like the burger but when you're ran out of money and hungry, this would be the place for me to go when I moved to Seattle decades ago...I like they shake and fries a lot. Now i introduced to my kid when we visited Seattle and he likes it too (behind In&Out of course). Always lines here, since college campus is nearby and its fast service, you ordered and they get the foods and give it to you right away, unless it ran out...sure you have to pay xtra for small stuff but it less then a dollar and the prices are fairly still cheap after all. Always stop by for a fries and shake when I visit, it's a must!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Fast, cheap, and plenty tasty. What more could you want from a walkup fast-food burger stand? No wonder it's a Seattle staple!

Yelp
I heard that Dick's was Seattle's version of In-N-Out so I had to check it out. I went for the first time last year when I was visiting Seattle and really loved it for the quality, service, and price point. The burger is pretty simple and I used to compare it to McDonald's and similar chains due to the price point, and in comparison to those chains, Dick's was significantly better. I'm usually not a fan of pickles but because they chop it up here and put it with a sauce, it actually enhanced the taste of the burger for me. The quality of the meat is also good as well. Another thing that I love is how Dick's is open really late and how quick the service here is. My major gripe with Dick's now is that when I came back to Seattle this year, I noticed that the prices for everything went up significantly and is more in line with the price of an In-N-Out burger. Although Dick's is enjoyable, I don't think it comes anywhere close to In-N-Out in terms of taste and quality and I don't think that the price justifies what you're getting anymore. While I unfortunately used to love coming here, I'd say that it's a pass for me now given the prices.
google avatar

Danica L.

Yelp
It was okay. Just very convenient because of their late night hours. I wasn't a fan of their burgers.
google avatar

Marcelino R.

Yelp
Simple burger place but pretty good! Menu isn't very big. Fast service and friendly faces. Small Outside eating area. I enjoyed the fries and the double patty burger with their signature sauce. It's also pretty cheap, so won't break the bank.

Yelp
We are Californians visiting and my friend brought us to Dick's because it is a staple in Seattle and equivalent to In N Out. This is my consensus: It is definitely not in and out. In N Out is better in my opinion. I've never had Foster Freeze, but my husband has and compares it to it. I love In Out burger's taste. Dick's burgers are pre-made and we don't like lettuce in our burgers, but you can't take them out. The burger was a little sweet for my liking. We laughed about the sugar tax for the sodas. Service was fast and friendly. It's not a drive through. Ambiance was cool. It's a drive in experience and you walk up and order. Fries- I worked at Five Guys for two years and we always either get potatoes from Idaho or Washington and I always preferred Washington fries to Idaho fries and these fries are equivalent to Five Guys Fries from Washington. I also got a shake and it was good. Overall, my husband enjoyed it, but it's not somewhere where I am dying to return.

Yelp
TLDR: Checks the box for overhyped, good fries, okay burger, overly sweet shakes. Ended up eating a second dinner elsewhere out of dissatisfaction. - - - - - - My Seattle friends hailed Dick's Drive-In as the In-N-Out equivalent, but I've found it quite different. I didn't quite see a drive-thru, but there was ample parking for quick bites (20 min) in their small lot. I ordered a deluxe with fries and a strawberry shake. The first thing I noticed was how quick order pickup was - literally instant, er within 10 seconds. The deluxe was a classic burger - by no means bad - dominated with flavors of cheese and mustard. The bun was a classic hamburger bun with no frills; overall, it felt like eating a plain hamburger drowned in cheese and mustard - meh. The fries were nice, though there was a 20 cent cost for sauce. I went with the tartar which also had a slight mustard-y taste. The fries were a limp texture but clean and had a slightly crip texture. They were not the largest portions but a nice snack. The strawberry shake, unfortunately, was over the top sweet and had to be tossed. If there was a way to drink strawberry flavored heavy cream with spoonfuls of sugar, this might be it.

Yelp
Food cheap and taste very good. Customer Service was excellent and employees were very friendly and knowledgeable of items listed on Dick's menu. I highly recommend this restaurant to visitors and I will definitely revisit this place

Yelp
Ambience. C Service. A Food. D Price. C Having lived in Seattle 38 years ...never understood the HYPE!!! Hmm DICK's Burger Day est. 1954 $.19 opening day prices My opinion... One of the WORST place for burgers and fries! I've tried them 3 separate decades and still bleh. Why there are lengthy lines for this 70+ year institution boggles my mind. You either love them VS. you either hate them. Service is friendly and great today at 3 pm. Line wasn't as long and three windows were open. So waiting wasn't long to order or get food. Server was nice to let me order HOT fries with out salt. This would be your place if you like 1/8 lukewarm meat patty on plain grilled bun (ketchup cost $.30 more) and sometime HOT fresh cut fried mushy limp greasy string fries. Two more days for trying their burger for 1954 opening prices at $.19 !!!... Unfortunately, I am NOT a FaN!!!

Yelp
I knew I had to try Dick's when in the area and it absolutely did not disappoint. I love that it's open late and honestly, it's the perfect stop for late night food. We ordered a vanilla shake, vanilla butterscotch sundae, with a burger and fries. I never see butterscotch anywhere so this was quite a treat! Absolutely delicious,
google avatar

Rashid M.

Yelp
The burger here was pretty good. I had the Dick's Special. I normally leave out the pickle when I order a burger and I didn't know that the special comes with a pickle relish, but the burger ended up being better than I expected. The Root Beer Float was very good.

Robert C.

Yelp
Oof! A miss every time. What happened? It used to be good, and you could count on them!! Those days are behind and what you will get it the taste of ketchup and very aged burgers and fries, even if they are busy somehow nothing is even close to fresh. They prepare everything into oblivion, so get there early and you are eating a rock hard heat lamped lump of hard bread and boiled ketchup. The fries are mush. Get there during a rush and you are still being handed rock hard nonsense somehow. Absolutely garbage, its just a faint memory and nostalgia. Bye bye dick.

Yelp
Convenient, cheap, & easy, Dick's Drive-In is a great place to stop for a quick lunch or perhaps a late night snack after a night of drinking with friends! It's not often you get a hamburger, fries, and milkshake for under $13 -- and it's not like they substitute quality for their speed. Like, yeah, it's not going to be the best burger you've ever had, but unless you're actively looking to be disappointed, you should enjoy the meal just fine. The staff was perfectly polite and very proficient, making sure the line moved smoothly and efficiently.
google avatar

Belldandy O.

Yelp
My friends and I were out late on Wednesday, but needed something quick and cheap for a late night bite! We planned on going to the location in Queen Anne, but decided it would be too busy and drove over to Capitol Hill! It was a lot busier than I thought for a weeknight, but the lines went by fast thankfully! Got my Dick's Deluxe Burger as soon as I paid for it!
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
We came here because it was late and we had drinks so of course we needed greasy food. A friend told me this place is better than In-N-Out so I had to try it. Verdict is, it's a pretty good rival. The bun is softer than a double double and the meat was pretty similar. What's different is the sauce and that's all about preference. I liked it but some in our group didn't. The fries are better than In-N-Out because those fries are awful so that's not hard. I also got a vanilla shake. Pretty good but it's hard to mess up a vanilla shake. The only downside is that they're a little rude or short which could be because they're dealing with mostly drunk people that hour. But all in all, a great spot for a late night burger.
google avatar

Yelp
When I visited Seattle from out of state, I took the opportunity to try the local burger joint. It's honestly nothing special but still a solid burger and a very solid price. The patty reminds me of Burger King, but this burger is way better. As a Californian, I still like In-N-Out more but I'm still a fan.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
Went to Dicks to grab dinner last night. We are new to the neighborhood and we're excited to check this place out! Service was just okay, the guy was meh. We ordered a couple of Deluxe Cheeseburgers, fries and Cokes. It was all yummy and for a good price too! I recommend this place if you are looking for a good burger place that doesn't drain your wallet!

Ethan P.

Yelp
Standard burger, but when I went back to the counter for a water 5 minutes later I was greeted with a man dancing with the "we're closed" sign and employees laughing about it. Extremely disrespectful.
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
To me this feels like Washington's in'n'out coming from someone who grew up in LA. The food was good and the service was great. It has a great 50s diner and drive in vibe. Definitely a place to visit when visiting washington as long as you get tartar sauce. If you don't it's not nearly as good.

Eric B.

Yelp
This place reminds me of the story of the original burger chain we all know. Walk up, get your food immediately, and eat it. Simple, yet beautiful. I can't say it's anything outstanding, but you definitely get exactly what you expect. Highly recommend if you're hungry and in the area.
google avatar

Hugh A.

Yelp
Okay you just can't beat the prices. It's quick, cheap, and fast you literally can't complain. My only hot take is that in n out is still better. Sorry to whom that may offend.

Victoria C.

Yelp
I've been away from Seattle for 2 years. What I miss is Dicks, with a delicious quality burger, and great unique fries. Great shake. A company that gives back to the community. Quick service. You always know what you are going to get.
google avatar

Karina R.

Yelp
The burgers here are really good, if you're looking for a quick reliable burger spot then this is it ! Only down side if you've never eaten at this little chain before like I haven't prior is that you can customize your burger, everything is as is. But it's kind of a good thing it makes the service faster. Would definitely go back for a savory reliable burger
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
As a California Native, I'm pretty much a die-hard In-N-Out fan, but I was willing to try Dick's in order to experience what the people of Seattle knew and loved. I knew going into it that it would be disappointing, yet somehow it still subceeded all my expectations for what a burger should be. It's not even in the same league as what In-N-Out is in California. Cheap burgers, but they charge extra for each of the sauces or add-ons. Not very satisfying to eat as they're small, lukewarm, and the quality of ingredients are subpar; At the same price you get a much better deal at McDonalds, which is saying a lot. No indoor dining area, and maybe only like 5 menu items: four variations of the same burger, and fries. The fries look a dark brown, almost burnt color, yet are soggy. The only plus side is that you get the burger immediately.
google avatar

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
Delicious traditional burger and fries. Limited offerings and small portions but tasty, traditional, old school flavor. You walk up to order, it's not a drive-in but does have the same retro vibe. I ordered a special with ketchup and mustard on the side and some fries. I could've eaten 2 but it was delicious.
google avatar

Luis V.

Yelp
This will have to be the biggest foodie adventure let down from my Seattle visit. Let me start off by saying the cashiers are super nice and chill. They answered my questions in such a nice and patient manner. There have been many websites and youtube videos stating that this burger joint was a must to visit in Seattle. I ordered the Dick's deluxe, and was super unimpressed. It's sad to say, but I'd take a McDonald's burger over this burger and honestly......McDonald's is at the bottom of the barrel for burger places I'd get a burger from. Everything in the burger just tasted like poor quality ingredients. Fries were super soggy, under seasoned, and sad looking. Louie gives Dick's Drive-In a 2 star for great service but terrible food. If you are visiting from another state, you will be more than okay skipping this foodie spot.
google avatar

Christine W.

Yelp
Great burgers at fantastic prices! Not as good as Five Guys but way more worth the price. I got a small lemonade, which was what I wanted most. The deluxe burger was fine, the fries were really good!
google avatar

Brenton U.

Yelp
First stop when we got off the plane and Dicks didn't disappoint. We just wanted a quick bite before heading home. The burgers were good for the price, patty reminded me of a McDonald's patty but the sauce they use is next level. The service was great and we got our food within minutes of ordering. The fries were ok, they are made with fresh potatoes but aren't crisp at all. The shake however was awesome! Super thick and creamy. I got the vanilla and it did not disappoint. If you're in need a quick late night bite this is the place!

Luke G.

Yelp
When the security reprimanded me for being anti-crackhead, I was trying to get a cheeseburger in peace. There is a man who is yelling about how great crack is, and I'm the one person who says it isn't great. Their security apparently thinks that I am the antagonize her by being anti-smoking crack. The security let me know that the crackhead had been there for hours and for me being anti-crackhead that I was causing a problem. This is the major issue it's not the person who is verbally assaulting people it's the one person who actually says something while 25 people are in line. Burger and fries are 9.60 and a wait
google avatar

Esther Khongorzul S.

Yelp
Dick's Drive-In is probably the best you'll get in Washington since we don't have an In-N-Out here. The food is decent, but be prepared for outrageously long lines. Unfortunately, there's nowhere to sit, so you'll likely end up eating in your car. Also, be mindful of the homeless presence in the area. Despite these downsides, it's still a solid spot for a quick bite if you're craving a classic burger joint experience.
google avatar

Cardin N.

Yelp
One of my favorite burger chains out there. Simple flavorful burgers and fries! The service is always exceptional since I know the staff are compensated well and there is even tuition reimbursement as well. There aren't a ton of space for eating there but it's very simple burgers that can be eating while standing up!
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
After months having moved here, I finally tried the infamous late night Dick's. I won't lie - I had a great meal. But 11pm meals always hit different. For the price, it's amazing (relative to everywhere else). I enjoyed my burger and shake. It's nothing crazy special, but it does hit the spot. I'm from CA and controversial opinion but I don't think In-n-Out is that amazing. I actually think I enjoyed Dick's more. The reason for a 4 is because their fries were a bit subpar - not the most flavorful or crispy (unlike McDonald's on a good day). Still good late at night though! 4 cause fries don't lie
google avatar

Ally C.

Yelp
A Seattle staple for sure! Dick's is pretty mid, but somehow it's a must in Seattle. Especially when it's open until 2am. With the lack of fast food in Seattle, Dick's can satisfy the craving. Everything is super cheap but you get what you pay for. The fries are kinda soggy and plain. The burger was okay. The milkshakes are pretty good though. A must after a night out in cap hill.
google avatar

Arthur T.

Yelp
A Seattle staple! Got 1 special, 2 cheeseburgers, and 1 fry. I still prefer the cheeseburgers since I'm not the biggest fan of their sauce they use in their special. Downside, I did notice the fries got a lot less. Tight parking in the area, especially when it gets late at night for some munchies.
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
Dick's Drive-In feels like a very old-school classic fast-food burger joint. There are several ordering windows that guests can line up at and they move pretty quickly. We tried the Deluxe Burger, the Special Burger, and an order of fries. A note on pricing: condiments cost extra, and there's a sugar tax applied to the sodas. The Deluxe burger comes with cheese and two burger patties whereas the Special burger has a single patty. I was a bit disappointed with Special. The patty was pretty dry and there wasn't too much flavor. I did really like the bun though, it was soft and yummy, and probably my favorite part of the burger. The Deluxe burger was much better. The two patties were more flavorful and juicier than the Special.

Lindsie H.

Yelp
Zero if I could. Fries were limp and flavorless and burger was meh... did I eat it? Yes only because I was starving. I definitely won't be back.
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
This place is great. I don't think I've ever been disappointed here. The customer service is top notch and burgers still amazing. I always get 2 deluxe and a fries. Prolly the best fries on the hill too. They also treat their employees very well.
google avatar

Stacie H.

Yelp
This place is amazing. It has the very best burgers and shakes around Seattle. The only place that compares to them is Dags in which there is no longer a Dags any place at all. I have searched high and low for one so plane next to them is Dick's. I go here very often and friendly customer service as well.. love your burgers and shakes. Nothing COMPARES
google avatar

Yelp
Dick's Drive-In has been around since the early '50s, and they offer a quick burger-shake-fries experience for those on the go. The menu offers burgers made with 100% real beef that is supposedly delivered fresh and never frozen on a daily basis; fries, shakes, ice cream, and drinks (soda, milk, coffee, and hot chocolate). I came here for lunch, and ordered the following items: +2 Deluxes - came with two 1/8 lb grilled patties, melted cheese, lettuce, mayo, and pickle relish +fries - comes as one size; made with pacific northwest potatoes that are hand-cut daily and fried in sunflower oil The meal was okay; the burgers were a little bland and dried out, and I think it would have been better if we requested extra mayo. Wasn't really a fan of the buns, as they seemed slightly stale. The fries were piping hot and were a good side order. Staff were efficient and moved the line along. The orders come out quickly, and there seems to be a line here, whatever the time of the day it was. Glad I was able to check this place out while visiting the area, but not sure if I'd go out of my way to return. +dried patties & buns +hand-cut fries +efficient service
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
Well this old sturdy drive through just keeps on kicking. If you are looking for a decent hangover cure which is a lot better and cheaper than fast food places this is the place for sure. The deluxe burger is quick and easy but make sure you order the side ketchup and tater sauce. Also the mint chip ice cream with hot fudge was the thing that pulled everything together. I was honestly surprised that this staple of a business offers their employees benefits. I mean you are talking about scholarships, health care, paid community service, and more. For a business like this that is an added bonus. I mean you have to be crazy to not love Dick's after hearing how much they invest into their employees.

Yelp
When we asked our friend who grew up in Seattle where to eat on our trip, he recommended trying Dick's burgers. J ordered a hamburger with a side of onions and fries. (note: the onions are like the ones you put on a hotdog, rather than onion rings). Considering the hamburger + fries was under $5, it was a solid meal. The burger was a bit soggy as they don't toast their buns, but the meat was decent and the fries were pretty good. Overall, the quality was on par with the affordable price point, but the LA in me is just biased towards in-n-out. If you want the Seattle experience though, I'd recommend giving it a shot at least once!

Yelp
Have a history with Dicks. In the past, my Moroccan friends loved this place. Anytime someone came from out of town, we had to stop here. Would order Dicks deluxe, fries and chocolate milkshakes. Many fond memories of sitting just outside the car, eating our hamburgers and watching the sights here. I now 20 years later, have a student from Madagascar living with me. He wanted to try an American hamburger. He first asked to go to Jack in the Box. He said his burger was good, but underwhelming. I wanted to show him the Seattle burger experience. So we stopped at Dicks here on our way home to Shoreline. First, he was a little overwhelmed by the Capitol Hill ambiance. Crowds of people, a security guard patrolling the restaurant and several of people asking for donations. I ordered two Dicks deluxe burgers for him, plus French fries. I offered him to eat at the standing booth, but he was scared of the rough crowd right by. For the food, he gave great reviews. Now he was enamored of these burgers. He said something so funny. "My mouth misses the taste of these burgers after a few minutes of eating them." Ambiance, experience and cheap burgers all a plus.

Yelp
First, we'll start with the name. It shouldn't really be called Dick's Drive-In. More like Dick's Park-n-Puke. If you've ever wondered why comics say "eat a bag of Dick's" as an insult? Dick's Drive-In is the answer. By far the _worst_ burger with a reputation I've ever experienced in my life. When I ask Seattleites about it they all cite how Dick's is iconic yet every one of them says "But the burgers aren't great". Yeah. No s**t. I've been in San Antonio, Austin, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and now Seattle for the last 4 years. Worst. Burger. Ever. Even corporate fast food burgers are better. I am convinced that the only reason Dick's stay in business is because they thrive after midnight when everyone else is closed, and the patrons are all too drunk to know how bad the food is or even notice it is drowning in that special "sauce". Do yourself a favor, and make sure you are good and drunk (or high af) before you go. Then maybe you'll think it is the best burger ever. Because ... you know ... you're too drunk or high to know better.
