The 38 Essential Restaurants in Phoenix

"Like the other two restaurants under this restaurant family’s umbrella — Richardson’s and the Rokerij — this sliver of a spot dominated by a long bar specializes in New Mexican cuisine but ventures into ’80s-era Southwestern territory as well. Regulars come for the all-day brunch, offering rellenos, huevos rancheros, smoky carne adovada, steak, green chile stew, and Vic’s meatloaf with eggs. The menu is broad and the choices seemingly endless. If finding a table is impossible, pop over to Richardson’s or the Rokerij instead. The menus are nearly identical. However, Dick’s is the only one of the three to open at 7 a.m." - Nikki Buchanan, Chris Malloy

Where to Eat in Phoenix

"This tiny restaurant serves Mexican, American, and Southwestern fare in a rustic, yet casually upscale, setting. It’s a place where locals like to bring out-of-state visitors. The menu includes burgers, steaks, fresh fish, and meals from The Santa Fe Trail like carne adovada, smoked pork slow-simmered in red chile." - MATADOR_NETWORK

The food was absolutely delicious—authentic Mexican dishes made with real ingredients and bold flavors. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the portion sizes were huge. We all left full, with plenty of leftovers to take home. The fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juices were a standout—bright, refreshing, and clearly just-pressed (just please, dump the plastic straws..) Service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and relaxed. The vibe of the place is intimate and cozy, with warm lighting, dark wood tones, and a kind of secret, tucked-away feel (just like the name suggests). It’s got a moody, upscale cantina atmosphere that makes you want to linger over your food and drinks. Bonus: lots of free parking in the lot, which made the whole visit easy and stress-free.

Went for an early dinner. The food was delicious. Food came out hot and spicy which I like, even the tortilla that comes out my meal was hot. The server was amazing and never had empty glasses at our table. The atmosphere was nice and private, we went early which is most likely why. I have been here before, about 8 years ago. Food is just as amazing as I had back then.

Came to Dick's because a friend recommended this place... Staff immediately said hello with a friendly smaile...two different people waited on us, a male & female...both, very attentive and polite. They made recommended and chatted with us. Ordered onion rings, and they were good...my blackened fish tacos were terrific, and my wife's enchiladas were nice, hot & flavorful... All was going well, till my wife bit on a piece of metal in her enchiladas...she hurt her gum slightly, but feeling the sharpness of the metal - she was very lucky. She could have cut her tongue or worse... Another gentleman came over, profusely apologized, explained that it looked like a piece of knife that broke off during prep, and comped the meal. The genuine care & concern for my wife's well-being, as well as how good things were prior to the unfortunate incident - all this considered, I still gave the establishment 5 stars.

Google
Crazy that I stumbled on this place. You can't find it which is probably why they call it a Hideaway! This place is soooooo cool on the inside and hard to believe it is in a strip mall. The people working there were super nice and invited me to look around which I did. Funny that I entered through what I thought was a service door into the kitchen! But that is the entry! I really really really loved the vibe. The drinks were the only thing that did not hit the 5 star - kinda average and highly priced (15 to 18 per drink). The actual food was great! Overall, was there at happy hour and it cost $60+ with the tip for 2 happy hour drinks and one happy hour plate (a little pricy for happy hour). Not sure I would go back but glad I got the experience

Fist time trying this place out. Was recommended by a friend. If you've never been here, you're sort of left to "figure it all out" on your own. Maybe that's the point since this place is very much set up with a Speakeasy vibe. There's no signage out front, which is fine. However, once inside, no one tells you what the deal is. We walked in (2 of us) and were told, "There's seating up top in the back." Ok, cool. We head to "the back" and go up the 2 steps. There's a little room with 2 long tables and 1 L shaped table. All 3 tables had people sitting at them. We quickly realized, thanks to menus and place settings, that this place is a community dining place! No problem at all, it was actually fun! I just feel like this is something you should be told upon arrival, so it spares the dumbfounded looks and confusion. Once we sat and got settled in, the service was pretty slow. The food was pretty tasty, and we will most likely visit again, although not in a hurry to return.

Always love this place! Breakfasts are truly awesome, and had a fabulous dinner (a first time for dinner) that was as good or better than breakfast! If you can't get a seat, head to Richardson's or Rokerji down the road for the same fare... both are also incredible!

Google
Great hole in the wall place. New Mexican dishes were excellent. Portions are super generous. Cool DARK atmosphere . Great service.

Google
A very unique experience. The kind of place the locals know about, like walking into a speakeasy! Small venue with a great atmosphere. The service was very good, food was prepared in a reasonable time, drinks were kept filled. The meatloaf and eggs was good, it was more like a hamburger steak however. The green chili sauce and 3 eggs, over easy, made an enjoyable combination. The skewers were also a good choice, both were generous portions. I would definitely make it a point to go there! As the pictures show, the light is dim and adds to the atmosphere.

Yelp
This is a favorite of my Wife and I and we're regulars here for 30 years. The restaurant is located in a fun foodie location on the N/W corner of 16st & Bethany Home. Parking can be a challenge but adjacent business parking is available. If you've never been here you could walk past it easily. Enter from the East side of the strip mall and a door takes you below ground into a dark atmosphere with a copper bar on one side were you can eat and watch them cook, and a small but curiously cozy dining area of maybe five tables and one large dining table which is shared. We always preferred this table, it's a great way to meet people a chat over a meal. Food Admittedly we have never been in for breakfast and lunch or dinner have stuck to our go to; Carne Adovada. This delicious smoke pork dish is their claim to fame signature dish. Smoked all day its smoke tantalizes the neighborhood. We lived nearby and were teased with its aroma lol. It's served pulled with beans, rice and a delicious Smokey red chili sauce reminiscent of Chipotle. It's a fun place to experience and without doubt the #1 place for Carne Adovada! With a visit. $$/$$$

Yelp
I wanted to like it- I was amped to try it- but the reality of our experience fell very short of our hopeful expectations- Visiting the area for vacation, I discovered Dick's Hideaway, via a foodie suggestion on where to find xmas chili dishes! We arrived Tuesday late afternoon, specifically for the brunch menu. We were seated in the back room, which was dimly lit, seemingly for ambiance, but was way far to dim- we had to use our phone flashlights to really look at the menu- Our waiter asked about drinks, but coming post hike we really just wanted waters- waters were brought quickly, but the we didn't see our waiter again for 15mins- no water refill, no food order, just waiting in the dark-(i noticed because I was charging my phone & checking charge levels occasionally) Also, while waiting to order, it was a bit disturbing to realize our seats were next to the only bathroom, which was also located through the kitchen- my husband joked, "I feel like that has to offend some code" Once we finally ordered, I opted for the Chili Relleno & my husband the Richard's combo- while ordering I attempted to ask the waiter about the xmas chili & jalapeno hashbrowns over plain, but he was too quick to leave- though we noticed our order took awhile to get anywhere because as it was hand written, our waiter stopped in the hallway to talk to another staff member & was there for about 7mins- Eventually the food came, well my husband's did- the waiter brought his PIPING HOT METAL PLATE out, put it in front of my husband, with no warning 'hot plate', & my husband had to find out the hard way But my food never came- after the other long waits, I decided to glance at the time, 3:44pm- my husband sat there politely waiting for my food to come- I kept telling him eat while it's hot, but 14minutes later my plate came out- different looking design, no warning, I also found out it was a very piping hot plate- I had asked for chili relleno- one duck & asked what the waiter suggested pork or smoked turkey- he said pork- and then discovered apparently the waiter was so pro-pork that both of my rellenos were stuffed with pork- the relleno itself was awful; I'd say 80% breading, tiny pepper, barely any meat or cheese inside- hashbrowns & beans were scalding hot- I ended up taking them to go because with the plate they were on they weren't cooling down & we had already been there a long time- Hubby's expensive platter didn't match the description; jalapeno benedict, 2 chicken enchiladas, asparagus- he was served chicken in flour tortilla & ham on English muffin (no jalapeno)- Excited for the xmas chili- we both got just green & had to ask for a side of red, that came cold- didn't blend well- Everything overall, for the higher price points were very underwhelming in flavor boldness- needed salt, needed zest, had no profile- Would highly NOT recommend- And at this point, yes you're correct to guess getting boxes & paying took quite a while as well-

Yelp
Small crowded neighborhood bar and eatery. Layout has potential to cause patrons harm should something small happen inside. Back room has difficult access, again a safety issue getting in or out. Not a place I will go to again. For me the price of foods and drinks is well over priced for the area. Each item I tried from is common fare in Phoenix metro yet it seemed to me the chefs were trying prove they could prepare meals their way whether customers could eat what was put in front of them There are some who I am confident may enjoy this environment and food, I am just not one of them...

Yelp
I was excited to try this place because I've been to one of their other restaurants and loved it however this was a miss for me. I'm in my 30s and felt like walking inside was a hazard, super dark and the seating is weird if you wanna have conversation. I get that the concept is different but it just didn't fit my preference. As for the food, I felt we waited for a while to get our food after we ordered, we came on a Sunday around 10ish. I got the green chile pork. The plate looked huge but there wasn't much pork in it. The taste was good but too anemic on the protein. The tortillas are delicious. Our server was good. Unfortunately I don't think I would run back here.

Yelp
I visited Dick's Hideaway for a late-ish lunch on a weekday. Like everyone says, it's difficult to find. Fortunately, I did my research prior and knew to look for Luci's. There's a few parking spots right up front and more behind the building. I arrived late, and my friend was already seated. The space is small but cozy. Starving, we ordered right away. Our server was very helpful and guided us through the menu. I went with the New Mexico Enchiladas--two shrimp and one veggie--served with rice and beans, and I chose both red and green sauce. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. The enchiladas were delicious! Maybe it was my hunger, but they really hit the spot. While the veggie enchilada was good, the shrimp ones were even better, and I'd definitely order them again. My friend loved her dish too. Service was fast and friendly. I'm excited to go back!

Yelp
Oh my gosh was this food good. Worth the difficulty finding the place (a true hideaway, there's no sign, just the restaurant address on the door), and the half hour we stood in the tiny part in the front waiting for a table (it was 6:30 on Saturday night, we can't hold that against them). Our waitress was amazing - she was managing so many things at once and she was always kind and helpful. I had the enchilada plate, with green-chile pork, chicken, and beef enchiladas and green sauce. It was so flavorful, so cheesy, and the amount of food was insanely huge. Like I could have split this with my husband and we might still have leftovers. He had the New Mexican plate, and he was equally pleased with his food. It feels divey inside, and the playlist was really fun. Just overall a great experience!

Yelp
Service was great today! Food was excellent! We ate salmon bites, bacon wrapped Jalep's, carne Benedict and the Huevos rancheros. Had to share this spot with some friends visiting from California... They love supporting local spots and are foodies, so I knew they would enjoy this spot for brunch before flying back to the Bay Area. We love the ambiance in this place, we have been coming here for years and year and years... Surprised I haven't reviewed earlier. We left and I'm now ready for an afternoon nap haha! Good eats, good vibes, good company and good service today. Thanks for making our friend's last lunch in town special. :).

Yelp
Dick's Hideaway has been on my list for quite some time! I finally got to make it happen and checked it out for a late lunch while in the area. As the names suggests, with no major signs or markers, Dick's Hideaway, is well, hidden away! Next to Luci's with a small sign at the bottom of the door that says, "Sorry, we are open", the entrance is unassuming, but does have their menus posted on the outside to let you know you are in fact, in the right place. Honestly, already off to an awesome start. The inside is dark and the initial bar area is quite small, they do have a few other sections of the restaurant, so I am not sure how big it actually is, but we sat at one of the high tops in the bar area, near the entrance. Right off the bat, service was very friendly, promptly took our beverage orders. We stuck with cold brew this time around, which was simple enough and smooth! I was torn with the menu, as everything sounded delicious They are known for their New-Mexican inspired cuisine and their brunch, which they serve until 4:00 pm. I was torn between Richards Special, which is two chicken enchiladas with a jalapeno hollandaise sauce benny with asparagus or the meatloaf benny special, The server let me know he could swap the bennys out and all my dreams came true. Portions were generous, food was super flavorful and overall, it was a great experience. I definitely look forward to returning and trying out some of their other items and enjoying even more of the atmosphere.

Yelp
Amazing service, fantastic food, nice ambience - although it was hard to find I think that's why they call it Dick's Hideaway
google avatar

Yelp
We love this place, food has never been anything but fantastic, huge portions, so flavorful. The food is not something everyone would enjoy/appreciate but if you love New Mexico Chile and are open minded to creativity and some variation from what would be straightforward New Mexican cuisine you will likely find this place to be mind blowingly good. Down side is that it's small so at times it can be hard to get in and the process of there is a wait is clunky (just kind of awkwardly hang out and hope room becomes available). But that's why we come early or during the week so that we aren't battling a crowd.

Yelp
This is my go to breakfast/brunch spot! The staff is always friendly and the food is on point! It's a place I take out of town visitors to give them something different. They have traditional food but also offer unique options which I love about this place. It's on the small side so seats fill up fast especially on Saturday. I love the atmosphere!

Yelp
The food was so good, I'm still dreaming about it! The service was top-notch, and they rolled out the red carpet for our big brunch crew. The private room was a cozy surprise. We're already planning our next visit!

Yelp
This is one of the places that I miss most in Phoenix. My friend introduced me to this (literally) hidden gem on 16th & Bethany. There are no signs for it, it's tucked between some other businesses in the plaza, and if you didn't know where you were going...you wouldn't know where you were going. That being said, once I found out about this place, I frequented it very often, I would have gone daily if my budget and belly had been able to afford it! It's super small and dark, but cozy and inviting at the same time. There were times we waited, especially during peak hours, but it was always worth it. Service was always top notch - whether we sat at the bar or were in one of the corner tables. And the food and drink were just...amazing. Everything from a simple mimosa or bloody to a craft cocktail was just delicious. And their food...heavenly, divine, out of this world. They had the best bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers; I can't order those anywhere without nearly guaranteed disappointment compared to this place. As far as entrees, I don't think I ever had anything I didn't absolutely love, but carne adovada was probably among the best. I also had their seafood linguine, pasta heidi, and quesadilla. Portions were MASSIVE, I usually had leftovers for at least 2 days. In short, if you are looking for a new local favorite, your search ends here!

Yelp
Our monthly dinner friends brought us to Dick's Hideaway; it is approximately named, it is hidden. It's tiny but comfortable. The food was delicious and very well plated. Our server was pleasant. They don't take reservations and it is tiny, so make sure to arrive early.

Yelp
Love love love this place!! The food here is always fabulous and the atmosphere is always lively. The place is very small so it's not good for groups. Also, there is no sign outside that says Dicks Hideaway! You just have to know where this restaurant is. It's in between the hedges. But back to the food because the food is really the star of this restaurant! The sausages, the bacon wrapped scallops the steaks the enchiladas everything here is absolutely fabulous and you can't go wrong with whatever you decide to order. I highly highly highly recommend this place especially if you like very spicy food. The food is always flavored so well and the drinks are always on point! You gotta give this place a try!
google avatar

Tracy G.

Yelp
Food was exceptions here. I ordered a fancy margarita and was fairly impressed. The stuffed jalapeños were awesome. Brussel sprouts were ok. Pasta was also fresh and delicious and the platters are just simply the best. Everything is Larger portions. Note: Some limited seating and a lot of communal tables, but I thought that was nicely done. Good wine lists here. Interior is slightly dark and intimate. I honestly can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Visited this weekend and was a little let down, Me, my wife and a friend sat at the bar and the server walked up a few mins later and gave them both water but i guess he didn't see me some how and didn't bring me a glass haha. Ordered the skewers and they tasted almost spoiled shrimp was hard(overcooked), steak was almost sour. It was on the other hand a big portion so I'm guess it was just a one off on the flavor. Ordered a Michelada and waiter didn't ask what kind of beer i wanted, came out tasting like a craft beer in the drink, also could have been colder :( Used the restroom and was surprised that they had an entire tray of the stuff jalapeño sitting on a box directly in-front of the RR door, thinking those should be in a walk in somewhere. Didn't get any photos was left disappointed.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is always top notch all of it. The food reminds me of home. If you haven't tried Dick's Hideaway you're missing out. The tortillas to me are not cooked enough so I ways order with out one.

Yelp
Great food, large tasty portions. Atmosphere is soothing and staff are always attentive. Plan on bringing some food home.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was quick. Not a lot of seating, but we got right in around 1pm. I had breakfast and my wife had carne asada fries. Both were delicious. Lucky find, because you won't know it's there.

Yelp
Dick's Hideaway was an awesome hidden gem on a recent trip to Arizona for the Final Four. It is very hidden, it is an unmarked door next to a nail salon. The interior is filled with dusty wine bottles and is somewhat Southwestern themed. It is perfect. The portions are insane. We came for brunch and I got the Midwestern. It can easily be split for two people - but they do charge for that. Everything on the platter was really nicely cooked, and I hated leaving so much food behind. I got my breakfast with a side of the Jalapeno hashbrowns. They were super good and crispy. I also got the level 2 green chile and the Habanero salsa on the side. Both were super good, but if you aren't a fan of hot stuff order it on the side. I'd highly recommend coming here, and am looking forward to coming back again sometime!
google avatar

Ray P.

Yelp
Accidentally ended up here when the brunch spot I was going ran out of food. Can't believe this wasn't a primary choice. The adobada was to die for, the bloody Mary's on point but the character & vibe sold the show.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
Stopped by here for breakfast the other day and had a great time. This place is a true "morning bar"! I was there around 9 am and the bar was mostly full with people enjoying breakfast and drinks. It's dark inside, but that adds to the ambiance. They had great music playing and the service was fantastic. I ordered a mimosa, which was very generous, the duck enchiladas with a side of jalapeno hashbrowns, and finally a pour of El Tesoro reposado (I was impressed they had this, few places do). It was all delicious and overall I really enjoyed my morning here. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Sabrina J.

Yelp
We went here for my husband's birthday and this place did not disappoint at all! Everything was perfect from the food to the ambiance to the above and beyond service! If you haven't tried this place than you must go bc you'll be back for more that's for sure! We had so much food that we had leftovers for a few days bc they give you so much!

Yelp
Just go to this restaurant. It's a great setting tucked into a strip mall. The food is as delicious as any trendy restaurant in SF or LA. I never miss it when I'm in town.
google avatar

Patty P.

Yelp
This place was not at all what I expected The interior threw me off a bit too But the mix of decor and setting was nice The food was amazing gigantic portions and soo much flavor, a bit on the spicy side but I like spicy , service was nice very attentive and fast knowledgeable and helped us as we browsed the menu.

Yelp
Best enchiladas ever! Little hole in the wall but cozy and friendly! Recommend! Can be hard to find. No big sign.
google avatar

Katrina A.

Yelp
Atmosphere, customer service, & drinks are a 10/10 no doubt about that what so ever, food is really great, but it's also not the best thing I've had ever, but it is very enjoyable and a great experience overall very glad to be here, will definitely have to come by again and try something different! :)

Yelp
Had a business lunch here. A little dark inside, but the food and service were both amazing!

Yelp
My husband and I were recently introduced to Dick's Hideaway and we've already been back since. A small spot tucked behind Luci's on 16th St. & Bethany Home, it has the relaxing vibe of a dark, cool tavern and is elevated with galvanized bronze tables, dim lighting, and votive candles. The staff is friendly, outgoing, and experienced. The menu is rustic New Mexican-- lots of green chile and high quality meats. Their breakfast burrito with Schriner's sausage and green sauce is mouth-watering. The coffee is also great. If you enjoy a hearty breakfast and an intimate space to beat the heat, this one's for you.
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
What an unusual place for like 6 different reasons. But the food was totally solid and it's a great place for drinks too (it's like half a bar). I enjoyed my carne adovada plate and the portions were pretty generous too. We also split some calamari which were great.
google avatar

Kalyn C.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect when my friend recommended we come here for dinner. Luckily, it was a very pleasant surprise. Hidden behind two wooden doors you step into a small quaint dim lit spot. We had a group of 5 so we had an L table in the back, which was across from another L table with a group of 3. During dinner we would chat back and forth with the other table, which was a fun communal feel vibe. For meals we got everything from the carne asada fries, the New Mexico enchiladas, the platter, the chicken and the adovado (probs spelling that wrong) and it was all incredible. We weren't really expecting it, so we were all shocked by how delicious this spot was. Portions were huge as well. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
What a fantastic little eatery! Dicks hideaway has it all! Fantastic food, excellent service and a great ambiance! From the outside it was a tad hard to find but once inside we were promptly greeted and seated and shortly after, served. French dip sandwich and the eggs Benedict did not didsapp

Yelp
Light another candle at the food altar. Because you've gone to Heaven. Walked past this place 4 times. Had to call and confirm where they were. There is no sign or any way of knowing a restaurant exists there. From the outside it looks like the door to a massage joint that went out of business. We finally found the "secret" door. Lol. Place is tiny and crowded and loud, with a great, dark, speakeasy kinda vibe. Brass tables and a funky, New Mexico-meets-a-1970's-alcoholic-bar vibe gives this place an inviting and unique atmosphere. The menu is eclectic. They says it's "New Mexico" cuisine, but I never had anything like this in Albuquerque. No matter, this place will blow you away. The flagship dish is the carne adovada. Never mind that the REAL spelling is "adobada" but maybe they want it that way. A HUGE hunk of the most tender pork is slow-cooked in a rich, smokey, achiote-infused, crazy-umami sauce. It reminds me of a braised short-rib dish but richer and more Mexican. It's to die for. One serving will easily feed two, so share away. The Stroganoff was the most incredible thing I think I've ever eaten. It's is NOTHING like regular beef stroganoff. First, it's more of a pasta dish, but the pasta is green-chili pasta, and it's so special that they have to have it prepared in Mexico and then flown in (not kidding). No, seriously, It gets sent from Mexico. It's this green, ultra tender, flavorful, delicate pasta, married with the juiciest tenderloin you've had. All of it is then simmered in a cream sauce that will make your tastebuds dance so much, you'll feel like Beyoncé at a twerking contest. It's epic. It blew me away such that I'm making my mouth water just thinking about it. I could go on for pages discussing all the amazing dishes. The cheeseburger is unmatched, the pork chop is an ode to tenderness and moist flavor. The steaks are hand-rubbed in camel scrotum (kidding. I made that part up). But the steaks are tender, flavorful, expertly cooked, and finished. They melt in your mouth. For dessert, I tried the flan because I always try the flan, and I gave it a 10 in my flan notes. This place would be a zinger for bringing a date. It's that good. My only qualm is they have a "communal table" which, for me, is like bathing with a stranger because I don't like people. but this place is so popular that, without a reservation, you'll have to sit there. So the place is small. But man is it worth it. A MUST try in Phoenix.
google avatar

Brianna S.

Yelp
Dicks hideaway is hands down my favorite New Mexican place! My favorite thing to order is the enchiladas. The brunch version comes with I believe 2 enchiladas, eggs on top, beans, potatoes, and a tortilla. The dinner comes with 3 enchiladas, beans, rice, tortilla and no eggs on top. You also can select three different fillings for your enchiladas and my personal fave is the pork. Service is pretty good but I've had a time where they forgot to put our order in for I think it was bacon wrapped shrimp (which are delicious btw) and they ended up taking that off our bill which I was pleased with. Brunch is insane! This place does not take reservations and typically we walk right in but be cautious about Sunday afternoons because we tried going once and the line was out the door. It's really dark in here and looks like it was an old house or something because of you go to their bathroom in the back of the restaurant there is like a shower in there haha but it's just a funky vibe that is really charming. I think it adds to the dining experience and it's the kinda place where I always hear people say yeah this place is our fave. It's definitely ours as well!

From the street, Dick's Hideaway is truly hidden away. We almost missed it. If a family member hadn't suggested my husband and I check it out, we may not have known found them. Inside, the establishment is split into two sections. The bar area is what guests see immediately. When we visited, the bar area was hopping. In stark contrast, the dining area was empty, with the exception of one other couple. We were told to sit at the large, copper, family sized table located in the middle of the dining area. Being just my husband and myself, we felt strang sitting alone at such a large table. Lighting gives the area a romantic feel. While waiting for our food, another couple was sat at the communal table. We chatted with them a bit. Menu is inspired by the Southwest. The restaurant menu is on par with steakhouses. We were not expecting such hearty portions. We ended up ordering far too much food. Food was well seasoned. Sweet potatoes were one of our favorite parts. They were an enjoyable mix of sweet and savory. Lots of dishes with warm melted cheese. Food is as comforting as it is filling. The fries with the carne asada fries were on the stale side. Being part restaurant, part bar, a full drink menu is available. We ordered a mule and a prickly pear margarita. Both were strong in flavor and potency. Happy hour menu is available daily. Food and drink deals are on the menu.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast! Great service and unique ambiance. Can't wait to return for more (when I'm hungry again)

Yelp
I love this place. Dark and cool, away from the bright hot Phoenix sun in summer. I'd live in this place if I lived close. This visit I had the Richardsons Combo. It comes with one Jalapeño Benedict smothered with jalapeño hollandaise sauce, two chicken enchiladas and a side of asparagus. It was breakfast so I opted for their beans. I will visit this establishment for years to come.

Yelp
Dick's Hideaway is my all time favorite restaurant! The service is phenomenal, the ambiance is amazing. I love the lighting and the seating arrangements. Brunch or dinner my go to is the New Mexico enchiladas and mimosa!

Yelp
I've been here twice now. Super cozy spot, and not tons of seating so it gets crowded quickly. The food is absolutely amazing. Service can sometimes be slowish but overall it's great and friendly.

Yelp
Well the food is amazing! The ambiance is very interesting as well. It's a good spot for some solid southwestern food!!!!

Yelp
Don't be intimidated by the prices, the portions are huge to make the price (meatloaf was $18) worth it. Can definitely be two meals. About everyone I saw had a to-go box after they were done with their meals. The brunch items are perfect to cure a hangover.

Yelp
My husband and I have been eating here for years and we live in Queen Creek. We would love to visit more often but it's a bit of a drive so we usually go for special occasions. The food is delicious and the service and staff are amazing! You just don't receive service like this anymore. We really enjoyed our time there tonight! Thank you!

Yelp
I'll try not to be a "Dick" (pun intended) when writing my review. Let me begin with a compliment. What a cool spot. It has a New Orleans speakeasy/prohibition vibe- dark, dim lit, and peculiar. Super cool. I was really feeling it- but that feeling didn't last long. I ordered the ribs as a appetizer and pork mole (no beans) as an entree. Unfortunately the ribs never came, but what was even more unfortunate was that my pork mole came with about 2lbs of beans on the plate. I didn't taste the mole sauce in the pork. Maybe it was on the beans? I was underwhelmed with my experience although I think the restaurant aesthetically is fantastic.

Yelp
Food is amazing!! Staff is great! LOVE this place. Dark, intimate atmosphere. One of our all time favorite restaurants/bar. Try the bacon wrapped shrimp and the sausage for sure. Meal portions are huge! Enjoy!!

Yelp
I am in the Phoenix area for only a few days so I asked some friends that used to live here for a recommendation for a good Mexican restaurant. They put me onto Dick's Hideaway. They said it was their all-time favorite place for Mexican food. It was a real find. Growing up in the area where Hatch chili is grown can spoil a person for good Mexican food elsewhere. The food here made me feel like I was back home. I have to say though that the best part was the people. Absolutely everyone, ... the owner, the wait staff, and even the other customers were super friendly. Top it off with great atmosphere and you have a gem of a place to eat. Aloha Dick! Mahalo Nui!!!

Yelp
First of, long wait line. So prepare to wait for your table outside with no bench of chairs to sit. Appetizer: calamari. I would say I make a better calamari. The sauce is just a sweet chili sauce (Vietnamese one) dumped on a cute little bowl. I would give 3 stars over 5. Then, the marijuana smokers who smoke near the entrance door that completely ruin my appetite. Cmon people! Not everyone enjoys the bad smells of marijuana. I am not anti pot, okay, I do eat the gummies once a blue moon, but smelling the nasty pot really kills my appetite. YUCK!!!! Knocking off 1 star for this already! Main dishes: garlic shrimp pasta-DON'T order this. Want garlic shrimp pasta? Go to great Italian restaurant. Yuck! The shrimp doesn't have any taste at all. I'm so used to Asian grocery store shrimp that is sweet and juicy. The shrimp they use here is more like American grocery store, big but tasteless!! New Mexican Platter: well the tamale is not bad. Spicy and lots of flavor. The chili relleno: well, I wouldn't say the best one I've ever had. Does have the spicy kick and lots of flavor, better than most American Mexican restaurants but not the super best. The chicken burro? Really? Did they just kill the chicken and take the breast and cook it? It tasted very chickeny! Yuck!!! Overall, I have a high expectation at this restaurant given from the high rating, now I question how people rank did their ranking???? Maybe rated it drunk? NEVER COME BACK!!! NOT WORTH WAITING FOR TABLE FOR 45 mins!!

Yelp
Food is always on point. Breakfast burrito with chorizo, AMAZING! Carne Adovada is perfectly tender and large enough for two to enjoy. Get extra tortillas!
