GREAT Scotch selection!!!
I came here one evening after making last minute plans to meet up for a drink with out-of-town friends. It was impossible to get a table in the main room, which was a shame because it looks so nice in there. Nonetheless, the main room was pretty loud, and all the seating was in regular chairs, so the couches in the hallway, for lack of better description, were an acceptable substitute.
Indeed, the couch seating is quite comfortable, and although it is technically a hallway - a fact that is occasionally punctuated by a chill breeze from the doorway around the corner and through the curtain during the winter months - also quite pleasantly decorated. As an added bonus/consolation prize, it also seems quieter than sitting in the main room.
I was extremely happy with the waiter we had. He was such a super friendly guy, so helpful, interesting to talk to about architecture and music and travel, and he was able to float among the three languages that my company and I threw at him (German, English, and Dutch). The proof of his rockstar-ness though, was in his ability to have fun and play with and wait on my friends' two children. Serious awesome points there.
But back to the real reason I'm writing this. This place serves up some legit and interesting cocktails (and has a truly great selection of Scotch whiskeys). I wouldn't ask for any of the old classics, meaning a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, but I was satisfied with my Dirty Old Bastard. And if you're looking to settle the score between Oban 14 year and Talisker 10 year, or run a broad comparison of Speysides and Islays, this is the place to do it.
Next time I go, I'll have to try something new because, as I may have mentioned, I got a little distracted and focused on the GREAT Scotch selection.
Quick tip: The main entrance to this place is on the back terrace.
