2 Days in Munich

Die Goldene Bar is a gem in Munich. Classy and elegant, with a touch of bohemian flair that makes it feel unique. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed evening. Definitely worth a visit if you appreciate great design, quality drinks, and an elevated yet laid-back vibe.

Very nice atmosphere, with couches where you can relax while talking to friends — dark and somewhat different. Drinks are quite pricey (€12.50 for a Campari). However, a free tea was included. On weekends it can get very crowded.

I was surprised to read bad reviews for this place. The atmosphere decoration and ambiance is one of a kind. Really unique place that I can recommend without any second thought. Polite staff that helped us be seated. Quick service nice menu with some also options for lunch and snacks. Whenever visiting Munich I will visit again

It's a great mix; situated at the back of the historic Haus der Kunst (architecture is a matter of taste) with direct access to the Englischer Garden and close to the Eisbach. The interior and atmosphere are just wonderful; historic with some modern details. They serve a wide range of cocktails (14,50€/10€ Non-alc.) that are live prepared behind the large bar. We had only cappuccino, which was of good quality and served quite quickly by the young, trendy service staff.

This restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere with a beautiful setting and a rich history. If you love great ambiance, you’ll enjoy it here. But if you’re looking for well-prepared drinks or service, you might be disappointed.

I have Been going there for years, usually the atmosphere is quieter than what’s in the pictures. It’s nice to go on a weekday to enjoy a drink. The price is a bit higher but you get to sit in a special place. It’s a bar you shouldn’t miss even if just for the look and not staying.

Cocktails were really good and the bartender paid attention to what I liked in terms of flavors, when he made this cocktail with corn liqueur. The grilled cheese sandwich was also awesome. I was there early evening on a Monday so it wasn't busy, but the space is really beautiful. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in Munich!

Google
One of my favorite bars for a wine evening/night with friends. The interior design itself is an art form, the walls and the lamp are originals from the time it was built. As part of the Haus der Kunst it’s like an extension of the art experience you get at the gallery.

Yelp
So I went here with expectations that were not met. It is completely my fault! I went for a peach bellini but peaches aren't in season in October. Lol. So I went to the menu and tried to order a couple of things that also weren't available. Unfortunately. But I did end up have a glass of champagne and really good BBQ ribs. And our server was really nice and attentive. We were there in early afternoon so we didnt get to enjoy the night vibes, but the bar is really pretty.

Yelp
Gorgeous bar in an old museum in town. They have a large outdoor area with comfy chairs and probably seating for 40-50 people. The interior here is grand and beautiful. It's a huge bar with massive high decorative ceilings and polished wood throughout. It was my first time here and been meaning to come here for some time. The drinks list is huge and there is also a food and snacks menu. There is at least 30 or more cocktails to choose from and I had the Rastrafaria which is a rum based cocktail presenter nicely and tasted quite ok. It's no Schumann's or Pussers class but a nice cocktail nevertheless. It's fairly pricey for what it is. Service was good and there was nice music playing. I would happily come here again. A nice place to meet friends for a drink or a meal and chill out on a warm or cold day.

Yelp
Stumbled across this bar on our way to watch the surfers at Eishbachwelle. What's not to like about having a nice cold drink on the terrace? Yes, agreed that it is pricey (2 bottles of beer for 7 euros) but I guess the €€€ should warn you if you are finding a place through Yelp. You get your choice of "sexy" service or self service. We went for the self this time. Ordered two beers and plotted ourselves down on a modern looking bench. Good place for a refuel break if you are spending your afternoon at Englischer Garden!

Yelp
Second time here and the food is delicious and hot! After surfing the Eisbach, I needed a place to refuel and warm up after a February session. Although they initially frowned on a place to store my surfboard, I found an out of the way spot where I could still keep an eye on it from the bar. The atmosphere is the best! Huge historic golden maps. As for the food: meatballs steaming hot! The chicken Parmesan soup hit the spot and the pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut was 5 stars! Nice staff too!

Yelp
The Fancy Golden Bar. One of my friends invited me there during a cold winter evening, praising it in a multitude of colorful word. As a good bar adventurer, I thought to myself: that's a mission for me! First of all, I didn't know the place, also, it's quite hidden. You will find it just behind the "Hause der Kunst". The restaurant was quite busy when we entered and the welcome was quite cold. It felt like if the waiter was hesitating to give us a table... We went there only for a drink. So we ordered wine, which was good. We also had the chance to admire the decor, which is really amazing, as you can see on the pictures. It's perfectly vintage! The price for drinks and food seem fair. That night we had the chance to hear a Dj play a set, but unfortunately the music was really loud and the sound system quite poor. Moreover, the place started to be very crowded (lots of people standing at the bar) and louder of course: It felt a bit like people are coming here to see and be seen. So you probably understood that my opinion about this bar is a bit mixed... maybe, I should give it another try.

Yelp
GREAT Scotch selection!!! I came here one evening after making last minute plans to meet up for a drink with out-of-town friends. It was impossible to get a table in the main room, which was a shame because it looks so nice in there. Nonetheless, the main room was pretty loud, and all the seating was in regular chairs, so the couches in the hallway, for lack of better description, were an acceptable substitute. Indeed, the couch seating is quite comfortable, and although it is technically a hallway - a fact that is occasionally punctuated by a chill breeze from the doorway around the corner and through the curtain during the winter months - also quite pleasantly decorated. As an added bonus/consolation prize, it also seems quieter than sitting in the main room. I was extremely happy with the waiter we had. He was such a super friendly guy, so helpful, interesting to talk to about architecture and music and travel, and he was able to float among the three languages that my company and I threw at him (German, English, and Dutch). The proof of his rockstar-ness though, was in his ability to have fun and play with and wait on my friends' two children. Serious awesome points there. But back to the real reason I'm writing this. This place serves up some legit and interesting cocktails (and has a truly great selection of Scotch whiskeys). I wouldn't ask for any of the old classics, meaning a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, but I was satisfied with my Dirty Old Bastard. And if you're looking to settle the score between Oban 14 year and Talisker 10 year, or run a broad comparison of Speysides and Islays, this is the place to do it. Next time I go, I'll have to try something new because, as I may have mentioned, I got a little distracted and focused on the GREAT Scotch selection. Quick tip: The main entrance to this place is on the back terrace.

Yelp
When I entered the bar I thought WOW, this place really is different from all other provincial bars in Munich and it can compete with cool bars in any world's metropolis. The place was full and we were a group of 6 people but we only found 5 chairs. So we grabbed one from the terrace, only to be immediately and rudely told off, that we can´t move things around and we should bring the chair back (for no apparent reason, since there were plenty of empty chairs outside and enough space inside). So typical Munich again.. Prices are high, I had the most expensive and smallest Negroni in my life (12 Euros for a mini glass)

Yelp
The "Goldene Bar" is no just opened during regular "bar opening hours". Therefore the rating should be diverted into the different "operation times": - cafe (good, kids welcome) - restaurant (OK) - bar (good, with a large selection of alcohol) It might be rather surprising to US customers to find kids in the afternoon within the location, while a large alcohol selection is displayed in the shelves. The location itself goes along with the old building (museum / Haus der Kunst) in which it is located. The park side patio provides during the summer time a great ambient and during the winter time the "scenic" smoking area. IMHO a good place for a coffee or a cocktail while being able to chat with friends...

Yelp
Quite a place. The cocktails are delicious. The service is stunning. I had nothing specific on my mind so asked to surprise me. Both drinks were spectacular (unfortunately I don't remember the names, but you can see the photos attached). Overall the place is trendy: nice people, smooth music. Totally recommend.

Yelp
Such a beautiful spot on the edge of the Englischer Garten. Really delicious food (we ordered the Burrata w/ Edamame and Plum Cake), wonderful liquor selection, and spectacular service. Their house made ginger ale was also delicious - more like a ginger juice, but still crazy delicious. Our server was very helpful, pointing out items that accommodated a vegetarian.

Yelp
Exceptional decor inside, and a great terrace outside. Extensive, creative cocktail list. Beer served in chilled Krugen. The history of the place is fascinating, too.

Yelp
Maybe I shouldn't give four stars to a place after having a cappuccino and a plate of hummus and bread but I took to this place, the cappuccino was quite good and the hummus plate was tasty. The unusual decor lives up to the name of the bar and is apparently virtually unchanged since Haus der Kunst opened in 1937. The wifey reports the back patio is great in the summer. So I will go out on a limb and give them these four stars and make sure to come back to hang out with the ghosts of US officers and infamous people, and validate those stars! :)

Yelp
Donnerstags eine der aktuell besten Bars Münchens: Weltklasse Cocktails, gutes Essen und vor allem spitzen Musik vom DJ. Im Sommer: Terrasse zum Englischen Garten
