From the moment you set eyes on this delightfully designed hotel in its beautiful mountaintop surroundings with rolling lawns around it, you know this is going to be a great experience. |Entering the wooden lobby of the hotel, you notice the clever mix of old-fashioned and modern touches, and the delicious smell in the lobby already subtly reminds you of the herbal sauna below the hotel.|The public spaces and the rooms are well laid out and with great views. Rooms provide not only bathrobes and a pool bag but even a backpack for your walks around the hotel. Service is extremely friendly and attentive throughout the hotel.|The pool and sauna area are perfectly placed and spaced, exuding an easygoing and homely feeling but at the same time being quite stylish. The areas are kept very clean and it seems that at every corner there is a little tap where you can take water or tea.|Opening times of the restaurant and the sauna are perfect. Breakfast, lunch and sauna times are longer than in similar hotels, so you can make the most of your stay, right until the moment of departure. |It really feels like every detail was carefully considered and designed to give you a feeling of wellbeing and comfort, but in a very laid-back, simple and never ostentatious or pushy manner.|Basically this hotel is a destination in itself, and makes a perfect combination with some days of hiking or gravel biking in summer, or ski/langlauf in winter. We originally planned to do a lot of road biking as well, but I can't recommend that, there are way too many motorbikes and German car drivers around who treat the roads like a race track. The hotel rents out electric fat wheel bikes which are perfect for exploring the surrounding woods.|One final thing to notice is that this whole affair is very German, in terms of the guests, dirndl outfits worn by staff, and also the food. German food means some very good homemade things (good bread, lots of berry compotes and juices, nice soups, good fish, good vegetarian options..) but it sometimes also means quite awkward combinations when they try to incorporate foreign cuisines (e.g. burrata with mushrooms; risotto with plum jam, Dutch herring with bacon...). But in the relaxed and happy frame of mind that Die Halde will put you in, you will easily forgive this. |In sum, a very positive and recommendable experience.
