"Chef Volker Lahn continues the family tradition in the kitchen at Die Krone. The cosy Baden setting of the dining rooms is matched by good local Baden cooking. The seasonal fare is available in the form of a set menu or à la carte." - Michelin Inspector

Another great stay at the Hotel Krone. Our favourite hotel in Staufen and the one we keep returning to. Booked direct with the hotel. The welcome at this family run hotel is first class. We were there at a very busy time (wine festival) but nothing was too much trouble. Top breakfast each morning.

We stayed one night in this lovely hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. We parked about a block away in a lot and easily pulled our luggage to the hotel, as there is a smooth sidewalk. Our room at Die Krone was comfortable, clean, quiet and a nice size (as was the bathroom). The staff spoke limited English but were friendly and very helpful. The weather was incredibly hot and they brought us a fan, which really helped. They also let us order dinner even though we arrived in the evening. Dinner was delectable and we enjoyed the delicious food while sitting at an open window, enjoying the warm evening weather. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and we had the breakfast room to ourselves.|Staufen is such a peaceful and picturesque town and it was a real delight to explore the area away from the tourist crowds. It was a perfect overnight stop on our way to Switzerland. We definitely recommend staying at Die Krone and hope to be back again soon for a longer visit.

The hotel is within a pedestrian only zone, but one can drive to the hotel. There is limited and tight on-site parking. There is no reception desk. To enter one presses a button and somebody comes to the door. Check in was easy and the host accommodating. We gave our name and were given a key good for the room and hotel front door. The room furnishings were showing signs of wear and age. The room itself was fine, but there was no safe. There was a door that opened to a terrace shared by three rooms. For ventilation, we left the door open at the top since there wasn’t air conditioning. The only issue is when there are smokers on the terrace you can smell it. There is a coffee and tea maker in the hallway for communal use. Breakfast was typical European with meats, cheeses, fruits, cereal, juices, coffee. Eggs to order could be requested.

We had a great stay here. The room was spacious. Although the bathroom is very small, it was fine. The whole hotel is extremely clean. Owners are very friendly. Restaurant is great. The room had a balcony with a beautiful view of the castle. There is no A/C but they provided a fan in the room, which helped. Great location in the center of town. The beds are pretty firm so keep that in mind.

Unfortunately, we arrived at this hotel during some sort of festival and there was absolutely no parking at the hotel or nearby. It was wall to wall people and many of the restaurants were overcrowded. The room overlooks the back courtyard with only two parking places even if we had been able to drive in. Breakfast was sparse but had the essential standard items. So much for a quiet little town.

We had a beautiful 4 course vegetarian dinner. Tasted very good, especially the dessert and main dish of ravioli (home made) with cantharellen and krauterschaum! Very nice service, though not informing what is on your plate when serving. View to the Haupstrasse was nice, apart from the trash in the middle of the street that was to be collected early in the morning. We will go there again for dinner!

The hotel was a lovely place in an amazing village. |Staufen is a characteristic village where you can walk and enjoy the view and the silence.|The Die Krone hotel is in the center, the room was big and we had a little balcony where we could enjoy the nice weather.|The staff was really nice and even if they didn’t speak English they did their best to help us with anything.

We loved this hotel and little town. We wish we had stayed just one night. We had a wonderful meal in the hotel right after we arrived. We drove here and was able to have a parking lot right in the back of the hotel. The space is limited so you need to reserve early and make sure. Otherwise, it is possible to park in a public parking somewhere else. The kids sharing a room of 3 bed with a cute little balcony with a view to the town. The staff were very friendly. On next day we are leaving, we found a bakery store and bought some bakery and Black Forest cake to enjoy on the following trip. We asked if they have some recycled utensil we can use on the road, they managed to find some and ran to us while we almost drove out. This is also a very lovely town and friendly people. We definitely will visit and stay longer if we have a chance in the future.

Yelp
Horrible experience, but I guess this is what's called "German hospitality"!?!? We went to the restaurant to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. I ordered a Lemongrass soup that was on the menu, deliberately and desperately looking for a dish without dairy. Menu indicated none of this btw (which is a pretty standard practice these days pretty much anywhere else due to high allergens) and getting attention from of our server to be able to ask was really at the bare minimum. I made an educated guess. Turns out, the exotic food that I ordered (which is made with coconut milk in any other place) is made with rich cream in this joint, so I asked the server NICELY if I could have my meal replaced as I was unable to consume dairy. What followed next, I've never experienced in my entire life at a restaurant. I was SCOLDED in a raised voice for not letting her know about my dairy-free needs. Not only that, but my mother in law had to pay for both meals, because the restaurant and the server couldn't do their jobs. If I had a severe enough allergy, I could have ended up in hospital, or worse, dead! This practice MUST change before anyone gets seriously sick or hurt but as far as the overcharge goes, I guess I can forget about getting a refund for an unconsumed meal... Your business wouldn't survive a day in Canada like this.

Yelp
Really nice place, and reasonably priced, too. As others have noted, parking behind the hotel involves going really slowly through a passageway to avoid scraping your vehicle. I did it in a (relatively large by European standards) Ford Cuga - so, fun, but not impossible. The hotel itself is very clean, and nicely kept. The breakfast was the usual assortment of coffee, juice, fruits, rolls, and so forth - everything was extraordinarily good! Really a high point. The owners are quite gracious - they understood (and tolerated) my broken German. Really a great stay here, and highly recommended.

Yelp
Three adults stayed here in April 2013 at the recommendation of travel blogger Rick Steves. We had two rooms: room 5 (2nd floor) had a double bed with private bathroom and shower, and a shared balcony that had a partial view of the castle. It is on the back side of the hotel so very quiet. Be sure to use the German rouladens (like garage doors that cover the window) to block out sun and any noise. Room 6 (3rd floor) also has a double bed but with a private bath that has a bathtub/shower combo. It is on the front of the hotel overlooking the Main Street. With the rouladens down it is very quiet. Both rooms were very clean, comfortable beds, plenty of towels, hair dryer and a mini fridge. The hotel has a Michelin rated restaurant on site that we ate at one night. The menu is not in English and wait staff spoke little English so it was difficult to order. We were not overly impressed with our meals here, and the meat one of us had was very tough. We ate at nearby Kornhaus for dinner the 2nd night and were very happy. Breakfast however was good with breads and cruisants, jams, boiled eggs, cheese, meats, cereal, yogurt, etc. Parking is available onsite but VERY difficult to access...you have to back in through a windy courtyard with lots of blind spots. Ask the owner to park it for you. We had a fighter pilot driving us so were able to do it on our own, but he also had to make a few attempts at it. They also offer free Wifi but its only accessible on one device at a time, and only in your room. Would stay here again, but would eat dinner some place else. Be sure to pick up dessert from Cafe Decker and take back to your room to enjoy with the view of the castle.

Yelp
A top shelf restaurant with a limited menu. Check their regional and gastronie pre fix menus where they really shine. Save room for desserts. If you just want schnitzel, there are better places.
