Google
I was exceedingly disappointed with DiFiore's Ice Cream. I went for lunch on a visit to Pittsburgh, and our group ordered a Club Sandwich, a Fish Sandwich, and Perogies. To start, the Perogies were undercooked and were very soggy. The Club Sandwich was average but was exceedingly overpriced. The fish sandwich was good, but the bun was way too small, and the sandwich was sizzling hot and burned my tongue. This would not be a problem if I was warned about its heat, but I was not. And going back to the pricing, the pricing was ridiculous for the food we were being served. When talking about the service, I have to separate the wonderful lady who was taking our order and the insolent owner. The lady who took our order was kind, but we were being glared at by the owner in the background the whole time during our order at the side window. When we were full, I ended up going back to the window to get a box, but after repedly trying to call for the lady, I overheard her being yelled at by the rude owner. There are also some very odd policies there that seem extremely outdate. The two in question are that there is a storefront, but apparently, it is closed to the public, and you are only allowed to use the side window. The second is a cash only policy. This just is not convenient, especially in 2024, when some people only pay using digital cards on their phone. If you care about yourself and the employees of this shop, do not go here and support its crooked owner.

The Owner Todd is Too Notch!!! From the food to the sweets to the hospitality! 5 Stars!! Can't say enough, great place for food and 🍨🍦

Just Jazzmine

Google
Extremely overpriced and unfortunately, not worth it in my opinion. The root beer float I got was all ice cream and no root beer. They also take cash only and do not offer receipts. There's only outdoor seating, which can be inconvenient when a homeless person is loitering around, or a bratty child is screaming their head off.

Google
We used to go here frequently when we were staying in the neighborhood. Service is never stellar but used to be okay. Today the service was Doug’s and the ice cream was flavorless and extremely overpriced. The soft serve was melting before we were even handed the ice cream and the whole thing fell apart so fast and it’s not even hot out. The flavor was barely there and we ended up paying over $15 for 2 small cones. Not worth it. Just go to Page’s. Much better ice cream and service.

Maranda Johnson

Google
The service/professionalism was horrible. The guy working the window was a complete jerk. Cash only, you can't come inside, and the menu is reduced to a handful of flavors. The sign said a medium was $5.50 but we were charged $8.50. Not worth stopping by.

dimah zidan

Google
Refreshing classic ice cream. The experience reminded me of my hometown (Amman) when we used to buy ice cream and walk on the mountain top, watching the city lights.

Nikki Burfield

Google
Never got past the door. Heard the N-Word and “Democrats”. Being 2 days post election I figured it out quickly. The old white guy has never been kind to me on several occasions getting ice cream. GROSS

Wireman Neo

Google
Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Bar none. And I've been around. Regarding the older man there, he was a bit short, but it didn't bother me in any way, shape, or form. Would go back. Again and again and again. Edit: After I originally shared this review, I did, in fact, go back. I complimented the older gentleman's ice cream and upon hearing what I had to say, he lit right up, smiles and all.

Yelp
We were in Mount Washington and stopped by on a late October evening upon seeing they were open. Their menu noted that the kitchen was closed but they still had ice cream. We quickly found out that this was their second to last day of the season and all they had was soft serve, but the owner promised us that it was the best serve.I am absolutely an ice cream snob so was skeptical of that statement, but it is really, really good soft serve! Very creamy and with almost the texture of a custard. I can't speak to the food items, the other ice cream items or the ambience, particularly the great view I hear you can get from the outdoor terrace as seating was closed. My experience of this spot was as a no-frills, walk-up window, and keep in mind that it is cash only. But that is true of so many good little ice cream spots. Nice people and the ice cream is legit. I'll be back next season!

Yelp
An easy walk about half a block up Shiloh St from the overlook next to the top of the Monongahela Incline, we found a little ice cream shop. They have tasty ice cream flavors, rich shakes, and a few sandwiches, and you can get coffee next door. They have a little enclosed patio out back with umbrella-ed tables. We had shakes and ice cream and sat out back in the fresh air. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It was a nice break in the day

Sandy C.

Yelp
Visiting from San Diego and the ice cream was a delicious treat on this hot day! The peaches flavor and the caramel pretzel flavors were both great!

Jackson W.

Yelp
Pretty standard ice cream shop up in Mt. Washington. It's steps away when you get to the top of the Monongahela incline. So it's very much a tourist trap and the prices reflect that.

Claudia E.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop in an ultra great location! We were taking my in-laws around the city, and what's a tour of Pittsburgh without stopping at Mt. Washington to take in the beautiful views of our beautiful city? It was a very hot day and the sun was beating down on us. Everyone had ice cream on their minds, and luckily Difiore's was right there for us. We all got something different, as the menu had a wide range of options to choose from, even beyond ice cream. They have a cute little patio area in the back where you can enjoy your treats, and they have sun shades too which came in very clutch. The only thing is that they're cash only, so make sure you can pay before they scoop the ice creams out and you're fumbling to find cash somewhere. Overall pretty good experience! Nice refreshing treats with a scenic view right nearby.

Russell R.

Yelp
Great place with friendly owners. We tried several items and were all good. They offer baked goods, ice cream and regular food items.

Gina D.

Yelp
So excited to find out they had my childhood favorite, Cherry Dip soft serve! Get a double dip for extra goodness!

Chrisy J.

Yelp
Coconut Almond and Carmel Latte...Smooth, creamy and DELICIOUS! I will definitely be going back for more!

Karon H.

Yelp
I was very disappointed; the soft serve had little taste. It was overpriced for what we received.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
This was some of the tastiest ice cream I've ever had, and I absolutely loved the waffle cone bowl. I do, however, agree with another reviewer who said that the guy at the window was grouchy. I don't know why a business would act like that when it's the customers who keep the business going. But anyway, delicious ice cream! The patio in the back was quite nice, as there were patio umbrellas to block the sun a bit. It is annoying that it's cash only, but oh well.

Aparna B.

Yelp
While doing a walking tour of Pittsburgh, we found ourselves in Mt. Washington and walked from one incline to the other. On our walk to the other incline, we stopped into the shops near there and got some shaved ice since it was hotter than Hades outside. This is a pretty standard ice cream stand. Nothing super special if I'm being honest. Maybe I should have gotten ice cream versus the shaved ice because there was so much syrup on the ice that it was like drinking a cup of sugar. I didn't even finish mine and it was so expensive for what you got. I wouldn't pay almost $4 for a cup of sugar again.

Janelle W.

Yelp
Fun ice cream stand in Shiloh Food court. Cash only though. HUGE portions. Too bad we don't all like the same because we easily could have shared one brownie sundae btwn 3 people. We were recommended to come here by Leah, our waitress at Steel Mill Saloon. It was a fun mile walk btwn the two of sightseeing houses and the waterfront. There's patio seating on the side of the building

Mary W.

Yelp
Had a delightful visit with my grandchildren who were visiting from Virginia Had a great lunch followed by delicious ice cream. And the fresh squeezed lemonade was exceptional.

Daisy O.

Yelp
Have been here to get mediocre ice cream in the past because family was in town and wanted to show them the mount. At the time the server who I now know is the owner was incredibly rude. We didnt think much of it because it was late and we figured he may have had a rough day. Fast forward a few months, spring has sprung and I wanted to get some ice cream on the first hot day. Was greeted by a friendly enough lady who gave me two of the hand dipped to taste. I wasn't really feeling them but asked to taste another and was told "we only give two samples". I offered to pay for additional samples and she asked this owner again who yells harshly "NO SAMPLES". At that point I take a gamble on what I think is a chocolate chip vanilla ice cream that ends up being a chocolate ice cream which is the only flavor I cannot stand. I look at it and confirm that it's the flavor I ordered and she says yes and hands it to me. I would have known this was a chocolate ice cream if they had permitted an additional sample I was willing to pay for. At that point I paid for the ice cream and promptly threw it in the trash. It wasn't even about the money it's about the service. Ice cream is supposed to be pleasant and some how this establishment missed the memo. Spend your $7.00 at Rite Aid and go home with a pint and at least hopefully less hostility.

Anqi H.

Yelp
I come here every time a friend comes to visit Pittsburgh. It's a nice stop before walking down Grandview ave. I like that you don't have to go inside to place an order. Their white chocolate raspberry fudge is so good!

Eugene A.

Yelp
It's rare that I write such a poor review, but this place is very deserving. The guy (owner?) was so ignorant as if we were interrupting his nap. Prices were ridiculous and serving size (one scoop in waffle cone) small. Total tourist trap.

Maranda W.

Yelp
This place is not worth it. The ice cream isn't amazing enough to make me want to come back here- it just happens to be the only ice cream spot in the area and they jack up the prices because they know it. The menu is pretty difficult to understand and somehow my waffle cone with two scoops came out to $9. I've never paid that much for two scoops in a waffle cone. The person ringing us up was also pretty rude for us so I don't feel the need to ever go here again.

Jake R.

Yelp
2 stars is about right. Overly expensive, low quality food that tastes ok and is made very badly.

Emily K.

Yelp
This little ice cream shop is one of my favorite places to go on a hot night in Pittsburgh! Quick service and great ice cream options!

Helena V.

Yelp
Great ice cream, generous servings. Best fish sandwich I've had in Pittsburgh. My dog always gets a treat, too!

Kevin O.

Yelp
What a great place to enjoy a fresh scoop of ice cream or if you are in a desperate need of a cup of joe after hours. The owners are fantastic, they opened up their coffee shop after hours just to make one large for someone who was jonesing a good brew! Much appreciated and delish!

Charley B.

Yelp
This is a nice little snack shop on top of Mt. Washington. It isn't fancy, but does well with the basics. You can choose from a list of hard and soft serve ice cream, cones and toppings. There's a small sandwich and snack menu as well. I went with a couple of scoops of cookies and cream on a waffle cone which hit the spot. The prices were probably a little higher then they should have been, but this is a tourist area and it didn't really hurt the mood. There's a small amount of seating out front and a patio in back, but I didn't use it. I ended up walking down towards the edge of the ridge and found a shaded bench that offered up a good view of downtown Pittsburgh.

Arlene M.

Yelp
I was actually on my way home to grab some ice cream out of the freezer when I saw this place. The sign on the door said to go around to the side to order. Cash only. That's never a problem with me but they do have an ATM close by if you need it. Since it was hot there was a line but it move fairly quickly. Most of the ice cream they serve is soft serve but they carry Dean's ice cream if you prefer the traditional. I knew there would be no way I could sample anything since people were behind me but I was blown away by the price. $3.50 for one scoop? Two would have run me over $6.00! Mind you, I am willing to spend if I find what I am buying worthwhile but this wasn't the case here. I ordered one scoop of mint chocolate chip in a cup. It tasted just like ice cream you would get out of a grocery store. They have covered seating in the back to help protect you from the sun. They sell food here and your usual ice cream flair but it seems to be the only one here in Mt. Washington. Since I was in the area on other business I had already paid my metered parking but I definitely would not go out of the way for this place when there are so many others that serve better quality. Too expensive for meh ice cream.

Dustin S.

Yelp
The service is bad from the start! The first 3 flavors of ice cream my family orders they were all out. They were on the board and when you have young ones that take forever to read all the flavors it's a bit of a let down. After I was told they were all out of the 3rd flavor I was told "why don't you try try ordering something we have" by the very rude guy taking orders. I pointed out that all 3 flavors that the girls wanted were on the board and then he stuck his head out and saw then and took them down and said "and now they are not"! I don't know if he was trying to be funny but it came off as very rude. I would have walked away then but I promised my visiting family ice cream and unlike this store I am a man of my word. I was very frustrated but I wanted to put this all behind me. But wait there is more! I was given the wrong change back when I paid! They are cash only and I only had 20 bucks so my father gave me another 20 so I could pay for it all. I was given the change back for 30 dollars and not 40. I refused to leave the window because the man said I gave him 30 when 3 people knew I gave him 40 dollars. I was given the rest of my change and told "take it". If you want to get treated badly, for a below average product, over priced, and get ripped off then by all means take a chance here and you might not get the trifecta like I did, but if you value your self respect and your money go somewhere els it's just not with it.

David B.

Yelp
Friendly ice cream shop with great ice cream and a smile. Perfectly located in proximity to Pittsburgh's most breathtaking view, you can walk along Grandview as you enjoy your frozen treat. I stopped here last night to borrow a chair, after my request was turned down by 3 other establishments. They smiled and instantly said yes. Their friendly concern to help was remarkable, and I will continue to support them with my business.

Jim H.

Yelp
Ordered an ice cream cone and a soft serve. The man at the window who served me gave me change from a $20 for what was supposed to be a $7.50 tab. I put the money in my pocket, and moved out of line. I went to put my change away a few minutes later and found he shorted me $3. Went back to the window, explained the situation, and the same guy told me "I doubt it", and then "hey, I've been up since 6 am". Pretty awful attitude. Pretty poor customer service. And quite frankly, pretty ordinary ice cream and soft serve.

Kaysie F.

Yelp
Perfect spot on a nice day. Grab some ice cream and sit out back or take a walk down Grandview and overlook the city (half a block walk). Super friendly staff. I wanted to sample the blackberry frozen yogurt, but unfortunately it comes out too fast of the machine for a sample spoon. But I ordered 2 scoops of the traditional scoops and the gentleman gave me a little swirl of the frozen yogurt on top to give it a try (it was tasty, I would definitely order it on my next trip). Nice selection between food and ice cream for a small shop. I tried the pretzel nuggets and cheese- right on point, little crisp on the outside, super soft inside. Would recommend that as well!

Tina W.

Yelp
First and last time I will ever go here. My daughter's softball game got cancelled so we just wanted to take her to get some ice cream and go to the overlook. We stopped here and first, they don't give out samples. Now second, I ordered my daughter a $7 vanilla milkshake and on the way to the overlook, she dropped it, literally took two sips. I went back and told this MISERABLE older women and she looked at me and said "well that's not my fault, I can't go e you a new one but you can buy another". I've never EVER been to a place that wouldn't replace a child's ice cream if they dropped it. I know my daughter did it but to be so rude and give me attitude was uncalled for. Could have at least offered me a discount on another as I had just spent almost $20 on a milkshake and two cones. That older lady needs an attitude adjustment. I'll be sure to tell everyone I know to NEVER go there. Thanks for showing me your true colors.

Ingrid S.

Yelp
This totally IS a tourist trap. There are signs down the block as soon as you get off the monorail thing to go up the Mountain in Pittsburgh. Though, I was a tourist for the day in a not so touristy town. Also, I LOVE ice cream and there aren't that many places to go to up here. Kind of a cute mom and pop shop. You can tell its been around for ages. At least since my sister was in college. ha. They only have 4 or 5 soft serve flavors and then a few scoop ice creams. I settled for a mix of chocolate/vanilla because the only other flavors were apple pie and French vanilla bean and neither jumped out at me. My sister got Moose tracks ice cream. Much more decadent. She also made sure to slather on some cherry sauce because she's weird like that. Though, the combination of her concoction actually was pretty great and tasted like a cherry Garcia sundae with peanut butter cups. Crazy. My small waffle cone was about 8 times the size I expected for its value and I appreciate it. There's no where to sit really inside so take your cones to go and enjoy that fresh Mountain air!

Cait C.

Yelp
The middle-to-older age man who works the counter is a total dick. I brought my little brother up here while I visiting family during the first week of June. We walked up to the window and gave this guy a friendly greeting, "Hi, how are you?" and he just looked at us. Uh...ok. whatever. So my brother ordered a vanilla cone with sprinkles. This guy never asked what kind of cone, just disappeared and came back with a cake cone. My brother had wanted a waffle cone. Ok, no biggie. Instead of making a big deal, I just said I'll eat the cake cone, and he got him his waffle cone. $10.50. wtf?? I live in LA, and even I think that is ridiculous. But whatever. So we go to leave, and my brother (ever the polite teenager) said, "Have a nice day!" And again, this miserable fuck just looks at us. Get some social and customer service skills, prick. PS, your ice cream sucks.

Douglas W.

Yelp
Stopped for ice cream after a ride on the incline. It was a little pricey but good. It was a sunny hot day and the tables with umbrellas provided some shade for enjoying our treat

Dave B.

Yelp
I had the peanut butter cup, and the chocolate knocked me back 5 feet. I had a taste of my friend's cinnamon and it was almost as good. Best ice cream I've ever eaten.

Yuanyuan F.

Yelp
Well, it's a touristy ice cream shop with average ice cream. The line can be long and the price is high. If you happen to visit Mt Washington, it may not be a bad idea to grab ice cream here. However, for locals, go to Millie's for specialty ice cream and Page Dairy Mart for soft serve.

Maya K.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, but rude service! The website said they closed at 11pm so we got there around 9:50pm expecting it to be open for another hour. When we got there we saw it was cash only and asked the woman at the cashier where the closest ATM is, she gave us a very rude response and blew us off. The other man there told us where the nearest ATM is which is where we went to withdraw cash. The ice cream was very good--slightly overpriced in my opinion though.

Iyahbo O.

Yelp
Me my boyfriend and my brother, just wanted to get some ice cream and go to mount Washington on this nice day. We started to order and the employees were very rude from the start, not sure if it's discrimination or racism because none of the customers after us were treated the same. I do not recommend this place the ice cream is bad and the service is disappointing. They also tried to say we did not pay for our ice cream, even though we very well did. ( one of the employees also threw a quarter to us as our change even though he owed us $2 dollars in change )

Melissa M.

Yelp
Great little place with yummy ice cream treats. Our group had the Oreo Churro Delite, it was huge and delicious. Also had soft serve and regular ice cream, all were so good!

Tresa G.

Yelp
This is a great local coffee shop/ ice cream/eatery. Todd the owner is GREAT! A must visit!

Derek R.

Yelp
Soft serve ice cream was whipped with lots of air . Small cone was $3.00. Decent flavor, but it's just soft serve. I got a cyclone ( similar to blizzard). There was very little peanut butter cup mixed in... Disappointing. Mostly a tourist place, high prices, basic food....high profit.

Kyler W.

Yelp
0/5 Stars. Other people have been letting others know to stay away from this place for a good reason. The service is garbage... I am normally not so blunt but could not help myself. I unfortunately have been to this location on more than one occasion due to out of town guests all wanting an ice cream cone and not listening to my warnings. Every time we leave, we talk about how rude the counter staff is. The last time one I was there, one of the people in our party (not me I will not give this establishment $.01 of my money) asked for vanilla ice cream cone. They received a dish. When they let the server know that they had asked for a cone the server refused to fix the order due to them being "too busy". The solution was an empty cone shoved at the person in our party through the window. They were told to place the cone on-top of the ice cream in the dish. Seriously... Lets be real. We are ordering ice cream hear not dealing with a life or death situation if they had taken the time to correct the error maybe, I would have seen that each time I had been there previously was maybe a bad day. Instead, they went on to prove that the staff/ ownership doesn't care what the experience is like as long as they are raking in your $$$. Stay away folks. There are more reviews below that will tell similar stories. To the owners, If you read this post. Please do something about your service.

Savannah R.

Yelp
I was just here tonight and they are most certainly open so I'm not sure why this page says closed. Really good ice cream. I've been here a couple times and they have great options. They also have food options as well if you're feeling something other than ice cream, but it's def a good place to check out in the summer. Grab a cone and take a walk on grandview! Even though it's an outside pick up window, you must wear a mask when ordering. I love their cyclones. I always get a small and it's definitely enough for me. I saw someone get a large once and it was huge. I will say even though the ice cream is great, the prices aren't my favorite. My friend got a small cone and it was $4. My cyclone was almost $6. I'm not sure if these are their normal prices or they up'd them to covid rates but it does seem a little pricey compared to other ice cream shops and for the amount of ice cream you get. Great service and a decent place to check out on mount Washington.

Gwendolyn A N.

Yelp
The ice cream was okay, but just know you are paying for the views of the skyline not just the ice cream. It is very pricey for ice cream, no samples are provided, and service is short and to the point. Probably wasn't worth the money.

C. E.

Yelp
This is the 2nd weekend in a row that we tried to get ice cream and you were closed! All your social media says open until 10:00 pm. Last Saturday we took the incline up with my family (8 people) at 8:30 pm and was very disappointed that you were closed. Today my husband and I decided to try again. Took the incline up and at 6:15 pm...CLOSED AGAIN!!! Update your social media!!! It's not that difficult!

Will R.

Yelp
Totally awesome place!! The brownie delight changed my life!!! We added peanut butter topping which took it to the next level!!

Steve Y.

Yelp
This place is a total rip off. $9 bucks for 2 ice cream cones- soft serve. For a cash only joint, this place is a total waste. PS- the service sucks badly. The guy working is either pissed off at the world or had the worst day in his life. Do not go here. Save your hard-earned cash.

Julie K.

Yelp
Went to dinner across the street at Shiloh Grill (amazing food there btw) and decided to get ice cream here. Guy through the side walk up 'window' was extremely rude and seemed very putout to have to take our order. Ice cream was the same as we could of had purchased anywhere (vanilla cone, twist cone and candy bar mashup cone). Hubby like his candy bar mash up, only reason this place even got a star... Do not bother going here, over priced average ice cream served by a very rude man

Hannah C.

Yelp
Ice cream is pretty good, but pricey. Also, they don't accept cards so make sure you have cash on hand.

Patty J.

Yelp
If I could give this place a minus 1 star I would. This place has the worst customer service I have ever received! I recommend to STAY AWAY from this place If you are visiting this quaint town. The owner has no patience, no service and courtesy skills. Bad food, bad service & bad vibe = Bad reviews!

DJ J.

Yelp
We stopped for a cone. There was a disorganized line and it was hard to read the items available due to lack of light and all the people. Then the guy in the window is a grouch! Not sure why he was so grouchy but oh well, wished him a nice day and he shut the window. The ice cream was good. Not sure what brand, Asked for a cone and the grouch did not ask what type of cone just gave us waffle cones. We sat on the patio in the back that did not have any lights at all, probably should put in a few low watt lights so you can see where you are walking. It must be nice to be able to have a business survive due to location not because of good service and product! Next time we will go elsewhere for our ice cream. The meter maids were walking the street and parking lot giving lots of tickets, so be sure to find the parking station and put in you money and license #. Cash Only!

Ricardo T.

Yelp
The soft serve ice cream is just that, typical fare, nothing out of this world ... just good soft serve. The hand scooped ice cream, on the other hand, AWESOME. If we went by just taste, this would be 4*s. There are two knocks on this place. First, a small one, it is cash only. There's an ATM nearby, but the year is 2017 and this place doesn't have any direct competition. Even a "minimum charge" would be better than being cash only. The bigger knock, there's a particular employee that's less than friendly. To the point of being downright rude to some. It's not like "mean," it's mostly just a rather "impatient" approach to his customer service style. Cranky. He just was cranky. And I wasn't the only one that felt that way. At the end of the day, this place is IT in the area outside of Shiloh's across the street and they're not even direct competitors.
