This was the first exhibit I went to when I first moved to Denver. It was cool then and the new collection is awesome as well. It is strange and nostalgic. My baby loved it too! She loved being able to interact with some pieces and practice her voice echos in the difference rooms. If you like weird and not boring, this place is for you!

Come to this place with an open mind, and take the time to understand each exhibit. This place truly captures an experience worth being apart of. Pictures cannot capture the magic, and I intend to visit again in the summer. Thank you for a memorable time!

The Dikeou Collection is hidden on the 5th floor with no external signage. There is some hint of what is to come in the building's lobby. In the museum, you have no idea what is around the corner. It's an adventure finding your way around with plenty of art everywhere you turn.

What a breath of fresh air it was to discover this jewel in the middle of downtown, fun collection and perfect to spend a nice day off discovering new parts of denver

Amazing hidden gem in the heart of downtown Denver. Walking into this space--the converted floor of a 19th-century office building--is like walking through the looking glass. You'll be pleasantly surprised as you turn every corner. The current show, a mid-career retrospective of the artist-founder Devon Dikeou, is perfect for anyone who's interested in the inner workings of the art world, especially from the 1980s to present, but even if you aren't familiar with art from this era, there's plenty to enjoy and discover. Highly recommend.

this gallery contains an eccentric and curious collection of artworks I felt honored to see.

The Dikeou Collection is a beautifully curated collection with character that is hard to find anywhere else in Colorado. Devon Dikeou's "Mid-Career Smear" inspires visitors to contemplate the in-between and transient parts of life using time and archival work as a medium for art. I highly recommend visiting this space whether you're a local or just visiting Colorado...It's free too!

By far my favorite installation of all time. And it's FREE!! You have to check it out.

Yelp
I'm always looking for different things to do and the Mid-Career Smear collection was different. We parked at a local parking garage on California and 19th St ( $20 for max hours) within walking distance to the historic Colorado Building. Also available is metered street parking. We had a reservation for the collection at 1:45 so we ate at the Tuscany Coffee & Deli (on the 16th St mall) for lunch and while we waited for our appointment. Initially we were confused about the collection hours and we left a VM and emailed but no response to see if we could go to the collection before our scheduled appointment (which we did anyway). A employee explained the appointment was to tell how many people would attend at a certain time. We arrived to find the building doors were locked but luckily a gentleman who works there let us in and also let us into the elevator to the 5th floor where we were greeted by an employee who explained about the visit. We were free to roam the entire 5th floor of each office at our leisure (only saw one other couple) that held exhibits from contemporary artists from around the world. There were information in the rooms providing brief descriptions of each exhibit. Some of the items were interactive. The collection is free and open to the public (Wednesday through Friday with hours from 11am to 5pm). For more information, please visit their site on Facebook or at their website.

Yelp
I fortunately had the opportunity to visit this museum before the pandemic hit and was very glad that i did. The collection of art and items here is definitely very eclectic, but is also very thought provoking at the same time. This collection is definitely much nicer than most free collections that I've seen in other cities, and I would have no problem paying a small fee to visit it again. As the rooms were not busy during my visit, I had the opportunity to slowly enjoy the art - this was good as some areas have quite a bit of items to see in a small area. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you're in Denver and enjoy art -- especially unusual and creative art.

Yelp
The Dikeou Collection has been on my must see list ever since I heard about the giant pink bunnies bunnies (titled "Somehow I Don't Feel Uncomfortable"). When my friend and I found ourselves less than a mile away - I knew we had to go! ++ Price is on point! Admission is FREE! ++ The pieces are all very unique and many of them are interactive installments! ++ There's a mobile phone audio tour available - so bring your headphones! ++ You can take pictures as long as your flash is off! Several pieces are totes Instagram worthy. It doesn't seem like the pieces/exhibits at the Dikeou Collection change much; so I don't know if I'll venture back, but it was def worth checking out at least once! It's a fabulous hidden gem!

Yelp
I visited here before the pandemic so it has been a while. But my mom and I loved it! We enjoy unique experiences and this was certainly it. We were the only ones we saw the entire time in there which honestly added to the experience. It gave us the opportunity to really enjoy a the art and have fun with it. At the time we visited it was free which was a nice surprise. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this collection.

Yelp
I almost don't want to write a review for this museum because I'm selfish and I want to keep it all to myself. I cannot believe this only has 8 reviews on yelp because this is one of the better museums in Denver. This is a hidden gem that needs the recognition that it deserves! First of all, it's FREE to the public, and has a free audio tour that you can take on your phone while you walk around (bring some earphones!). It's easy to jump on and off the phone at each station so you can hang up and take photos. I highly suggest you take the audio tour- it takes approx. 45 minutes to an hour to get through with the audio tour. I was there for an hour and a half because I took so many photos. They let you do so as long as the flash is turned off on your device. Every piece of artwork is so funny, unique, and incredibly interesting! Each piece leaves you there in awe of the beauty and sometimes startled by the artwork! I found myself chuckling at quite a few pieces and in shock from others. Each room is a different surprise, try not to ruin it for yourself by looking ahead. Take your time and listen to the audio on each art piece, they all tell a story. A few of the pieces are 'interactive' as well! ***TIP: Do yourself a favor and do NOT look up photos on Instagram or yelp before you go (hence why I'm only posting photos of the building and hours). TRUST ME ON THIS. Every room was a fun surprise and the thrill factor would be gone if you look it up.

Yelp
This place is a sparse yet interesting contemporary art museum on the 5th floor of the old Colorado Building. Located on the 16th street mall, this free museum has unique installations that are both functional and interactive. The fifth floor is broken up into rooms and each art installation has its own room, sometimes its not known if what is in the room is the actual piece of art, as in the room that just has an old answering machine from the 80's sitting on the floor in the corner with a blinking light, but in many other rooms the art pieces are very big. When going be sure to check out both halves of the museum since the curators office is in the middle.

Yelp
Finally found this place, was super excited, to see a sign saying they won't be open until February 2020...

Yelp
What a wholly unexpected and hidden gem right in the heart of Denver! A really impressive, odd, exciting, humorous, and innovative collection of works, outsider art, and fine art in a totally unique and interesting historic office setting. To boot, it's totally free and self guided. Highly recommend a stop if you're in the area, just a few blocks walk from the convention center and right off the 16th Street strip. It is a little confusing to find at first and the current construction doesn't help but it's a wonderful place.

Yelp
First of all, call ahead of time to make sure they're open before getting all disappointed at a FREE museum. This place is absolutely worth a visit, or two, if only just for the photo ops. It's part of Devon Dikeou's private contemporary art collection. A lot of pieces are interactive, and all of them are eccentric to a degree. The place itself was kind of hard for me to find, but fortunately a Yelp reviewer posted a photo of the outside entrance: the Colorado Building on 16th street. Once you find those doors, just go up the elevators to the 5th floor and the signs will lead you in. Bring headphones so that you can experience the entire audio tour!! No complaints here. Also no pics, because it'll ruin the surprises. My favs are the inflatable bunnies and the Japanese man. Enjoy!

Yelp
This is not your ordinary, static, admire the wall art gallery. This is a fun interactive art museum with exhibits you hit or play or literally crawl through! Space is explored, dimensions are altered and you control the sound and speed. There is a free audio tour line you can call, so bring your cell phone, earbuds would have been nice. Knocked off a star because they opened 15 min late. Location is good, afterwards we ate some Tosayaki from the street vendor.

Yelp
I had to go here for school work. My teacher described it as going down the rabbit hole ans a maze of artwork. I already love art so I was very intrigued from that point. I found some of the exhibits very cool and some interactive. Some were not my taste but there was a very cool one that was a car made out of cardboard and glue. It looked so realistic it seem like you could drive it down the street. Incredible car! Overall experience was great.... I left smiling and talking about the pieces in the collection.

Yelp
Visit Dikeou Collection if you're ever in downtown Denver. I was hesitant about going because of the lack of reviews and pictures on yelp. I only had a few hours to spare and wasn't sure if it was worth my time. Well I was happily mistaken. It's a smaller venue, but you will spend a good amount of time eyeing all the unique pieces in awe and it's free! The Misaki Kawai plane is my favorite.

Yelp
The pictures don't do this amazing collection justice. You absolutely must see this place. Some exhibits are so intricate you can spend a lot of time with them. The curator did a great job explaining the work and giving background on the artists. Kid friendly and interactive but the curator let us know up front that one room is not appropriate for kids.

Yelp
Very hard to find, but less than a block from 16th Street Mall. Completely free and not crowded. 17 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Recommended!

Yelp
Hi so disappointed they were out "back in 30 min". I will try again tomorrow. The thing I hate about signs like this u don't know what time they left
google avatar

Alexandru R.

Yelp
I don't actually know anything about the collection, because when I wanted to visit, they were closed. No notice on their website, of course, just a sign in the window. This water looking for parking for 15 minutes. That's just not cool.

Yelp
One of the best things in Denver! Definitely go if you can, and call ahead to ensure they're open. Totally free and amazing!

Karalyn P.

Yelp
Very cool and interactive collection! Such a hidden gem in Denver! All of the pieces are very artsy, intriguing and encourage you to interact with the pieces! Probably took about 45 minutes to go through everything.

Yelp
The coolest and most unique art collection i've seen in a while! I would DEFINITELY recommend

Yelp
I've been in this area of 16th street a bajillion times, but never knew the Dikeou Collection was hiding upstairs in that random building around the corner. Thanks, Yelp, for the find! Soo, this place is very random. No signs outside or really any way of knowing about it other than word of mouth or in my case, Yelp. Admission is absolutely free! So there's really no reason not to pop in for a visit. If you're like me and absolutely clueless about art, especially modern art, you'll probably leave thinking, "wellll, okay then." A lot of it is downright weird. Some things are creepy/scary. You'll know what I'm talking about when you visit, haha. There is also a free audio tour (you call a number posted at the entryway table and follow the voice recording to each exhibit). Dikeou is a nice place to visit if you're just looking for something random to do in the area, want to kill time, or avoid the rain/snow/cold. There are some pretty interesting photo ops in the space and it's cool that they do offer the audio tour if you're interested in learning more about the art. Big thanks to the donor who bought all the pieces in display! This is a neat, eclectic addition to Denver and I hope it sticks around for more people to enjoy!

Jeffrey U.

Yelp
Eclectic, avante garde collection of modern art. Located on the 5th floor of a nondescript office building. Not difficult to find, but you probably won't stumble across it by accident. Mobile phone-based audio interpretation to assist your comprehension.

Yelp
This place is really something. Kudos to the owners for doing this without asking for a dime. I discovered the gallery info here on Yelp while in Denver for a few days. Yelp didn't list the hours but I've submitted an update (W-F, 11a-5p as of August 2015). Art is contemporary, ranging from photos to room-sized sculptures. The Yelp listing says its kid-friendly; one set of drawings at my visit is not but the rest would be fascinating for most anyone. There was no docent during my visit (owner was in a meeting) but it's easy to do self-guided. They have a "call using your cell phone" set of info on most pieces but I didn't try it. (Suggestion to owners: put the call-in phone number on all pieces with info, I missed it on the way in.). The gallery is on the fifth floor of an old office building, which in a way added to the uniqueness of the place.

Jon C.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Top-notch contemporary art right in the heart of downtown. Private collection, but open to the public. In a historic office building, with art installed in each room. Have been to a few readings and concerts at the collection, which I highly recommend. They also have a new space behind DAM where they do lunches with a food truck / record listening. Hidden gem! Check it out!
