"Shun Lee 98th Street has changed its name. The Chinese restaurant on the Upper West Side was accused earlier this year of masquerading as Shun Lee Palace, a Midtown establishment since 1971 that has become popular with Chinese food lovers. Its owner, Sean Li, worked as an account for the original Shun Lee and licensed the brand’s name for one year, causing confusion and disappointment among its fans." - Luke Fortney

We had such a great Chinese food, so delish! For dim sum we had chicken shumai, truffle shrimp shumai, lucky 4 soup dumpling. For appetizers we had barbecue spare ribs, mouth watering chicken. And for main dishes beef cubes with szechuan peppercorns, general tsos chicken and braised jumbo shrimp with teriyaki saunce. For drinks had cherry temple drinks. If you’re looking for amazing Chinese food in NYC, I highly recommend Dim Sum Bloom! We had a fantastic family lunch there, and everything was absolutely delicious. Must-try dim sum: ✔ Chicken Shumai ✔ Truffle Shrimp Shumai ✔ Lucky 4 Soup Dumpling For appetizers, don’t miss: ✔ Barbecue Spare Ribs ✔ Mouth-Watering Chicken Our main dishes were packed with flavor: ✔ Beef Cubes with Szechuan Peppercorns – perfectly spiced! ✔ General Tso’s Chicken – crispy & saucy goodness! ✔ Braised Jumbo Shrimp with Teriyaki Sauce – so tender and tasty! To top it off, we sipped on refreshing Cherry Temple drinks. If you love authentic dim sum and flavorful Chinese dishes, this spot is a must-visit!

If you’re looking for authentic Chinese Cuisine Dim Sum Bloom is really a great restaurant to dine at. Here I experienced Authentic Hand Made Dim Sum and Delicious Appetizers and Entrees. For my Appetizer the ribs were cooked to perfection and the meat was just the right amount of tender. I enjoyed all of the dim sum options that I ordered. My favorite was the Hong Kong Style Shrimp Dumplings. I also loved the Sichuan Sicy Wonton In Red Oil . I had the General Tso Chicken for my entree and it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the Lucy Lui cocktail , it was sweet and refreshing. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very beautiful , and the service was great I would highly recommend Dim Sum Bloom it is perfect for any dining occasion. Here’s Everything I had : An order of ribs (Highly Recommended) Sichuan Sicy Wonton In Red Oil ( My Favorite) Hong Kong Style Shrimp Dumplings Chicken Shumai General Tao Chicken Moo Shu Chicken Drink : Lucy Liu Lychee Martini Everything Was Delicious and Prepared perfectly.

Clean. Good service. Solid Chinese and American Chinese food. Excellent specials and HH. What’s not to love ? Their restaurant week special is the move. Excellent value to portion ratio. Great pour on the glasses of wine too, Karen. Solid mid week option, if you live in the neighborhood.

I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience here! The service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. The highlight, of course, was the food. The dumplings and dim sum were phenomenal, especially the soup dumplings, which are a must try. Every dish was fresh, well-prepared, and incredibly satisfying. Would recommend for either a casual dinner or an event with a large group of people.

True gem in the neighborhood! Everything is delicious from soup dumplings to entree. Liked the restaurant week menu so much that I returned in two weeks or so. My favorites so far are crispy tofu and stir-fried fish in garlic sauce. Dan dan noodles are great, but unless you are really good at spicy food I recommend you ask for less spicy version. And the service is so great! Everyone is kind and attentive. Highly recommend!

If you are up to Chinese food, this would be a good spot in UWS. Ambiance is perfect for either groups or even dining out alone. You’ll love how the vibe gives you, very relaxed and welcoming. Their mini dimsum is a must try in the menu. Also we did order spring rolls, you couldn’t go wrong anytime with spring rolls, also stir fried eggplant to pair with either plain rice or fried rice would be the best. I’d give 4/5 because it’s UWS location, prices are higher than usual. But food and ambiance 5/5. A spot to try if you are craving for dimsum, this would definitely help.

Google
This place is pricier than a lot of neighborhood Chinese, but well worth it, particularly the lunch special. I know there was a lot of perfume when Dim Sum Bloom opened - all Shun Lee this and Shun Lee that. Notwithstanding, the food is excellent and they have some dishes that are pretty hard to find on the UWS, including Three Cup Chicken. The lunch special bento box is a ridiculous value for $17.95 (see pic). The location, which has housed a Chinese restaurant at least since I was a kind in the early 80s, is large and relatively elegant. I like that they retain some old school touches as well, like super horseradishy neon mustard and crispy noodles for soup. It’s well worth a stop through.

Yelp
I was really surprised by the quality of the food. I started off with the thai tea which was sweet and the tea flavor was extremely prominent. It was off to a good start already. I ordered the colorful soup dumplings, spicy wontons and truffle shrimp shumai for appetizers. Everything came steamy hot and I loved every bite of it. The dumplings had juice, the wontons were coated in this amazing chili hot sauce, and the truffle shrimp was bursting with flavor. For our mains, we got the barbecue spare ribs which was plated super nicely and had a nice smoky flavor to it. I was most excited for the peking duck. It was crispy and went well with all the sides included. I really enjoyed the service and the employees were attentive to our needs. Overall, a pleasant experience and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Overall delighted with the service and options here. I came randomly for lunch before a drs appt. Theirs lunch special is delicious and very convenient, 2 dim sum plates with the choice of egg drop and I think miso soup. Dim sum options are plentiful and filling. I was really content with a order of garlic wings, duck rolls, and pork dumplings. I'm excited to Comeback and try their dumping and soda special. The tiny dumplings are so freaking cute. Dumpings despite their size were filling and delicious. Duck roll had a great balance of meat and veggies. Egg drop soup was also very tasty. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Even though the service and seating areas were pleasant the food at Dim Sum Bloon was bad. I never say that food is outright bad but what we ate here was not dim sum. The turnip cakes weren't even traditional turnip cakes. However, the worst part was that we had to leave so much of the food uneaten as it all had a concerning freezer taste. I was genuinely concerned about the quality of the meat. I was excited about this meal but left with a bad taste in my mouth. The only redeemable part was that the pricing was so reasonable at lunch time. I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
Damn good red chili oil wontons. I get this dish everywhere, and every place does it a little differently. This random dim sum spot has the best flavor of it I've had in a very long time. The lotus wrapped sticky rice had overly hard rice on the sides, so was meh. But would come back just for those chili wontons

Austin H.

Yelp
This is a nice casual place to get dim sum and noodles. Everything is good and reasonably priced. It's exciting to have a dim sum place in the neighborhood. The best dish was the noodles, the dumpling also delicious. They have great lunch details which I will go back for.

Yelp
This used to be Shun Lee's uptown location, now named Dim Sum Bloom, and in this case the bloom is certainly still on the rose. Pretty much the same menu, the same great service (seriously, it stands out) and GREAT food. My steady and I came here on a humid-hot-rainy Sunday and sat in the roomy glassed-in porch-like area on Broadway. The AC is top notch -- not too cold; Goldilocks just right. But heck with that, let's talk food! Turnip cake dumplings -- GET THESE. I'm a turnip cake fanatic and the dumpling format is something to savor. Lotus leaf rice with vegetarian chicken.... Do not hesitate, GET THESE! Tiny pan-fried dumplings, um, wanna guess what I'm gonna say? Yeah, get these. Basically, everything I have ever ordered here has pleased me and keeps me coming back.

Stewart W.

Yelp
A better than average Chinese restaurant for the neighborhood. It's got first rate dumplings and noodles and a good selection of well prepared dim sum. The one disappointment was an overly salted Ma Po Tofu. Aside from that, I've had an assortment of selections over 4-5 visits and enjoyed them all. The service and ambiance are pleasant. Haven't tried it for take out or delivery.

Belkis R.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the perfect place. Ideally go with people because almost all the dishes are made to share and the portions are nice. I went by myself since I was craving soup dumplings and just had to try a few dishes. I know it was a lot for one person but definitely worth it. ( leftovers were delicious the next day as well.) I tried their pork and crab dumplings since Jordan my waiter recommended these and they did not disappoint. The dim sum menu has a lot of options but I went with that Jordan recommended. Also, tired the colorful dumplings. Each dumpling is a different flavor. It's a fun way to try a variety of delicious dumplings. I definitely will be back when I'm in the area. The service was excellent and the food was simply incredible.

Alan L.

Yelp
Very good dumplings. The Shanghai Soup Dumplings and Tiny Pan Fried Dumplings were the best dishes that we had. The Barbecue Spare Ribs were disappointing. The room is very comfortable. The service was slow.

Raju B.

Yelp
great find on the UWS, all the dumplings are great, as are the entrees. Best eaten in waves.

Kitty C.

Yelp
I'm disgusted. I ordered steamed fish with vegetables last night. DId not get to open it iuntil today. Not a single spick of steamed fish. All vegetables. Did they run out of fish and didn't bother to tell me? . The roast duck rolls were vastly inferior, hardly any duck! Another thing: I asked for a larger bag for this takeout order, since I could barely hold both handles together. The guy said "they didn't have any." Disgusting! Will never go there again. CORRECTION: I looked at the bill. Apparently, they failed at to get the "FIsh" part of the order. But they charged me correctly for just the vegetables. So I reviewed again.

Vicky B.

Yelp
Good enough. Clean and comfortable seating. Most of what we ordered was very good albeit not exceptional. Would return and try a few other dishes. Just couldn't get hot tea. The first pot was barely warm, sent it back and was just a bit better; gave up.

PhechPloy Patt P.

Yelp
The new spot for small bite, dimsum looks good. Tiny spot and clean. Taste good, fresh food.

Jasmine H.

Yelp
OK, nothing to ride home about, not as bad as the Chinese that was in there before I guess I was just looking for it to be the next level it was not

Mike H.

Yelp
Went for lunar new year during the Super Bowl. It's a pretty nice place with good service. We were given chinese new year themed keychains and a red envelope with a coupon for next time. They had a restaurant week menu that offered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees for $52 for 2 people. The portions were large and it was way more than enough food for 2 people. We got 2 restaurant week orders for 4 people and family styled it. My favorite dish was the Grand Marnier prawns. They were huge shrimp battered and fried over lettuce, tomato, and walnuts topped with pineapple and a sweet white sauce. Sweet, rich, and delicious dish. We had 2 orders of stir fried beef noodles which were savory and good. The noodles were soft and wide like the consistency of Thai noodles, and the dish was sufficiently beefy. The beef could've been juicier and tastier though. The king pao chicken was fine. The mouth watering chicken was good but spicy. That was over cucumber and topped with a sauce, peanuts, and scallions. We got 8 soup dumplings and they were tasty, the right warmth, and better than din tai fung. There was so much food that we took 2 entree's worth of food home. Very solid Chinese food overall, but it depends on the dish.

Isabella N.

Yelp
The food was good at frist then I got sick soo don't go here and then then I hot more sick

Andrew F.

Yelp
Although there was nothing dramatically different when comparing the food here with that of other dim sum restaurants, nevertheless it compares favorably. All of the items we sampled were competently prepared, were served fresh and hot and were as expected if not undistinguished. The service was sufficiently attentive but not intrusive and when called upon responded quickly and precisely. Considering its location away from an established Chinese enclave, ease of wheelchair entry, widely spaced tables that facilitated conversation, and that there were no long waits for tables would call for a return visit if we were looking for an UWS venue.

Johanna V.

Yelp

Jeanette E.

Yelp
I had to convince my parents to try Shun Lee in lieu of driving down to Chinatown for dinner - they are not an easy sell on alternative Chinese restaurants, wanting to take a look first, study the menu, and then FINALLY give it a chance. And so, it's no small compliment that they were so happy with everything from the tea, to the food, to the dessert, to the service overall. Thank you for an authentic Chinese meal, exceptionally prepared and served, and a wonderful atmosphere for our family meal. We will be back! Jeanette

Yelp
We met our city cousins on New Year's Day, and they were raving about a new Chinese eatery 2 blocks from their apartment. First impressions were good - a clean look, not overdoing the oriental themes. Good smells. Pleasant wait staff showing us to our table. The menu was full of good things, and we were told that it would soon be expanded. We ordered a number of appetizers, and they all excelled. Standouts were the turnip cakes and the soup dumplings. On to the entrees. The Chilean sea bass was extremely tasty, but quite small when it was spread among six eager eaters. The fried beef strings were fabulous. Topping off the festivity was the Peking duck - plenty of food here. My wife's favorite was the moo shoo vegetable. When we go back, as we surely will, we'll probably concentrate more on the appetizers. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Five stars but for bringing the delicious lunch special all out at once. Otherwise, all good - dishes, atmosphere, service, value. Maybe exchange the elevator music soundtrack for some jazz but really, so pleased to have this new, higher end Chinese restaurant in my part of the UWS.

Keith C.

Yelp
Excellent for dim sum, lunch, and takeout. The monthly specials are good for variety and value. The dining area is spacious and pleasant. Staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean. This is one of our favorites.

Deborah P.

Yelp
We ordered delivery for duck dumplings, soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings and turnip cake. Delivery was on time and well-packed - hence the 2 stars. The soup dumplings were 3/5 - most of the soup had leaked out. I suggest tri-dim west for great delivery soup dumplings. The other dumplings were tasteless 2/5. Finally the turnip cake was very encased in a flaky pastry that was distracting and oily - 1/5. I really don't have a high bar for dumplings so the fact that I ended up throwing out all but the soup dumplings says it all.

Leslie E.

Yelp
We loved our meal at Dim Sun Bloom! We had the Restaurant Week menu and enjoyed the soup dumplings, Dan Dan noodles but loved our two main dishes the most. My daughter had Stir-Fried Beef Rice Noodles and I had the Kung Pao chicken. Both dishes were fresh and flavorful and also generous portions as well. We will be back soon!

Ww H.

Yelp
I went in not expecting much, but came away pleasantly satisfied. A few dishes to highlight: - peking duck was above expectations. I regretted the order as soon as we finished giving the waiter our order thinking that it would be a stretch for a restaurant on the UWS to consistently have enough customers order peking duck for it to be good. Though the price was on the high side - thumbs up. - stone rice bowl with pork and cabbage. very lightly flavored but hit the spot. excellent if you add in some chili oil - deep fried shrimp dumplings - this was very good we were almost tempted to order two - my kids also sang praises for the soup dumplings, though i didn't sample any. 4 pieces for $9.99! Flavor was good, price is on high side (for chinese food) - but not exorbitant for this area.

Arnickia J.

Yelp
check out our wonderful time we had come and visit . Try the shrimp, duck , or the colorful shrimp. We also tried the vegetable rolls. The service was spectacular they make you feel at home

Sandra M.

Yelp
good food, quick service, courteous, willing to accommodate special requests easy access.

John C.

Yelp
So tasty I got a little misty eyed with gratitude. It's a beautiful bright and festive atmosphere. I had the lucky four color shrimp dumplings, the truffle shrimp dumplings, and the king pao shrimp. All so tasty. The king pao was especially superb - big ruffly and crispy shrimp, generous peanuts and water chestnuts, and snap peas cut into a nice size. Perfection! I will not forget this special birthday lunch. A highlight of my visit to New York!

Sion P.

Yelp
Dim sum bloom is just two blocks from my house. I do love a great dim sum. I hear great things about their fare from folks in the neighborhood. Unfortunately the two occasions I came by for lunch was cut short by the odor of that new industrial disinfectant that some restaurants have decided to employ. This place uses a lot of it. I've actually smelled it outside passing by the very same restaurant. Smells awful and gives me a splitting headache. Whatever happened to bleach or ammonia? Hopefully this will change so I may be able to enjoy a lovely dim sum lunch there in the future.

David W.

Yelp
We were so excited for a local-style Shun Lee to open, and we are equally happy that the kitchen stayed the same with the Dim Sum Bloom renaming. The dumplings are excellent--seems like the Shun Lee recipes persist--and most everything we've ordered off the menu (tonight it was the three-nut chicken) has been flavorful with high quality ingredients. It's not cheap, but even Ollie's wants $18 for a dinner entree now, and the dim sum lunch special here is a great deal. These guys went through a lot of unnecessary crap over a licensing deal gone wrong. In spite of it they're running a great neighborhood Chinese restaurant. We eat here regularly and think you should, too. Highly recommended.

Paul T.

Yelp
Dim Sum Bloom on 98th and Broadway came highly recommended. Entrees are 33 dollars plus with just a small amount of rice, and they make you wait over an hour so that you know you are getting something special that is worth the price. Guess again. The food is mediocre at best. The weird funeral music doesn't help. The whole experience was a disaster.

Felicia G.

Yelp
They have a strong Chef team , the food is amazing, recommend the steamed seafood with chili pepper, it has bumble shrimps, squid, and noodles, it's perfect for one person lunch. I also came in for dinner and tried the iced sweet pork, its cold outside and hot inside, the kingfu mushroom soup is mild and aromatic

Leoné H.

Yelp
This is a really nice restaurant for a good lunch or dinner! The service is great and the food is amazing! The restaurant has a really good atmosphere with good music. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who visits New York!!

John G.

Yelp
great food and Ice tea ! The woman Sonny was very sweet and her recommendations were really delicious ! Place is also very new and clean looking. Great addition to RVC

Bruce S.

Yelp
This is not the Shun Lee New Yorkers know and love. It has the name, but not the decor or the food. There is NO Chinese server in the joint. The food is comparable to a fast food take out. There are no steamed pork dumplings! The Peking duck has no head. The decor is worse than the Hunan Balcony that preceded it. At least their food was ***. This Shun Lee should get NO #'s. After a year of waiting for it to open, it is a huge disappointment. Read today's NY Times article about the restaurant.

Queen X.

Yelp
great food, authentic menu, tranquil atmosphere. The best dim sum north of Canal Street.

Kate H.

Yelp
Had a wonderful and delicious meal here. Speedy and friendly service and awesome food. Highly recommend the truffle vegetable shumai, the scallion pancakes, and the pea shoots. Lots of vegetarian options. Amazing dumpling dipping sauce as well. Definitely recommend this spot for dim sum or dinner!

Lara B.

Yelp
Ordered the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, and pork buns during their soft opening. Everything was delicious! Can't wait to come back and try more things when the full menu is available!

Mollie T.

Yelp
Shun Lee was just okay. The food was very average. They serve edamame which was lukewarm to cold and honestly tasted like it was still defrosting. The hand pulled noodles and soup dumplings were both lacking in flavor. But the pork dumplings sichuan style were tasty and I used the extra sauce to flavor the other dishes. The prices are higher than I'd want to pay for a Chinese spot in NYC and the staff were kind, but seemed really confused and were rushing/running around. Honestly wouldn't recommend.

Gary D.

Yelp
After reading the negative review online, I reluctantly gave SL98 a try. The food is top notch. Add to that friendly staff, excellent service and a pleasant ambience and you have a winner. They have lunch specials too. Welcome to the neighborhood, SL98.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Friday 4/14 night at 8, was busy but not full, greeted at the front door and sat promptly. Was made aware of specials ( half price Shrimp Grand Marnier with a coconut lychee plum tomatoes, and the shrimp 3 were Big. We also had fried tofu w7/ spices... WOW what a surprise, like a mozzarella stick but better... trust me its awesome and not greasy at all ! I had the pork belly xiangin, and it was spicy as advertised. They have wine and beer and the service was very good.

Rob C.

Yelp
I sent my finicky 4 kids here with the Nanny. Several were skeptical and whined that their regular pizza place would be the better choice. They ended up LOVING it and can't wait to go back. They raved about the fast service and how delicious the food was.

Leander H.

Yelp
As previous reviewers have stated, this restaurant has no affiliation with the great Shun Lee near Lincoln Center. The food is mediocre. I have had better Chinese food at take-out joints. While people were eating, one of the crew members was mopping the dining room floor. The scent was overbearing. Why wasn't this done before the restaurant opened? This space has been a revolving door of Chinese restaurants. I don't see a long life for this place. On the plus side, the waiter was very pleasant.

Kat O.

Yelp
Beautiful decor and clean restaurant. Fried dumplings are awesome. The chicken and shrimp dimsums are amazing. The beef with broccoli is tender and delicious. The staff is very friendly.

wendy g.

Yelp
They are really getting in their element - came here when they opened and a bit shaky but after seeing how full the restaurant has been when I walked by (and that's saying something for the UWS), went today for lunch. Dim sum was delicious (Soup Dumplings/Spring Rolls) and the Roasted Moo Shu Pork was amazing. A very much welcome place to our neighborhood and we'll be back! Ps my daughter loves the Chicken Soong

Lori H.

Yelp
Food is very fresh and good quality ingredients. The service was fantastic. Can only give three stars because the food was really sugary and not very authentic. Huge portions make it hard to have a true dim sum experience without feeling wasteful. I know many people in the US want large portions of sugary food so maybe that what they are catering to.

Radha K.

Yelp
have eaten there several times and had amazing service each time! The waiter is patient and responsive, grew up on the upper west side as well, and spent a term in China teaching English. The owner has given us additional starters and or desserts and asks for our comments in an effort to please. I am so happy to have a Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood that isn't just a storefront counter (long live the original Empire Szechwan, sniff sniff). I have always found the food delicious and the portions generous! My mother and I split the lunch special with enough for her to still take some home. The decor is lovely with authentic objects. As for the name, get over it, if anything blame the original Shun Lee for licensing their name, and just encourage a nice new restaurant!
