Small, family-run counter spot near the DMV turning out affordable staples like har gow, siu mai, and baked buns. Noted by local media for value; great for quick takeout or a low-key lunch.

When I lived in Sacramento I made my way to to Dim Sum House a few times a month. My hubby loves it so much that it was a priority for him to visit while we are visiting in Sacramento. I don’t know many other places where they sell dim sum by the piece/ a la carte and this place does which is very convenient of you don’t want to buy a whole tray. The taro dumpling is very special and one of my favorites! I also like their house chow mein, the war won ton soup and of course all the dim sum! Not much seating so to-go orders are best. I definitely recommend this place for affordable and yummy dim sum!

Google
This is a small whole in the wall probably 2 person operation so don't expect a whole dining experience or a huge dim sum selection. They have Dim Sum, a daily special plate and a paper menu full of items that they don't post so you have to asked for it. Prices are super low and portions are very generous so no frills but expect it to be tasty, filing and handmade. The dim sum selection is smaller. They make and put out what they have in the front for quick take out and when they're out, they're out. Get there earlier for the best selection. At the end of the afternoon, you get what you get. Shu Mai is my favorite along with the fried taro, fried pork dumpling and baked BBQ pork bun. They have a daily special plate that is freshly made when you order so expect a short wait. For $7 you get a big box that's almost 2 meals. The veggies are cut kind of big but they are fresh. Plenty of flavor! Best $7 plate you can get. The paper menu has a huge selection of food that I didn't know they offered until I saw a lady eating soup. I ordered chicken wonton soup and it was packed with chicken, wontons and veggies. It was tasty. Service is quick and to the point. It's one person doing it all Definitely not much atmosphere. There's a table or two you can communally sit and eat but that place is not meant for table service. Or to hang out.

Google
I went to this place a few times. The food at Dim Sum House is consistently delicious, especially the dumplings and shrimp rice rolls. Service is quick, and the takeout process is smooth.

Google
As a lover good, cheap dim sum, this is the place.

Google
I made a huge mistake of not going to Lam Kwong deli on 12th street. Thought I'd try something new. Horrible dim sum. Seeded like it was days old. Not fresh at all. Don't bother stopping here if you need dim sum on a week day early.

Google
LOVE this place. Food is always fresh & great portions. It's my go to for pork buns and dumplings. Please note this is takeout only as there is no seating inside.

Google
Nice place to try some dim sum, they just have few types of dim sum. The place is small with few tables to stay and eat. Staffs very friendly. It’s not the best dim sum but it’s acceptable.

Yelp
Dim Sum House is a solid go-to for no-frills, tasty dim sum in Sacramento. The staples--har gow, siu mai, were hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Service was quick and efficient. I also tried the daily special and the green beans--both were flavorful but very heavy on the onions. A little less would've let the main ingredients shine more. Just something to keep in mind if you're not a huge onion fan! Prices are super reasonable and the food hits the spot. Perfect for a casual lunch or dim sum takeout fix.
google avatar

Yelp
Always fresh selection of dim sim, pork bao or specialty dishes made to order. Prices are reasonable for what you get I always get the sui mai hargow and pot stickers. Will not disappoint. Eggs rolls are good but not hot. They do offer some cookies as well. Very reasonable price point. Excellent for a quick snack or light lunch or breakfast. Must try

Yelp
I came here while waiting in line at the DMV as person number 13. The boyfriend wanted Jack in the Box, while I said we should look around for something different for breakfast. Dim Sum House is a humble, no-frills corner shop with one person behind the counter and a simple menu with dim sum staples, along with lunch specials for around $7. Everything is priced affordably; 4 BBQ pork buns, 3 pork siu mai and 3 ha gao round up to $11, or roughly $5 per person. As for the food itself, it has a home-cooked quality -- savory without being too savory, substantial filling in every bite and flavor familiar enough to satisfy. It's not the prettiest or anything attention-grabbing, but it's a pretty darn good choice in local business to support when you're on the go.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for dim sum! Recommend to go early, to get the best quality. They serve deep fried pork dumplings that are to die for! They only do one batch most times so first come first serve. If you come after me, I'm pretty much taking what's remaining. Now sometimes they're cold cause they aren't kept under a heat lamp, I'd definitely warm them up before eating for the best taste. Sometimes I'm late and left with whatever's left and usually go with their $6.75 lunch special for the day. Yes less than $7 for a giant rice plate made to order, really affordable and tasty. Today I was able to get everything we wanted. Pork steamed buns, steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed pork dumplings, and the fried pork dumplings. Sometimes the lady taking orders sounds rude and very cheap when it comes to the sauce packets but the food makes up for it. If they were more consistent I'd give them a 4 star, but overall for food, service, and quality, it's 3 stars.

Yelp
I'm on the search to find myself the best walk up dim sum spot in our city. Dim Sum House doesn't take the best for me but it is pretty good. Came in on a Sunday morning and was able to get some of our favorite dim sum items. The siu mai was good and pretty big compared to others I've had but the flavor wasn't better. The har gow was alright but failed to "WOW" me. Prices are pretty cheap for the current economy so that does give the food a plus. There was only one person at the front which may affect service times during peak but there wasn't that many people there at the time so nothing ti complain about that. The ambiance isn't the best as there is only one table in there with chairs around it and the others are stacked up on each other, so don't really expect to dine in. Was it the best? No. (But it is good) Will I ever come back? Yes

Yelp
Delicious dim sum especially pot stickers, shumai, and my wife likes the shrimp. They are usually very fast and it's more of a take out situation since it's a small shop though they may have a few small tables. Super affordable and always satisfying!
google avatar

Yelp
This is an absolutely totally cheap walk up window to-go kind of Chinesefood and dumpling joint. It's a kind of place where you can eat lunch for $3 to $8 so I'm giving a good stars. Also I've never had a problem with MSG here which I normally have a bad reaction to. I love to get their lunch specials my favorite is the Kung pow dishes, but all of them are decent and I order them when I want a lot of food for cheap. Usually I just pop in for the cheung fun rice noodle rolled with onions and Char-siu pork which is cooked absolutely perfectly and is my favorite dim sum dish served here and cost $1. The shu mai, pork dumpling is super tasty and has little bits of waterchestnut in it, which is my favorite way to have it prepared, also sells for $1. I love that they have old school Bac tong go/rice cake. The har gow shrimp dumplings are ok as are the pot stickers, taro, sesame balls. The baked char siu bao/buns are quite good.

Yelp
Ordered two party trays on short notice- one bbq pork fried rice and one chicken chow mein. I called right at opening (9 am) and they said could be ready in as soon as 40 min. I arranged to pick up later in the am and my order was waiting for me. Came to $40 a tray, fed 20 people and had tons of leftovers. People loved the food.

Yelp
Wow, I love their pork bun; I wish it was still a little warmer or kept in a warmer. The crunchy fried taro has pork in it, and it was pretty good. The service was great. The place is a simple food takeout. During the weekday, they do not offer the whole dim sum menu, only what is showing in the picture. I ordered the skinny chow mein combo, and it lacks flavor and barely any meat.

Yelp
This a good place for take out dim sum. It's nice that you can see all the different kinds of dumplings they have through the glass. I was impressed with the variety they had. So many things to choose from! We ordered a bunch of different items. I really liked the shrimp dumplings the best, because it had good flavor of chives and cilantro. The chicken sui mai was not my favorite because it was on the dry side. The steam buns had too much bao and not enough filling for my taste. The egg tart and wife cake was nice and flaky. Not too sweet and It was delicious! There's a bunch of tasty dim sum and good variety to choose from. I would suggest you come and check it out if you're craving some take out dim sum! Friendly service!

Yelp
Went on a Sunday brunch time with my family of 5 who had been here before and felt it was good. We were seated pretty quickly so that was great. All the food was very good and fresh! Place is clean and you can order from menu or as the carts come around. Reason I gave a 4 is because they took too long to start serving us from the carts and one of the staff had to go get the items we wanted from the carts. Don't know if it was because of the kitchen being slow or not enough staff.

Yelp
This is an out of the world taste filled spot! Dim sum house you are GREAT! Please support this business!!!!! I tried the pork bun, potsticker, and dumplings OMG you will never stop coming back after you've tried them! Out of this world flavor & authentic with really good prices! Wow thank you for an amazing lunch I will be back!!!!

Yelp
Updating review as I've been back Several times now since the first review. I thought they only had what was in the case, but no they have a whole menu of items that is not posted. Most items are average to good but you can't beat the price. We just ordered beef chow fun, a tamale, 3 buns, and 6 dumplings for $22. I can easily spend that at Taco Bell and not get as much. With the cost of food prices rising, this is a good value and why I'm bumping a star. Oh and like a donut shop, come early to get the better options. I just missed out on the egg tarts because the lady ahead of me bought them all. Love supporting the small business.
google avatar

Regina X.

Yelp
No frills just fresh steamed dumplings and buns. The classic dim sum fare. Cash and card accepted! This is more a takeout spot but the dumplings are authentic.
google avatar

Autumn L.

Yelp
This was the only dim sum place I found that opens early in the morning, 9am on weekday actually! Lol. All the other dim sum restaurants don't open till" 11 am or so, but I was really craving dumplings since there aren't many in Roseville and I happened to be in town. Dim sum was okay, but did not have much of a selection unfortunately. Prices go by each piece which is about 80 cents I believe. They also have chili oil packets but not the actual chili oil that has the chilis. Was still provided excellent service! Oh and I don't believe it's only take out, no dine in from what I seen.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place out after seeing it on instagram. Walked in around 12pm and noticed they had already ran out of most food items so make sure to show up before hand. The inside resembles what you'd typically expect for a mom and pop shop which was comforting. I ordered their BBQ pork buns, shrimp dumplings, and shumai. Only had to wait around 5-7 minutes to get a fresh batch which was worth it. The pork buns were delicious and very doughy. Their shumai was flavorful and not too salty. I also loved their shrimp dumplings. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for something flavorful and inexpensive

Yelp
Great dim sum. Love that this place has been here for years. Keep up the great work. I'll be back as usual

Yelp
Located inside a shopping center, parking is very convenient. Came in for a quick Monday lunch and there was a short line. There's only one person working the front, but the wait didn't take long. He was very thorough with the orders and receipt provides breakdown to ensure accuracy. Interior has a few tables for dine in, light and bright, simple and clean. This place is not just a pastry shop, there are also wonton soup and noodles on the menu. Best thing I ate here was the egg tart. Very custardy and flakey crust. Not too sweet, which I enjoy. Shrimp rolls were great too, but were pre boxed, so it's not warm. Big shrimp pieces and noodle roll was slightly chewy as it should be. Sweet soy sauce was little bit salty, so I used just a bit. Chive dumplings were delightful, very juicy when eaten hot. Great texture and chive flavor, but could use a little more chives. Steamed pork buns were great, filled with savory and sweet gooey pork filling. The baked items were a little too stiff for me. Tried the baked bbq pork bun and pineapple bun. I wished the bread part was a little fluffier. It's called a pineapple bun because it resembles an actual pineapple, but to my surprise, there were chunks of pineapples in the pastry. Traditional pineapple buns don't have actual pineapples. I think it made the custard a little too wet to my liking, so I had mixed feelings about this item. Overall, I enjoyed the food and I'd definitely come back again.

Yelp
have not been here for some time. ABC bakery is generally the take-out favorite for locals. But ABC bakery escalated their prices before/during/after the pandemic. However, we were nearby Dim Sum House and decided to give it a try. , we ordered the basics: shrimp dumplings (Har Gow), Pork dumplings (Sui Mi), and Potstickers. so how were they??? Not good. All were doughy, extremely doughy, even the shrimp and pork dumplings had a very thick skin casing. blah. The pork dumplings were also smaller in size than before and had more veggie filling than meat. The potstickers were thick, heavy on ginger, and more cabbage (even had carrots) than pork. Even though ABC bakery is slightly more expensive, at least the flavor is consistent. This place is now not even on the "B Team" for dim sum. i would say The C or D team for local dim sum takeout. Don't come here.
google avatar

Loredo L.

Yelp
I was in the mood for a quick Dim Sum place on Sunday morning. The prior reviews were helpful. I got the usual dim sum staples. The pork buns were better than the pork / shrimp shumai. The custard dessert was subpar. It was inexpensive and I had to buy more items to get above $10 to avoid the extra credit card fee. Will not likely be back
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Been coming for years, but today everything was even better. The bao was like a pillow! This place has always been good. Today it was better...
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Good food best potstickers going. I go there about once every 2 weeks, they are big enough for lunch and leftovers 3 for $5.50

James S.

Yelp
Been coming for years. Have tried everything it is all great. Always fresh an hot. Get here before lunch rush everything goes fast. Family ran. Maybe I should just keep this gem to myself. Enjoy

Kristie L.

Yelp
Great pricing. Interesting location. Semi off putting service. But decent dim sum to hit the spot if you're in the area and want an early morning option. It's quite small inside and have tables pushed to the corner so I assume they used to have dine in but now it looks as if it is for take out only.
google avatar

Aileen L.

Yelp
Good customer service! Food is tasty, but you need to come early before the favorites run out.
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
My go to when in Sacramento! Always delicious! Rice cake, Portuguese custards for my sweet tooth and shumai and char siu bao for my savory side!

Jack S.

Yelp
Great cheap food! Good dim sum and lunch specials! Quick for easy lunches while at work.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Good but they cheap out on the hot oil, utensils and napkins. Expensive order and only gave 3 packets. I'll probably visit again but I need to buy my own oil at the grocery store.

Yelp
On an escape-the-house-drive, hunger pains hit and I wanted some dim sum to go. I remembered years ago that we had stopped by here but couldn't remember how it was. We dropped in just before 3pm on a Saturday. The selection wasn't huge. There were Har Gow, Sui Mai, Pot Stickers, Baked Pork Buns, and a few other things available. I was only interested in steamed items and pot stickers. She wanted a Pork Bun so we ordered a Baked Pork Bun. The food in general was okay. The skin on the Har Gow was thicker than I prefer. I can't really comment accurately on the flavors. She poured hot oil over everything while I was driving so I couldn't taste much after the first bite. My first bite of Har Gow made me think of white pepper but it could have been the oil. I'll have to drop by again when I'm in the area for another taste. The Siu Mai were good and the Pot Sticker was the best of the three because I've always loved lots of garlic and cabbage. I'm going to give an overall rating of 3 for now until I'm able to try them again. One thing to note is that toward the end of their day, the selection is smaller than usual.
google avatar

Nobu B.

Yelp
I think the customer service was fine. She was friendly. I mean, we didn't chat or anything Bc she had a line to get through lol I'm not sure what the other reviewers experienced but I didn't have any issues with service. The pork turnovers and baked bbq bao were delicious. However, the siumai and hargow were a bit disappointing. The flavor wasn't great with the siumai and the hargow texture was weird. Overall, I'd come back for the bbq pork buns and pork turnovers, for sure. The prices were reasonable. $0.90-$1.40 per piece.

Wayne W.

Yelp
Went late in the day and wasn't much left to buy. I did buy a few items. Will try to go earlier next time.
google avatar

Rod C.

Yelp
Drove all the way out here and it's closed even this days it's open. What a waste of time and gas.
google avatar

Liliana C.

Yelp
Absolutely gross. The worse I have eating really The food has no taste, and the place is not very clean.
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
Definitely go in the mornings when they open because they have all the options available. If you go lunch time there is nothing left except the special order dishes. This place is reasonably priced and have the loveliest couple owners to help you with your order. Parking is residential, but you really don't need to park for too long since the line goes quick. There are some items that are only available during the weekends.
google avatar

Stephen F.

Yelp
7Mar'23-11:55-Finally checked this place out and it did not disappoint. The shrimp dim sum was to die for. The pork buns were out of this world! I can't wait to go back. I'll go earlier this time for a better selection. So yum yum!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to grab some quick dim sum. They open early, too - and their stuff is amazing when fresh.

Yelp
Oh this hole in the wall joint on the corner of 27th Street and Broadway Ave is not much to look at. Small business owned and operated. But they sure do make an outrageously delicious fried Chinese sesame ball. Awesome five stars. They are huge, fried perfectly, and stuffed generously. Redbean paste stuffed and fried in sweet sticky rice dough. Yum! They are only 75 cents each. Yeah! But with a name as Dim Sum House, I wanted the dim sum to win me over. To me, the rest of the dim sum pales in comparison to the superstar sesame ball. They sell sui mai Pork dumpling 85 cents, fried pork dumplings 75 cents, egg custard, steamed pork buns, baked pork buns, har Gow, fried taro, almond cookies, and Chinese tamale. The tamale was made with torn chunks of preserved pork belly instead of sliced Chinese sausages (lap cheong). I didn't see or taste any other ingredients; no Chinese peanuts, mushrooms, or duck egg yolks. The whole tamale was bland. The sui mai had a flavor profile different than what I am use to, it was still ground pork though. The staff is super sweet. The woman that helped me was friendly and earnest. She spoke English with an accent. I had one communication glitch. I asked if they had a menu because I thought they sold entree items besides the dim sum. She went on to open all the dim sum lids to show me what they had for dim sum instead of providing a menu. If I'm in the area, I would drop by for those sesame balls. Oh by the way, they have no parking lot. It's all street parking.
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
I usually get their Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) and the fried taro stuffed with meat. So good. I've also bought the fried taro in bulk and freeze them. Throw them in the air fryer, and it still taste fresh!
google avatar

Nico I.

Yelp
The pot stickers and dumplings are truly amazing. Great prices, they also have a daily special from 9:00-3:00pm. There are no tables, Just take out. Food was fresh and satisfying
google avatar

Derrick M.

Yelp
Pork Dim Sum is my go to and the sauce is fire! Wish the owner wasn't so strict on the amount she will give you tho. Other than that the taste is always on point to me.
google avatar

Denise K.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch. Tried the baked bao n found the bun fluffy and filled with meat. The meat was not the bbq pork I'm used to but more American bbq sauce. Unusual but good. Also had shu mai n it was a much larger portion than I've had other places but again tasty. Prices very reasonable
google avatar

Elyse C.

Yelp
This is based solely on the Sesame Balls, which were 5/5. My parents have told me that this is their favorite place for sesame balls so I came here on Wednesday around 11am. They had a lot "in stock" at the time and were only 75 cents each! I got three and ate mine immediately. I like the ratio of "mochi" vs. red bean inside. The mochi texture is thinner and perfectly crispy. I would come here all day for their sesame balls if they were healthy. Street parking only.

Sam D.

Yelp
Fed two men for 15 bucks. No searing, not everting was in stock, but it was cheap and what was stocked was good. Small menu means you get good at what you do
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
My favorite to-go dim sum place EVERAHH!! It's a hole in the wall on the corner on 27th and Broadway. Never ever have I enjoyed a potsticker full of flavor, meaty and packed with ginger. This this at least 3 bites of yumminess. The porky filled Har Gow mixture has crunchy water chestnuts. They are not the 'pop in your mouth'. A meaty 2 bite delight. They also have delicious crispy big tarro turnovers, baked and steamed pork buns and seasame black bean balls. OH they are also a full menu of Chinese food with daily specials. Everything is very expensive. This place is a must! And a must stop for me---on my way to mom's!
google avatar

Taste T.

Yelp
Agree with other reviewers that some of their dim sum is mediocre at best - their shumai is bland, shrimp dumplings mushy and pork buns just OK. No dine in service available since the start of the pandemic. The owner (female) is not very friendly as other reviewers have noted. Oh and if you want an extra hot oil packet it'll cost you $0.25... even if you just purchased $30 of dim sum. Least expensive piece is $0.85. Their lunch specials are $5.95 and seems to be the best value.

Yelp
Sundays are typically my dumpling days. I see this unassuming place everytime I drive down Broadway and have been meaning to stop by. This morning I was headed to the bank and they literally turned on the open sign and popped open the door, 20 minutes before their posted opening time. Made me detour to grab some goodies and eventually forgot to go to the bank because I was excited. The prices are ridiculously low compared to other places in Sac, and its a bit of a sleeper. I love finding hidden gems, especially when I've lived here a majority of my life. Since it was early they didn't have everything out. I ordered what was out. The whole non steam section was delicious. Baked cha sui bao, these are a must have for me anywhere. But this a major sleeper for me. I didnt have high expectations. The bao didn't have the lofty brioche look or a sheen from the typical egg wash im used too. But...the dough wasn't as dense as I expected and the filling was flavorful. Savory and sweet, not underwhelming like some places and not overpowering from the sweetness. It was a harmonious balance. The lady there told me I needed to try to taro turnovers. I was planning to get them anways but she told me they were the most popular item. SOLD. I took a bite and can immediately see why. The crispy outer layer contrasted perfectly with the creamy taro, and the pork/mushroom filling was seasoned impeccably. I think the same filling was also used in the chewy saltwater turnover. I was impressed with these too. Both the sesame ball and saltwater turn over had a thicc (no 3rd c) chewy texture. Def recommend. The dumplings on the other hand was mediocre. It threw me off when I ate the pork dunpling and it had diced water chestnuts. Not an ingredient I am used to in these. The pan-fried pot stickers weren't really pan-fried, it didn't have the crispy bottom like I expected. She told me it had ginger. cabbage, and pork. There is a reason why she led with ginger as the first ingrediany, it has a strong ginger punch. Shrimp dumpling was pretty standard.
google avatar

Nani V.

Yelp
It's been years since I've stopped by, but still a great spot for a fair price. Plus the gyoza is huge! The lady didn't offer any dipping sauces and I forgot to ask. Still good, overall. Grabbed this for lunch, under $12, including taxes.
google avatar

Raymond E.

Yelp
Best value. They are the most inexpensive dim sum. Limited selection. Best for the dollar. I always go there.

Yelp
Good Dim Sum, great value. They have lunch specials as well...love the broccoli chicken on Wednesdays, changes daily. Nice staff & family owned, Support local business.
