The Best Restaurants in New Orleans’s Algiers Point Neighborhood | Eater New Orleans

"DiMartino’s offers overstuffed muffulettas, two-hander po’ boys, and savory Italian specialties, including a really good lasagna. Gumbo and red beans are on the menu, too. Locally and family-owned, DiMartino’s has expanded with three locations on the West Bank and one across the lake in Covington." - Beth D’Addono

Google
A coworker introduced me to this place for lunch today. Apparently, it is known for their muffaletas, of which I did not order since I don't eat beef or pork! I was hoping for a hot meal. Instead, I ordered the chicken strips and fries. To start, I love fries, and because I also can not eat onion (which is in the potatoe salad their normal side), I opted for double fries. I was quite disappointed. The size of the order of fries was not what I interpreted a double order to be. In addition, the fries were cold by the time I made the five minute drive back to work to eat! Also, although the chicken had a good fry on it and had some flavor, I would not describe them as chicken tenders, but instead chicken nuggets. Lastly, for what I ordered, I think the meal was largely overpriced. I know the price of some things are going up, this was ridiculous to me. Since I don't or can't eat most of what is served here, I will probably not return. The woman serving was nice, and the atmosphere gave a trip back in time, but clean.

Google
Most places that serve muffelatas have one size and you can order a whole, half or quarter. Here you have small and large. I got the small and it was easily enough for two people. The large must be crazy! Olive mix was good and the bread was perfect. A little crispy and soft in the middle. I had a side of red beans and rice, which were really good. I would return just for that. Staff was nice and very friendly.m

Google
Delicious muffaletta! Packed with their homemade olive spread. Based on my opinion - my only complaints would be the bread was a bit too crispy and tons of oil. But others might love that!

Google
One of the best roast beef poboys in the city. We have tried everything on this menu because I have been going to the Gretna location since I was a teenager. Food is always on point. Resturaunt is clean with fast service. I recommend everything on the menu!

Google
Another Five Star Review for pleasant atmosphere, great food, and service! Thank you. Di Martino's is locally & family, multi-generationally, owned, and are WestBank natives. The restaurant is open, clean, well-organized, and with a nice view. They offer great New Orleans style seafood as sandwiches, po-boys, and platters, Italian, and the very best muffulettas. I had & recommend the shrimp po-boy, my wife had & recommends the muffuletta, which she says is the best muffuletta in New Orleans, my son had the shrimp & oyster po-boy, and my grandson had a child's meal. The staff were clean & neat, well spoken, friendly, and professional. The manager came around to the tables to talk to the customers and ensure that everything was well. Thank you!

Google
One of the best muffalattas anywhere. Very good roast beef. My gf orders the shrimp po boy with extra extra extra pickles- she never gets more that two slices per half, she is always disappointed.

Google
This is a neighborhood favorite! The food is very good and consistent. The staff is friendly and professional. The price point is inexpensive, especially for seafood. I die here frequently and will continue to. I usually get the butterfly shrimp and sweet potato fries with potato salad.

Google
Fast friendly service. Open kitchen, clean and efficient. First time I've had a Muffellleta: got the 6" small round, and if was HUGE. So many olives! Salty savoury. Worth a try. ATM & slot machines in store. Glass bottle root beers, or fountain drinks. Beer also available.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite go to local spots. Staff are nice and always courteous. After coming there a couple of times, many months apart they remembered me and my order. The muffuletta's are excellent and made fresh. You can also call ahead and pick up as well. Highly recommend you try this place. Great local and hometown vibe.

Yelp
I changed my mind, this is the best muffuletta sandwich I've had in the NOLA area... We had the fried mushrooms which were delicious. Got the small sandwich and still took half of it for leftovers. Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
Came for lunch with my coworkers. Small cozy place. Friendly staff. I ordered the roast beef, potato salad, and gumbo combo. The potato salad was ok, the gumbo pretty good and the roast beef . Roast beef had a good amount of gravy just like I like it! One of the better roast beef in the City.
google avatar

Yelp
It had been quite a while since I had eaten at DiMartinos, and it was as good as I remembered. My husband got the shrimp poboy combo with gumbo and coleslaw. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, just needed a little salt. The gumbo and coleslaw were really good. I got the kids shrimp Plate with red beans. It was all delicious, just needed a little salt. The service was very friendly. I will be back!

Yelp
Been searching for a good muffuletta and this place makes my now favorite and best tasting muffuletta in the city. Damned good. Avoid the Central Grocery trap with their "all bread no meat and flavorless" muff and travel to the West Bank for a delicious treat!

Yelp
Perfect stop for poboys, muffulettas, and Italian dishes. I've got the Muffuletta, Roast Beef Muffuletta, and the Chicken Parm Plate. All 3 were absolutely fantastic. The service is excellent, with Jeannie always working the counter with excitement and a smile, they are very welcoming. Local place with very large portions.

Yelp
Food is great but they charge he a whole lot without getting bing much service. Dined in 2-shrimp po-boys 1- order onion rings 2- soft drinks $53.28 When asked for catchup we were given 1ounce. Asked for more and got two more. The staff are working short. I can tell and I know others could too. Sad

Yelp
DiMartino's is a great place to go to, for people of all ages, and it is has awesome food fare that will tickle the palate of everyone in the family. The atmosphere of this restaurant is just as equally alluring, as it makes one feel at home, as well as comfortable and at rest. The servers at this fine establishment are very cordial, welcoming, and caring in every way. They make you feel as if, you're visiting at home, instead of just a place to eat lunch or dinner. Because of this homely feel, I would come back again and again, to either eat a meal there or to order out. DiMartino's is indeed a wonderful restaurant, for all that they do, and will continue to do for years to come. They know how to cater to not just the person, but to the heart of the person, as well. No other eating place gives me a feeling of family like this one does. For this reason, I feel invited there, and want to eat there as much as I can.

Yelp
Try this place by recommendations from the locals. I had the roast beef muffuletta, excellent, everything was fresh to order. I totally recommend just based off this sandwich I tried for the 1st time. Will for sure come back if I'm in New Orleans

Yelp
visited the covington location. staff was friendly as could be food was really good restaurant was extremely clean and food was moderately priced. Job well done folks. Hats off to Gustavo , Cedricka.L and the entire staff. We will be returning to this location soon.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The staff is very friendly and happy to serve. The place is clean, cool, with nice music playing. Definitely a place I will eat at again. Already thinking of what to try next :).

Yelp
Has the ownership of this store on DeGaulle changed hands? I have been a patron of this store for many years and today will be the last time I patronize them. a small sandwich combo plate (ham and roast beef) with two sides and a drink was $23.25. this is a sandwich shop! I asked for nothing on the sandwich and it was a good thing I was paying attention, because there she was loading it up with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato.

Yelp
Consistency is a understatement, count on a great poboys or gumbo Yes prices have risen but that's not the restaurant's fault . Very convenient and fast. West Bank legacy

Yelp
This is a reason to travel to Algiers! The Chefs at THIS Dimartino's take care in all the details of their craft. Golden Brown and Delicious (GBD) Fries, tender Grilled GBD Chicken Breast on toasted French Bread made to order and served with engaging smile and cheerful attitudes. You will enjoy!

Yelp
Adding to our muffuletta expertise, we drove across the bridge to try this one out since we have a car at our disposal this trip! We bought the largest, ($20), which could feed 4 but now we have dinner too. The bun has a nice crispy crunch to the top, which is a nice change after all the soft and doughy PO boys I've eaten all week. The olive topping also has nice big bites of olive vs the chopped relish of others. IMO the real find here was the shrimp poboy. We only ordered that on a whim but I really liked how unfriendly and fried shrimp is! (I'm not a fan of the heavy, super crispy fry job... I like to really taste the shrimp just cooked, not murdered) They had it all done and out the door in ten minutes, which is super impressive considering the attention to detail involved!

Yelp
Wanted to try a muffaletta sandwich during our day in Nola. After yelping places simce central grocery had been damaged this place popped up and i was not disappointed. The food was great. Better fresh cuz our drive back to Baton Rouge made the bread a little hard.. Our fault completely even still it was delicous. Gotta try it and you get to cross the huge bridge too
google avatar

Yelp
Nice variety menu. Never disappointing. Consistency is on target! Actually I wish more places had service and quality like DiMartino's.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good Value is not. Got two shrimp platters here to go , price including tax was 52.00. I thought that was very expensive. I could understand if I was in the French Quarter. This Sunday went to another seafood restaurant on Behrman Highway, got 2 shrimp platters, one large shrimp poboy and one hot sausage poboy, 47.00. The size and quality was just as good as DiMartinos. Sorry, I won't be back. Overpriced.
google avatar

Janice T.

Yelp
You need to update your hours. Just stopped at 3:30pm on Sunday and your Yelp page says open til 8:00 pm. You were NOT open

John R.

Yelp
Great traditional New Orleans Po-Boys & muffulettas Not on the tourist radar, but it's where the locals go
google avatar

Sophia T.

Yelp
I really like their bread, but otherwise their poboys are okay at best. Everything was made fresh and came out hot. I think the prices are a little high. Eggplant sticks ($9.99) are not sticks... it's not thick enough for you to taste the eggplant. I really felt like I was just eating batter with marinara. Shrimp poboy dressed w/ provolone ($13.65) - okay. My biggest qualm with this is that when I opened my sandwich, the shrimp didn't fill the entire sandwich. The ends of both sandwich were bare. Roast beef poboy combo ($13.30) - comes with gumbo and potato salad. This was better than the shrimp poboy to me and I don't even like roast beef like that. Def not something I gravitate towards. I think it had a lot of flavor and the gravy was good. Veal parmigiana ($17.55) - I don't think the veal is seasoned well enough. After eating through the batter, the veal was just bland. Angel hair w/ marinara was whatever. Didn't taste fresh. Came w/ 3 small pieces of veal. Not worth the money. The bread is the obvious winner at DiMartino's. Crunchy on the inside and super soft on the inside.

Yelp
My cousin and I were visiting New Orleans area and family wanted to take us out to eat..this place I ordered the catfish with potatoes salad and sweet potatoes fries...Tiramisu and a sweet roll...all was tasty atmosphere was delightful enjoyed it..very clean...had old school music on...
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a good Muffaletta at a decent price or just never tried one before. This is a great place for you to start. Service is a bit spotty, the establishment needs some tlc. and great location on the main road.
google avatar

Krista P.

Yelp
Their shrimp po boy is to die for. I get mine dressed and it's perfect. The shrimp is great. Not overly battered. It's just right. Their platters are good, too.
google avatar

Mari H.

Yelp
This cafe is my uncle and grandpa's favorite. It has delicious gumbo and po' boys, and is famous for its muffulettas. I loved my shrimp po' boy and fiancé loved his roast beef combo. The staff are exceptionally friendly. The serving size is big enough that I was able to keep an extra portion for tomorrow. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is that the prices on the wall were wrong. Everything was about a dollar extra, so we ended up being perplexed about the bill. I think once they change the prices on the wall to reflect the real prices, I'll give it 5 stars.

Yelp
COVID-19 update: my family and I really enjoying this local restaurant! Before the pandemic I remember seeing Angela Hill who used to be on Channel 4 news eating inside with her father bc he loves this place too! During the pandemic they have indoor seating but I just ordered takeout for my parents. This latest trip I got the chicken Parmesan and the red beans and rice. I took one star off because it didn't seem like we got the regular size portion of red beans and rice we normally get so I was a little disappointed? But the food was delicious nevertheless. We normally get the muffulettas which are huge and delicious and the fried eggplant appetizer with marinara sauce. They also add french bread with butter to our meal as well. Happy eating!
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
My first time eating here was this past friday, i found the spaghetti great but the meatballs, well they were out of this world. I do recommend for the spaghetti.
google avatar

Derrick M.

Yelp
Mufaletta combo, great taste not over salted and good flavor balances for the three items included in the combo. This will be added to my place to go list when I visit New Orleans.

Vicky B.

Yelp
$8.50 for fried mushrooms (to-go). When we dine in, portions are usually bigger - a plate full. Disappointed.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
Was in New Orleans on a whim. Found this place on Yelp. Wife & I split a Small Muffuletta, order of Fried mushrooms and a small fry. Everything was made to perfection. The muffuletta bread was OUTSTANDING! It was nice and crunchy on the outside with a soft inside. The olive relish wasn't overpowering as I have had on other muffulettas. Awesome meal, will definitely return when we're in the area again.
google avatar

Stella A.

Yelp
The best soft shell crab Poboy in the New Orleans area. The best roast beef on the muffuletta bun! Yum. Reasonable and always have the same smiling employees!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Dimartino's has some great sandwiches. My favorite is the roast beef po-boy. It is covered in a delicious sauce. Make sure to get it with lettuce, tomato and pickles. That makes it! My second favorite is the muffuletta. While my favorite muff in the city comes from Central Grocery, Dimartino's makes a close second. It is very similar in flavor to Central's, but the bread is not quite as good. All in all, every sandwich I have had here is great. The other dishes seem to be good too, but I can't convince myself to stray from the po-boys and muffulettas! I've been coming here for a while and will continue to do so.
google avatar

Anne Marie C.

Yelp
Sooooo good! One of my new favorite burgers. The seasoning on the mushrooms is soooo good! Great burger. Fried shrimp tastes great and the red beans and potato salad are both good as well. The burger shocked me. Love it. Gonna stop here more often!
google avatar

Kathleen G.

Yelp
I don't think there's anything bad I can say about DiMartino's 's. They have the most awesome bread that sandwich is a generous their coleslaw is rocking the shrimp potato salad is rockin roast beef sandwiches are awesome they are Muffulettas are wonderful. You can tell that Mr. Peter cares about his business and his customers.

Halee B.

Yelp
The best food I had my entire stay in Nola and the service was stellar. So very welcoming and kind to my whole family. If we are ever back in the area; Dimartino's in Algiers will be hit up first! They made my day! We split the large, ate half there and brought the other half home to Arkansas the next day. It's good even a day old.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
The food is excellent. The gumbo is fantastic. My favorite is the lasagna. I have tried many different dishes and have not been disappointed with any. I dine here frequently because the food is great. I gave it 3 stars because EVERY time I go, there are always gnats or a fly bother me. Last time I was there, I opened the menu and there was lettuce smashed inside. The other menu had dried food in it. That was not appetizing at all. When mentioned to the hostess, nothing was said and the menus were returned to the others and new ones were given. The waitress apologized. So, what does one do? Hopefully they will clean the menus better. I hesitate when I think of going back to dine here. But, the food does not disappoint.

Rachael L.

Yelp
Good muffuletta sandwich. Came as a recommendation, and we were ok with it. Not wow'd, but would recommend trying. The small fed 2 people so consider that before ordering.
google avatar

Shelby W.

Yelp
Expensive ...very pricey $40 for a small muffalatta and a poor boy, 2 drinks and a small fry. Granted they were tasty ! Just more than we anticipated
google avatar

Dale H.

Yelp
Totally disappointed...purchased 2 muffulettas to go and watch the Saints at home. Plenty of bread, plenty of olive salad, almost no meat and cheese. Called to complain and was told I wasn't the first to complain, but this was just the way they are made. Mgr gave me a name and number to complain at corporate. My sandwiches looked NOTHING like their pics posted on their web. Just a complete disappointment on the food and how my objections were handled

Lori G.

Yelp
The shrimp and catfish poboy were a hit with movers from out of town. Wanted to give them a taste of New Orleans. The staff was very pleasant for a busy Sunday.

Ruth B.

Yelp
The muffulettas are fabulous! The fresh bread and awesome, chunky olive salad are the best!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
This place must be known only for their Po-Boys and nothing else. We ordered the Pasta dishes, which were abysmal. My wife and I ordered the Lasagna, which came out swimming, nay drowning in sauce. Moten hot lava sauce, which to me screams of a microwave reheat. The pool of sauce over lasagna will stop the microwave from drying out the pasta, but over cooks the pasta, which it did. Making what may have at some point been delightfully Al Dente, woefully, Al Droopy. Overall, our meals were bad, the ambiance is alright, very busy, but not too bad. This place is nowhere I'm going to go back to any time soon.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Had a 1/2 muffaletta and a cup of gumbo. Both excellent! I always hesitate to go to places that claim themselves famous or the best at something, but in this case it's warranted.
google avatar

Theresa K.

Yelp
Amazing food. The place is a dive with some of the best food ever in the history of ever. It is getting pricey and run down, hence the four stars, otherwise it is a five for courtesy and food quality. You must have a roast beef sandwich if you even remotely like roast beef. Seafood gumbo, potato salad are good too. Would love to say I have had other items but every time I come back to NOLA, o get the same thing. Hey ownership, how about you clean this place up some so it is more comfortable for the customers? Food and staff rock but your building could use a refresh.
google avatar

Nikkie N.

Yelp
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon & I was craving a shrimp po-boy. Manfriend suggested Dimartino's. Though, he's lived on the WB his entire life, he's never had it. I don't have a go to for shrimp po-boys and I barely crave it. However, Dimartino's might've started an obsession! I think it's their seeded (sesame) po-boys. It's just that extra that makes it special ! I had the roast beef muffuletta too ! & that was so good as well. The shrimp potato salad was excellent. It had just enough mustard but I can see myself adding some old bay seasoning to make it "just right". The eggplant sticks were good but I wish they did half orders because it's way to much for two people to finish. I noticed that they carry some Angelo Brocato goodies! Everywhere that I have gotten po-boys from include "dress" (mayo, lettuce, tomato, & pickle) in their pricing but at Dimartino's it's an upcharge. It's a small turn off.. especially when both sandwiches had barely any pickles (my favorite). Pricing: Eggplant Sticks 9$ Shrimp Potato Salad 7$ SM Roastbeef Muffuletta Dressed 11$ Shrimp Po-boy Dressed 11$

Barry A.

Yelp
Usually go to Central Grocery then we found ourselves on the other side of the river. Saw Dimartino's and tried them last night for dinner. AMAZING! The Italian salad and muffuletta were perfect.
google avatar

Tad D.

Yelp
Easy five stars for what it is: brilliant take out sandwiches. Get the large roast beef fully dressed with cheese on muffuletta roll. Skip the fries and you'll still have enough for lunch tomorrow. So unbelievably good. Takes about fifteen to make so call ahead.
google avatar

Emilio D.

Yelp
I loved it, the muffulettas were really good, i wish I bought two haha. Totally recommend this spot 100%

Kurt L.

Yelp
Excellent food for mostly locals that is off the beaten path. The food was amazing. Based on a 10% deco, 20% service, 30% value, and 40% on quality-- I am forced to give them a 5 star review. The kitchen was clean as a marine belt buckle, the restrooms spotless. (The 3 second rule doesn't even apply because this location is so clean!) Just steer clear of the carol sue location around noon-1pm and you won't stress finding a parking spot or seat inside. The locations are strewn about the westbank of Jefferson and Orleans and are few a far between. But the muff was excellent and the service was ultimate. When I asked my wife where she got the crazy idea for a turkey muffuletta, she replied "well, YOU brought one home 5 years ago, it was really good then, and it's very good now." I guess that I must be burnt or have Alzheimer's, cuz I don't even have a chance against her memory. I was watching "side effects" and when I saw Channing Tatum come out of Otisville, his threads were the same as mine in the 1st year of a federal military service academy. I remember we had great food, just about 30 seconds to eat all the steak you could. Because rolls would compress real well, we used to smuggle food out in shoes, the crotch of your underwear, even under an armpit after a 10K company run. Umm, yummy. The things one will do to make 2nd lieutenant in 3&1/2 years. That I will never forget. So stay away from academy food and stick with DiMartino's, it is far superior. As "military boot foot sweat" bread pudding was not as good as anything on the menu here. The NOMMA (around the corner), leads to the USMMA--but anybody with a touch of morals knows that taking a 90-year old woman's cane and stepping over her as she falls to the ground has better moral judgement than those set by a federal academy.
