When my brother said try Dimassi's once I settled down in Houston, I knew it had to be pretty good, especially since our family loves Mediterranean food. Seriously, I can't believe the price for the selection of food, the upkeep of the service, and the easy dine and pay.
At first, I was a little scared they wouldn't have a nice selection of just fresh vegetables to stack everything else on. I even asked if they had just plain Romaine or lettuce since I saw all their salads dressed, which they responded no. However, upon further look, I noticed that most of them were dressed with simple lemon and olive oil or balsamic, with one of them looking barely dressed. Perfect! That allowed me to stack all my goodies on a nice fresh salad. Everything was pretty good - grilled vegetables, chicken, penne mushroom pasta, gyro meat etc. Some things, like the baked fish, was way too salty or were overcooked. Tip: ask for the lamb shank because they have to bring it from the back. It's a little gamey for me but was perfectly fall-off-the-bone cooked. I loved their lentil soup as well, cheesy bread, pita bread, and eating their taziki straight out my sauce cup haha.
As for the desserts, it's a pretty diverse selection of ethnic desserts, from rice pudding to baklava, and "creamy" baklava (kind of like stiffer rice pudding with a hint of rose water topped with phyllo, honey, and pistachio). Wish there was whipped cream to top the rice pudding but that is because I just love whipped cream haha.
Can't wait to come back. Note: take-out is only $6.99/lb!
