This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in San Antonio! I honestly think their orange chicken is the best in the city! Make sure to bring friends because these portions are huge and I encourage to share. The orange chicken is so good however that I keep it all to myself 😋

Google
This place was recommended to me by many locals and I'm upset with myself for not trying it sooner! This is seriously the best Chinese food I've had since living in San Antonio. They have a beautiful entrance and you're hit with an amazing aroma from the food when you walk in. My waitress katy was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I was off to a good start with the crab ragoons, they were fresh and at my table within minutes; crispy and filled with their flavorful cream and green onion filling. I ordered the combination (chicken, beef, and shrimp) lo mein and it was seasoned to perfection, all the meats were tender, the noodles weren't dry but also not drenched in sauce, and it's honestly a large portion. Hot oil was offered, nothing needs to be added but I added some because I like some spice. Definitely a must try if you're in the area and craving some Chinese food!

Google
13 years being in this city, and I am barely finding out about the BEST Chinese restaurant in San Antonio. As I was walking in, I was immediately taken aback by the incredible detail and effort, decorating the restaurant. The food has an authentic and exquisite taste that keeps you wanting more. Im definitely going back.

Google
Aside from them not accommodating to my medical card for a smaller charge for a smaller portion due to weight loss surgery… (typically most places accommodate this is medical card) but the food was amazing! Great priced! & the amount of food is amazing. I do not believe the photos justify the amount of food on the plate. My waiter Manuel was extremely kind and very helpful! Definitely going to return.

I don't understand the good reviews. By far the worst restaurant I've eaten at, not just the worst Chinese restaurant, the ABSOLUTE WORST restaurant. I made the mistake not looking at the photos first as I would of had an inkling about the focus on quantity over quality. Majority of the food was bland and cold. Our family ordered the lunch specials and here are the summaries for each order: 1. Lemon Chicken- extremely large portion, sauce lacks depth, and rice is a weird texture and not like any fried rice I have ever seen. It is more like days old boiled rice that wasn't quite fried. The sauce is some type of red sauce. I could not eat the rice. 2. Sweet and Sour Pork- again, extremely large portion, sauce had no flavor and had too much gelatin or cornstarch. It was as if they microwaved it beyond the acceptable temperature and then cooled down into a goop. The meat tasted old. The food was served cold with the rice and was all inedible. 3. Mongolian Beef- served cold and flavorless with the rice. 4. Mongolian Chicken- served semi-warm and flavorless. Served with the rice. Other food we ordered and here are the summaries for each: 5. Crab Rangoons- a misnomer as there was zero crab or even crab flavor in these. Just a dollop of flavorless cream cheese. 6. BBQ Pork Ribs- extremely chewy. It took over 30 minutes to eat one. I believe these had been previously cooked and then put either in a fryer or oven way past cooking time. This made the meat tough and inedible. 7. Egg drop soup- was decent and came out before the rest of the food. 8. Egg Roll- very large and tasty. This is the only item I actually ate in full. It came out before the food. 9. Iced Tea- served unsweetened and not much of a flavor. Service The server was pushy and wanted my husband to share his soup. He did not want to and she still brought 4 bowls despite asking for 2. Also, the servers are zigzagging everywhere with their carts. The food carts used to serve the food are dirty and have not been cleaned in a long time. Gratuity is automatically added (not sure for how many people). Ambiance Tables too close together and many people talking loudly. Waiting area crowded and as aforementioned, servers and other workers zigzagging through tables and crowds. Everything has years of accumulated dirt such as the restroom and walkways and the serving carts. Conclusion I don't understand the appeal of this place. I always saw this building but never ate here and after trying it I will never return. I don't know what Chinese food people have been eating to believe that this is the best Chinese food around.

Google
Great place to eat Chinese food in San Antonio! Ding How serves great tasting food, and the ambiance is a little “old school”. Waiters and waitresses were friendly, and it seemed like a great place for all (couples, families, etc). I highly recommend this place!

Google
The restaurant was so clean I would like to say that to begin. I was very impressed that the meal I ordered was a full breaded chicken breast neatly sliced. It was not smothered in sauce, I was able to dip my chicken slices into the orange sauce. The shrimp and noodle meal was amazing also. The noodles were thick and perfectly cooked. I was extremely happy with the service. The server was very kind and attentive always making sure I had enough water to quench my thirst. Because of this restaurant, I am very excited to return back to Texas from my home state Idaho.

Google
Why did we not try this place before! Everyone and everything was great. Fast sit down, friendly waitress, excellent food and great prices. Big family feelings from both customers and staff.

Yelp
I've heard this place has been a popular for Chinese food for many and I've finally made it here to see for myself. The decor throughout the restaurant gives you all you'd expect from a legit Chinese restaurant. The service was as I would hope. Attentive, courteous, and friendly. Ordered lunch specials for lemon chicken and Szechuan beef. All the food was served with satisfying portions and great flavor. I would most likely be visiting Ding How again in the future.

Yelp
This place was okay. Food wasn't bad but I can't say I enjoyed it either. I went with my go-to Generals Tso chicken and it was different from what I'm used to. I like a more spicy Generals chicken theirs is almost sweet. The portion was extremely large and it could've easily been a shareable plate. The rice was good just a tad dry. I'd much rather pay the same price for a much higher quality dish. I can't complain, it was good enough. I did try a bit of their orange chicken which i did enjoy. Our server was Katie, she was sweet and very attentive. My drink never went empty and I always had exactly what I needed. The place was pretty busy given the time of day. The restaurant was pretty nice and felt authentic. I liked their little fountain pond at the entrance. The music was also suiting which added to the experience. I hear so much about this place and perhaps I just didn't order one of their best dishes. I'd be back to try some more options in the future.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years but we had out of town guests so decided to try something new. It was okay but I don't think we'd go back. We had the dinner for 3 which was actually a good value but the food was mid. Beef and broccoli was okay but very watery in the sauce. The seasame chicken was good but it was mostly batter and the chicken was hard like it had been fried too long. Lemon chicken was overcooked and dry. The fried rice was good, not great but in comparison to the entrees it was the star. I can see why this place is popular. It's cheaper and the portions are huge but I'll stick with China Inn!

Yelp
Since I was going to be in the area and was wanting some Chinese food, I decided to order from Ding How. I had been here many times in the past but it had been many years ago. I conveniently placed my order online, choosing a combo plate with lemon chicken and beef and broccoli. The cashier was friendly and quick and I was on my way. Based on what I remember, it appears nothing changed on the interior of the building. I found the lemon chicken to be the best part of my meal. The rice didn't seem to have much flavor. I was bummed that I received won tons instead of an egg roll. I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon, because I feel there are better options out there.

Yelp
We came here on a Tuesday for lunch. There is decent parking, but it was absolutely packed. We had to circle around a couple of times to wait for someone to leave. There was a short wait, but we were sat pretty quickly. The restaurant is large and well decorated. Our server was very attentive. We started with vegetable spring rolls. I got the lunch special and picked the Mongolian chicken and green pepper steak. I upgraded my wonton chips to an egg roll. My wife got chicken lo mein. The food came out fast and the portions were massive. Everything was delicious and the leftovers reheated well. Their mustard was really strong

Yelp
We ordered for pickup Lemon Chicken and Combination Fried rice and 2 egg rolls and I am glad we did because this place was busy. I am not sure what happened to there egg rolls they looked like greasy burritos, I prefer the regular looking egg rolls so I did not try these, but the Lemon Chicken was crispy and flavorful.

Yelp
Over in this area taking care of some business and realizing I hadn't eaten and it's lunchtime, and seeing the Ding How sign brought back memories of when I'd come for lunch back in the day. I waited for a parking space as always and had a five minute wait for one. Once I was seated I already knew what I wanted, lemon chicken, egg roll, and a tea. I like their lemon sauce and it's not too lemony. Before I could stir the sweetener in my tea she was bringing my food out. The chicken was hot but dry and I had to double dip in the lemon sauce. The egg roll was cold, but she brought me another one. Overall, I might do it again and I might not.

Yelp
Ding How has been around my whole life. I've been there as a small child, teen and into adult years. They have received a lot of my money. It's that good. Mostly have ordered to go but it's a real treat to sit in the restaurant and take in all the culture. The service is always amazing and they are always smiling. The food has been consistently good since I was a small child. Never a miss and still in my opinion have the best lemon chicken and the best egg roll. Can also say their orange chicken is also the best. If you have never been to the Chinese restaurant on stilts- you are missing out. Go check them out.

Yelp
My boss always orders from here for business meetings which is how I found out about the place, so now for my birthday she always orders from here because I love their chicken lo mein. This year for my birthday I took my hubby and kids to the actual restaurant. My eldest had a kids plate. My hubby got beef lo mein and I got chicken lo mein. The baby ate from both of our plates and she loved it. The portions are great! The owners were there and they were so nice to our daughters. They gave both of our kids a handful of fortune cookies before leaving :)

Yelp
This place is always busy which speaks for itself, the parking was challenging and searing tight and obviously popular. The service was good and surprisingly quick for how busy it was. Our food was good, large portion sizes.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid 4 stars. This is what I would call an old school Chinese restaurant. The decor is lovely and has been well kept up. The service was friendly and fast. The portions were huge and the cost was very fair. The food is fine. Not excellent but not bad. Except for the egg roll. The egg roll was excellent. The sauces were a bit bland but overall the food was fine.

Yelp
Good service, plenty of food & crazy parking. This location is an oldie but a goodie. This location has good food & good service. Prices are as expected for Chinese food. Combo fried rice is my fave, add soy sauce & hot oil.

Yelp
Food: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 8/10 First time coming here (my bf has been here for lunch before) Our waiter was very nice and checked on us whenever she was taking care of other people. I go the Lo Mein combo, (chicken, beef & shrimp) I didn't care for the shrimp but overall really good. My Bf got the Orange chicken & both got a side of fried rice. Crab Rangoons came in 6 total but I started eating them before I took the pic lol The amount of food we get is pretty insane & Can't wait to come back again
google avatar

Yelp
Old school Chinese has been around for many years. Great service and low price with large entree portions. Would like if Wonton soup had more pork, it's a little sweet. Very consistent and always fresh menu.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been here a long time. I thought it was good, but was very disappointed tonight. I ordered Beef and broccoli and could barely eat it it was so salty. I said something politely to the waiter and he immediately took it back and brought me another plate. It was less salty, but the sauce tasted old or something. What a shame, I was really looking forward to the meal. I guess it could just be a bad cook night or something.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great! Huge huge portions. Orange chicken was not breaded so you can actually savor the sweet and spices . The Chicken Chop Suey as my favorite! Garlicky yumminess with lots of crunchy veggies. Hot and sour soup was a bit sour but still a good choice. We also got the side of soy noodles which was a great selection as well! Very flavorful for just soy and noodles. Waited and staff were very friendly and nice

Yelp
I had not been to this restaurant in many years. A lot of things have changed as far as the ambience the lighting just the experience in general. However the food remains very good quality. I ordered the lemon chicken. I've been ordering that since I would visit the restaurant back in the late 90s and I have to say they are very consistent. The chicken is still delicious. It's perfectly fried juicy and tender. With the lemon sauce on the side. I ordered the fried rice for charge. It was OK. Our service was great our waitress was attentive. She came to us immediately when we sat down and our food came out quickly.

Yelp
Thank you to Kolor for her extraordinary service! She was very helpful in lunchtime menu selection! Delicious sweet and sour pork with add on soup and eggroll! Perfect! She was thoughtful to bring a to-go box without my asking! Please recognize Kolor in some way for her excellence! Thank you

Yelp
The setting was very pretty. I could tell it costed a pretty penny, I just wish they would spend that money on the food. I'm not going to lie - the food servings was HUGE, but not that good? Like I said before - I wish they spent some of the money from decorations on the food. The fried rice wasn't even fried? It was yellow which made no sense. & I also got egg drop soup which was I felt like a neon yellow color which did not sit right with me - and it also had mushrooms in it, which I didn't mind but it was odd. Last time I came here was 4 years ago - and I don't think I'll be coming back for another 4 years. - hopefully the food is better.

Yelp
Made the drive from New Braunfels and this place is well worth it. Our server Katie was amazing and was super friendly! Great food and you get a lot for your money!

Becky B.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday with my dad. The atmosphere was beautiful, our server Katy was so sweet and very attentive. She explained the menu very well as it was our first time here. The food came out pretty quick and was fresh and hot. We got orange chicken, Shrimp Kung Po and Chicken and garlic. We will definitely be coming back even though it was on the other side of town.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been going to ding how since my kids were little ... so the early 2000s. It's a flip of a coin when coming here. Sometimes you can go there and you get great service and leave you a pitcher of tea. Other times you can get lack there of service and your chicken might be pink inside. This time, it was good. The service could have been better. My daughter and I didn't even get a refill, which would have been nice. Yet my son got a refill. They brought the food out and asked us if we needed anything else, then pretty much disappeared until the bill came around. It was kinda busy, but it seemed like he was tending to others more than us. It's not the greatest Chinese food, but it's not the worst Chinese food. If you don't mind playing Russian rullet with if your chicken is cooked inside all the way or there's gonna pink, then sure you should go to this place.

Yelp
Amazing family style Chinese food with a great atmosphere! Reminded me of being back in the East Coast

Yelp
Have driven by and wanted to try this place for years, but we are rarely in the area. So we decided to try it for a birthday lunch with the family. The building is really eclectic and welcoming with enough sitting area with Chinese influence all around the dining room. The waiter we had was a little spaced out, but overall the lunch was great. We started off with some eggrolls that are solid, crispy and full of cabbage that pairs well with the chili paste and worth an order to share. Our table got Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Lo Mein, and BBQ Duck to share. For 5 people, this was plenty of food and we took home 3 boxes. Incredible deal for $80/before tip. The tables favorite was the Sesame Chicken (though it could use a little more sauce). The duck was a little dry, but the duck broth helps along with some chili sauce. The Lemon Chicken was also dry, but goes well with the fried rice or Lo Mein.

Yelp
My first time eating at ding how was an experience. I went with my boyfriend and we ordered the pu pu platter for an appetizer. The egg roll was decent. It also came with ribs which had decent flavor and steak skewers which were ok. I did not try the shrimp toast. I ordered a Mai tai. It was delicious. Loved it. We also ordered egg drop soup which I didn't love. It was ok but I've had better. The chicken and broccoli was simple but delicious and the pineapple chicken was phenomenal. I would highly recommend either dish. Over all the experience was a good one.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
My husband and I like to go to Ding How. It's not fancy. The food is pretty good and I know I'm not the only one that thinks so because this place is always busy. One of my favorite dishes is the lemon chicken. The chicken is so crispy, the lemon sauce is tasty, and it doesn't matter what kind of rice you choose, it's good. My husband usually has a different dish every time and he hasn't complained once. I promise to take more pictures next time, but you know how it is when you're hungry!! The regular dinner portions are big. They don't come with soup or an egg roll. Which makes me sad, but you can always add an appetizer. The last couple times we went, we had excellent service. The servers were friendly, helpful and there to make our dining experience a good one. Something else I just learned, you can go to their website and order online.

Yelp
Terrible food. Ordered won ton soup which consisted of broth and wontons, no veggies not stuffes just the noodle. Ordered the pu pu plator, terrible, the eggrolls were the worst I have ever had, the pork ribs were NOT cooked all the way, way to raw for my taste for pork. We also ordered fried rice combo, bland chicken and shrimp, yuk. Ordered low main noodled, bland. Mongolian beef, first decent dish. And lastly kung bo chicken with peanuts. Honestly, one of the worst Chinese food I have ever had, and no or minimal air conditioning; WAY TOO HOT INSIDE THE RESTAURANT.

Jozaier D.

Yelp
Ding How, a well established Chinese's restaurant in the northeast of San Antonio that gives you considerable portions at a decent price! The waiters optimize their time very well and check on you to make sure you're enjoying your experience. The decor in the building is presentable and realistic. I truly wish the best for them and included them in my prayers. However, simple rules of hygiene are not being neglected. A long strand of hair was on my plate that was given to me straight from the kitchen in a stack. The second piece was found in my fried rice. Remain cautious if you chose to indulge in Ding How!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
The hubs and I went to Ding How b/c we heard it was good, and as long as we've in the vicinity. We've never been. The decorations in there is pretty cool. The service was good and the food was really! We'll be back!
google avatar

Trina W.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Wait was not long as the restaurant was pretty big and seemed to be well staffed. Portions are huge! Could definitely share an entree. We tried two basic dishes, general TSO and orange chicken. I'm personally not a fan of the breading on the chicken. Not what you typically expect with Chinese food and some of the pieces were very big. I didn't care for the orange chicken but with some hot chili oil the general TSO was decent. Fried rice was... different...tasted more like yellow rice than fried rice. Our toddler got one of the soups (it had glass noodles, shrimp, chicken and vegetables) and it came in a large bowl. The kids menu was a bit limited so that's why we got him something from the main menu. Definitely not the worst Chinese place we've been to, it was decent but not the best I've had..haven't found that place yet in San Antonio.
google avatar

Yelp
Had lunch there today. Place seems a little run down. I ordered Shrimp with Mushrooms, fried rice, egg roll and jasmine tea. I paid extra for fried rice instead of white rice and ordered an egg roll as it did not come with the meal. Food was terrible. All of it. The only thing I enjoyed was the hot tea. Service was okay. What a disappointment. Never going back.
google avatar

Yelp
1st time customer. Wait time was not too bad. We had the sesame chicken, egg rolls, lemon chicken, Mongolian beef, chicken fried rice, and chicken lo mein. Our waitress was so nice and attentive. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!! my personal favorites were the chicken fried rice and sesame chicken. This will be our weekly family dinner spot....ohh and plenty of parking. Also loved the decor. Also not too bad $$ for everything that we ordered.

Yelp
The service was outstanding. The Egg Foo Young was the best I have ever had. I'm looking forward to my next visit

Yelp
Awful, awful, awful food is not good at all! Tv dinner would be better! Never go, never eat, just gross!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried out this San Antonio staple with my co-worker. The food was ok. Hot and sour soup had an unfamiliar taste. I got the Kung Bo chicken. I was expecting it to be spicy, unfortunately it was tasteless and not spicy.

Yelp
This place has been around forever. I remember coming here when In college. I won't say how long ago that was. It continues to be a very popular place to have Chinese food at. I had not been here for many years. It is still very good. We started with the pupu platter and egg drop soup. The pupu platter is perfect for sharing. It has shrimp today, crab Rangoon, bbq rib, teriyaki beef, eggs rolls and fried dumplings. I have to admin it I ate all the shrimp toast. It was yum. I ordered the walnut shrimp for my main meal. It reminded me of sweet and sour chicken. The sauce was very similar. The portion was large and came with white rice. The dish had pineapples and bell peppers. We went on a Thursday around 8pm and there was wait to get seated, but we only waited about 10minutes. Parking is available on site.
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
I ordered over $200 of food to go. With 4 large soups and did not get any fried wonton chips. Every other restaurant serve it when you order soup. The shrimp toast was also very greasy.

Yelp
Every single time I go to Ding How, I get transported directly to Beijing! The restaurant is gorgeous with Chinese decor and architecture. It's spacious and can accommodate big parties and social gatherings. The food is freaking delicious. All of the Beef Spring Rolls & Egg Rolls are homemade and hand rolled. They have all your favorites like Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken, and Orange Chicken. They also have specialties like their epic Pineapple Chicken. The service is always on point and I appreciate that every time I go there, I leave happy. Highly recommend yelpers!
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
My two favorite dishes as a lunch special! They have the BEST Mongolian beef in town. It is nice & smokey! No one else makes it like this. The lemon sauce w/ chicken is great too.

Sylvia J.

Yelp
Order food to go. When I open the bag some sauce leaked out from container. I found out food is too hot and burnt the container it can cause cancer in the future won't be back

Yelp
This is a classic Chinese food restaurant. Friendly and quick service, delicious food with a familiar feel and taste. This place gets packed but it's pretty roomy inside so I've never had to wait for a table. Portions are generous, prices are amazing. You'll probably have leftovers, and if so, please take them home because it's tastes even better the next day. I always try different dishes and I've never been disappointed. My significant other always gets the lemon chicken and swears by it. Great place overall.

Yelp
We had lunch here on a Friday during the holidays and they were super busy. I love the traditional decor as its reminds me of restaurants in old Chinese movies. Service was excellent and the food was perfect. We split the pu pu platter and spicy garlic noodles with shrimp. The garlic noodles had the right amount of spice and garlic. Don't forget to ask about their swag!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
My family enjoyed it. We weren't sure about the orange chicken because it said it was spicy but it was hardly spicy so perfect for the kids. They loved it! We also ordered the Mongolian beef and lo mein. Both were good and I appreciated l All the veggies in the lo mein.

Yelp
Had lunch here today. Food was great. I ordered the beef with mushrooms. The service was awesome. Had great customer service. Good portions and great prices. This is the place for good Chinese food. Clean and good atmosphere.
