Dining On The Edge

Me and my husband came to visit the revamped dining on the edge last weekend, as it was previously our favorite restaurant. Upon arrival we were left waiting for quite some time and it seemed like our hostess was in no hurry to get us to our table. We did not have a reservation as it says online that walk ins are welcome. There were many tables available, but the tall hostess with reddish brown hair made us feel as though we weren’t of any priority. Her attitude was quite snippy. Once we were seated things started to improve. Our waitress, Kim, was fabulous, and it was nice to see a familiar face in the new place. I wish there were more of them as we always enjoyed visiting with the previous employees. Our food was great, and the table side caesar salad that Kim made was delicious. The drinks were subpar, and we waited quite a long time for them. The renovations are beautiful, but the service from some of the new staff could use improvement.

NEW OWNERS & CHEF Feb 2026! Fantastic meal and great atmosphere! We enjoyed dinner on Valentine’s Day and had a superb experience! Food and service is good, pace of service was not rushed and appropriate for a fine dining experience. The specialty menu for the day had delicious options and the beverage menu was full of creative signature drinks and mocktails! We can’t wait to go back and enjoy the regular menu and sit on the deck this summer! 10/10 recommend. New owners, new chef, new bar tender and interior remodel. Well done and thanks for elevating options in Orofino! Looking forward to all the cool things planned for the future too!

The newly renovated space is so beautifully done. The new Chef's creations have won me over on dishes that I have never liked before. Now that is talent! The staff have all been wonderful and so attentive. Did I mention the specialty cocktails created specifically for this area? Definitely a must stop!

Loved the food, atmosphere and service! Amazing steak salad and Osso Buso! Kim our server was exceptional… friendly, knowledgeable and you could tell she knew her stuff! A amazing 19 year anniversary celebration 🎊… Thank you to “The Edge”… Definitely try the blueberry cheesecake! ❤️🌹Yummy!

You can't always live life on the edge......but you can eat here!!! Excellent burger/rings and chipotle ranch sauce. Brenda's heart for service and hospitality will have you leaving with a happy smile and stomach! I will return......

I really don't like leaving poor reviews. I do wish I had read some of the other reviews before going here. We were staying next door at the Best Western and decided to walk over. The scenery is nice on the patio. The one positive star would be that the bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers were good. The rest was not good. Poppers arrived and we had no forks... eating with hands... but they gave us no napkins and they are quite greasy. Ordered our meals (Sun Dried Tomato and Spinach stuffed Tortellini & Sirloin Steak Alfredo). Meals also come with dinner salad. My husband ordered his steak "medium"... it came way over done and hard and leathery. It was bad. My meal was almost flavorless. Glasses sat empty with no drink refills. Our salads NEVER CAME. Our waitress wanted to push higher dollar menu items. It seemed once we weren't getting steaks or seafood, we were not worth her time. 2 hours spent there and we ate in less than 10 minutes. We asked for a check... 20 minutes later still no check. We had to go inside to try to hunt it down. We were shorted our salads, spent $84 on a dinner for 2 that was not good. I would never eat here again. Expensive, bland, bad service. And we paid for items not received. There are great places in town to eat that are less expensive, taste great and have wonderful service.

Day 2 of eating at On The Edge. Yesterday I enjoyed a side salad which had freah greens, radish and colorful carrots. Followed by Mahi Mahi street tacos. The fish was cooked to perfection. It did need more sauce and slaw. Had a margarita to top off, first time served one with a cherry in it. Day 2 Glass of Chardonnay, ordered house salad with Blue cheese as it delicious. Ordered the BBQ flatbread. Hand down best I ever had. The Kitchen is a bit loud which takes away from the expierence. This is a great restaurant on the river.

I was in a rush and asked my server if it was possible to be served quickly so I could be back on the road within 75 minutes. They accommodated me graciously and the food was delicious. I had the Basil & Sundried Tomato Tortellini (very good) and the 3 Cheese Artichoke Dip (amazing).

Good and bad. Decent for where they are and how far away you are from everything. The bread served with dinner was so hearty and delicious a highlight for sure. Just okay service. They were busy yet we did have to keep getting our servers attention to bring us more drinks. Then my prime rib that I ordered was way overcooked. It took a long time to get it and they had run out of other things on the menu so I didn't want to risk sending it back to wait for them to cook me another one. But I ordered medium rare and it came out very much so medium well. So I ate it anyway. I will come back and give them another try when I am up in the area.

Ambiance - 10 stars. Service may have been great IF we had stayed to eat. We didn't wait to find out. The server / bartender was hanging out with the other servers on a slow day (September in Idaho). All I could hear from my table was fuck this and fuck that from said server. I am not a prude and the "f word" is one of my favorite words...however there is a time and place. I told my friend I wanted to leave. The menu was not impressive so there was no loss there. Go for the view but wear ear plugs.

It's all about the location, the patio non the river. Food was okay and a bit expensive for the quality. We shared the Prime Rib we ordered Medium, it was well done, so a bit dry. The baked potato, vegetable and house salad were average, but fine. The bread loaf was burnt, so the bread was not edible, it's a darker whole grain, so it may be good if it wasn't over cooked. The Coulter Creek wine was delicious and modestly priced. Our server Brenda was excellent, very kind, helpful and accommodating. I'd go back if we were in the area, probably just wine and appetizers on the deck, with Brenda as our server, would make a lovely evening.

We actually loved this place!! Our Hostess Connie was excellent ask her about her Italian heritage!! Our waitress Brenda was also very nice!! Great location on the river, Brenda has worked there for 19 years! That tell you something right there. The salads & clam chowder were excellent. Definitely be back again while in Orofino!!

Very solid place to eat in Orofino. Porch offered great views, and the edge burger and Cobb salad were both nice dishes. Prices were a little higher than what I found listed online, but still reasonable. Service was nice, but it wasn't busy at all so that probably helped. Would definitely recommend giving it a shot.

What a fabulous lunch. We were greeted upon entering by two people and were allowed to choose our seat. About half of the restaurant seats are by the window with a perfect view of the river. They have a full bar but as it was lunch, so we both ordered iced tea. We shared the French onion soup and a salad. I ordered the New York steak with fries and my spouse ordered the salmon "sandwich" which just meant the salmon was served on bread. Both were prepared to perfection. For dessert we shared a cheesecake that was home made. It was better than most. I'm so happy we found this place. Kim was a great server and we would come back in a heartbeat.

We stopped by for dinner and it was so good. The Mushroom Swiss Burger and the Pesto Shrimp Flatbread were awesome. Food, Service and Atmosphere were great!

Clean, friendly place with outdoor dining. We had the taco salads. Positives.. lots of meat, and a nice variety of items. My husband and I both had one and our first comment as we left was (old people food). Yes, we too are old people, but I think the better comparison would be hospital food. All the ingredients were there to be a great salad, but no spices, bland. Even the salsa was bland. Side note: some like it hot, others like it cold, their taco meat in the salad was cold. Not my personal preference, I prefer it steaming hot and very spicey. The staff were very nice, serving sizes were huge, and of course only a few feet from the hotel/lodge. Great views of the river no matter where you are seated! This was the only thing we tried, so can't comment on savory dishes other than they smelled good as the waitress walked by!

Excellent service with a fantastic view. The food was delicious! Had the salmon special and steak.

literally the slowest service i have ever experienced. it was just my husband and i and it took over 2 hours. our waitress was extremely inattentive and all tables around us filled and left twice before we were able to leave. the food tasted good but dang that was a long time!!!!!

The ambiance is wonderful, our table was overlooking the Clearwater River. Restaurant empty early on a Thursday evening. We ordered halibut with fries and shrimp Cajun fettuccine. Halibut was a 10. Fettuccini was a 5. Very bland and tasteless. Couldn't have identified it as Cajun if I had to. Some of the shrimp in the dish still had tails. Service was wonderful and our server recommended great red blend wine. I will be back and try something different.

Dont expect them to be open within posted hours on a Saturday night. They closed more than 2 hours early after we repeatedly attempted to make reservations and verify that they would be open at 7pm on a Saturday night. we payed for the most expensive suite in the hotel next door and got shrugs and excuses for why it wasn't anybodys fault for the restaurant closing 3 hours early on a Saturday night, but at the same time we were told they "do this all the time". We drove home that night without staying and will never return to Orofino. Best Western and this "restaurant" could not care less about our experience. We were formerly yearly customers but never again. avoid this town and these businesses.

Wonderful service and good eats! The menu has so many intriguing choices, we want to come back this way soon!

If you can Find the service here maybe you could sample what looked like a solid menu. No go! Never got an order in. Nothing but Ghosts at our end of the restaurant. Was warned and they were right. Too bad Go down a couple blocks to the Shotglass for some good bar food and quick service. Better atmosphere too

Had A great dinner at the Edge this evening. Food was excellent and priced fairly for the service I received. The waitress Destiny and the rest of the staff were very professional and timely despite of how busy the restaurant was. Hands down the best dining experience I've had in Orofino. Would highly recommend!

The team here is super friendly, attentive, and gives the restaurant a super upbeat personality. Decent wine selection and our server was incredibly patient with our (possibly overzealous) menu questions. The salmon was great! Highly recommended.

Husband and I hoped for a nice dinner...the artichoke dip was a fabulous start...it was tasty! Sadly the dinner went downhill from there. Our server's children arrived and we were no longer a priority. We watched two tables being served by another server arrive/eat/depart while we waited for our seafood entrees. Next her kids' food arrived. They ate and she boxed their leftovers. After the children left (90 minutes after ordering) our food arrived COLD. She said they'd warm it, but its return was tepid at best. At the point we'd invested two hours and opted to leave. Server seemed sweet, and food looked appealing, but our experience was disappointing.

To be fair, we were a group on 16 that came in on a Saturday night. There were a lot of empty tables, so it wasn't super busy. They put tables together for us in the bar, which was great. We were there 2 1/2 hours before our meals were served. We should have left, but had to keep waiting because we had drinks from the bar and had no business driving. I had the bbq chicken flatbread, which was ok - there was plenty of bbq sauce and not a lot of chicken, pineapple, or onion. My husband had the pistachio encrusted halibut, and he said it was really flavorful. Then we waited another 20 minutes for the bill. Get it together, people - it's Labor Day weekend on a beautiful stretch of highway. You're going to get groups. If you can't serve groups in a reasonable period of time, then turn them away.

Both the food, and the service were excellent! Although, Orofino is a small town so there are not many options, that does not always equate to a delicious dinner. Dining on The Edge is true to its name, as it is literally dining on the edge of the river. I had the cheeseburger and it was quite good, as were the fries, which had a nice seasoning to it. The staff was great, no complaints at all. Definitely worth the money spent to dine here! I don't think you can go wrong.

I was traveling through Orofino and spent the night at the Best Western, which is next door from this affiliated restaurant. It is a nice setting overlooking the river, with both in door and outdoor seating. After being seated for several minutes, my server arrived and apologized for my wait. His explanation was that the person that seated me, did not inform him that he had a new customer. The good news was by now, I had able opportunity to go over the menu several times, and after over hearing the rather attentive waitress take the orders of the two couples at the table next to me, I already knew what the choices of salad dressings, vegetables, etc. where. I ordered a cocktail and my meal at the same time. Much to my surprise the salad arrived before my cocktail. The cocktail glass had a rather large chip in the glass, so big that it was surprising that a place that is this "pricey" would even use such a vessel. I ordered the filet mignon, which was quite tasty. However, although I had ordered it medium rare, it came out medium well done, just barely pink. Had the server followed up after the food runner served it, I may have sent it back, but, after a long day on the road, I just ate it. About half way through, I did have the opportunity to ask Jacob " in what universe is this considered medium rare?" He did apologize and did provide a 15% discount on the entree, as well as buying me an after diner Gran Mariner to make up for the over cooked main course. IMHO, this place has the potential to be good.

My husband and I arrived late in Orofino one night during Labor Day weekend. There was no room availability in the area. We were exhausted after driving all day and decided to get something to eat and figure out what to do. We then asked our server, Francy, if she knew of a place we could stay. She went completely out of her way and called all over town for us. The room she found was really nice and comfortable. We were so grateful and continued to talk about her for the remainder of our cross-country trip. Every time something bad would happen we'd say, "I wish Francy were here!" .......the fish tacos were yummy too!

My husband and I came in for dinner on a rainy Monday night. I ordered the French dip sandwich along with a shrimp cocktail appetizer. My husband ordered the mahi-mahi street tacos and a side of onion rings. The French dip sandwich was piping hot and the shrimp appetizer was quite yummy. The street tacos were excellent as were the onion rings. The waitress recommended the Clearwater 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon which was very smooth and exceptional. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and the food was delivered in a timely manner. We had a relaxing dinner and a great view of the river. We would definitely visit here again.

The restaurant was next door to the hotel, and it was recommend by a local as the best option in town. I was in the mood for a steak & I ordered the Filet Mignon. I noticed the price was pretty high for a small town, but I rolled the dice. I confirmed that their medium was pink & not red. Unfortunately, what I received was purple and cold in the center. It was a nice cut of the loin, but being so thick, they should have considered a butterfly cut & cooked it that way. In the end, the setting was nice, the rest of the meal was nice, and my friend, who ordered the stuffed chicken, and said it was a wonderful dish. I would revisit the restaurant as it was the nicest the town had to offer, but I will definitely look at other menus choices.

The atmosphere is nice and the staff are attentive, however, I feel like the food isn't as good as it was a few years ago. I've ordered the artichoke dip a couple times recently and there was about an inch of oil to get through before you get to the dip. It's not a place I would go on a regular basis due to the price of drinks and food. I understand it's fancy dinning and that's great for a once in a while visit. I'll continue to go but not on a frequent basis.

Not just seafood! Prime Rib tough and not much flavor though. Coconut shrimp was excellent. Sides dishes were great. Quiet and wonderful setting.

Our waitress was very scatter brained and forgot our appetizer. She had to ask what I order was multiple times because she couldn't remember. The clam chowder was good and the view & atmosphere was amazing!! I wasn't very impressed with the fettuccine I ordered.

Wonderful food. Friendly service. Great experience. Both outside and inside dining areas are open. The outside terrace overlooks the River.

We had been on vacation for almost a month and we were ready for a nice dinner. They did not disappoint. Food was terrific especially the scallops. Our waitress and other staff members were so kind with our 7 month old. I definitely recommend trying them out, btw the view is incredible!!!!

We love coming here. Never had a bad meal! Excellent food. Friendly service, relaxing atmosphere.

Our son came home so we decided to go for a nice dinner out. The hostess seated us was not very friendly in fact rude and it took 18 minutes to get a waitress to come to take our drink order. Another 15 to get the drink and our food order. There was a table with 4 people at it and no one else in the dining area. The staff standing around whispering and not doing thier jobs. Oh two meal were right but one was wrong. I order steak and got chicken. The waitress didn't even asked to take it back . The vegetables were over cooked my potatoes were cold. By this time I wouldn't of sent it back in fear of how long it would take.This was not the only time this has happen. My family and I do not plan on having dinner there anymore. I heard it had changed manager so that why I thought I would try it again but no more.

For the local region this is the premier place to enjoy a high end meal. Service is good, and as expected the local atmosphere includes kind personable flavor. I recommend this to anyone that is looking for a nice time out with a spice of elegance.

What a fantastic meal! Everything was fresh and cooked perfect. The veggies and salad were fresh and amazing! The entree was cooked perfect and very flavorful. The staff was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Everything we had was delicious!! The view is amazing, as well. We will be back when back in the area!

I have been here several times before and had a fairly nice meal but what a disappointment for dinner tonight. My husband was taking me out for a nice dinner. Even with a half full restaurant, we waited for 20 minutes for drinks. Menu prices were all inflated but we picked prime rib and stuffed mushrooms appetizer. Waitress came back - no prime rib. Ordered halibut - one broiled and one panko crusted. Had to ask for our bread - after our soup and salad finally came. Appetizer of stuffed mushrooms was over cooked and dry. Finally got the entree only to find the broiled halibut so overcooked and dry it was inedible. Tried to get waitress's attention to get some sauce. Finally after the fish was cold the waitress came over. I requested tartar sauce but the fish was still so dry, it was hard to swallow. Rice pilaf was flavorless. Waitress offered to give a discount but I know businesses are struggling. I would just like to pay for edible food. Nice green salad but the cook is definitely not putting out meals worth coming back for. I understand there are challenges due to the current situation, but this went beyond what should be overlooked. Waitress was very nice and apologetic but she didn't cook the the meal. I hope the kitchen makes changes. I won't return any time soon.

Yummy food and great service. My husband and I recently dined here for our anniversary. I love, love the fresh bread they served as a starter with maple butter. It is on the pricier side but the portions are very generous. I had crab legs and my husband had a full rack of ribs. The only thing I can ding them for is my husband said the ribs were a little on the dry side. My meal was perfect and our server was really attentive. Our drinks never ran out and she checked on us frequently without being over bearing. Definitely enjoyed this place.

Picked up some great meals, had some amazing bacon wrapped prawns, nachos, crab & shrimp melts, and burgers. Great bar staff.

Our server was very helpful, pleasant and did a great job. Food was prepared perfectly. Our food was good. I had bite size steak. Wife had chicken Oscar. It was my parent's 50th anniversary and I think the staff went above and beyond to make their dining experience special. Thank you!!

Best prime rib ever! Very generous serving, great wine and dessert. Excellent and friendly server. We were there on a Saturday night. We always eat here when passing through, about once a year. We stay at the hotel next door just so we can easily eat here. I'm impressed with how well the owner/manager has been able to operate an upscale restaurant in a small town for several years. It can't be easy. The weather had turned cold, so we were not able to sit outside, but in the Summer, that's the place to be, on the deck, looking out at the river.

This is an excellent local restaurant with great river view and outdoor seating when weather is nice. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Fine dining in a community of 2,500 people? Most people think that's not possible but Sandy has created just that on the Clearwater River and Lewis-Clark trail. Personable wait staff and you can choose privacy or enjoy the views and socialize with other diners in the main dining area, deck or bar. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars to this review is because for my palate, last time I perused the menu, the pasta dishes appeared to dominate the menu. However, I've not been back in awhile & that may have evolved as all good restaurants do! Full bar, and if you're a loyal customer, nicely ask if there's a particular libation that you know and can attest to, then it may show up. In fact, husband and partner Michael may just bring it from across town. Good food, good fun, good people...you can't ask for more than that!

We come here whenever we come to Orofino for state baseball or softball and it is amazing every time!! Their salmon and fish and chips is the best! It is worth the money!

Never have I been to a restaurant that seats a couple and doesn't make it back to the table in the 20 plus minutes we sat there. I cannot comment on the food or drink as we never managed to order either. Obvioously though, the service was the worst I've ever known.

I love stopping here whenever I'm back home. Awesome location right at the rivers edge. The staff are always friendly, and I always enjoy the food! A great place to for family and friends!

Beautiful view, terrible food that is extremely slow to come out. Our poor waitress tried so hard but the kitchen took over an hour to make our food. Whatever you do, do not get the shrimp and crab melt. It was the most disgusting thing my husband and I had eaten in the recent past. Small shrimp (very fishy tasting) plopped on burned toast with a small amount of "crab meat" and a tiny bit of cheese.

Food was good. Not sure about fine dining though. Our waitress was snooty, rude, and had the personality of a rock. Great cheesecake, and steak was good.

The restaurant is conveniently located next the the Best Western hotel and has a lovely view of the river. We ate two dinners at the restaurant. The first evening the service was excellent and the food was adequate. The second evening, the service was poor with long waits and the food was very disappointing. My husband ordered the filet mignon cooked medium. The cut of meat was lovely but is was cooked well beyond well done to the point that it was almost inedible. We pointed this issue out to the waitress who said she would make it right but then took no action and gave us our full bill.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. I found it when I googled restaurants in Orofino. We sat outside over looking the river. So beautiful! The food is outstanding. Looking forward to dining here again.

It was a gorgeous restaurant and the waitress was very friendly but that's about all I can say. I am a vegetarian and requested mushrooms on my fettuccine instead of the three meat choices they had. They happily obliged but then charged me for the most expensive meat fettuccine they had. $25.99 for some noodles with mushrooms on it is insane! My daughter had the kids spaghetti with meat sauce which was as big as mine for $5.95. Really?? When I asked if they could compensate the price they refused. In addition my husband's prime rib was terrible and the spring rolls were costco spring rolls for $12.95. Don't waste your money here, the view does not make up for the cost.

I was sadly disappointed in this restaurant. I will make this quick. We spent over $100 on food for two and expected, at the least, an edible meal. The appetizer was frozen in the middle and the waitress just took it and put it in the microwave and brought it back to the table. I ordered a halibut dish and I literally had to cut it with a steak knife. It was the worst halibut I have ever tried to eat, one bite and I was done. The vegetable side dish was a frozen veggie medley that I am pretty sure was heated in the microwave and not heated thoroughly. The staff was unresponsive to my complaint. Needless to say we will not be returning and would not recommend it to others.
