"A UNESCO World Heritage site, this 1,700-year-old palace sits on the Adriatic seafront, serving as the focal point of Split. It was built by the Roman emperor Diocletian as a seaside retirement home and has served as a refuge for many a conqueror over the centuries. Today, some 2,000 locals reside within the compound’s thick walls, making it a lively urban quarter. Getting lost in the labyrinth of surrounding streets is the best way to explore downtown Split—as you meander around, you’ll stumble across lively cafés and shops tucked into millennia-old buildings. Be sure to check out the Peristil, an imperial square framed by two colonnades, where Diocletian used to address the public. Towering above the square is Split’s major landmark—a 187-foot-tall belfry that you can climb for panoramic views of town."

A wonderful historical site! We visited around 7 pm and were able to get tickets right away. It was such a pleasure to stroll through the palace without the crowds.

Fantastic history. Careful of the slippery tiles, smoothed from centuries of use. The architecture is amazing and we spent a good day wandering around. Early morning is better 'before' the crowds Buy the 50euro 3 day pass in advance

Definitely worth visiting. Some of the oldest still used buildings in the world. I recommend buying a ticket for the tower - great views of the city and a great way to see how old architecture is mixed with more modern buildings across the old town.

Absolutely mesmerizing! Visiting Diocletian’s Palace was like stepping into a living time capsule. The blend of ancient Roman architecture with modern-day cafes, shops, and homes is truly one of a kind. Every corner had a story, every stone echoed history. Wandering through the narrow alleys, I was captivated by the preserved structures, the underground cellars, and the vibrant energy of the Old Town built right into the ruins. Sunset over the palace walls? Unforgettable! Don’t miss the Peristyle Square, the Temple of Jupiter, and the underground halls — each part feels like a scene from a movie. Highly recommended for history lovers, photographers, and anyone who wants to feel the magic of ancient Split come alive. An iconic gem in Croatia — I’d go back in a heartbeat! 🇭🇷✨

Gorgeous place full of history. Must see for 100%. Only questions for the lady who is working on tickets. She could be nice and explain what she's selling. It's your job,we didn't ask to bring us coffee, only tell more about tickets. Otherwise, the view from the Bell tower is fabulous .

A typical tourist hot spot in Split, yet still impressive in the positive energy it holds (and hands out, passes on) when visiting. You find the “pay for a foto” Roman’s, the impressive temple with rich symbolism, the overgrown ruins with remains recently discovered. Somehow you arrive there and something within you silently is in awe and opens in reverence. There were many people and we are both not too much into crowds, but it was a memorable visit and one you definitely shouldn’t miss visiting Split.

Absolutely amazing! If you are in the area you have to stop! I would recommend getting a tour and you can pay to enter some extra but even just walking around is cool
