Alex is our hero, he is the best waiter! The portions here are large for the prices. The chicken tenders were juicy and good. The fried bone in chicken was dry. We did not enjoy the bacon gravy it was oddly sweet. The house ketchup was good. Oh and the okra was awesome!

Google
Food was delicious!!! Chicken was crispy, potatoes were creamy, gumbo was fantastic, drinks never went empty!!! The only complaint is the 2.7% service charge to use a card… I recommend bringing cash

George Torres

Google
Fantastic restaurant. We got the traditional chicken strips and the Korean Fried Chicken. Both of them were so good! Alex served us and he was very attentive of our table and helped us decide what to get, as it was our first time and we are from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He recommended some various sauces, which were all good, but that house ketchup is something else - I'm not even a big ketchup fan, but this was next level! This will definitely be a go-to spot for us any time we're in town. Highly recommend!

Google
OMG One of the best meals on this trip and an unexpected surprise. The Korean chicken was delicious- a little spicy but not overwhelming- juice and tender. The chicken tenders were perfectly cooked moist inside and a satisfying crunch with Dirk's signature sauce. And a wide choice of sides - first place goes to the collard greens - I usually avoid from many bad ones, but these were the best I've ever had. On a road trip for a one night stop over searched a long time for a spot that wasn't pub grub or pizzas or burgers or a a chain - this was a very lucky find. Lots of locals agree. The wait staff was friendly and fun and prompt- the tricefta. If you are within 100 miles ' eat here.

Google
Run don’t walk to this spot! Food was next level and service was great. Can’t believe we found this gem in Lubbock of all places. Couldn’t decide between the Nashville hot and the Korean chicken, so got both! Plates were empty.

Google
The chicken here is super crispy, juicy, and tasty. However that is where the positives about the food end for me and my dinner companion personally. The chicken fried steak tenders were chewy and the breading fell off right away and what breading managed to stay on wasn’t cooked. It was mushy and frankly gross. The gravy was super watery and not pleasant. The grits were so thick and unyielding it came out of its little cup in a cube and stayed that way for a while which weirded me out. And finally, the shaved brussel sprouts looks like baby food and I didn’t even try it it looked so gross to me. Overall, the service was good, the facility was good, and the chicken tenders were good. None of that is enough to return.

Google
Everything was amazing! Service was wonderful, restaurant was clean, bathrooms clean. My husband has celiac disease and they were able to make the chicken tenders gluten free, and the chicken fried steak (we ordered the tenders) The server said the gluten free items were fried separately than everything else, along with the fries… which is something that is hard to come by for someone with celiac. Everything tasted amazing!! My Husband left very happy and with no allergic reactions. I would recommend if you need somewhere tasty and have celiac. (I shared with him so I can’t speak on everything else, but the fries were a 10/10!) He loved the tenders.

Google
The servers were very attentive, but the quality of the food was a huge letdown for the price and advertising, and the order came out wrong. The food wasn't terrible exactly, but definitely not the quality I'd have expected for a sit down place. If I'd gotten it out of a truck, I would've at least been able to say, "Well, I don't know what I expected. I got it out of a truck," but this place markets itself as kind of a trendy sit-down place, and most of the sides still clearly came out of a can and were unseasoned. It's cute enough inside, if a little cold and sterile. If it was a greasy hole-in-the-wall, the food would still have been a let-down, but less so. In this environment it was completely baffling.

Yelp
Don't let the small menu deter you from coming to dirks. I have had multiple dishes and it is always amazing. The portions are HUGE. I would advise anyone with a small appetite to split a meal. The chicken is super juicy and tender and they have tons of different sauce options. I definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Ok this place was stinking great !!!! Every sauce we tried was home made and different than any other restaurants even the gravy was unique ! Fried okra , cheese grits , & mash pot gravy were all items that tasted unique in that I've not had anything like it ! Delicious ! Chicken is so much food you can easily share as well . I don't eat oysters but our family said best they've had .

Yelp
Full disclosure: I'm on a Nashville hot chicken kick right now. For the past year+ I've sought out myriad venues as I travel for work around the nation. Honest reflection--if I could transplant this amazing fried chicken joint to my hometown, I would in a second. What a find; an absolute gem of Lubbock! I've tried several of Dirk's offerings, but I think my favorite is the sauce tray. For a meager $2 you can sample every sauce available; a condiment lover's dream! Don't get me wrong, the chicken is delish, fries, additional sides are solid. Service is prompt and succinct, and the venue is no fancier than it need be. I appreciate Yelper Justin T. who shared the history and social media support for Dirk's origin. Also agree with Yelper Paul S. and others who identify the lack of napkins, wet-naps, or other necessities of a fried chicken joint. Not sure why they skimp in this area?

Demetrius N.

Yelp
Amazing bone in fried chicken. I'm a fried chicken aficionado and this place ranks up there. Authentic fried chicken. I'm sure the Nashville Hot is great as well. Mashed potatoes were incredible. 5 star for this place

Yelp
You have to eat here! Amazing gluten free chicken that they seem to be very careful about. Not a lot of sides to choose from that are gf (and I don't eat pork) but what I could eat was delicious.

Yelp
Was here on business and found this place and decided to give it a try. Place was alive when entering and full of people. We were able to sit down immediately and received drinks shortly after. Food came out piping hot was pretty good. I ordered the chicken fried Steak fingers with double fries. The jalapeño gravy was really good and the portion size was very filling. Prices were very reasonable and service was super prompt and always checked in. Definitely would come back again to hang out for some more beers and quick bite when visiting again.

Yelp
Food - Outstanding!!! If you enjoy steak fingers or chicken fingers this place cannot be beat! Huge portions and cooked to perfection. Hint- order the Grits as a side item. They are outstanding, too. Service - friendly, engaging and prompt without being annoying. Ambiance - very nice and laid back! Check out all the art work of the legendary Dirk West that comes vets the west wall. This is worth the trip alone.

Yelp
Great food. Large portions. Very customer-service oriented. RETURN again when in Lubbock, TX.

Yelp
Probably as good of food as you can get in Waco, it's clearly catered towards college students but it's got some fun decor, good service, prices, and decent food. We got the hot chicken and a number of sides (okra, green beans, brussels). While the hot chicken was covered in seasoning and somewhat oily, I would hardly say it was hot or even spicy. It tasted pretty good, but tabasco probably or jalapenos on the side probably would have been hotter. The brussels were ok, but moreso broiled than crispy, and similar with the green beans. The okra was nicely crunchy, and the drinks we had were good as well. All in all, better than we expected!

Yelp
Food good people were good before now I can drink because medication problems wanted to go eat a good meal but the bartender didn't like we had water bottles from out side so we had to walk out of there don't like water because I can't drink alcohol that sad all restaurants sale alcohol don't cry like he did about water when we buy food sad bad customer service

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here. Pretty quick in and out. Sauce tray was a cool addition

Yelp
Today my wife and I decided to go and eat here. Food is always good. Now the service was terrible. First off, not even 5 minutes in getting our food, we are being asked if we needed boxes to go. We couldn't even get a refill on our drinks unless we asked for it. Now what really pissed me off was that my wife wasn't even finished with her food when the waiter just took her plate without even asking her if she was done with it. I don't understand why they are so much in a hurry to get you out of there. I'm pretty sure they can do better!!

Yelp
Dirk's showed up on my radar after seeing an episode on The Texas Bucket List showcasing this place. My son goes to Texas Tech so on my last visit to Lubbock, I made sure to check Dirk's out. Dirk's was created by a chef to honor his grandpa Dirk who was a former mayor of Lubbock and the artist behind all the Tech cartoons plastered over all the walls of this place. I would call it an elevated diner specializing in chicken dishes. Like literally, that is all they sell here along with sides. We walked in and was told to seat ourselves. The staff seemed to be alot of college kids who were very friendly and attentive. We did have to ask for things like utensils and napkins which would normally be given when seated. When we did get napkins, it was just one lonely napkin. Come on now, its a chicken spot, I need lots of napkins. First world problems I guess. On to the food. I couldn't decide on what to get because everything that passed by our table looked good. I let the employee pick and he told me to go with the Nashville Hot Chicken if I wanted something spicy. That was exactly what I was looking for. This particular dish came with one side while most of the others come with two sides. I went with fries because I read they were good here. I also added a side of Fried Okra because I love me some okra. Usually I wouldn't complain about my food coming out quick, but it came out super quick here. My first thought was that the food was already made and temps wouldn't be idea. I was mostly right as far as the temps go. The fries and chicken were warm to touch. I was expecting piping hot fried chicken. The okra was freshly made as I had to let it cool down a bit. All that being said, the food was absolutely delicious though. First off, you get 4 pieces of chicken. A leg, thigh, wing and breast. I was only here for a night and wasn't taking home leftovers, so I picked at all the pieces. They were all perfectly cooked, seasoned throughout and so tasty. It definitely packed some heat, so beware. The fries were hand cut, seasoned just right and tasty. If both the chicken and fries were a little hotter, I would've gave this place a 5. The okra ruined any future fried okra for me as it was the best fried okra I've ever had. They were cooked whole, crispy and seasoned absolutely perfectly. It was a little expensive as a side, but a very generous portion. I did my best with the meal but barely put a dent in it before giving up. Another thing I did not like was that they served canned drinks. For this kind of meal I need refills. They have a full bar so I don't know why they don't have drink dispensers. Overall, minus the food being lukewarm, the food was one of the better meals I have had in Lubbock. I would definitely come back!

Bernadette O.

Yelp
The food was awesome. I went with the less popular option, the rotisserie chicken. The portions were generous and I enjoyed a local cider.

Viktoria H.

Yelp
Great food. It's a neat place in the sense that its not your typical chicken strip place. They only serve chicken so if you're in the mood for something else, don't go here. BUT I would always highly recommend. They give large portion sizes and have some great sides and sauces.

Yelp
Despite the long wait, the fried chicken and steak fingers were fantastic! The dining area is a little loud, so makes it hard to carry a conversation. Excellent selection of bourbon from the bar. Overall, the great food makes up for the slow service.

Beybun C.

Yelp
Service, food and ambiance are perfect! Nashville and Korean chicken and special beer... you should try that. Just perfect!!!

Yelp
We came here on our way to Albuquerque for the weekend. I read about it and naturally had to try it and I'm so glad we did. It is such a fun place. They have a limited menu which means that what they do, they do well. They have lots of local beers which I enjoyed. We got the Korean chicken and it was top notch and big enough to share which we did. The mashed potatoes and jalapeño gravy were a bit of a let down. I was hopeful for them but they pretty much just tasted like straight onion. I was hoping for more jalapeño flavor. But other than that it was great!

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving this a two is because the service and chicken tenders were awesome. I had the combo with fries and some kind of corn. The fries were really soggy and the seasoning was too much, they sucked. The chicken steak was too salty and tough to eat. I also was not pleased with the dipping sauce, it was horrible and the honey mustard was the same. I only ate the tenders and corn, what a waste of money because they are expensive. My wife had some kind of shrimp with grits that looked like a cow patty on a piece of paper not a bowl. I thought that was really unhealthy, so maybe they should serve this dish in a plate or bowl for future customers because I will never eat at this establishment again. Well, let me tell you if you want a nice peaceful meal don't eat here. It's very noisy!!! I should have taken some pictures but at the time it wasn't worth it, I just wanted out of there.

Brian B.

Yelp
Dirks is amazing! Some of the best chicken I have ever eaten. Great food, service, and atmosphere :)
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
My family had a great experience here! I have celiac and struggle to eat in small towns, so I was thrilled to see that Dirk's had gluten free fried chicken. I was sure it would be pretty limited, but I was delighted when the server told me all but 2 meal items & 2 sides could be made gluten free! We ordered gluten free everything for the table, and I enjoyed the most delicious fried chicken I've had since my diagnosis, and shared the chicken fried steak fingers dipped in amazing cheese grits. The sweet tea was great, too! After we ate, the chef came out and asked how we liked our food and told us about their other restaurants with gluten free options, which we'll have to find on our next trip into town. So thankful for a yummy chill restaurant where I can eat the food surrounded by Lubbock local decor!

Yelp
Great service. Very attentive & friendly staff. As for the food. Just as excellent. I was in for lunch so my plan was to go lite but the menu had some things that quirked my interests so I had to indulge. I tried the tenders which were very good. Cooked to perfection. Paired with honey mustard & the dirk's signature sauce. My preference was definitely honey mustard over the latter. The star of my meal was the gumbo. It was a side, but to me, best thing on my plate. Very flavorful & good portion for a side. The mash potatoes were good too I think it had jalapeño gravy but no spice at all just flavor. I honestly will probably never have the chance to visit Lubbock again but I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
best food i've ever had in my life! i come here at least a few times a week to get some chicken, grits, and sweet chili sauce. tea and drinks are amazing too. service is great, atmosphere is cool and casual although it does get a bit loud especially during busy times. overall this is my favorite spot in lubbock, check it out if you want some incredible chicken!
google avatar

Yelp
Passing thru from SF area and not generally super exited about chicken, but this chicken blew me away. I had the Korean flavored version (KFC it's called) and it was the best chicken I've ever had (and I'm 70yo). The meat was perfect but it was the skin and flavor that really knocked it out of the park. The skin was the perfect crispiness and the rice was a nice compliment. Perfect amount of spice too. Excellent!!! And my waiter at the bar (Austin) couldn't have been nicer.

Jenni P.

Yelp
The KFC was delicious! The place was a really neat atmosphere and loved looking at all the doodles by dirk! Service was great and polite!
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of good food. Service is ok. One would think to bring lots of napkins with such a finger food. Very bar like. Very noisy.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing Southern comfort food here. Sunday brunch was packed- only one or two open tables and the bar was full. Beverage wise, my Bkft brown ale on tap was tasty & my wife liked her #43 cocktail. We split the chicken fried steak (fingers). They were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and very juicy. The gravy was a masterpiece. The sides may just be the star. The cajun corn was spectacular and included flavor-explosion pieces of sausage, and the brussell sprouts and green beans were both superb. Worth a stop for some outstanding reasonably priced food.
google avatar

Ami S.

Yelp
That's it. I'm calling the police. The food here is so good someone should go to jail. It is unreal. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. The bar was almost full but I managed to snag a spot. I don't drink but the drinks looked yummy. I got the rotisserie chicken with fried okra and Brussels sprouts. I wasn't a fan of the Brussels sprouts so I asked to change it to fries and I'm so glad I did. The fries are phenomenal. And paired with the house made ketchup they are Devine (and reheat perfectly in the air fryer). My bartender/waiter and his bar back were prompt , helpful and very friendly. The walls are lined with dorks art, and we're an entertaining tour of lubbock history. It's a casual place, a little loud and it filled up while I was there but everyone looked to be having a good time and some even said hi as I was looking at the illustrations near their table. I am dragging my boyfriend here next time and getting the KFC and making him get the chicken fried steak. I wish I had 8 stomachs so I could eat more!

Yelp
Hair in my Bone-In Fried Chicken...first bite! Gah! It's a super windy, cold day and it blows into location full blast...even leaves on floor. It's freezing in here. Food got cold fast. Especially okra. Or it came to table cold... Nice people. Bathroom was clean. Music kinda loud for visiting with family. Pictures are funny. As expected. Brussels sprouts have vinegar taste. Creamed corn has that Louisiana sausage in it. I guess I'm more into Texas cooking. Family member didn't care for cheddar grits. Green beans a bit hard to eat. They are a long green bean in a little small bowl. A bit hard to cut inside the bowl and awkward to pour out on the tray. Got charged wrong. Maybe large group too complicated for them here.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dirk's in Lubbock, and I have to say, their chicken fried steak was some of the best I've ever had! The steak was perfectly cooked, with a crispy, flavorful breading and tender, juicy meat. The gravy was rich and savory, and the sides were delicious as well. But what really put my meal over the top were the sauces. I got to try a few different ones, including the classic white gravy, a tangy honey mustard, and their own special house sauce. All of them were really tasty, and added an extra dimension of flavor to the already delicious chicken fried steak. The atmosphere at Dirk's is classic and cozy, with a real homey feel. The staff were friendly and attentive, making for a great overall dining experience. I appreciated that they made me feel right at home and were able to give me recommendations on other dishes to try. Great Texas beer on tap and this place was busy so the secret is out. Cheese Grits and Gumbo for sides is the move. If you're in the mood for some classic Texas comfort food, I highly recommend giving Dirk's a try. Their chicken fried steak and sauces are not to be missed!
google avatar

Doug F.

Yelp
Food was ok Service was ok Drinks were good Atmosphere was ok Overall ok. I'd go back. What could they do to make it better? Improve the sides. Add more TVs for a better game day/sports bar environment. KFC was delicious, but oversauced. And last but not least, clean clean clean. The floors were dirty and the bathroom was worse (think truck stop).

Addison G.

Yelp
Unique atmosphere and great food! We loved all the sauces to try and enjoyed the okra the most! One plate with extra sides were great for 2 to share. Wish there was a backstory on the menu or in the front of the building about Dirk West to learn more about the history of the place and person! Would be a fun addition to the experience!

Yelp
The food is very good, just like Cameron's other restaurants here in Lubbock. Food quality is very good. However, just like his other restaurants, the noise levels are almost unacceptable. Note to Cameron: do something to soften the noise levels in your restaurant, dude, because it is just barely tolerable.

Yelp
Funny story...my husband has been asking to try Dirks for months, but I always kind of poo pooed the idea because I kind of imagined something like Canes (not to say I don't like Canes.) Fried chicken, with a side of fries...maybe bread? Basically an all white, no veggie plate. Joke was on me though. We finally went one night-because it was Father's Day and I wanted to be a good sport...and I LOVED IT! So much so, I've been back two more times since then. I have a thing for the KFC, aka, Korean Fried Chicken, so I always get that. In fact, my mouth is watering and my stomach is rumbling just thinking about it, BUT, I make sure to talk at least someone at the table into getting the chicken fried steak, AKA, steak fingers so I can share. I like Dirks so much, I could go on and on, but instead, I'll just list my most important takeaways. 1. Good food, but go early. It's real food and they do run out of things. 2. I love whole fried okra. 3. The tea is fresh, clear GOOD tea like my grandma made. 4. The house made ketchup is amazing. 5. It's a loud restaurant during peak hours.Think Texas Roadhouse. I can't remember if there was music, but there was definitely a dull roar. 6. My husband kinda wishes they had straight up white gravy. Their's is jalapeño something or other. If you're a gravy purist, you'll need to smuggle some in. 7. They have plain old squeeze bottle ketchup-for picky AF kids who aren't hip enough to try the house made version. 8. There is a bar-if you want drinks with dinner. 9. Don't be dumb like me and sleep on a place like Dirks because you imagine a Canes/Buffalo Wild Wings-type setup. Dirks is NOT THAT. It's Torchy's southern brother...Damn Good Chicken.

Tammy C.

Yelp
Best food ever! Consistent and always delicious. My only request is I would love to see more sides. I love a good vegetable with my chicken.
google avatar

Bailey F.

Yelp
WE LOVE DIRKS! Stopped by for lunch today at Dirks. Service was wonderful, food was great, beer was rocking, & atmosphere was fun! One of my favorite lunch stops in downtown lubbock!
google avatar

Ben G.

Yelp
On my second attempt to eat here I actually did. On first try, we ran afoul of their rule against take out orders after 5 pm. OK, now. Food was good. Quite a few southern-based sides that missed the mark. They were good but almost each one tried to do this spicy thing which got old. Maybe a couple spicy side but not 80% of them. Really needed a good biscuit or cornbread to balance meals. Margarita was excellent. Excellent fried chicken.
google avatar

Jakki J.

Yelp
I way overhyped this place in my head. We tried to go here on moving day and it was packed. So we ended up going to Spanky's. We finally got to try this place and it was okay. I don't really have any specific complaint to just was okay. I ordered the KFC chicken. I thought it was a little too sweet.

Chloe L.

Yelp
Literally no seasoning to the chicken bone in or chicken tenders. Gumbo was ok. Eh wouldn't recommend
google avatar

Adix B.

Yelp
Came to Dirk's at around 2:30pm on a Saturday, and it was like, half-full! That seemed like a good sign, so we stayed. My wife was looking for a salad, but ain't no green happenin' in here. Pretty much ALL fried food. Southern Comfort, folks. The food is delish. All made-from-scratch chicken or chicken-fried-steak stuff, with Soul Food, Comfort Food sides. Fried (longways-cut!) okra, cheddar grits (not very good, too bad), nicely-spiced fries (good), lots of side sauces from which to choose (Dirk's sauce is like a spicy Chick-Fil-A sauce and is good; the Nashville Hot sauce, when on the side, notsomuch.) My only real critique on the whole experience was the automatic 20% gratuity added by the waitress. She was Ok, and I always tip more than 20% because of my large family, but it was just that . . . I have eight children, so our party was two adults and seven of said children . . . and she put grat on there. I will not tip over forced gratuity on principle alone, especially because IT'S JUST MY FAMILY, not a bunch of singles or coupled-up adults. Not cool; lose a star for that.

Yelp
Always excellent. The chicken fried steak strips are what dreams are made of. And the greens? Yummmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you try one of their cocktails. Matt makes the best Manhattan in the city. Seriously. It's fabulous!

Mark D.

Yelp
Chicken was good. We ordered the KFC, rotisserie and combo plates. The rotisserie chicken was very good some of the best rotisserie I've had. The chicken strips and steak fingers were very good and not dry which is hard to do for some places. The KFC was both a hit and a miss for me. If these were wings done up this way, I believe it would be much better, as opposed to full chicken pieces. The sauce was good, but a bit salty and overwhelmed the chicken. Waitstaff needs to recognize the mess the chicken will make and bring a pile of napkins. Also don't like it when I have to waive down a waitress to refill my drink. Sides were very good. Some of the best fried okra I've had and I really liked the gravy served with the mashed potatoes and strips.

Dustyn W.

Yelp
Great comfort food! My family really enjoyed eating here. Seeing Mr. West's historical Southwest Conference cartoons also was a treat.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, service was perfect, every dish had great flavors. I highly recommend the rotisserie chicken, cheddar grits and brussels sprouts !
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Best fried chicken in town for certain. I enjoy the atmosphere, usually the place is pretty busy but service has always been great. They have awesome drinks as well, I would recommend trying the chilton (Official drink of Lubbock)! You can't go wrong with the mashed potato's on the side! And ranch lovers rejoice! They have some of the best home made ranch that I have tried! Great place.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Love their gluten-free chicken strips - best I've found. The room is a bit loud so conversation can be hard, but it's worth it for the food.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
I really think it was too salty... chicken was salty, green beans, salty, mashed potatoes, salt... sorry I was not a fan.

Tasha T.

Yelp
Food way waayyy too salty. Nice gumbo if there wasn't as much salt. I probably won't come again for the chicken but I would try the shrimp and grits!
