More than a bike shop, Dirty River leads regular group rides—like the Sunday Yeti Squad—and keeps Akron pedaling on the Towpath and city streets. A reliable hub for the cycling community, noted on city event calendars.

Super happy with the service here, everyone is really laid back and very friendly. The shop is in a nice location and it's a cool place to visit. I took my commuter bike to them to have tirgger shifters installed and a tune-up; night and day difference to ride now. They took a couple days longer to finish than they stated, but not a super big deal, since they warned me they have been swamped lately. Hope to be back to buy a new bike at some point in the future.

As soon as you walk in the door you feel like you are with friends you just hadn't met yet. Great service! They rebuilt my 2010 Surly LHT that had about 15,000 miles on it. They worked around my schedule prioritizing what it needed to get me back on the bike for an out-of-state trip and then finished the job a couple weeks later - again under a deadline for an out-of-town trip. I casually mentioned that the seatpost was stuck and they said they would take a look at it. Well it was more than stuck it was coldwelded in the seat tube. But they were determined to get it unstuck which they did through some really innovative techniques. That's the bike, and Yoo-Hoo the Adventure Dog enjoying the ride.

Had no clue the death trap I had my bike in lol thankfully it wasn’t super expensive and the service was outstanding. Thank you again! Definitely recommend this place if your biking downtown.

Awesome local bike shop with local values and an appreciation for the city and surrounding areas. They will not upsell you, no high pressure, and they are active in the community. Knowledgable, fun, and fast service

This place is awesome! They weren’t pushy about sales, they had a lot of options, they fixed my tire on my bike and even gave me some really great advice about bike care/hardware upgrades. I really enjoyed my experience and have already referred a few others here.

Reasonable, willing to take on reasonable challenges even if you purchased elsewhere. The customer service is willing to help the community, like a local business should. This shop has a lot of younger guys who aren't unfamiliar with the Akron bike scene as well. They are an evolving and growing shop that earned my business.

I took my bike in for two flat tires after a sad day of riding cut short. First time in the store and the guys were awesome. They did a once over on my bike and saw some other things that could use some work and due to budget I had to get an estimate first. I was honestly shocked at how affordable all the work would be. When I came back to get my bike it looked like it had gotten detailed! Thing looked more than brand new. I think my favorite part is just not being rushed in the store. Chopping it up with a guy who has an obvious passion for bikes. I’m a weekend warrior at best and I have fun doing it with my kids and it was fun to just share something we both enjoyed without the “next customer” mindset a lot of business’ have. Shout out “Ben #2” and the gang. I’ll see you guys soon, hopefully for a gnarly Sunday ride

Had a custom bike build last year with Dirty River and the bike was perfect for me (see pic).! After 3000 plus miles and two biking trips planned for the following weeks, rear derailleur broke so I went and saw Otis. Went out of his way to quickly put on new chain, cassette and rear derailleur so I could have my bike for the trips. Awesome bike shop, awesome people who work there, but most importantly, real bike guys who are real bike experts, unlike many other places. Would highly recommend to anyone buying, building or maintaining a bike.

Yelp
Fantastic experience everytime I stop in at Dirty River Bicycle works! I bought a gravel bike from them about a year ago and go to them for all my service and repair issues. All the staff is very friendly- I typically work with Ryan or Ben. Very personable and knowledgeable. I think sometimes when you go to a bike or other specialty sport shop there can be a level of judgement or pompousness if you are a relative novice, but not at Dirty River. I always feel like I can ask them any question and not feel judged. They make the buying, repair, and maintenance processes all educational and supportive. Thanks for the great work! Will be continuing to use them for all my bike needs.

Yelp
Visiting the area from out of state, my wife's bike had a tire failure as we were riding out of the parking lot for our first ride on the Towpath. Called DRBW based on reviews and talked with Ben at 5:50 (they close at 6). He said no problem to work us in the next day if we could drop the bike for a few hours. We said sure 'cause we hike too, so planned to drop the bike and hike for the day. Was at the shop 10 minutes after they opened, Ben greeted us and looked at the tire (yup, total failure). Showed us several tire options, then said if we could wait a few minutes they'd do it then. About 20 minutes later we were on our way. Can't say enough good about their welcoming nature and outstanding service. Thanks Ben and whoever was in back doing the work!! P.S. The shop cat was friendly too!

Yelp
Just bought a Cannondale gravel bike from them. Great team of guys and excellent service. I brought my bike back because of some issues that arose ( not to their fault, and I shouldn't have so quickly put the blame on them) and they treated me with great respect, patience, and follow thru. Solid mechanics and great explanations. Good guys. Good business all around. I will only go to them from here on out for my bikes.

Yelp
All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They don't try to sell me more than what I need and they are great at listening so they can solve whatever repair issue I need. They're great to work with and I highly recommend them. Sales and repair service are both outstanding.

Yelp
We had a great experience buying a quality bike here the other day. Don't expect to go in and get a "Kmart" bike (to quote the owner) but we got great service, added a couple extras and they installed them with great detail and care. Bikes are their passion and you can tell. If you need bike repairs, they will do a great job! Thanks guys!

Yelp
I am a big believer in finding the positive in every situation and this is a good example! I walked into many bike shops in the Akron area and was dismissed or made to feel "less than" because I am only a casual bike rider and truly don't have much knowledge. When I walked into Dirty River they instantly made me feel at ease. I worked with Chris to try several bikes and take them for a spin. He provided me with all of the information should I choose one of the bikes I tested. I ended up leaving and ultimately, found another bicycle at another business that I ended up purchasing. Even though I didn't purchase here, I made it a point to go back and thank them. I spoke with Tyler this time and let him know how much I appreciated their attitudes. He asked what type of bike I purchased and didn't make me feel guilty for choosing it. I did find an awesome helmet so was happy to give them business and will continue to do so in the future. I might not be able to speak to the nuts & bolts of biking, but for me, I would go back for their knowledge and/or to have my bike serviced here.

Yelp
These guys packed up my bike for a flight very nicely and made sure that I had all of the tools and knowledge to put 'er back together when I made it to LA! They're not only a great bike shop, but an asset to Akron.

Yelp
Excellent service at Dirty River. Since moving to the Akron area, I've been on the hunt for a good bike shop. Coming from s major city, i had pretty high standards. Ryan and the crew exceed expectations every time. I've never been spoken down to, even when i can't remember the name of a part. I'm currently guiding my young child as they rebuild an old Schwinn. Ryan asked me to bring it in so he could eyeball it. He took the time to go over it part by part- an immense help for us because i missed a couple things while making our first list. And he very kindly offered stickers to my shy child making the experience all the more memorable for her. All the items have prices listed so you don't have to feel like they're going to price you based on the shoes you wear. Ryan's time investment on our old, not particularly valuable bike project saved us a trip back for forgotten parts- no doubt about that. Now another of my children is getting excited about their bike and for me, that's exactly what a good bike store should be- a fun place with the parts we need at good prices. Full disclosure- i created this yelp profile specifically so i could post this review. Thanks, Dirty River- you'll be seeing us again!
