We’ve been waiting to come to this renowned restaurant for years. There was a short wait today. The 30 minutes they told us ended up about 10. Everyone was charming, knowledgeable and excellent in every respect. I especially appreciated the allergen menu together with a confirmation from the back of the house that there were no allergen issues with our meal. An exceptional experience all around.

I can tell that this is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been too, food was so delicious, yummy.. what can I say. I will recommend to visit. There was 1 hour wait but I can’t blame them for that, people were waiting in person to have such good food. People must try this whoever is in local.

Google
It's a bit overpriced, but really tasty and worth trying. The staff are extremely polite and friendly. Food quality is top notch and the atmosphere is inviting and homey. The tables are a bit close to each other but it didn't really bother us. We got lucky as we didn't have to wait with no reservation, but it can get really crowded and if you have no reservation, you might have to wait in a queue.

Google
Absolute great dining experience and was worth the wait. Get there either early or late to avoid the long wait line. If you do have to wait in line they are incredibly courteous and offer complimentary tea or juice. Highly recommend the black dal it is a 10/10 and the lamb samosa really simple dishes packed with a ton of flavor! Another cool highlight is for every meal you order they donate a meal for a meal! Super glad we went and great way to end our trip in Edinburgh!

Google
All Dishoom r busy🤣 The Good thing here is we could wait at the bar with drinks before the table was ready. Large portions, you can order less than the staff recommended. Friendly vibes with small and large groups around. No limited time dining, there is room to chit chat with friends after meals if u don’t mind it’s busy around. Three levels in this restaurant with lift and stairs. Toilets r two floors far from dining area.

Google
Super busy but nice staff. You wait at the bar until you get a table. The bar is way too dark and crowded unfortunately. The food was really good though which more than made up for it. Also, the service was really good. Our waiter really explained the menu to us well.

This is a very famous restaurant chain from London. Indian restaurant in the Grand Irani style with marble table top and checkered floors. It oozes charm and elegance from a bygone era. Upon entering the restaurant, the aroma of spices envelops your senses. It’s gentle and inviting. Going upstairs and it opens to the old world charm of a grand Irani cafe with wood paneling and furniture, slow moving fans, glass chandeliers. The dishes are ordered and shared as in any Indian restaurant . The spices and well balanced and the “heat” have been toned down. However the taste has not been affected. Food was super delicious. Reservation is highly recommended as there’s always a long queue outside. I was told that the wait could be one and a half hours without reservations. Highly recommended!

Travelled from England for the Easter holidays and wanted somewhere nice to have dinner on our last night. From the outside, it's unassuming, but once you step through the doors, you're transported into a totally different world. You come in through the kitchen (great strategy, dishoom). The smoke and smells hit you straightaway. We were told to expect a 40 min wait, but we were seated in 20, at a window overlooking St. Andrew square. The staff are quite friendly (shame they don't wear badges), but Elise took good care of us and shared some recommendations which were on point. I've never had chaat before but I like it now. The salli boti was bursting full of flavour and if you have a penchant for something hot and spicy, you can try the mutton fry on a dare. The Ruby chicken is another must try. Smooth, silky, melt in your mouth chicken curry. We are yet to settle the bill as of the time of writing this but it's definitely going to be £££ but not bad for a family of 4. The experience was worth it though. Thank you, dishoom.

Yelp
After a few visits to London locations, I wanted to see if the Edinburgh location of Dishoom kept up with upbeat atmosphere and high food quality of its sister restaurants. While most restaurants can't replicate quality over multiple locations, Dishoom has done a fairly decent job at growing its brand, with only very subtle differences in cooking/preparation from restaurant to restaurant. The location is ideal in St. Andrew's Square, just off George Street and within walking distance of Waverley Station and Edinburgh Castle. The interiors here are tastefully decorated, and a select few tables have window seats overlooking St. Andrew's Square. We started off with their house chai and mango lassi. The mango lassi wasn't my favorite preparation, being very light on yogurt and mango flavor, but a tad bit better than the one I had at their Kensington location. The house chai was great, and this was the only location where both our waitress and the manager proactively offered complimentary refills of the chai (definitely a nice touch). For food, we went with the pau bhaji and ruby chicken, with basmati rice and a naan. Both were delicious preparations, with the pau bhaji having a nice bit of heat to it without being too spicy (would have been nice to have an extra bun or two as there was plenty of bhaji left over once the buns were finished). The ruby chicken gravy was great, but the chicken itself was a tad bit dry compared to their other locations. They were nice enough to provide a complimentary basmati kheer dessert for a birthday we were celebrating, and it was the most unique preparation of the dessert I've had, with a slightly caramelized top to it. Overall, it was a 4.5/5 star meal, and I'm happy to round up due to the super friendly staff that made it a memorable meal. I'm glad Dishoom is raising the bar for atmosphere and food quality, as other Indian restaurants are upping their game and trying out similar concepts, which is great for those who love a good meal out.

Yelp
I've been to the London location and now after trying the Edinburgh, I they are consistent. My short review is Dishoom is good, but not great. We called ahead to get a seat and were able to wait downstairs in the bar until our seat was ready which didn't take too long. For a starter, we had the Chili Chicken. It's just some fried up pieces of chicken that are too over fried and marinated in some sauce that isn't very spicy or flavorful for that matter. For our meal, we had the Masala Prawns, Dishoom Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan. The prawns are quite small, grilled but nothing special about them. The Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan are good, but nothing special. For desert, we shared the Chocolate Pudding, Basmati Kheer and Ice Cream with Mango. Again, these were good but nothing I would come to the place specifically for. This is my sixth time to the UK and I have heard such great things about the Indian food, but I'm just not finding any that's worth raving about. And people have told me what a great restaurant Dishoom is but I would disagree. For atmosphere, this is probably why people come here. It seems to be a very popular place but it would seem more about the atmosphere than the food. It's okay food but I'm sure there are places with better food.

Yelp
Great culinary experience! As soon as we arrived from London via train we were ready for some lunch. Dishoom was only a few minutes away. The place has a very intimate vibe with dark painted walls and golden accent. Our server was fast and courteous. I started off with the rose lassi which was not overly sweet. Perfection! We then shared chaat and it was delicious; sweet, tangy and savory. My husband and I then split a paneer roll which was very flavorful and juicy. We also shared salli botti. The lamb was deliciously flavored and tender. They should really consider branching out to the US. Will definitely reminisce about their food once I go back home.

Yelp
It's almost impossible to get into this restaurant in London, but luckily it's much more doable in Edinburgh. I see why it's so popular though because the food was delicious. The server explained the whole menu to me and recommended items from each section based on what is popular as well as his personal favorites. I ordered the chili chicken starter, chicken ruby curry as my main, and spiced corn as my side. Everything was so flavorful and delicious but still felt like comfort food. After an amazing dinner I also had to try dessert so I ordered the chocolate pudding with chili ice cream and it was 10/10. My experience was so good that I ended up going back just a couple days later! One of the best places I tried in Edinburgh

Yelp
This is the second of the Dishoom restaurants I have had the pleasure of dining in, the other being in London Kensington. Love this place! Food is great and the menu of drinks and food is extensive. Make reservations as this place seems to be busy all day long. Service is great and I love the decor, reminiscent of Old Bombay. I had a cocktail called a Colaba Colada, similar to a pina colada, but with shaved coconut, and some exotic additions which made it magnificent. Food is brought out as it is done and is always piping hot. We feasted on Pau Bhaji, mashed veggies in sauce over butter buns; House Chat sweet potatoes with yogurt, tamarind and other wonderful items; black dal; matter paneer; greens; rice and garlic naan. No meal could be better than this! All dishes are meant to be shared. Come hungry.

Yelp
Dishoom is the real deal -- the most unique flavors I've ever tasted. First, make a reservation. This place is filled all hours of the day. If you are American and used to eating Indian food there you will be blown away at how different the dishes are here. The vegetable samosas are sweet and spicy, I swear they taste like apple pie in a really good way. The Dishoom house chaat is amazing -- sweet, spicy, sour and fresh. The chicken ruby is one of the best things I've ever eaten -- sweet, savory, almost like a tika in the US but the depth of flavor is unmatched. This is a MUST! The black dal was outstanding and the raita was perfect to even out the heat of the other dishes. If you are anywhere near a Dishoom restaurant it is an absolute must eat!! I can not wait to come back to the UK for more.

Yelp
1. The decor was amazing! Beautiful attention to detail. 2. Service was impeccable! The staff was friendly and kind, always! 3. Food was amazing! Our favorites were the Ruby chicken, fried okra, broccoli salad, tikka masala, papadums and the chai tea! The chai tea is refillable and refill we did! I was sad they were out of the samosas. 4. The chutneys were all incredibly delicious. The broccoli salad was my personal favorite and I have been making it since I returned home. Buy the cookbook.

Yelp
This place was INCREDIBLE! Definitely my favorite spot that we ate at in Edinburgh. I love Indian food but this place is about so much more than the food. It's the entire experience, service and ambience that makes it so special. We ordered so many delicious things but the black daal was definitely my favorite. They also had the best vegetable samosa that I've ever had in my entire life. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. We ordered more than we could actually eat just to try as much as possible.

Yelp
Do it. Book a reservation, you won't be disappointed if you enjoy this cuisine. It was possibly the best Indian food I've ever had. The Ruby chicken was our favorite (like tikka masala). We also enjoyed the chili chicken as an appetizer (we are not big on spice and this was about my limit but nonetheless amazing. The type of spice you just want more and more). Additionally, the black daal, garlic naan, and basmati rice. The mango lassi drink really was great, helped neutralize the spice. The 2 of us shared one app, the naan and rice, and 2 main dishes. This was perfect for us. Our server and everyone we encountered were lovely. Fun to talk to, ask questions about the city (we literally landed and came right here after dropping our bags off), and just chat in general. The inside was super cute and I felt at home. I wish I had one by my house. I'd be a regular for sure. 10/10.

Yelp
Automatic 12.5% gratuity service charge. Ambiance: hipster with the feel of old English saloon. Very cute decor. Service: came on a Wednesday night but the place was packed. Waited 45 minutes for a a table for 2 (we didn't make a reservation). Servers were attentive and didn't not lack in any areas. Food: Naan made in tandoori oven was nice touch but it was too firm for my liking. I prefer it a bit softer. Brocoli stems and snow peas was nicely done and flavor was superb. Greens were perfectly cooked with a nice bite still left and the Salty lime flavor really brought the flavors together well. Okra fries were a bit burnt. Crispy, but burnt. Okra cut too thinly. Adding on the chutney helped mute the burnt flavors. Chicken murgh malai (under "grilled meats") was tender and flavorful, however, it had no sauce. The no sauce lacked the moisture mouth feel so we had to order.. Mattar Paneer: Slightly spicy with a good amount if paneer and sauce, however, the sauce was extremely sweet - a lot sweeter than I expected. However, I'm not familiar with mumbai's cuisine so this could be how this dish is supposed to be made.

Yelp
Highly recommend! This place has great tasting food. The service was great and the ambiance was beautiful. We loved the daal and lamb specials

Yelp
I've had Indian food in India, this was better!! Chicken Ruby for the win!! Staff were amazingly friendly, the wait at the permit room was a delight too

Yelp
I visited the London branch of Dishoom, and loved it so much I knew I had to go to the Edinburgh one. This one was also pretty busy, but I had no issues getting a table for one during lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive and the food came out relatively quickly. I ordered a half plate of the salli boti. Pictures do not do this dish justice. The salli crisp chips and tender lamb make for a nice variety of textures, with such a complex and flavorful sauce/curry. I just wish they had a Dishoom here in the US!

Yelp
This place was unbelievable. With only a couple days in Edinburgh, this was a spot we kept hearing about. I was traveling with a big group of friends, so we made decision to make a reso a day in advance. This place was poppin' at all times of the day with a line out the door and down the sidewalk. When we got there, our group was lead upstairs to the dining area, not before walking past the amazing open kitchen on the main floor. Interior design was such a vibe. Lots of dark wood, low lighting, wicker, organic materials, and tropical greenery. Bombay was definitely present. Because there were so many of us, we decided to order family style and it ended being a GREAT choice. We got to try so many dishes and literally none of them disappointed. I'm serious, none of them. Some standouts for me were the House Chaat; Chilli Chicken; Sali Boti; and Mattar Paneer. Also had to get a Mango Lassi - fruity and refreshing! TIP: definitely make a reservation in advance!! Wait times were up to 40-50 minutes for walk ins.

Yelp
Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. And they don't take reservations. (For dinner, that is.) There is a multi-step process to visiting Dishoom. First, you'll wait in a queue outside where they will offer you tea. Then, you'll be invited to their basement bar - The Permit Room ("a space dedicated to the most delicious and sincere tipples, great music, and good cheer") - for cocktails. Finally, you'll be escorted to your table many flights back up into the building. Sometimes this process takes fifteen minutes; sometimes this process can take an hour or more. Whatever your wait... it's worth it. The service here is always impeccable and tremendously friendly too. It feels like visiting a friend's (or a friend of a friend's) house; I feel welcome, comfortable, and ready to indulge without judgment. Drinks: There are many non-alcoholic options, wines, ciders, lassis, and cocktails. The Colaba Colada (pineapple and coconut with coriander, chai syrup, lime juice, and rum) is tropical perfection! Food: So. Many. Vegan. Options. Try and order one of everything if you can. I certainly have. Currently, I recommend: the chilli broccoli (it's a refreshing salad like dish and full of both luscious textures and flavors), the gunpowder potatoes (smokey and so aromatic), the okra fries (I never liked okra until I tried these), the chole chawal (spiced chickpeas, basmati rice, some kind of squash, and a pickled veg; it makes for exceptional cold, late night leftovers), and the basmati kheer (caramelized basmati rice pudding with vanilla-infused coconut milk, cardamon, and cashews topped with blueberry compote; this is one of the best desserts I have ever eaten anywhere and I regret that I had to share it with someone who liked it as much as i did!). Also: For every meal you eat here, Dishoom donates a meal to a child (so: a meal for a meal). They work with two charities - Magic Breakfast in the UK and The Akshaya Patra Foundation in India - and have so far donated over fifteen MILLION meals. Learn more at dishoom.com/charity.

Yelp
If Mary Poppins and a Mumbai street vendor had a love child, it'd be called Dishoom. The Kerjiwal eggs are so good they could negotiate peace treaties. The Bun Maska and unlimited chai? An iconic duo like Batman and Robin, but for your taste buds. The place is so well-located it feels like a reward for some good deed I don't even remember doing. It's right on St. Andrew's Square, yet somehow not swarmed with tourists snapping photos every two seconds. This spot is the epitome of well-placed serendipity. The service? More attentive than a cat spotting a laser pointer. The decor? A nostalgic nod to a time when mustaches were unironic and everyone smelled faintly of sandalwood. And the noise level? Lower than my chances of quitting this place cold turkey.

Yelp
Having been to Dishoom in London, I had to make one stop during my trip. Very glad I did. Everything was very, very good. I think sometimes Dishoom doesn't get as much respect as it's a big, popular chain--but it's excellent. The place was mobbed on a Monday. We waited 50 minutes for our table at 9PM. There's quite the system here, and they'll set you up downstairs in the bar area so there's no idle spending time. Highlights included the chef special Salli Boti and Chicken Ruby. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Olivia K.

Yelp
My friend recommended it, Yelp recommended it. So, you know I had pretty high expectations coming into this restaurant... SERVICE 1) While you wait on the line outside, you can tell they really care for their customers. You are given a choice of a complimentary cup of warm hot chai or mint tea. Also if it's raining outside, they allow you to borrow an umbrella to stand under. 2) While you wait inside, you are lead to the downstairs bar area where you either wait a short time or a bit longer depending on the circumstance. You are seated at a table with water service and a menu for alcoholic/non alcoholic refreshments to order in the process. If you don't get it at the bar, they bring it to the dining table that awaits you. In the meantime, you are giving a remote that will buzz when your table is ready. 3) When you head into the elevator, you are escorted to your table upon exiting. At the table, the server takes your order. Service was very prompt and they are very attentive at every stage of the process. Everything was very organized and had a system in place for it, which was great. FOOD My friends and I tried a various selection of appetizers including okra fries, prawn koliwada, khichia & chundo. The portions are not very big, but also not very small. A small tease before your main meal. They were all warm & delicious. For my main, I got to try the Chicken Ruby. Unfortunately the Chicken Ruby doesn't come with anything else, so I had to order a Basmati Rice separately. The rice bowl was a good portion. The Chicken Ruby was excellent. As a fan of tomatoes/pasta sauce which is what I thought it tasted most similarly to, I really enjoyed it. The chicken pieces were also very soft and easy to bite into. Overall based on my first visit, I am very impressed. When it comes to the service & food, I'm giving them a very high rating among hundreds of other reviews.

Yelp
This place was so delicious! It is honestly the best restaurant we went to in the city. The food is served like little plates but don't let that fool you! Order little by little. The drinks were great and we only waited 20 min out of the projected 45. It does get busy here so just be prepared for that. The service was impeccable and the ambiance is very nice! Hustle and bustle everywhere.

Yelp
The hype is real. I've only had Indian food one other time and wasn't a fan. This time, I was excited to try somewhere I've already heard from many others that it's really good!! The server was super helpful talking us through the menu, balancing out the meal, and suggesting items. The spices are delicious. The food is cooked well. I can't wait to be back in the UK to come again!

Yelp
An absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish! My husband and I recently visited Edinburgh and I read that a visit to Dishoom was a must. We saw that there are no dinner reservations, and I immediately registered this as a "get in line" type of set-up. I was correct - we arrived at the restaurant around 5:45 pm and there was already a line and about a 45 minute wait. But, we were determined and committed to the wait! During our brief outdoor wait, we were served a small glass of sparkling lemonade, which was lovely. The majority of our waiting time was spent in the bar, which is in the sublevel of the restaurant. We were able to order cocktails and enjoy the chic ambiance and music for a while before being buzzed for our table. I tried the Padmini Negroni, it was so unique and cocoa-forward, and I loved the chocolate garnish! Our dinner table was upstairs on the top floor (the main entrance floor being mainly kitchen space), we were able to use an elevator rather than climb multiple floors - I love to see restaurants with accessibility considerations! Our server, Mat, was AWESOME - he was kind and cheery and very helpful in directing us in how much food we should approximate for our meal. We took his recommendations and he was spot-on, especially with the appetizer, the house chaat. It was fantastic, we were ready to lick the bowl clean. We then ordered garlic naan, Keema Pau (lamb and peas with fluffy rolls), chicken biryani, mutton pepper fry (tender and spicy lamb stew), and the broccoli chili salad. All were SO delicious and flavorful, and each dish complimented one another perfectly. We were lured into ordering some sweets post-dinner, and to our surprise we were treated to complimentary dessert thanks to our server gathering that we were celebrating our first year of marriage. We tried the alphonso mango and ice cream seasonal bowl, as well as the chocolate pudding with chili ice cream - both amazing! We left with happy tummies and astonishment at the level of detail and care put into the Dishoom experience. If we ever are lucky enough to visit Edinburgh or the UK again, we will make a point to visit and enjoy the amazing food once more. Thank you to the Dishoom team for such a great night!

Yelp
It doesn't get much better than Dishoom! I've been to a couple in London so had to make a reservation to try this one. Menu is so good we over ordered but loved every bite. Incredible service by the staff. We had a window seat upstairs and it was the perfect treat for my parents. Cocktails were perfectly balanced and delightful. Can't wait to get back to the UK to visit again!!

Yelp
I've been to one of the Dishoom London locations and was really excited to learn that there was a location in Edinburgh and that breakfast was served. At the recommendation of other Yelpers, I got a bacon egg naan roll and thought it was tasty and it was filling. The prices here are a bit high for what you get, in my opinion.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
Do not miss this place! Fantastic food served by competent and friendly wait staff. We missed our chance in London but thankfully were able to get a spot while in Edinburgh. Everything we had was tasty but don't miss the house chaat. It's a perfect way to start and helps to cool your palate from the spicier foods.
google avatar

Dee D.

Yelp
The food was delicious and there are a variety of choices. We enjoyed the samosas but wished we ordered the chatt. We enjoyed the chai, but it was a small glass. We also had mango lassi - just okay. We had the garlic naan, basmati rice, and the potato . All were winners. The chicken tikka was tasty and filling. The bowl of greens is composed of broccolini and snow peas which was also delicious. The food was good and the server was okay. They added a 12.50% optional service charge to the bill and didn't explain it-- sort of presumptuous. We had lots of leftovers too.

Yelp
Been on my foodie bucket for...10 years..?? I've had the London location on my list for so many years but hearing they have one in Edinburgh was great news. We walked down there on a Wednesday or Thursday and the place had a line to get in. We were kind of worried but it didn't last long. First wait in line and get your name added to the queue. Then they'll let you in downstairs to The Permit Room where you have a drink or two while you wait for your table. Buzzer buzzes you when your tables ready. The food is great. So many options and tons of vegan and vegetarian options too. The only downside is that their curries don't come with rice unless you ask for it. Other than that, we celebrated our bo theater and the space - though crowded - was welcoming and beautifully decorated. Can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
This food is worth the wait! We were told there was around a 45 minute wait for two people and decided to stick it out. We waited about 10 minutes in line with a cup of complementary chai and around 25 minutes at the bar before our table was ready. Our server was very helpful and the food was incredibly delicious. The chili chicken was flavorful and spicy. The chicken ruby was creamy, and the chicken tandoori was warm and tender. If I ever come back to Edinburgh, I'd wait in line again!!!
google avatar

Toni A.

Yelp
What an amazing experience from start to finish. We were greeting outside with lovely chai tea during a wee rainstorm. Then had some of the best old fashioneds I've EVER had. Then we were taken to our table where we had the best waiter! He suggested the perfect dishes for us and we did not leave one scrap of food left. Such a fun and warm atmosphere! Will definitely be back the next time I visit Edinburgh!

Yelp
Dishoom is as close to a perfect restaurant as you can get. Amazing food, creative theming and environment and great service. Go with an open mind, try a bunch of things on the menu (everything is great!) and enjoy yourself. Be prepared for a long wait (no reservations) but grab some tea outside if they are offering it and peruse the menu. It's a bit loud and crowded inside but you are here to eat, not to read a book! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Second time at Dishoom. First was in Covent Garden. Always excellent. Always busy. Always worth it. Fantastic variety of flavorful dishes. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious!

Yelp
So good!! Great unique breakfast. The chai was really delicious too. Fun ambiance and good service. They were accommodating to our party as well. Have been to a location in London and both are great.

Yelp
WOW! We visited this place on recommendation from our barista in the afternoon. He was so spot on! This place doesn't accept reservations, so we showed up early. We still had to wait about 20-30 mins, but we were able to sit downstairs by the bar and get some drinks. Our waiter explained the menu to us when we were finally seated and even had a few recommendations. We had the veggie samosas, lamb curry, and the basmati rice pudding for dessert. Everything was AMAZING! My husband had never had a lot of Indian food and he was raving at the end of dinner about all the flavors. This place is definitely a must visit!

Yelp
I'm not sure if places like Dishoom exist to serve Yelp or if Yelp exists to serve places like Dishoom. Never the less, the Yelp community totally nailed it. Visiting Edinburgh for the first time. My wife and I wanted a nice local place for dinner. I couldn't believe there was a 5 star rated restaurant with over 200 reviews. Dishoom was that place and each and every reviewer got it right! So, let me bore you by repeating what everyone has already written, Dishoom is awesome! First, I have to give them support for the extensive menu of non alcoholic drinks. They have a very nice selections of specialty drinks with no Alcohol. Now, they also have a nice cocktail menu, but I really appreciate establishments that think about all their customers. I found all the employees to be very friendly, helpful and good at what they do. From the people manging the cue, to the bar staff to the restaurant staff, they were all right on point. The food was marvelous. We started with the veggie samosas and then moved on to the spicy lamb chops and chef's special with a nice bowl of rice. The flavors were amazing. We finished with the chocolate pudding and the rice pudding. My wife is very picky about rice pudding and said it was the best she has ever had. Not sure when I may be back to Edinburgh, but my wife and I will always remember the experience we had at Dishoom. It is worthy of 5 stars for sure.

Yelp
On our last night here we tried Dishoom, and it was wonderful! From the decor, to the service, to the food all were top notch. We had the Chefs Special, Salli Boti, which was the most tender lamb in a gravy, very good. We also ordered the Chicken Tikka, and the Chicken Berry Britannia Biriyani rice, both of which was as good. Our serve Babi, was so professional and friendly. If you find yourself in Edinburgh you must make time to have a meal here.

Yelp
If you're looking at this Yelp page chances are you've heard of dishoom because it's been recommended as a top restaurant in edinburgh or london. The rumors are true. We had received multiple recommendations to come here and honestly waited just because we hadn't ever gone out to eat for Indian food before. Dishoom was unanimously the favorite meal of our two week trip in the UK. I wish we would have come here more than once but we wanted to give other restaurants a fair shake also. Not knowing what to order, our server recommended the Ruby chicken and it was amazing and a perfect recommendation. The chicken as so tender it would cut with the fork, and the spice level was very flavor forward without being too spicy. I had a chai and it was delicious. Would recommend 10/10.

Yelp
Dishoom in Edinburgh is one of the most highly reviewed restaurants on Yelp in the city, as of March 2023, they have a 5-star average rating from 182 reviews, and based on my experience here, it's easy to tell why. The quality of food and service is exceptional. It was so good I had to make sure to visit multiple times during my short trip to Edinburgh! Dishoom is a small Bombay/Mumbai-inspired chain of restaurants with many restaurants in London and a few others dotted around the UK, including locations in Birmingham, Manchester and of course this one here in Edinburgh. The restaurant is very large and is over three floors, with the kitchen on the ground level, the main restaurant area on the upper level, and the bar area on the lower floor. They do not accept reservations after 17:45 unless you are a party of six or greater, but the wait for a table generally doesn't tend to be too bad, you will be given a pager, to come back when a table is ready. I do find the fact they turn their phone lines off at this time, to be a little frustrating, as it means you're unable to call ahead and get a rough idea of the wait time. The menu and concept are pretty much the same as any Dishoom, on both occasions, I opted for my regular order. Chicken Ruby with Gunpowder Potatoes and Basmati Rice, the food is of course a little pricey but considering the quality of both the food and the service, it is something worth splurging on as a treat or special occasion. The potatoes had a slight kick and were cooked well, and the chicken ruby was spiced well and had large and generous chunks of chicken with spices, while the rice had a perfect consistency and fluffiness and was excellent when soaking up the sauce of my chicken ruby. PRO TIP: The chai is refillable until the evening, and it's always hot the combination of spices makes it great to have a couple of glasses before and after your meal, combine it with some tap water, and you'll never be thirsty. The allergen knowledge from the staff is very impressive, they have a gluten-free menu as well as an allergen folder to advise of any dishes that may be listed as a may contain. Every single staff member here works really hard and is super friendly, on my first night here, I had a wonderful lady called Gabby, we ended up chatting about my local Dishoom in Manchester, and she told me my regular server back home actually used to work in Edinburgh and they were friends - small world! On my second night, I had a male server who was also super friendly. On both occasions, nothing was too much trouble for the servers, and my water and chai were never empty. The fact they're open until 11 pm, which is later than other restaurants nearby which close between 9 pm and 10 pm is also useful for night owls like myself, my server told me they have last orders around 15-20 minutes before they close, and the staff leave when the last customers leave. There is an optional service charge, which I normally disagree with, but the service is so good here, I just couldn't take it off as they work their socks off and deserve every penny of it. It's hard to fault this place, with excellent food and excellent service, as well as a comfortable and unique interior, it is one of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh, and this place would be first on my list when returning to Scotland and that's a five out of five in my book.

Yelp
Mindblown. The 5 star ratings are no joke. We loved everything about this place. The food, ambiance and service were top notch. So good we had to go back twice during our trip! Loved the Broccoli chili salad, ruby chicken, paneer and garlic naan.

Yelp
An authentic Indian restaurant serving Bombay cuisine. The entrance opens to the ground floor where you check in with the host and can watch the chefs cook in the open kitchen. The restaurant was surprisingly large spanning across two additional floors, and was busy when we came for our 12:30 PM Tuesday reservation. Steamed Basmati Rice or Garlic Naan can be added for an additional £3.90 to accompany the entrées. Both of these sides were fresh, with my preference leaning towards the naan. ----- Pau Bhaji: a bowl of mashed vegetables with hot, buttered, home-made buns, Chowpatty style (£6.10). The pav phaji had decent flavor from the vegetable mixture and mild in heat. The portion of curry was sufficient to accompany with the soft dinner rolls. ----- Chicken Ruby: chicken in a rich, silky makhani sauce (£13.70). The curry was rich and light in spiciness. Chicken was tender but not juicy. Note the spices are still in the curry before you accidentally bite into them. ----- House Black Daal: cooked over 24 hours for extra harmony (£7.90). Legumes had a soft consistency, good to pair with naan or rice. ----- A 12.5% service charge is added onto the bill. I was not that fond of the smell of incense, but the sticks are mostly burned by the entrances and hallways, so does not waft much to the dining area.

Yelp
Fantastic setting and ambiance, wonderful food, and impeccable service. Went here for my birthday and our server made sure it was a great experience. Mentioned my preference for all things spicy and was treated to a chili pepper ice cream for dessert.

Yelp
Okay so my husband and I just returned from a 10 day trip to the UK. And we both agree that we had our best meal here!!! We enjoyed our dinner so much we had to go back the next morning for a quick breakfast before a tour. Let's get back to dinner. We had such a hard time deciding what to order because it all looked so good. Since we didn't make a reservation we had to wait a bit and was pleasantly surprised when they took us to the bar area. As a teetotaler, I was happy to see they had a special menu for me and I couldn't resist trying their jazzed up version of pina colada - hands down it is the best I've ever had. We tried to ask them how to make it but it's pretty complicated but I'm just glad I got to have it. Now on to the food, every dish was packed with flavor. I grew up in Malaysia and we have good Indian food, though mostly Southern Indian. And this is up there for me in terms of quality and flavor. Even though all the food we got was great, the one that stands out to me is the Salli Boti - braised tender lamb. Oh my gosh it was fall apart in your mouth tender. And the flavors were soooo good. The chicken ruby was described similar to butter chicken and it was nice though it was a little bit sweeter than expected - still very good though. Even something as simple as vegetables was done well. Anyway we went back the next morning to try their breakfast and I loved the bacon and egg naan roll I got. I was expecting plain ol' bacon and egg but the chutney inside added much depth of flavor. Finally, we have to mention the chai. I have had chai and this is up there for me as well. We loved it so much we bought it back so we can try and replicate it. Although I have a feeling it won't quite be the same. If we're ever back in Edinburgh, we will be going back!!

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast here with wonderful attentive service and exotic fulfilling breakfast staples. Bottomless chai/espresso drink the bomb. Got "the wrestler" and wasn't hungry again until dinner. They took great care of my entire family including young children and made us feel very welcome!

Yelp
Service was great... choice of entrees and small bites were all enticing. The chili broccoli salad was AMAZING! The old fashion made with a bay leaf and tea was so flavorful, and unlike any old fashioned we would have in the U. S. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
We tried the local dishoom. In the pst we have also visited the London branch. Chicken ruby, grilled kebab and lamp are great . Steamed rise and drink prices also a bit over the top. All in all a pleasant experience.

Yelp
Lovely breakfast at Dishoom on Mother's Day. Service was quick, food very well cooked and good service. We were seated downstairs in the basement area as it was busy and I do prefer to be on the upper level during the day as it's brighter with the large windows but that's a personal preference.

Yelp
Unbelievable. Came with my Indian friend and allowed him to order for us. Both loved it. Great service and great and fast food. May have to wait but that should tell you something. Great atmosphere as well.

Yelp
We've been to two Dishoom locations, one in London and one in Edinburgh. Both are incredibly good--food, service, drinks, and atmosphere. I wish they opened a location in the States.

Yelp
Dishoom provided the best breakfast in London during our stay. The full English was excellent, and the Chai - O.M.G. I've never had chai like this, but I would return just for this alone. The service was outstanding and worth the price 10x over. Highly recommend!
