The Baseline: For a theme park attraction, a quality experiences must be provided, the attraction must be fun and engaging, an immersive environment must be established, the queue line must be themed, and safety must be a top priority. Attraction: This is the classic ride that also will get you around the park. Top-notch for nostalgia alone. The railroad will take you in a circle around Disneyland with 4 stops (Main Street to New Orleans Square to Mickey’s Toontown to Tomorrowland and back to Main Street). While you ride the narration will point out other attractions around the park with a final Grand Canyon/time travel experience at the end). It is a classic Disney experience. Queue: It is practically a walk on unless the train from the previous station is really full. Main Street Station is almost the guaranteed point of entry.

10 star 🌟🤩🤩 for sure. So this time we visit with my son first time experience and he had a blast 💥 day with lots of amazing crazy ride but but one disappointment there wasn’t parade becoz of some reason um 😐🥹🧐 !! Note 📝 please the best way to get here. Catch the bus from 20 toy park & ride station 🚉 if you live near by Disneyland Resort and second thing when you buy lighting passs is so so becoz once you use it. again you have to wait 2 hours more 😜🤪😜😜

Graham Tranter

Google
The entrance to Disneyland and the first place you pass on your way to main street where the parades happen and the shopping potential is at its best. I like main street. ALthough most visitors hurry by for the rides attractions, there is a lot to see in this first area.

Cool train station. Great place to watch fireworks. See classic style train station

No visit to Disneyland would be complete without taking a ride on the train. Walt Disney was a great lover of trains and they have a train car replicated in honor of his wife Lillian called the Lilly Belle. Be sure to ask if it is running during your visit. I understand it is a great experience. Unfortunately during my visit that car was not running. Do however, check out the replica model of it at the Main St station. The original is in the Disney family museum. You go on a grand circle tour of Disneyland with stops in New Orleans Square, Mickey's toontown fair, and Tomorrowland. All along the way you hear narration and get a glimpse of some of the behind the scene experiences with that part of the park you are going though. Much of the view is hidden by bushes-this is the "backstage area" where cast members work that you are not permitted to see. As you take your journey listen to the sounds of the Jungle Cruise, see the rivers of America with an original Mike Fink keelboat and some Native Americans on the other side. As you head towards Tomorrowland you get a glimpse of the topiaries of Small World and see some of the cars of autotopia-a Disneyland original ride. Heading from Tomorrowland you enter a long tunnel showing the great southwest and the famous dinosaurs that were popular from the Magic Skyway attraction in the Ford wonder rotunda at the New York World's fair. My favorite was always the confrontation between the T-rex and the stegosaurus. You are free to disembark at any of the stations of take the whole grand circle tour as my husband and I did. It was a world of enjoyment. All in all it is one of the fastest ways to get from one side of the park to another and sit back and relax and enjoy a nostalgic ride on a piece of history. Located on top of the entry gate at Main St USA in Disneyland.

Google
Happiest place on earth. I haven't been to Disneyland since 2017 and it changed a lot ! The lines move much faster. The parks don't seem overcrowded and there's lots of disneyland staff around to help guide you through the park. All of the restrooms were clean and I don't remember waiting for a stall throughout my stay. The star wars section is just mind blowing. I am happy that Disney did a great job adding this attraction. You feel as if you're inside the mandolorian series. There's a cantina that serves great drinks. I got a Coruscent Cooler which had tequila and a blend of fruits. 2 drinks was the limit and that's all you need to recharge your batteries.

Love it, super relaxing. And you have the view to amazing sites that you can only enjoy when riding. This ride is a must everytime you go to Disney

It was great to watch the parade here on dusk and there were many photo opportunities, including the professional photographers.

Yelp
Got on at New Orleans Square headed to Main Street. 2:10 pm best way to get transported as the heat is high yet the train is not jam packed.

Yelp
Another first time rider experience maybe I did it when I was little. I just don't remember. My absolute favorite part about this ride was the scale at the train station. Disneyland truly is a magical place especially if you can step on a scale and it take off a good 75 pounds off your weight. I guess this is a place where dreams come true. I know it's wrong, but I'll take it anyways.

Yelp
Choo choo! A great way to hop around the park and preview which areas are just too crowded. Also, a great way to get a seat and relax. Sometimes we do a lap or a lap and a half to rest up for the next leg of the day. Lines are never very long. A cool ride in and of itself.

Yelp
Beautiful sights...we went through a prehistoric tunnel with dinosaurs and also a view of the Grand Canyon. We circled the Christmas festivities and all the beautiful decorations..It was picturesque

Yelp
This is one of Disneyland's original rides from 1955. It was conceived by Walt Disney himself. I like riding the train when my feet start to hurt and I just want to sit for a bit. Plus it is a faster way to get from one side of the park to the other. The Disneyland Railroad usually arrives every 5 to 10 minutes and picks up at four different stations - New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A. You can hop on and off at any of the stations or just stay on board. It takes around 20 minutes to go around the whole park. Anywhere from two to four trains can be in operation at any time. There is a narrator on the overhead speakers that narrates your journey through the various Disney "themed lands". I like part where you see the Audio-Animatronics dinosaurs. There are five steam locomotives. Four of the locomotives are named after former AT&SF Railway presidents. The fifth is named after a former Disney animator.

Yelp
What better way to see the park than a gentle railroad ride. A staple at any park, but Disney did this best, in my opinion. It is kind of the first thing you see when you enter this part of the park, and it can be a great asset to traverse the park and save you time and your feet some pain. We boarded this to mostly get off our feet, and we were here. We waiting for a few minutes and the train arrived. We boarded quickly and were on our gentle ride to our destination. We passed by notable attractions, some in the midst of transformation. Man, I wish that Splash Mountain had been transformed already, but alas. We rode all the way to ToonTown or whatever the name of the stop was and got off there. This definitely saved us some time and we were ready to start walking again. I really liked the cast members on this. They really interacted with the guests and made everyone feel welcomed. They even sang happy birthday to a guest, really cool to see.

Yelp
All aboard!! The Disneyland railroad attraction is one of the first rides that you see when you enter the park. In fact, you can see the train from the entrance of the park. There's a loading and drop off area at Main Street USA station, that's in the front of the park. I like this attraction because it's a nice, relaxing way to get from one part of the park to another part of the park. If your feet hurt and you need a break from walking, this is a great alternative to walking. It's also a nice way to just go all the way around Disneyland.

Yelp
Great time at Disneyland! Very convenient parking. The tram into the park is constantly running so don't have a long wait to get into the park. Great rides and food!

Yelp
This one is a tough one. On the one hand this train has some of the best views of Disneyland! It's a nice, leisurely trip around the park and a cool way to take a break if you don't feel like walking around. On the other hand, the in ride attractions like the dinosaurs and the land that time forgot desperately need updating! I love nostalgia, I do! I think the past should be remembered, even celebrated, but this feels so ANTIQUATED. I'm sure this is one of the oldest rides in the park but the grand canyon/journey through time portion gets old fast! I hope they work on it soon! Other than that it's four stars!

The train was closed during my last visit as they were building Tron in Tomorrowland. I am planning another trip to WDW soon and I'll be sure to check it out if there have been any updates to it. Yelp
We took our kid to Disneyland for the first time a few weeks before his third birthday. He got in free, but me and my husband, brother, and sister-in-law all paid for park hopper tickets. Good job, Disney, you money-making machine. Our son Leo B. loves trains, so we figured we'd start our visit with a ride on the Disneyland Railroad. It's an 18-minute loop around the park with a few stops and a couple of tunnels with things to see while you trundle through. There was a short wait, but it wasn't bad. We were able to board the second train that came to the Main Street Station. The train ride was very slow and boring--we really felt every one of those 18 minutes. It was also less interesting for our kid than we thought it might be. He was low key terrified of the tunnels, one of which offered a loud, chaotic scene with a lot of dinosaurs. He literally covered his eyes for that one, and we were all like, this is for your benefit, little man. That said, if you ask him now, he'll tell you he loved the Disneyland train. He still talks about going through those tunnels over a month later. Next time, though, we'll skip the train and go straight to the other attractions.

Yelp
I actually really enjoy this ride! A nice way to sit down after a long walking. Near 360 views of the Park. And a convenient way to get from one land to another!

Yelp
Hubby and my future Mother-in-Law recently took me on the Disneyland Railroad for my first time. I absolutely love this ride. It's very kid-friendly and lets you see the entire park without hurting your legs. I've never ridden on the railroad before since I've always preferred to walk everywhere but the railroad was a really nice change of pace. I love seeing the park at a different angle and love waving at the parkgoers below the railroad tracks. My personal favorite part is going from the Tomorrowland Station to Main Street. There's a segment with the Grand Canyon and dinosaurs. It was really fun seeing those animatronics. We definitely recommend the railroad. It's the best way to see the whole park in 20 minutes while resting your feet. Best part is, you can get off whenever you feel like it or just keep riding the railroad for several rounds!

Yelp
One time my family waited for me to get off work (back when I worked at Disneyland) and it was around the time the sun was going down and they rode the train, around the park, 14 times. They took the best nap ever and when they woke up they felt refreshed and rejuvenated. That is the beauty of the steam trains, you're not forced to exit and you can just relax and go around the entire park as many times as you like. Another time, a guy asked my coworker how to get to Tomorrowland (he was standing in it). She told him to take the train by Autopia and get of at the 6th stop. He was not amused, but his wife thought it was the funniest thing ever. If you need a break from walking and just want to relax, catch the steam train at Main Street, New Orleans square, Toon Town or Tomorrowland.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a nice little train ride if you want to get off your feet and sit down to rest. My wife wanted to get on the railroad train so rest so we sat in it. The wait for the railroad was only like 5 minutes and it takes you around the park. There 4 stop so you can get off at any of those spots if you don't want to walk as much. There also some attractions you can see throughout the ride like the grand canyon, dinosaur and etc.
google avatar

Yelp
Disneyland Railroad is a ride that travels around the Disneyland theme park. It's a 18-minute scenic journey aboard an authentic steam-powered train. This ride is available for all ages and heights. It can be loud and dark at certain times. The Disneyland Railroad ride will take you through a variety of areas of the theme park from New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, Tomorrowland and Main Street USA. Our favorite part about this ride is the the part between Tomorrowland and Main Street USA. There is a dark tunnel you'll go through and see a section with dinosaurs! My daughter loves this part! I finally had a chance to do the entire ride during my family's last visit at Disneyland. We were able to get seats at Disney's Tomorrowland entrance to the Disney Railroad. We only had to wait 15 minutes for the train to arrive at the station.

Yelp
Last ride of the night before retiring to my hotel (or so, I thought).... Located in Main Street, U.S.A., at the very front upon entering Disneyland. Disneyland Railroad is a free and gentle ride around Disneyland, making four stops at: 1). Main Street, U.S.A., 2). New Orleans Square, 3). Mickey's Toontown, and 4). Tomorrowland. However, I only made it to 2). New Orleans Square because the train broke down (assuming it literally "ran out of steam") and had to reverse back to New Orleans Square when we got stuck inside the Matterhorn, lol! The staffers gave us patrons a choice of either waiting or getting out (majority of us decided to do the latter. I personally didn't want to risk breaking down somewhere farther and having a longer walk back to my hotel). For now, this attraction will get three stars because I was able to enjoy the train ride a little bit. Also, I happened to be going through Adventureland and was able to hit up the 9:45pm Walt's Enchanted Tiki Room show and ride the Indiana Jones Adventure when it finally opened up (wasn't operating during the daytime). Hopefully, I can update my review the next time for this one.

Yelp
By far the most underrated ride at Disneyland. This ride is nice, especially if your looking to give your feet a break and just sit back and still get the feel of the park. We used this is or way or transportation around the park to different lands. Gave us a break in between and also had it's all informational displays. They have 4 stops in total : Main St, Tomorrowland, New Orleans and Toontown
google avatar

Benny H.

Yelp
The train that takes around Disney! We had to wait awhile for our train, but it's worth it. Sit back and enjoy Disney!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
This is one of the most relaxing things to do at Disneyland...the train. I like how the station feels so authentic. Walt loved trains. I wish we could ride the lily bell one day.
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
This is a classic ride around the park that never gets old. It is a real locomotive that runs on steam. They will often explain that to you when you are 'refueling'. It takes a couple of minutes. It's nice because if you are a little tired you can sit and ride around the park and access where you want to go next. You can also be entertained by the info and visuals in the tunnels. Right now it gets a little jammed up near New Orleans square as that is the closest place to the Star Wars area and with all the newness it is quite busy but definitely check it out its worth one trip around to view the entirety of the park. I'll definitely ride the railroad again.
google avatar

Marie-Angeline F.

Yelp
It's like a blast from the past to enjoy a steam locomotive train/tour ride. Everytime we go; the Main Street Train Station is the first stop. The next stop is; New Orleans Square. And, between Main Street USA and Tomorrowland you'll go back in time through a dark tunnel and see some dinosaurs! If it's your birthday make sure you let the Conductor know; sometimes it's a nice surprise! The Disney employees really make your visit special! Let them know they're appreciated. #disneyemployeesareawesome

Yelp
I absolutely love the Disneyland Railroad. It's a nice introduction to the land of Disney, a fun ride in itself when it goes through the land of dinosaurs, and a lifesaver when you are absolutely exhausted and in Toontown. I usually try to ride the Railroad at least once a trip, especially if I'm there for more than a day and most especially on busy and crowded days - it's one of the easiest ways to get to Tomorrowland from elsewhere in the park I was sad to hear it would only be running until 1pm after the COVID reopening, so we didn't take a ride this year. But the dinosaurs are one of the things I most look forward to when I visit so definitely next time we'll be jumping aboard!
google avatar

Marcus F.

Yelp
Twenty minutes of free butt sitting at Disneyland is soooooo worth it... This train ride is sometimes forgotten because of the relentless scramble of trekking from one ride to another. It's not to be missed however because it does saves time, and your feet, when traveling from one land to the other. The ride itself is fun of course, especially going through the dark rooms like the Grand Canyon and the Dinosaurs. - Trains are each independently run and there can be delays when people with mobility issues slow up a train further down the track. - Open during the rain. - The Bathroom next to the New Orleans Station is my favorite.

Yelp
What a relaxing train ride with awesome surprises during the ride . Enjoy the trip around Disneyland

Yelp
Love that this isn't just a mode of transportation in Disneyland, but can also double as a ride!
google avatar

Neen M.

Yelp
It's one of my favorites to rest my feet and chill out. Personally I love the train that has the seats facing in toward the park because I think you see more but it's also nice having the seats facing forward because you can see things on the right and left (though more to see on the right) Hop off or take a full loop, or take a loop and a half, etc. So many options you can take and experience.
google avatar

Cory M.

Yelp
The railroad employees have not been friendly on my last few visits. I appreciate Walt's love of trains, but the railroad workers do not seem to have any interest in sharing it. I think Mr. Disney would be rolling over in his grave if he knew this!
google avatar

Nadine C.

Yelp
Free ride around Disneyland! Towards the end of the day, when you're a bit tired from walking around Disneyland and California Adventure, you might want to have a seat, take a little break, skip the crowds, and have a nice tour... There are four train stations...Main Street (at the entrance), Toon Town, Frontierland, and New Orleans Square. The train circles the park in about 25 minutes, and even passes through the Grand Canyon and the Land of Dinosaurs! See if you can spot the Indian on horseback and the coyote on the route... This is a great way to get an overview of Disneyland and listen to the interesting narration during the ride! It was a fun experience because it's a real train with a conductor! Along the way, there are strangers waving hello and goodbye to each other! Let's go again! All aboard!!!
google avatar

Trevor C.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite rides. I first rode it when I was 12 years old and just went back at 50. It circles the perimeter of Disneyland while making various stop along the way. One of the more underrated rides but still super fun.
google avatar

Kimberly J.

Yelp
So much fun! The line isn't long and it's a great way to explore the park. The little ones (and adults) really enjoyed riding on this steam-powered train. All ages and heights are allowed, which was wonderful. The landscapes are inspired by four rivers: the Mississippi, the Columbia, the Missouri and the Rio Grande. You will see recreated indigenous rock formations, wildlife, and waterfalls. Between the Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A. stations you will see Walt Disney's dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World (Land of the Dinosaurs). Here you will encounter a prehistoric land of Audio-Animatronic dinosaurs that have come to life. Very cool! Trains are scheduled to arrive every 5-10 mins. There are four stations: Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, and Tomorrowland.
google avatar

Randy L.

Yelp
I love Disneyland Railroad for it's many different layouts and authenticity of the locomotive. I believe it is 1/5th scale and is a real steam locomotive. It is the first & last attraction you see coming into Disneyland Park from the Main Gates. This is a great way to go around Disneyland Park and get to see backlot attractions not available to other guests. The ride-around takes about 22 minutes. The magic is in discovering what this attraction can do for you after a long day in the park/s, just like the Monorail. Ride it in the day AND night. The atmosphere is completely different at different times of the day/night. Children love this ride because ITS A TRAIN.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
The fact that this service is completely free is still kind of mind blowing to me. It's a great way to get from one major area of the park to another. The entire loop takes about 20 minutes to finish if you sit through the whole thing. That means that if a few trains are running, you don't have to wait too long for the next one if you just missed it. The train seats face inward towards the park so you can see the different attractions as you go by. There are 3 tiered benches. It doesn't really matter where you sit, you'll be able to see. I did notice that although the train is shaded, sitting at the very back might get some sun on you which gets pretty hot. They also have special areas that feature scenes solely for the train riders which is really cool. One of these is a tunnel that has a narrator voice over that talks about the different dinosaurs and animals that used to live in the Grand Canyon.
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
Most people don't realize that this is actually a brilliant way to get around the four destinations of the park without walking as much. In addition there are many hidden sights as you ride the train that were built just for those that are on it. From the grand canyon, dinosaurs, dancing animals under splash mountain, along with many other sights to look at along the way. The train travels the entire park, stopping and picking up people along the way. The main station at the front of the park has alot of history when you first walk in. There is only steps at the 1st stop, no walkways.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Fun! Definitely recommend this as a good way to kill some time when it's rainy or too hot! Love the "behind the scenes" look at a few areas like Frontierland, which we didn't walk through too much.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
The Disneyland Railroad was one of the original attractions when Disneyland open in 1955. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works and encircles the majority of the park with 1.2 miles of track. Today it's powered by biodiesel and the Disneyland Railroad is a great way to see the park and give your tired feet a much needed respite. On our recent trip to Disneyland we rode the train four or five times because our little boy loved it so much! Yes, the dinosaurs and Grand Canyon exhibits are a little over the top, but they are fun to see. No trip to Disneyland should be considered complete without (at least) one roundtrip ticket on the Disneyland Railroad.
google avatar

Ann T.

Yelp
If your legs hurt and you want to take a break from the long walks from one land to another or just want to sit around, this is the perfect ride to do so. The outfacing cars allow you to observe the details and parts of the parks you may not see just by walking around. For example, this train passes through the inside of Splash Mountain. You also learn a lot about the history of the park ! I really enjoyed that and I hope to go back on this train to travel around more at the park.

Yelp
A fellow Yelper recently pointed out my review for the Disneyland Railroad was on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad business page which means one Yelp idiot actually flagged the review and one "genius" Yelp moderator moved the review without even reading it or perhaps he / she couldn't read! Rohlinism: Never underestimate the stupidity of humanity! Regardless, the Yelper with a brain flagged the review so it was removed and now I have an opportunity to write a better review for the Disneyland Railroad (DRR). The DRR was based off of the Carolwood Pacific Railroad (CPR) which Walt Disney built in his own backyard. The 1/8 scale train featured a custom-built, steam-powered locomotive and the railroad encompassed Walt Disney's entire property. He decided to share his fascination with trains with the entire world and on July 17, 1955 (Opening Day) the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad was one of the attractions available for guests to ride. When the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) ceased it sponsorship in 1974, the attraction was renamed the Disneyland Railroad. The 1.2 mile long, 3-foot narrow gauge heritage railroad and (2) of the steam locomotives were built by WED Enterprises and the other (3) historic steam locomotives were originally constructed by Baldwin Locomotive Works. Disneyland named each of the (5) locomotives: C.K. Holliday E.P. Ripley Fred Gurley ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select=XhJhvG5TzQXL_hXpyUoKxw ) Ernest M. Marsh Ward Kimball Someone who shares Sheldon Cooper's enthusiasm for trains might recognize the first four names are all former presidents of AT&SF while the fifth name was a Disney animator who partially constructed the CPR and inspired Walt Disney to add a railroad to Disneyland. Each locomotive has four passenger cars and a parlor car with an engineer, fireman and two conductors manning each locomotive. Your Grand Circle Tour will begin at Main Street Station ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select=97I9oJsXFWnuEFuNdGPO5g ) and the average run time for a complete circling of the park is between 18-20 minutes. Leaving Main Street Station, you will travel over a small bridge, pass by Adventureland before coming to New Orleans Square ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select=S4l6OZDYyV4GQ0-iOF1uPA ) and your first stop. While you are waiting for the "All aboard" at New Orleans Square you will here Morse Code coming from the Telegraph Cable Office. For those who don't know Morse Code, what is being "tapped out" is the dedication speech Walt Disney gave on opening day in 1955. Once the train is on its way again, you will travel through Splash Mountain ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select_video=x5helnJk2fZ0zpbywhHBxQ ) over a trestle bridge which elevates you above Critter Country and takes you around the northern edge of the Rivers of America. The DRR was closed in January 2016 so Disney to demolish Big Thunder Ranch and the backstage areas and begin construction of Galaxy's Edge. This allowed for modifications to the track and upgrades to the dioramas. The new route called Columbia Gorge ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select_video=F7ttdMq4kX5gUaCBUQF98A ) has several rock formations, waterfalls, a trestle bridge and the rail line's only left-hand turn. Toontown Train Depot ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select=huVisvvd0MCNyaBXkP7O-A ) is the next stop on the route. The depot is actually between Fantasyland and Toontown and was once called Videopolis Station for the Videopolis Stage which is now Fantasyland Theatre. Once the ride continues, the train crosses an overpass, moves past It's a Small World façade before coming to a large boulder which is actually a fuel pump for the locomotives. The train will arrive at Tomorrowland Station ( https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/disneyland-railroad-anaheim-4?select=Zt_Q3e_QaW79nCQvLRQ6eQ ) after going underneath the Monorail track. Once you are on your way again, you will pass a Grand Canyon Diorama and hear the third movement from the "Grand Canyon Suite." Right after you will see the Primeval World diorama which is set to the music from Mysterious Island. The dioramas were upgraded with more enhanced scenes and improved animatronics. Once you are back at Main Street Station you will be asked to disembark (even if you boarded at Tomorrowland) and this ends the Grand Circle Tour of the park. The wait times vary and can be found on the Disneyland app or posted at each station. If you are looking to get off your feet without squatting on a bench (if you can find an empty one), this ride is the longest one in the park. Not that Disney is known for its thrill rides, but the DRR is a very relaxing trip around the park if you need a break during your visit!

Yelp
Down by the station early in the morning, see all the mouse ears lined up in a row. I used to think this ride was lame, so I never rode it. That was before I had tired achy feet and began to loathe big crowds. This ride provided pure relaxation. As long as you DONT board on Main St/Front gates. Everyone gets on there because they are to lazy to walk. We boarded in Toon Town along with a handful of other people. A mean a handful. Zero crowds here. The sign said the train comes every 5 minutes. That was a lie. It comes like every 15 minutes. I asked an employee who was very grumpy and dropped his smile a few feet back where the train went. He responded, 'around the park." Mmmmkay, if you say so. It did go around the park. It also drives through the Grand Canyon and the land of dinosaurs. That was pretty cool. We also boarded the train at night so we would get around the chaos of the firework show and exit the park. Still a good time. Board the train and give your feet a break.

Yelp
I really like Disneyland's Railroad. While it may not be the most exciting ride in the park (especially for older kids), it's still a great way to get back to the entrance after a busy day at the park. The railroad has four stops, and they include: New Orleans, Toontown, Tomorrowland, and Main Street. With trains stopping every 5-10 minutes, it doesn't feel like you ever have to wait very long. When you've been waiting in long lines for most of the day, this is a wonderful way to get to any of these stops while at Disneyland. Once on the train, you'll get a chance to see everything from a different vantage point. The kids love those dinosaurs, and the parents enjoy the chance to rest tired feet. You'll be able to see which areas are really crowded (and should be avoided) and which are rides have shorter lines. *****Special note: I just found out that the railroad will be temporarily closing on January 10th for extensive remodeling. Since they don't know just how long this ride will be under construction, it's a great time to enjoy the ride before it closes!

Yelp
[Review #270] 2018 Yelp 100 Challenge (35/100) The Disneyland Railroad is one of the original rides since Disneyland's opening in 1955. The train runs clockwise around the perimeter of Disneyland, & there are 4 train stations (coincidentally, at the 4 cardinal directions of a compass) to board from: Main Street U.S.A. (south; behind the entrance), New Orleans Square (west), Mickey's Toontown (north), & Tomorrowland (east). If you're not traveling by adjacent lands, DRR is a great way to jump among the destinations, or just cruise to cool off during the summer or to give your weary feet a break. :-) My train-loving son loves the Disneyland Railroad... there's a real conductor like Sir Topham Hatt; the train wheeshes & whooshes, whistles, & has a real bell (that's super loud... well, it's really loud to us because we were in the 1st car). It takes a little under 30-minutes to ride through all the stations without getting off. Between Mickey's Toontown & Main Street U.S.A., there's a tunnel that takes you through the Grand Canyon & Land of Dinosaurs dioramas. I thought my 2 year might freak out from the darkness & somewhat scary-looking dinosaurs, but he pretended to be one & roared & snarled. After a long day of walking & standing in line, the RR is a nice break from the crowds. During the day, you can people-watch as you travel around D/L... but night is when the magic comes to life. It's a different perspective riding at night when everything is lit up. It's a MUST evening ride; be sure to dress warmly from the wind chill even in summer. All aboard!! Chuff, chuff, chuff, chuff... huff, huff, huff, huff... puff, puff, puff, puff... ding, ding... wheesh... toot, toot! The Disneyland Railroad is one classic ride that is one ride fits all. :-)

Yelp
If you have a disability and need your mobility device to ride with you, you will never get on this ride. We went on an empty day but each train only has room for one device. Waited at the Tomorrowland stop for 30 min as 3 trains went by, each with its single disability car full. Cast members weren't very sympathetic. Can't imagine how long someone with disabilities would wait on a busy day. Disney should do better.

Yelp
The anticipation for Big Thunder Mountain's triumphant reopening has been increasing over the last year! One would expect that since this ride has been out of commission for over a year that it would have to be spectacular! What else could justify such a lengthy closure??? Once you ride Big Thunder Mountain, you'll appreciate the level of creativity that went into refurbishing this ride. (Don't read any further if you don't want me to spoil it for you!) The ride is much smoother and maybe a bit faster! The special effects are simply amazing! From the bats flapping around within the cave to the holograms that create that magical experience, you'll fall in love with this ride once again! The best part is when the dynamite explodes toward the latter portion of your ride. When it explodes, a misty, smoky substance is emitted creating the illusion that a catastrophic explosion has occurred within the mine! Everyone was cheering, including my three year old niece who couldn't handle Space Mountain! She loves this ride which says a lot because she fears fast rides! Don't worry, the goat is still a permanent fixture within this attraction! This is truly one of my favorite rides at Disneyland and I cannot begin to express how ecstatic I am about the reopening of this awesome ride. I have never had so much fun on this ride before and now I'm over the moon, deeply infatuated with Big Thunder Mountain once again!

Yelp
How have I never done a review of the Disneyland Railroad before? That seems insane to me, honestly, just because I do love this "ride" so very much. It's so relaxing, being able to sit back on the train car's benches, slowly rolling through the different parts of Disneyland, listening to the silly audio that's been the same since before I can remember. I typically like to board the train at the Main Street station, because that scratches my OCD itch when we make a complete circuit around the park. However, I do like to switch things up every now and then and board the train at other stations. Disney's attention to detail extends to the stations, so if you're forced to wait because there's a line or because the next train hasn't yet arrived, you should still have a lot of fun and interesting things to see and research.

Yelp
I usually spend most of my time on Pirates, Indy, and Matterhorn. Big Thunder seems to always be last on my big ride hit list. I forgot how GOOD this ride is. Big Thunder Mountain is the perfect combination of fast with a cool mining town theme. Anyone could ride it, but go during dusk and this ride looks even cooler! The new additions to the ride are pretty snazzy too. The line usually varies between 30-60 minutes, so plan accordingly. Happy riding!

Yelp
The out facing seats are really awesome. Don't be the jerk that leaves trash. Also- of your kid is crying uncontrollably this is not the ride to let them do so. The dinosaur part is so awesome. This ride is nice when the weather is cool, miserable when it's hot. It's nice when you need a break and to sit. I think most people forget about it. For some Reason the haunted mansion station gets stupid busy sometimes. And sometimes the toon town station is closed.

Yelp
A solid 4 stars for any ride that'll allow me to move around the happiest place on earth with the least amount of effort. The trains can be a hidden blessing especially during the hot, summer months when the park is packed. What pushes this review to 5 sparkling stars was my experience riding the Lilly Belle. I've tried several times to secure a spot on the Lilly Belle and today, success was mine! Your best bet is to get your caboose (ha, I'm punny) to Disneyland as early as possible. The Lilly Belle is open to all visitors; however, there is a limited amount of seats available. She's usually on the tracks unless it rains. They do this in order to protect the original carpeting, which - if memory serves me correct - matches the carpet in the apartment above the fire station. Erin, the cast member that conducted our tour, mentioned that only a scrap of the original carpet remains and was sent to a museum archive. The alleged hidden mickeys in the carpet were unintentional. Erin gave us great background information of the car as well as how the railroad came into fruition. Some highlights of the tour was that Walt Disney never actually had the opportunity to ride the Lilly Belle. It was originally named in honor of him. The name was changed the night before the grand unveiling because it was believed that if Walt was alive, he wouldn't have named the car after himself. It was named the Lilly Belle in honor of his wife and also a nod to the small train situated in Walt's backyard, also named the Lilly Belle. That engine is featured in the glass case at the entrance of the main street station. There's also a photo album in the Lilly Belle that has a picture of Walt riding the latter. The Lilly Belle was refurbished a few years ago, but some of the original features remain. I found the stained glass panels to be the coolest ones. According to Erin, they're lead free stained glass which is a rarity. Lead free stained glass gets its color from semi-precious materials. The yellow's derived from gold, the red from rubies, but green's still up for debate. Some other random tidbits: The seats were originally done in leather, but reupholstered to mohair for durability. The wall sconces were originally part of the Haunted Mansion ride. There's a guestbook that you can sign. The Lilly Belle weighs eight tons. You get a cool Lilly Belle ticket as a souvenir of your ride. The car was originally strictly for the Disney family and guests only. Japanese Emperor Hirohito was the first "commoner" to ride. Besides eating bacon, securing a spot on the Lilly Belle is definitely worth waking up early for!
