The 17 Best Restaurants In Mammoth - Mammoth - The Infatuation

"Located in the old Mammoth Police Station, Distant Brewing is a casual spot that does a full menu of bar food, as well as live music and, you guessed it, plenty of beer. The menu includes pizzas, sandwiches, and soft pretzels, but we usually go for the chicken skewers served with sweet teriyaki sauce and a side of coleslaw. Beyond the food, Distant Brewing has over a dozen beers on tap (the best are the El Camino Sierra, a Mexican lager, or Honey Baked, an amber ale), and a handful of non-alcoholic beer. You’ll find many Mammoth locals (and their dogs) here, and it’s best used for a quick bite and a beer." - danielle bauter

Google
Service was amazing. Great selection of brews. Vibe was immaculate. Cute brewery doggo and cool merch. If I were a local this would be my SPOT! Will definitely be our go to when we come back! Chorizo nachos are also pretty delightful! Do recommend!

Google
For those who love unfiltered beer, I highly recommend trying Sky Pillow, which is the best tasting and citrusy. We also have several packs to go. Another good one was Cryo high club. Please add more vegan options to the menu, but the hummus plate was good.

Google
Mammoth needed another brewery and this one for beer I think is a little better. They are pet friendly and dogs are welcome here. The beer is good, the only negative is when the sun is out the tables they have outside are black, it’s almost impossible to put your arms on the table because they are so hot and your beer heats up super fast. They do have some shade covering but I would suggest more….it was quite busy and an order of chicken tenders took a while to get out as we were almost done with our beer…

Hutch K.

Google
Been here twice and it was awesome both times! Perfect place to stop in when you’re out exploring US-395. Very good hazy IPAs with Sky Pillow and Opaque. First time I had the Bacon Mac & Cheese and this most recent time the Triple Smashburger. Huge variety in the menu - something for everyone. Staff was friendly and fast with orders despite it being somewhat busy both times. I snagged a hoodie! Definite stop if you’re coming in from Bodie for a quick recharge or going out to the mountain!

Google
Unfortunately disappointing. We had 2 ok meals (chicken BLT with avocado, 2x Greek salad with chicken) and one decent meal (chorizo nachos). The food wasn’t bad…just…meh. The salads were good. The chicken was bland without the taste of basic salt or pepper. I spiced my salad with buffalo sauce and it was spicy at least. I did have 3 pepperoncini stems in my salad that weren’t the most appealing to crunch down on in the middle of a mouth full of food. The drinks were decent and satisfying. Service was good despite the place being packed. 👍 It was one of those meals where we weren’t necessarily unhappy to come, but unfortunately considering the quality of food at other places, I don’t believe we will be coming back as we don’t drink beer without food.

Google
Amazing Beers. The Black Doubt stout is a must try! The Sky Pellow is a Hazy IPA worth a try. Food is good and service great. And they have a music stage!

Google
Nice alternative to Mammoth Brewing. Had the Helles Lager which was very good. Sampled the blonde which was good as well. Didn't have food so can't comment on that. Good space with lots of outdoor seating. Dog friendly. The beer tender wasn't the friendliest guy I've ever come across but I wasn't there to be his friend so it was fine. Would go back.

Sebastian F.

Google
Great beers. We liked them more than the “other” brewery in town. The food was really tasty too.

Yelp
Stopped in during drive from Reno to Bishop. I was hoping to get a bite to eat to accompany the beer. Kitchen closed an hour before closing so only tried the beer. Had a hazy and a wc, both were really well made. They had a local DJ running the music, vey good. A good crowd for the beer and music even though it was pretty loud. Would definitely try if staying in the Mammoth area - I like breweries so I normally stop by them whenever I can.

Yelp
This place is OK. We stopped in here to meet a friend, and just grabbed a couple beers and some nachos. The place is loud and they allow massive dogs inside, which is just gross, so that was a bit of a turnoff once we sat down. Staff are friendly, and while they do bus tables, they don't clean them. We did really enjoy the couple beers we got (a lager and a hazy IPA). The nachos were about what you'd expect at a place like this. Listen, we were there to hang with our buddy, which was nice, so the place itself didn't matter much, but we would not necessarily recommend it of its own accord. Our daughter did enjoy playing pool there!

Yelp
This place has a lot of potential but didn't quite live up to what I had hoped. First off, the beer pouring. All the beers are poured where the beer is poured along the glass, which traps a bunch of air in the beer. Normally you start the pour along the glass and then tilt it so you get some foam which helps release those gasses. It made the beer hard to drink. Overall the beer was good but was surprised to see the beer poured like that at a brewery. The food was just okay. Pretty ordinary but decent. The hummus plate wasn't very good but the rest was okay. The servers were friendly and the set up is great with a nice patio with a lot of seating, dog friendly, and the indoor area looks cozy. But the beer and food were a little disappointing.

Yelp
I thought I wrote a review for this brewery when I was in town a couple months ago. It's unfortunate my review doesn't reflect the potential of their beers. Let me preface my rating with the fact that the beers were great and that alone would have made it a 5 star place to visit. We shared 2 flights and also shared a couple of their cans from a local LIQ the day before. So the beers get a nod of approval. However, the service was awful. We sat at the bar and were enjoying our time and the first flight. But three things happened with the order of a second flight that ruined the whole experience. 1. Some drunk chick that used to work there was behind the bar and pouring herself a beer and it seemed inappropriate and she was annoying and acting like she owned the place. The actual workers did nothing/said nothing. 2. Some of the workers' friends or whoever (maybe that same drunk lady) completely surrounded us at the bar and invaded our peraonal space, everyone completely oblivious to us gets aggitated (or just not caring). They were really in tuned to talking over the bar to their friends though which added insult toninjury 3. There was an animal on the bar that everyone thought was so cute, but it is almost getting its tail in our drinks. So not only was it completely unprofessional but a health code violation. The workers still didnt seem to care. We went and sat outside to finish our last two samplers. They were clueless to the fact we left or why, which highlightes the customer service we experienced.

Yelp
A must-stop every time we are in town. Staff's always friendly, beer is 10/10 (love you, Sky Pillow), and food totally hit the spot this last time around. Surprisingly, few eateries around town are dog-friendly, so we appreciate a place we can come with our pup while we have a beer and a bite to eat.

Yelp
This place rules. Brewers that care about your palate, cooks that take care of your nourishment... cool atmosphere. Dont even get me started on the bar staff. Welcoming, speedy and fun. Then there is Sergio.... Rock star man.... 500 stars. Check em out and grab some beer to go too.
google avatar

Nima P.

Yelp
Good beer. Fun ambiance. Love that they take Polaroids for $1 and you can pin to the wall. Great service and we enjoyed the nachos with chicken and hummus.

Yelp
Great place for beer in the mountains! Food was pretty good, the environment was laid back, and they had a Padres game on. They also have a live entertainment schedule for the month. Ordered a wide variety of food. The best items were the Cuban sandwich, Buffalo Chicken Caesar Wrap, and the Bacon Mac n Cheese. Would skip the chicken tenders and pizza next time. Beer was great and there was a variety to try. On a Wednesday evening, last call for food was at 8:00 p.m. and last call for beer was at 9:00 p.m.

Yelp
The atmosphere in this place is phenomenal. Everyone was friendly and super chill, there were people sitting down for dinner, people at the bar grabbing drinks, some people outside enjoying the night air, people playing pool, but everyone was very respectful and cool. I had a tangerine beer and my date had a sea to summit and then we swapped because I didn't care for the tangerine and she didn't care for the honey flavor of hers. We had food; I had the pulled pork sandwich which was a little spicy but so delicious, and she had the tacos which were loaded with fresh ingredients and veggies, and some of the best steak I've had. Reasonably priced, great food, good beer, friendly people and good vibes, 10/10 I'd recommend this place to anyone in the Mammoth area, and I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Svetlana S.

Yelp
The owner (Kirk) challenged me to reconsider my rating, and he was not wrong. We had a few issues with an order and the staff handled it fast and efficient in the firendliest way possible. So here comes the upgrade : )

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to this establishment based on the reviews and the recommendations and were left pretty dissatisfied. We walk in , no acknowledgment which is okay, and we did take a few minutes probably 8-10 min to figure out what we wanted because again we have never been here. We proceeded to stand in line then get our order taken by an older gentleman who was not only passive aggressive he was just weird. Absolutely no emotion, no customer service skills and in general it left us feeling like how are people recommending this place? He checked our IDs for 3 minutes , but then proceeded to give us attitude when we asked to taste the huckleberry seltzer? I'm sorry if we're inconveniencing you at your place of work but I unfortunately have to say it IS your job to attend to our needs which honestly we didn't need much. Our food was pretty below average, we asked for our chicken tenders extra crispy they came out soft and my burger was over salted so I'm guessing the good reviews are coming from locals who don't know any better, but I would skip this place.

Yelp
Everything here is delicious. Great service, friendly staff, and the food is amazing. Perfect spot to enjoy good food and great beer. One of the best places in Mammoth Lakes -- highly recommend! And the music!! Open mic on Mondays... just wow!
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Great beer. Amazing food. Wonderful service. Ghost west coast pilsner was delicious and nachos are a must. Was great that they had ice cream for the kiddos and the bacon mac & cheese was so good. Would love to have tried more items! Tons of seating which is great. Unfortunately we arrived hungry so missed photos.

Yelp
Distant Brewing is a super cool spot in Mammoth Lakes. Great beer, great food. We ordered the pretzel sticks and BLTA. The house made beer cheese was incredible. The bread on the BLTA was crazy. Never had such a soft ciabatta with such a good crust. Bacon was obviously high quality and they threw cheese on it too, a nice surprise. They obviously care about their brewing as well. The brewery is attached to the tap room and restaurant. Any time I find a barrel aged sour that is done in traditional foeder style, I have to order it. Distant did not disappoint. Their beer had a bit more wood flavor to it but still a great showing for the style. They have just about something for everyone. Light beer, dark beer, hoppy beer, and a few non-beer alcoholic options too. The space here is also rad. They seem to often have live music. When we were there on a Saturday night, it was packed even without the music. They have a few pool tables and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I know that Distant will always be on my brewery list when in the Mammoth area from now on. Cheers!

Yelp
After a day of fishing - we stopped by Distant Brewing... my oh my ... my partner loved the beer here, it's the ideal West Coast IPA (: Was craving for mozzarella sticks and Chicken Caesar Salad - the portions are great for sharing! Relax vibe, staff is nice and lots of indoor and outdoor seating available. They have pool tables available as well. We'll definitely be back the next time we visit Mammoth!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun spot, but pretty chaotic and feels unnecessarily disorganized. There are so many servers, but no one takes your order, you have to go stand in line. So if you want another beer, you have to go wait in line again (it's a pretty big deterrent). As for the food, it was all very mediocre. We ordered the chicken tenders which were barely cooked, the mac n cheese which was like pasta in cheese soup with some melted cheese on top, and the pizza... I've had better frozen. The only thing that was actually good was the soft pretzel and the hazy IPA. Won't be coming back

Neha N.

Yelp
The vibe of this place is amazing! We ordered 3 drinks a sour, a stout and another beer that I don't remember but all three were great. The food was good too, we ordered Mac n cheese which turned out to be our favorite definitely recommend. We also got the Nachos and the chicken skewers, the Nachos were great, chicken skewers were juicy and tender I however did not enjoy the sauce that came with the skewer.

Yelp
Beer and food were great with lots of options for everyone! The servers were friendly and attentive! We watched a game here and it was a great vibe and lots of fun! It's dog and kid friendly too with plenty of outdoor seating! We will definitely be back!

Matt G.

Yelp
This place is hands down the BEST brewery I've been to in all of California. Great vibe, delicious food and most of all- the beer is top notch. The staff there is also amazing and provides service with a smile If you're ever on the east side, Distant is 100% worth a visit
google avatar

Julianne L.

Yelp
Good selection of drinks and good food options! We sampled a few beers and ordered some, as well as got the pretzels with beer cheese, which really hit the spot after a day on the slopes. It was a busy night, the pool tables were full, and luckily we got a table. The staff is friendly, but the service was slow at times when they'd be busy hugging and singing with each other lol. Must've been a particularly good and lively night when I was there!
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Stopped in for some post dinner beers on a Wednesday and it was packed to the brim with people and dogs inside. The assortment of beers they offered were amazing, we found so many good brews and even filled a couple crowlers to take back home with us from this trip. The stouts were probably some of my favorites, well balanced full bodied profiles you can easily taste the elements of each flavor brewed in clearly. The cider was light and crisp. I probably should have brought a few more crowlers back but I will be back again soon!
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Good food and good beer. Nice ambience. Friendly staff. Cool merch too. Looks like they do live music too
google avatar

Alicia G.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick beer. The staff were very helpful and gave us recommendations. I drank the pale ale Sea to Summit and it was really good. 5:00 pm on a Friday night, they're a little busy but they have plenty of seating inside as well as seating outside with heaters.
google avatar

Renee I.

Yelp
So glad my bf suggested we stop here after some fun in the snow. Loved loved loved their hazy sky pillow. We also ordered their chicken tenders twice, it was so good! Extra bonus is they are dog friendly. It was a bit tight inside so we sat outside and they kindly turned on the heat lamp for us. Playlist was great, food and drinks were delicious, it was really nice to wind down before we headed down the mountain. This will definitely be a regular spot the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
Best beer and atmosphere in Mammoth! I went there frequently when I lived in town and always look forward to coming back for a visit. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. And the music, pool tables and patio make it the best spot for a post-hike/ski brew!!
google avatar

Hagar A.

Yelp
A group of my friends came here for drinks and it was a fun experience. We ordered bourbon stout and my god it was so creamy and rich, had to slowly sip on it. The outdoors seating area was super cute and spacious for a large friend group. Nice service as well. Bathroom was clean too which I appreciate when I'm in public . Always a great spot to come back to when in Mammoth
google avatar

Arezu S.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! The service was so great. Fast service and the food was delicious, portions were generous!! The beer so good!

Donnie G.

Yelp
Love this place! The staff are super friendly. Awesome beer selection--tons of variety and everything tastes great. The food's way better than you'd expect from a brewery too. Chill vibe, great people, and killer brews. Definitely a go-to spot while in Mammoth!

Larry R.

Yelp
Hard to find a parking space between lunch and dinner, but about 5 spots opened after I got my first beer. Sitting outside was nice but windy. They had a Porter AND a Stout And an imperial stout, unusual this time of year for many places ( in Portland where I live). Unfortunately I didn't like either one, didn't try the imperial. Their Philly was really salty it wasn't on a French roll either, I think it was minced up with cheese mixed in, like some places now do with hamburger & cheese, forget what it is called. The staff was friendly and ordering was easy, though my number blew over.
google avatar

Alice B.

Yelp
Hands down the best brewery in Mammoth. With the new kitchen this is top dog for amazing beer and yummy food. The staff is always warm and welcoming. Definitely a staple in town!
google avatar

Trev W.

Yelp
Distant is an epic brewery! Good people, good vibes and for sure the ambiance is amazing. Stop in every time we come through!
google avatar

Kacey B.

Yelp
Great beer, great food , and friendly service... what more could you want ? Usually our first and last stop when we get to Mammoth. I could go for the soft pretzels or buffalo chicken wrap and beer right nowwww
google avatar

Chris

Yelp
Why is this place rated so high? The beer is just ok I got the hazy. Kinda had a weird taste. But the reason for 1 star is the pizza wtf. I've had frozen pizza way better than this. It was a floppy mess. Tasted like canned tomato sauce basically no flavor the pepperoni is cheap and low grade cheese. I can't believe they serve that. I would rate 1.5 out of 10. Not sure what's going on but they need to get out of the pizza business. Gotta be the worst pizza ever.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Cute, lively place. Pizza was good, burger was all right, mago kamboocha was amazing. They have music and pool table along with outdoor seating. I would probably come back for the drinks, not the food so much.
google avatar

Yelp
Who would've thunk we'd find an establishment that not only serves up delightful craft beers but also tasty morsels all the way out in Mammoth Lakes? Distant Brewing is all that AND a bag of chips (which coincidentally is included with all sandwich orders)! It's the ideal spot to relax after hitting the slopes. I started with a custom flight including the following: 1 - Bounce to the Ounce (Hazy IPA) 2 - Peak to Peak (Pilsner) 3 - KupferBier (Vienna lager) 4 - Sure, Bert! (Sour) As you can see, Distant has a legit and wide selection of craft beers. Besides IPAs, they also offer lagers, pilsners, stouts, sours, hard kombuchas, hard seltzers and hard ciders. They have something for every beer aficionado! To eat, I ordered the B.L.A.T. and it was quite possibly the best meal I had on our trip. The sourdough was perfectly toasted and the avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion and cheddar cheese filler tasted fresh. The meal is also served with the aforementioned bag of chips and a pickle. Brewery staff was efficient with taking and delivering orders to customers seated both inside and outside. I was sporting a Sacramento brewery's t-shirt and one of the servers recognized it so he and I chatted it up. If you find yourself in Mammoth and thirsty for beer, pop into Distant Brewing for a pour!
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
Was looking for a brewery with a good vibe outdoor patio. Distant met that, and exceeded with the beef dip sandwich - the Swiss cheese was so good!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
One of the best breweries ever. The staff are friendly and get to know the customers providing a great experience. The beer is not only solidly good, but they are constantly releasing new beers to keep things interesting. Highly recommend.

Yelp
After spending most of the day hiking in the local area, my husband and I came to Distant Brewing with our two dogs to enjoy the beautiful weather and the long holiday weekend. Everyone had the same idea as the patio was quite crowded with pups and people. Luckily, we managed to grab a spot in the shade and thoroughly enjoyed all of the people and pup watching. We placed our order inside for our beverages and some pretzel bites to share. I thoroughly enjoyed the huckleberry seltzer that I ordered, and my husband was a big fan of their brown ale. Of the two breweries we tried over the weekend, I enjoyed Distant Brewing a little more.
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
The patio has potential, but it's a bit dirty and unwelcoming. We tried three of their beers, all of them great. The two food items we ordered were mediocre at best, and service was pretty unfriendly. Overall things felt lackluster. Based on other reviews we were hoping for more- definitely won't return though I realize we might have caught them on an off day.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Totally get the great reviews for this place! We got a flight of beer, all were really good!!! It was a not hard to figure out how things worked there, due to it being a very busy 4th for them. But, the food came out fast! Cute place, looks like they have live music at times, that would be fun!
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
Excellent!!!!! Great beer, food, and super friendly staff!!!! Had a great time with our group! Cheers!!

Yelp
***Updating my review because of the managers rude responses on both of my reviews. Which yes I reviewed on multiple sites so people can make an educated decision before giving an establishment money. Rude staff, rude owner. Apparently this place has a 5 sample policy and then they offer a flight. Fine. But I had 2 samples which I didn't even finish because I didn't want a flight I wanted a full sized beer. Again standard at every brewery I've visited and worked. He also edited his response, to an even more snarky response- very flipping unprofessional. So I conveniently pasted it here for your review. Response from the owner We allow all the free tastes you want, but our policy to ask if you'd like a flight on the 5th sample. First time here in Mammoth and this was our first stop in town and decided to stop here to try the great beer selection and lunch. Based on the reviews I expected more. I asked to try 2 IPA tastes and my husband 3 because he is a bit more picky- the bartender abruptly and incredibly rudely said "you guys just want to do a flight." Suggesting that apparently trying beer at this particular brewery is frowned upon? Or maybe he was constipated and felt like being unkind- but it was really a rude welcome and we passed on lunch. And honestly an odd suggestion considering my husband and I have vastly different beer tastes and were apparent with which beer we were tasting. The NZ IPA was really delicious which is rather disappointing how off put we were literally being in the building for all but 5 minutes- we couldn't wait to leave to find food elsewhere. He ain't poo pooing on our wedding anniversary vacation or time in Mammoth. Word of advice, if you love your job and craft beer, educating your customers and letting them find something that suits them is sort of easy to do and also requires absolutely no effort. (Worked at breweries for years and trying "tastes" is pretty standard so maybe get off that little high horse.) Good beer, poor hospitality for us this time. Find somewhere else that actually wants you there

Yelp
Dannnnng them Hazys are solid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm typing more just to hit 85 characters. Nothing I can add other than HOT DAYUMMMM

Yelp
Chorizo nachos were super tasty and went well with this refreshing gose that I ordered. Really appreciated the casual ambience, dog-friendly patio, great service and no one cared that my friend, dog and I came from paddling the lake in our gear to go have lunch and beers! If you are vegetarian, my friend really enjoyed her grilled cheese and you can add tomatoes (or avocado, probably).

Jim A.

Yelp
Beer was great. The pizza was just ok. We had the pepperoni pizza and a pretzel. The pretzel was good. Service was ok, but they stop serving food at 8pm, which we were not aware and barely were able to order. At the end of the meal, they really worked hard to push us out. @8:57 they played Closing Time and then at 8:58 they turned up the music so loud we could not longer talk. So we left,

Dorothy H.

Yelp
Have been here a few times and have enjoyed the food and brew. Have had the pizza, Greek salad, and burger. It can get crowded but people are friendly and share their tables with you. You can also sit outside. I wish I could remember the names of the beers I had, but I go for fruity and they had one or two fruity beers. There is live music which I enjoyed. We were at Distant between summer and ski season and its clear a lot of locals come here. If one doesn't want to stay for a brew one can buy it in cans.
google avatar

Jenn M.

Yelp
It was so nice having a meal out and not feeling like it was way too expensive for what it was. Great value, which doesn't feel so normal these days. The portions were large, the ingredients fresh and it all tasted great. My friend liked the beer he had. The counter people/servers weren't very friendly, perhaps overworked or understaffed.
google avatar

Brenda V.

Yelp
Beer is good, can never go wrong with that. However, if you're looking for a welcoming atmosphere with friendly service, this is not the place. We visited several venues while in town and this by far was the most underwhelming for food and service. It's a shame.
google avatar

Joanna B.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite and brew and overall was a good experience! My husband got some ipa with coconut in it. It was interesting to see some of the beer flavors they had. I work in the beer world myself so it's always exciting to see what other breweries are coming up with. We also split a large Buffalo chicken flatbread. It was pretty tasty! Not much Buffalo to it but it was pretty good none the less. After we got it I went to ask for some ranch and was surprised to not be charged for ranch so that was nice. Comfortable seating out front that is also dog friendly. Most of the service was okay but there was one server who was pretty rude which was the only negative part of our experience. I had asked if there are any menus I could take outside to look at and she snapped back to just take a picture of the one on the wall. Then when my husband ordered his beer she seemed very annoyed he had questions about some of the options. We would come back though and look forward to making another stop next time we're in town!
