5 Stars Awesome spot—just a stone’s throw from my hotel, and it couldn’t have been more convenient. District Brew Yards in Wheeling has 5+ brewery options all under one roof, and the self-serve setup is such a fun and efficient way to sample different beers. I enjoyed two solid lagers, and there’s no shortage of space to relax—both inside and out. The outdoor area is perfect for these beautiful spring days. Food options looked great, and I’ll definitely be back. Especially looking forward to Fridays—half-off wings sounds like the perfect pairing for another beer run!

An imperial stout in June; refreshing hop water; great tasting food that won’t break the bank; this place was great. I love places that serve stouts in the summertime and this place had one. They also had the best NA hop water I’ve ever had here. Chris, the gentleman that greeted me, was extremely kind and helpful. He showed me around and explained how things work. Also, beer is brewed on site too. All around a great place.

Google
Cool spot, with a little bit of something for everybody. Beers are a bit pricey at about $0.70/oz, charged by the ounce for pour-it-yourself = $11 for a pint. But, 44 taps, with a nice variety from several local breweries. Plenty of to-go beer and merch. Pizza (separate payment) is delicious, too.

It's always a good time at District Brew Yards. The fact that you can sample many different brews at one time is a draw for me as I like to sample. Given the number of taps available for each brewery, I was surprised to find many taps off for lack of supply. The food served at this location was mainly pizza but it was well made, fresh, and flavorful for a reasonable price. It's a fun beer hall atmosphere for hanging out.

Google
Amazing brewery, definitely a must try. It's self-service so you can do small pours and taste as many as you'd like. Nearly every beer was phenomenal, I was especially happy with their unique brand of a Hefenweize called Chicago-Hefe. They have a huge selection. Plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating. As a bonus the food there was also very good, the wings were cooked to perfection. Plenty of board games too for passing the time with friends and family. I'll definitely be back!

Google
No customer service. 1. They ring you in with a card you cannot use to order food with, just the taps. 2. For food you go to a kiosk to order that has no allergen info, or usable descriptions. With no waiters and no one Manning the station ... you stuck. you have to give you email and order from a kiosk even if you say no at the beginning. I had to phone the restaurant while I was in it to ask menu questions. I was there and ate and still have no idea who i talked to. So 3 THREE separate touches, 2 bills, one email address given, and one new account there with a security deposit... to just to order food and drink. Frustrating. On the good side the food was very good. But there is a lot to be said about the ordering processes.

We ended up here by accident and really enjoyed ourselves! Our lunch plans got upended while we were enroute and saw this place and decided to give it a try. Walked in, got the spiel from the guys at the counter and collected our "cards" so we could use the dispensers. Ordered lunch, tried quite a few of the brews and even played a couple of rounds of games we selected from the expansive selection. We all enjoyed our food, except for the banana pudding - it was really grainy. It's easy to go a little crazy with the beer/cider/wine dispensers as it's all priced by the ounce, we spent about $20 per person. If we're in the neighborhood I'm sure we would stop in again as it was a fun afternoon. I'm sure this place gets hopping in the summer time with their big patio.

Google
I think the place is nicely decorated, modern with a beautiful outdoor patio and a couple of fireplaces. But the idea that you have to load money on one of their cards to be able to get a drink is just not for me. It was my first time there, so I was not familiar with the concept. I started looking for a bar and the two young ladies at the front door were absolutely not helpful at all. They didn't even greet me or said hello as I walked into the establishment. They looked so bored!!! After I walked around and couldn't find a bar, I had to ask one of the customer's how the whole system worked. I immediately turned around and went to a place where you can get service. If I'm going to walk endlessly, pouring one or two ounce beers to find something I like!!! It better be free. I also don't think that they have that micro brewery atmosphere. I wish them well, but it's simply not my kind of place after a long day of working very hard on my feet.

Yelp
AMAZING customer service and delicious variety of drinks. The people working there were so helpful and kind and I couldn't be more thankful for such a great experience. LOVE this place!

Phaedra W.

Yelp
District brew yards is a lovely establishment that brews the beer for four different breweries. I love the ability to be able to sample a variety. If you'd like anything, they sell four packs of the various concoctions for the breweries as well. Being able to pour your own and pay by the ounce leads to a lot of exploring and even allows you to do some creative mixing. I love mixing sours with a calmer ale. The space is large with plenty of seating indoors, there is a nice patio space, and plenty of board games. The kitchen serves pizza.

Yelp
Okay, so first off, I absolutely love the concept of the bar & it is an amazing large place to be for a get together. The beer selection & technology is 5*. Probably closer to a 3.5 star However, the things that bring it down to a 3* are why I don't think it will do well in the suburbs, even Chicago are. 1) Beer prices equal out to $10 a pint for even the cheapest beer ($0.60/oz). Yeah it is really cool you can choose what you want but unless you just want to get 3oz every 20min with plan to be there for a couple of hours hanging with friends for a party, you're not going to enjoy the bill. I understand the concept of why it would be more expensive but maybe $9 a pint 2) You're also going to hate the bill when you realize you got a 15% service charge on food when you pick it up at the counter. No warning at all on the screen or above the kiosk. Glad I didn't tip. 3) Food prices were on the "Downtown Chicago" level for the portion sizes. Pizzas were expensive. Tasty yes, but steep. 4) they only have one TV in the whole building & was very pixelated. Was more of a projection TV than one massive nice HD tv. Overall the place is great & fun but the prices make it a little hard to be willing to go if it isn't for a party or a long event like a sporting game. I came here for the Packers-Bears game so it was a good place to stay for 3hrs but none of us left thrilled when we realized everything we spent got a 15% service charge until you are emailed your receipt. No paper receipts, just emailed. Lose points for deceiving customers. Honestly, you're more likely to make more money on repeat customers than the 15% up charge for nothing.

Yelp
Update to my former review: I came back to District Brew Yards with some family after we had made a reservation for a cousin hangout. We had a fantastic night here! It was their first time at District Brew Yards and they really liked it! It's been a year since I've been to district brew yards but my original post raves about the Nashville smoked wings. I was dyyyyinnnggg to order them again and was looking forward to it. However by the time our event came, when I got to the kiosk to place my order the Nashville smoked wings weren't an option anymore I just wanna know why they were removed from the menu because these were amazing!! I substituted and got a hot honey flavor, which was still delicious but man it doesn't compare to those smoked wings District Brew Yards if you're seeing this, please please please reconsider adding the Nashville smoked wings back to the menu! If not, please send me the recipe because I miss them.

Yelp
Updated review: The last time I was at District Brew Yards I ordered a pizza from their new food vender. You have to order from a kiosk and you are not able to customize or modify anything. When you finished ordering you are hit with a 15% service fee. THERE WAS NO SERVICE PROVIDED!!!!! I ordered on the kiosk. I picked up the food from the counter. I feel that this fee is unjustified! This hurts the workers there because after being gauged with a service fee, you are asked to leave a tip. I have a feeling that the tips will be lower because of the outrageous service fee! The quality of the food has always been top notch. It is unfortunate that others serve the same quality food for a lower price. I also wish that District Brew Yards would add more comfortable seating. The benches that they have are uncomfortable after a long period of time. It makes me feel like I'm in middle school. Unfortunately, I can longer recommend District Brew Yards.

Yelp
District Brew Yards has come to the 'burbs! When I lived in Chicago, I was so close to their West Loop location and my friends loved it so much, I was there once every couple weeks. The Wheeling location has the same really cool vibe, helpful staff, a lot of the same breweries on tap even - basically they kept a lot of the integrity of the brand in this new location and I love to see it. They also have a tiny section with a few NA options which is nice! They didn't use to have that 5 years ago at the Chi location! If you haven't ever been to District, it's super cool as you get a card and pay~as~you~go for beer! Yep, you can have a half glass or even just a sip for a quarter, LOL! Whatever amount and variety you want to try, they're ready for you. I was always a huge beer flight fan and loved trying everything. If you're like me, you are going to fall in love with this brewery vibe spot. Some beers will be hits for you, some will be misses. Such is life and our differences in palates. I love sours, but not everyone does! So if you really want to get a beer that your palette will enjoy, check Untappd for the beer rating and full details. Knowledge is power when it comes to picking what you consume. ;) aka....if you don't like the beer you pick when there are 100 options, that's on you homie. Mixed table sizes and styles (again like the other location), including a really dope outdoor space. They even have games you can grab and play, how nice! Love that District has come to the 'burbs! I know all you exhausted parents could use a brewski and District is surprisingly baby-lugging friendly!

Yelp
I sadly have to update my review to only 3 stars due to the new food offerings and not so great beers we had. I always spoke DBY's praises as the best pour your own place, but it looks like they have made some changes pretty recently that would sway me from going back. Mostly getting rid of the vast food options (bye bye brisket fries, I'll miss you forever) to replace with a pretty run of the mill food option. New menu features pizza, wings, sandwiches (but..it's just one sandwich + a burger and then a wrap), and salads. Personally, it just doesn't feel like an elevated experience anymore with the new menu - and no shareables anymore which is a huge bummer. The breweries have remained the same, but there was one beer, that was just the absolute worst. It was a little flat tasting so it may have been a weird keg / the end of the keg - but still not an overall great experience.

Yelp
This type of pour your own and pay by the ounce format lends itself really well to sampling many really unique beers, allowing you to explore and cover a lot of ground quickly. My approach was an ounce pour of each, to share with my wife and get a feel for the bouquet and mouth feel of each without spending a fortune. This allows you to find your jam and either pour more or take some product home with you. Our jam this day ended up being the wild turkey barrel stout from Burnt City (One of the better barrel stouts I have had; and I am not usually a barrel beer fan, too sweet for this kid), which we ended up cutting with Around the Bend's Octoberfeista. I remember when this place used to be the Ram restaurant and brewery. We were sad to see it go. One year they had arguably one of the best pumpkin beers I've ever had. The space sat vacant for awhile, so glad to see that it has a new life. They did a great job with the interior and exterior. Inside is big, open and welcoming with snazzy accent lighting. The outside patio is large and features two large gas fireplaces and plenty of places to sit. They even have games to grab to get your game on with your group. My wife and I played connect four and I am here to tell you it was a shut out, I never stood a chance ;) They have order kiosks for food and you put your dirty beer and food ware in conveniently located empty bins that are clearly marked. This is a terrific place to come, hang, and catch up with your group. I can also see it lending itself well to group functions. Kudos to DBY upon learning that they now do the brewing for Twisted Hippo. Long story short, the wife and I stopped into Twisted Hippo's original location for the first time the afternoon before it burnt down. We were horrified to learn of the news the next morning. Two negatives in my opinion that I will call out: 1) The card precharge. Not a fan, never have been. They will charge your card $40 just to play, then they will charge your card for whatever you end up spending. So if you spend $40 while you are there, you are effectively out $80 in your account. The initial $40 charge rolls back to your account whenever your bank gets around to it. Not sure why this is. They do communicate it clearly on a board (see pic) when you check in. Why is this necessary? 2) They have some cool beer merch for sale but think concert merch prices, way too high. They do a good job of having a little something for everyone. There is beer of course, but there is also wine, cider, NA, THC seltzer, etc. Some come get your brew on!

Yelp
Went here last weekend and had a lot of fun with our group. I ate prior because they have no food that is gluten friendly. My friends who did get the food (order on a kiosk) said it was ok. The tap room itself was pretty cool as you use the brewery card that is linked to your debit/credit. My friends thought it was nice to pay by ounce besides you can try a beer before you put your own. They do have a GF cider which was tasty and perfectly cold. Only complaint is the benches were uncomfortable for most of our group and the drinks were on the higher side for craft; we paid 40. Protip they have games you can play, but we brought our own. Fun place to meet up, but not sure we'll be back.

Tasha M.

Yelp
So fun! It was my first time here, upon entering they gave a brief explanation of how things work and where everything is in the facility. They have a selection of games and also outdoor seating that has a fire pit. They have beer and wine as well as alternative drinks. They recently added Paulie Gees pizza which we enjoyed. Pictured is the big bad wolf pizza , US pizza cup winner pizza and a double burger with fries. The space is spacious and tables are communal is the best spot for groups, family night (minors not allowed without supervision in the pouring area), even a date night. I hope this place sticks around it makes Wheeling a fun night out. The parking lot wraps around the building.

Sherwin C.

Yelp
What a cool spot to hangout with friends, enjoy some board games, eat some delicious food, while enjoying a large beer selection! I have driven by this spot many times before but without large signage near the road I hadn't realized that this spot was here until a group of friends had suggested that we meet here. When I arrived, I was quite surprised at how huge the parking lot was, and even more amazed at how spacious the inside is. Unlike standard bar food, the food here is quite nice with good quality meats, flavorful seasoning, nice presentation, and good textures. Items like the brisket fries and pulled pork nachos are large enough to share amongst several people with plenty of meat provided in each dish. The beer selection is quite expansive as well with lots of really cool themed stations where you can self-serve a variety of different options. This place is also mostly self serve for things like water and food (order from a kiosk, pick up at a window). The game selection here is quite expansive as well, though some of the games are in better shape than others (for example the uno cards are well worn) but exploding kittens looked almost new). This is very convenient if you want to gather to play board games without the hassle and mess of hosting at home. The only draw back is that the music can be quite loud so with a larger group of 6-8, it may be difficult to hear one another across the table. Overall, definitely worth a visit here if you're a board game or beer lover.

Susan S.

Yelp
Self serve you enter and buy a card and it's basically a debit card to go and try the beer and a couple of wines . Not a big beer drinker but it's a really cool venue. They have food which looked like pretty good bar food. And they have all these board games you could play it's cute really big ceilings so it is loud but I could see you going with a big group of beer drinkers they would have a good time and playing lots of games

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
I came here for the first time today. Mom + Dad and 3.5 month old. Impressed. It's big, plenty of seating and very kid friendly, don't be pushed away because it's kid friendly. There are all ages, a great spot for beer and food. The beer variety is great, you can try it as you go with a card and fill your own glass. Sample what you want and move along. Order the food from the kiosk and the food was great. We had the wings, burger and garlic rolls. Very good! I will say. There's an older gentleman working the front, PROMOTE HIM. He did the tour, showed everyone around, treated everyone with kindness interacted with our little guy, and genuinely cares. He even wouldn't let my husband carry all our food to the table and helped. The best service I've had in years. Thank you :)

Lisa K.

Yelp
I need to come back for the beer so this review will be updated. Came here with my parents for the food and I can say that the main draw is not for the food. It's definitely for the beer and the food should be a comforting afterthought to help you drink more beer. We got a burger, a taco, and I think a prime brisket sandwich and it was all just ok. I think the taco was the biggest miss. Ambience is great with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Perfect for big groups as well.

Ruchi A.

Yelp
So good! It's mostly self service but the staff there was helpful! The food was overall really good. Didn't love the special pulled chicken but the other menu options were awesome! Great place to go to with friends or family and kid friendly with all of the board games

Dave K.

Yelp
This is not a good place for food. Period. The concept for drinks is interesting. When you enter they ask you to purchase a card that you load with a specific amount of money and then you can go to a bunch of drink stations around the interior and try different drinks an ounce at a time. It's 95% beer options of many varieties and a couple wine, a seltzer/cider, and hard soda. There is a place to order food, but it's like ordering food from a high school cafeteria. And the food sucks. It is not good. Go somewhere else first and avoid the food here. They have some games in the back of the room to enjoy while eating at communal tables as if you were in a German Brauhaus. It's an interesting concept, but the food is not good. Go for the drinks but avoid the food.

Alice B.

Yelp
We stopped by on a quiet Sunday afternoon while we were out in the burbs and really enjoyed ourselves! Same concept as most self-serve bars- You link your card to a brewery card when you walk in, place it in a holder above the tap that has the brew you want, dispense as much or as little as you want, done! It also shows you how much money you're racking up on the card so don't let your friend use it. Also remember to grab it when you're done pouring so you don't pay for someone else's beer! I liked that they had different glass options. Great beer selection including Twisted Hippo and Burnt City, and a few wine, seltzer, cider, and NA options so you can drag your anti-beer friends along. The foooood- we wanted to try it all, but settled for the pulled pork fries and fried pickles. You order on a screen so you can basically experience District Brewyards with minimal human contact if that's your preference. Super nice staff though! Okay back to the food- Hands down best fried pickles I've had in the Midwest. I could eat eight plates of these loaded fries and not stop there. Came for the beer, will come back for the food (okay the beer too)!

Pat B.

Yelp
I had a great experience at DBY. I do recommend reserving a time before going. I went on a sour moment i.e thinking it was a bar and there were about 20 tables with reserve on them. I had to wait at their one bar area for 20 minutes for a table to be freed up

Mary W.

Yelp
My husband and myself enjoy a good pint and food. This one is fairly close to home. SO GaVE IT A TRY. It different in the fact it's a CARD tap pull. By this, I mean the beers are poured by an oz up to a pint. By using a card. You choose how much of a certain beer by the pull of the tap. And it tells you how much each pour is going to be. This place carries 4 different breweries. So, around 20 flavors to pick ftom. Plus a couple of wines and a cider. Water is available. There is plenty of bench sitting and some smaller tables. Beautiful lighting from the ceiling. Outside sitting with large fireplaces Not the best of views. But who cares when with family or friends. The food is separate from the beer card. There are two computers in the far left of the building, which you look up the items on the menu. Pick them and pay with a credit card. It's all so easy. We were there at lunchtime. So, it's not that busy. Food came out in a timely manner. . There is a table full of boxed games. Love this. Something to ingage family and friends. There isn't any televisions. Not sure how that works for them, but tvs do bring in more people that like sports. (And beer and sports do work hand in hand) I don't remember if there was music playing. If it was, it was quiet. The food was good. Something for everyone on the menu.

Steve A.

Yelp
Cool that this place has opened a suburban location. District Brew Yards has the original in the city and this is like the same thing except it's bigger with more selection. It's the same concept though. A few smaller breweries share a building and customers pour their own beers. There's also a full kitchen. A good way to sample a few breweries. It has a few small ones that don't have the resources to have their own building, so they have a place in here. The beers are poured by yourself. Customers get a card at the front. Use this card to activate the taps. Among the breweries is Burnt City. The Frost Dragon Cold IPA was one of their selections on tap. It's about $0.70 an ounce for most beers. Those not wanting beer can also go to the section that has wines on tap. Also food. There's a kitchen. Mostly meaty options but a few vegetarian items like hummus. The Sikil Pak is good for sharing. It's $9 for a lot. This is hummus with cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and radish. Good place to come and sample beers. It has quite a few. There's also a kitchen so you can get some barbecue, chips, and whatever.

Vita P.

Yelp
Cool brewery in the area, plenty of space for a party or happy hour after work. Upon entry, they give you a card which is used to purchase your beer. A bit pricey, but the concept is cool. Plenty of beer options for either the novice beer drinker or experienced craft beer drinker. Simply slot your card in the machine at each beer tap and pour! Descriptions of the beer are available and you can pour as much or as little as you want. I love the outside space - fire pits, large tables, lights, plenty of space. They also have board games to borrow. Food is available, but menu isn't very extensive. Not many options, if any, for vegans either. We ordered the brisket fries which were good! Portion is definitely enough to split 2 ways or for a table of 3-4.

J C.

Yelp
We went for the pizza and wow!! Paulie Gee's Detroit style pizza is the best!!! We loooved the US Pizza Cup Winner!! It had such a fantastic mixture of things I wouldn't put even think to put together. We had a Sicilian with the toppings of our choice, and that was delicious also!! :) We will be back soon!! :)

Meghan R.

Yelp
What a cool place! I'd been to this location back when it was The Ram, but hadn't been back in a long time. I went with a group of my work colleagues after hours to celebrate a retirement. District Brew Yards was perfect for the occasion. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio with a couple fires going. Good food, good beer. You don't interact much with the staff, but the little interaction that I had was pleasant. There were groups of all ages and sizes, I even saw some folks playing a board game. We had a really enjoyable time and will definitely do another happy hour here again.

Karen N.

Yelp
First time here , but familiar with the concept. We were immediately greeted by a host, she explained the entire process to us, explained the different breweries and beers on tap. She also explained the food ordering process, she was so nice and it was the start to a great experience. You receive a card used to open the tap up . It may be a bit more expensive than a traditional brewery, but the upside is you can try a few ounces , instead of ordering 4 ounces or more. For food there are three food restaurant options. We tried the brisket fries from LIllie's Q, and they were very good! We also had the carne asada tacos from Chicano Taqueria, they were very good. The place has large indoor space and an outdoor patio. They have lots of board games available. We liked the options and the ability to sample ( for a cost) lots of beers.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
District Brew Yards is a fun place for beer lovers. When you arrive you get a card from the front desk which you'll use at the beer stations. There are 5 microbreweries and one alternative beverage station. When you find a beverage you want you put your card in the reader and then pour your own. They charge by the ounce and encourage people to pour a small amount to try their choice and then if you like it pour more. The alternative choices included two wines, a hard cider and a ginger ale. If you get hungry you can use your credit or debit card at kiosks to order from three restaurants. One was LillieQ's and the other two were a fried chicken place and a taqueria. While a lot is self service the staff was helpful and friendly when you needed them. It was too cold for us to sit outside but they had the fire features going on their patios. I look forward to returning in warmer weather to sit outside which likely doubles their seating capacity. Overall, District Brew Yard was a fun night out and we look forward to returning.

Isabelle L.

Yelp
Well I will probably have to give District Yards another chance and I'm going to assume I went in too soon after their opening and they were not a well oiled machine yet. The concept is simple, no wait staff, you order your food from a kiosk, and for beer you get a card when you get in and you will be charged on your way out based on what you poured. What I liked: 1. Good beer choices 2. Big open space, perfect for groups 3. Nice patio The not so good: 1. Line was not purged with a new keg, so I ended up paying for foam. I had to grab a manager who tried to make it right by pouring me a different beer using his manager card. You would hope they would purge the lines before opening the taps to the public. That experience really made me question the whole concept of paying for beer you pour yourself and the price is based on a a flow meter reading. I mean we all have experience watching bar staff struggling with foam pouring a pint... 2. The beer was a bit too warm for my liking 3. The food was not impressive. Felt pre made cafeteria style and barely warm. In the end, probably a good place for groups who love beer to grab a beer or two once they fix a few basic issues. I'd skip the food.

Marissa M.

Yelp
District Brew Yards allows you to pay for what you pour with access to multiple breweries and a couple food options. The space is open and inviting. I appreciated the rack of games in the corner too! Worth checking out if you're in the area!

Jade W.

Yelp
Can't beat the variety of beers and foods. Breweries I haven't seen served elsewhere, not each beer is great but you can try them easily and find one you like. Really nice to have in the suburbs. Nice indoor and patio, good for kids, tons of space. Dog friendly as well, lots of space for our crazy puppy to not annoy others. Tons of board games. Just a nice, totally different space for the suburbs. Recommend the ribs, the spicy peppers, and Brussels sprouts.

Emily G.

Yelp
Very cool concept and fun place to hang out with friends, but execution could be a bit better. Upon arrival, you essentially open a tab and are given a card that can be used to scan beers from five different breweries. I like that you only pay for what you want so I was able to sample many options. I was also impressed with the variety. I'm not a beer lover, so I happily tried a couple alcoholic fruit seltzers and ginger ale. My friends enjoyed trying the beers and they had some fun flavors like cinnamon role, cherry, and watermelon. Prices are a bit on the higher side but you also don't need to pay a tip. For the food, they have 3 different restaurant options that you can order from on an iPad. I wish the beer card would also work for the food, but it does not. The options are still fairly limited and on the overpriced side. They really could step up the food game. The meats were overly salty and my Mac and cheese noodles were overcooked. The fried pickles were huge and yummy. I wouldn't come back for the food portion alone. They had a table full of board games that my friends and I enjoyed playing while sipping on our drinks. Fun addition to the northern suburbs, and has the potential to be improved over time.

Yelp
This place is a skip for sure. The beer selection is really not on par especially considering the local brewery scene. The choices were bad. The food is just as bad as the beer. They add a 15% hospitality surcharge but the entire place is self-service. Do not go here-there are many places nearby with better beer and MUCH better food.

Yelp
We went after work with a group for drinks, so I can't comment about the food. Although they have Lillies Q so im sure its great. First off, it's a great space and an amazing concept. They have walls lined with spigots of different local brews because of the sheer volume they have some very unique offerings. It's all by the ounce so you can try a lot of different beers. The space is like a large open beer hall and the food is counter service. My biggest issue is it's a bit of a drive from our house and I want one closer. They have a large outdoor space that I'm sure will be hopping in the summer, not so much in December when we were there. It's a great place to hang out and discover new favorites. They had a great pistachio and an awesome Cinnamon Stout that I loved. Its a place that I cant wait to go back to soon

Yelp
I love the concept of self-serve drinks. Upon arrival you essentially open a tab using your credit card and are given a brew card to use at the self-serve beer stations. They had 5 different breweries showcasing their variety of drinks. You can choose your glass size and go around sample as few or as many different drinks as you'd like. I love having the option to taste a few before pouring a full glass of my favs! I also enjoyed being able to order a snack and receive a text when it was ready for pick up at the dining window. While the food may be slightly overpriced, the convenience is worth it. The French fries were crispy and piping hot.

Yelp
Took us a while to try this out glad we waited for the opening rush to die down ! Great transformation inside as we dined at its previous place! We love the concept when you check in you get a card linked to your CC , swipe to drink and when you are done it charges you ! The food was easy to order from a kiosk and delivered to our table ! We loved it all very easy dining concept even the outdoor fire pit and chill area looked so inviting to just grab a beer after work or meet a friend for a quick bite! We will definitely be back I didn't photograph my food I was so hungry! Next time I will get photos and update

Yelp
The concept of pay by the ounce craft beer is interesting and I like that you can sample lots of different kinds without committing to a pint of something you may or may not like. Most of the beers range in price from 60 cents an ounce up to $1.20-ish (and that's probably a really potent imperial stout or something). However, the food is really lacking. You have 3 different food vendors but they all share one large kitchen, so it feels like just one. Lillie's Q is barbecue, Chicano Taqueria is mexican food, and Salt & Scratch is fried chicken. The food options are small portions and quite pricey. What I really disliked were the lack of non-alcoholic options. If you're sampling lots of different beers, eventually you might want to slow down but still be sipping something. Your options are a free communal water spigot and cans of Coke and Diet Coke for $2.50 a can. You're definitely not going to be happy if you come here and you're not a drinker. Also, DBY is a completely cashless business. Beer is paid with your card that acts like a running tab and you close out upon leaving. Food can purchased with your credit card of choice. Cool concept, fun with a group of friends, but there are elements of this place that I just didn't like.

Yelp
My parents and I came out a few weekends ago to try it on a busy Saturday night. We did our research on the location, hoped we knew what to expect and was unfortunately underwhelmed. With our table saved and 2 charge cards ready (the only way you can try drinks is to load their own charge cards with a credit or debit account to put into the card reader to allow the draft system to work), my parents and I ventured around, looking for drinks to try. My parents were disappointed that most of the beers they wanted to try weren't there between what was on their website and what was actually there (not even in the take out coolers) but eventually found some they liked. Unfortunately, if you're not a beer drinker, there's not much else to drink. The 2 seltzers available were not to my favor, nor did I want the 2 wines available (just red and white), so the only other options I had were water or overpriced Coca-Cola cans (Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite), which can only be ordered at the food kiosk (no one told us this and it's not mentioned on the website). The 1 water spout near the food window was clearly meant for glass containers as the plastic cups stored near the spout (as opposed to glasses for all the beer) cracked when pressed up against the trigger to activate the water flow (I just used my hand on the trigger and aimed the plastic cup with the other). The 1 line for 2 food-ordering kiosks gets long quickly but was needlessly complicated and required a separate debit or credit card than the drink charge cards. One thing I don't get about the ordering system, while helpful about giving texts when your food is available to pick up at their window, it should be available to place orders from your phone as well for in hall ordering, if just for convenience. The Lillie Q's Tri-Tip sandwich was just as good as I remember from getting it at the Blackhawks game or at their actual restaurant in the city. We shared the Salt & Scratch fried chicken and smoked wings and thought they were average, as well as the mac & cheese. My mother had the Pastor and Chorizo tacos from Chicano Taqueria but thought they were bland. This would've been the highlight of the evening if it wasn't for the added $10 "service fee" that was separate from taxes that raised the price closer to $90 for the food alone... What really annoyed us more than anything, was our attempt to get "to go containers" from the 2 staff at the food window when we had leftovers. When my father first walked up to them and asked, he was met with absolute cluelessness on their part, at first telling him "we don't do that." Even after my father reminded them that you can order the food for take out on the website, they just handed him a little paper bag and nothing else as our "to-go container." It was only when my father then went up to the front desk and asked for a manager that someone came to our table with actual clamshell, disposable containers to put our food in. The manager seemed just as confused as we were by the interaction with the staff... This place has a lot going for it. It's an interesting model, it's very clean and we'll definitely get some of the food to go in the future but I doubt we'll step foot inside again in the future. Their selection of drinks is not as varied as you'd hope, you're kind of out of luck if you don't like beer, and it's very expensive for not being a full service restaurant. And while it's made for people to stay for a long time, and there is overhead music and board games to play, there's not a single television to watch any sports, which I would think would be a major factor to keep even those unenthusiastic with the brew hall's model to want to stay. Interesting but not for me, would've been 3 stars if the food was more reasonably priced and that last staff interaction with the "to-go containers" didn't go like it did...

Yelp
Was brewery hopping with the hubby. Didn't know what to expect! The gentleman at the door gave us the rundown given that it was their grand opening. Basically, it's a serve yourself tap place (a la Tapville) with access to 4 breweries and a food kitchen. Go to the register and they give you a card to link to your credit card and you can pour various brews (and a couple wines!), charged by the ounce. Vibe reminds me of a similar area in Fulton Market, but in the suburbs. There is also an outdoor area deck albeit not much seating, but with some long "fire" pit areas. Trendy and on point. Can see myself hanging out here sometime in the future! Didn't capture many pretty pictures, but should give you an idea of what to expect!

Yelp
We love this place. Always an available seat and the hosts/front desk guys are so nice. The food is AWESOME - especially the smash burger. Great place to bring your kids so everyone can enjoy a night out. Good amount of beer selections and a cider or two as well. I would love if they added one or two wine taps!

Krista D.

Yelp
What an awesome place! Get a card and buy beer by the oz and choose what you want to try and how much to try. Hungry? Line up and order some delicious wings, burgers, or brisket fries! There is also board games and plenty of seating. Kids are welcome in certain areas as well.

Rae S.

Yelp
Really fun place to go with adults. It's order at a kiosk and they make your food. There are A LOT of beer options on one half of the restaurant and food on the other. Board games are a great addition! The burger was good, fries solid, and grouper sandwich was on par. We also ordered chicken fingers for our kids and they are SPICY for kid taste. So, I can't say there really is much here for kids to eat. Just a disclaimer! We'll be back - adults only next time!

Yelp
Disregard Claire O's review. That lady clearly doesn't get out much. Her ideal outing event is a trip to Walmart followed by a trip to Taco Bell for a half dozen bean burritos. Anyway, this place is unreal! BBQ 8/10. Beers are sick and vibes are... well just look at the pictures!

Yelp
Excellent unfiltered Pilsner. Noisy as hell. Owners did terrible job on design/sound absorption- bring earplugs and decible meter.

Yelp
First. Expensive !!! 2nd. Food. Burger looked sad. Like someone stepped on bun before they used it. Son said it was not ok, not great. Brisket sandwich. If you like salt you will like this. BBQ is supposed to have some, but not more salt than beef. Sadly I threw Tia out. Wings. We're actually good. Like 3 bucks a wing. FYI. Fries. Good. Canned pop. Good. For the food above. 64 dollars with taxes No real service it's order at screen and pick up. Ambiance was nice. I can see coming here for beer. I didn't sample, it looks cool. I can NOT recommend this place for the food I tried. I won't eat there again

Yelp
Some tasty beers, but their taps measure ounces and a small splash for a taste registered two ounces. Seems like a scam. 4 - 8oz pours (with a couple of said splashes) was $45!

Alisa P.

Yelp
Self service brewery. You pay by the oz. We went around 6 pm on a Friday and it filled up very quickly. A spot for under 21. Food hall style so you can order from any of the 3-4 commissioned restaurants at once. Beautiful space and has games to play. Can reserve tables but must call ahead.

Daniel G.

Yelp
Interesting brew pub concept! Everything can be ordered/poured through touch screens! When you arrive, you get a card that is linked with your credit/debit card. There are 2 touchscreen kiosks where you order food. There are some decent options. However they are a little pricey. We went with the blackened grouper and pulled pork sandwich and a side of fries. Total was about $35 for that. Then we looked at the beer options which are on the other side. There is a decent selection to choose from. Although I'm wondering how often they change. I got small glasses and was able to sample about 5-10 with mini pours and found 2 I really liked. I got half glasses of both of those. It's charged based on volume. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. Definitely fun to come here and try the drinks though.

Yelp
My husband and I visited with our 1 year old son. The food is typical bar fare but was hot, fresh, and tasted good! The beers were good, and we hope they'll rotate the selection to keep things fresh. I appreciated the non-beer options. If you're visiting with a kid, be aware that there are NO high chairs (I know it's a brewery but there were so many families there, it seems like management should step it up so families keep coming to their business!)

Yelp
I want to start that the food and beer are great. The problem though is there are too many children running around. not just the patio but also the self pouring area. kids are being kids, but the problem is the parents that take their kids to a bar are a little too relaxed. it is kinda unbelievable kids are allowed to run around the bar area, while people fill their glasses. i cannot justify coming back until District Brew Yards actually starts enforcing the 21 and up section.

Yelp
Wow, what a great concept for customers. 5 different brewers sharing kettles, each has 8 taps in a cluster. U provide CC at arrival, and they give u linked ID car to go to any of 28 taps, buy beer per Oz. Taste many so cool, common food court menue and kitchen with great choices from brisket, blackened grouper, and awesome chicken Buffalo dip. Open 3 weeks & still waiting on patio furniture with exterior fireplace. Have 4 large fridge beer for takeout after u find your favorites.

Yelp
Went with a few friends for beer and food. Interesting concept, very mixed review. We had a few appetizers, all were very good. Pimiento cheese was fantastic! Atmosphere was like a warehouse. Music was moderate at first but pretty loud by the time we left. The beer is self serve, you have a card linked to your credit card to operate the taps. Lots of options from various breweries. The reason for the mixed review was the price. Two of us were on one card, between the two of us we had about 9, 8-10 ounce beers (the tap tells you how many ounces you pour). Think about that, not a 12 ounce beer, not a 16 ounce beer; 9 small beers and our bill for just beers was $90! Not a place I'd go to regularly but it's a fun option for a group.
