District Taco Joins the East Market Project in Center City - Eater Philly

"District Taco is a Washington, D.C.-based Mexican eatery that started out as a food truck and now has several brick-and-mortar locations, including one that just opened in King of Prussia. The fast-casual restaurant serves Yucatan-style fare and this will be its first Philly location." - Rachel Vigoda

This place is absolutely amazing! The food is incredible, and the prices are super reasonable for the amount of food you get. There are so many delicious flavors in each bite. I even took my mom and sister who came to visit, and they loved it too! The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal. The chicken was cooked perfectly, too! I AM A FAN.

I Went in for the first time today as I’am away on business and ran into this gem of a place, food was great and very fast compared to most restaurants, as it was my first time i walked in to check them out and place my order I had such a pleasant experience with Taniel (which is why im leaving a review i normally dont) he explained what every item was and Taniel had great energy he explained how i could build my own taco which was my favorite part they had various options and even VEGAN options which you rarely see and fishhh (what a win). The place was super clean as well will definitely be back when im in town again.

Jan-2025 Tried district taco today during my visit to Kop. This is located in the main street closer to Wegmans. Parking is going to ve challenging during busy times, so be prepared to walk for some distance. The restaurant/outlet has outdoor and indoor seating and is big. As I entered, I was greeted by the staff, and I used kiosk to order my veggie bowl. The prices are okay, and the portions are definitely good. The food preparation area looks like similar to Chipotle style. The assembly line looks cool. The interior is definitely well maintained and looks trendy. Regarding the food, it tastes good. Although some ingredients tasted fresh and some don't. The beans tasted good. The salsa/sauce definitely tasted good. The bowl is well packed and better than Chipotle. The staff also have some additional salsa on the side. Overall, it's definitely worth it. I hope they keep the ingredients fresh. Will try one more time. Sep-2023 I wanted to try this place for some time and today went with my colleagues. The place is well maintained and might give you a vibe of Chipotle but much more upgrade feel. The menu options are available on the wall with a lot of kiosks to order and are very easy to use. Options and extra pricing options are clearly marked. I selected a chicken burrito bowl with Jefe style and added potatoes to it. I also wanted to try fish tacos, and the good thing is that at kiosk, I was able to order just one fish taco along with the bowl. After ordering, the crew started working on the order, and the service was super fast and got the order in 5 minutes' time. The bowl was so tasty and fresh, definitely much better than Chipotle. The fish tacos were amazing. I will definitely order them again. The sauces they gave out were fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience and will visit again!!!

Come here all the time. Food is consistently great. Staff always helpful. Place is always clean with places to sit. Their carnitas tacos and mild salsa are delicious.

Google
A decent place for a quick bite for Mexican food. We have been to this place couple times and its been a good experience. We have ordered Tacos ( build your own) & Quesadilla ( build your own). For Tacos , it was two chicken and one fish, the flavors were well balanced with all the needed ingredients which we have asked for. It was filled with lettuce , great grilled corn, pico , cheese , other veggies which was the jeffe way. The chicken was well cooked with nice citrusy, cilantro, simple salt and pepper flavor yet so delicious. Had a fear that fish might smell or had that fishy taste, surprisingly the fish was well done and the flavors were great. We also got chicken quesadilla the jeffe way which was delicious except felt a little too cheesy for me. The highlight was their mild and hot sauces , perfectly made and it was bursting with flavors. The one thing which I did not like about this place is that even if you go for dine in , they serve us like a to go place. So everything is all wrapped up for a quick bite , even though we wanted to have a dine in experience. Wrapping the tacos like a quick grab spoiled the taco experience for me. The taco was sticking to the paper , as it was just made and wrapped up right away. It would have been nice to have a separation between dine in and to go experience. For me having Tacos is a dine in experience which cannot be replicated totally in to go experience.

I enjoyed the tacos very much! I got a chorizo, grilled chicken, and pulled pork. The pork was my favorite, the chicken was my least favorite.

Yelp
Delicious food! This is like a step up from a chipotle for roughly the same exact price!! The wait after we ordered took quite a while but no complaints, my bowl originally looked small but I could barely finish it! They play music and the environment is very chill and hip! The ingredients all tasted so fresh and clean! Would definitely return here!

Yelp
My family and I traveled to the King of Prussia area where we stopped at District Tacos. The restaurant had a contemporary decor, and menus posted on walls were easy to read. While we had to use a kiosk to place our orders, the staff checked in with us to answer questions. Our order included nachos with chicken, fish tacos and quesadillas. All was excellent, good portions and prices. We'll be back but wish there was a District Taco in DE.

Yelp
I was starving and had a taste for tacos, so I stopped in District taco. The place was pretty empty. It was clean. I walked up to the kiosk machine to place my order. I ordered three tacos, two chicken one steak the options in the kiosk was a little confusing. I ordered sour cream on the side, with a mild sauce. I didn't want to sit inside the restaurant because the parking was only for 15 minutes outside of them restaurant. So I sat in my car and ate my food. The food was kind of tasteless. What I did taste was the corn tortilla that tasted as if it was burnt. It wasn't burnt, but the grill marks on it made it taste as if it was which kind of overpowered the whole taco. Whereas I couldn't get a flavor profile. It wasn't bad everything was fresh, I did eat them all. I may have to come back to try other options. The guy behind the counter was pretty nice and helpful. I'll give it another try!

Yelp
Finally tried district taco for the first time. Previously if I want this type of food, I always go to Chipotle. Why pay a dollar or two more? Tonight after I tried District Taco, I can see why it has business. Although it's one or two dollars more expensive than Chipotle and the two share almost identical ingredient, food of District Taco tastes different from Chipotle's. I think their proteins are seasoned differently. The food of district taco has lighter colors. One merit of District Taco: they have more comfortable tables and seats. I always hate going to Chipotle during colder weather--their metal/prison style tables and seats just feel so cold. Anyway, if you like Chipotle, you should also give District Taco a try.

Yelp
Best amazing tacos for the right price. People are ordering the bowls and posting negative reviews
google avatar

Charlene F.

Yelp
Delicious but not worth $17.00. Way too much sour cream and not enough lettuce. Not recommending this spot.

Clara B.

Yelp
The food and service here is amazing. Very delicious and a great place to grab lunch. And the server Alexander was very attentive and friendly. He deserves a raise!
google avatar

Veronica K.

Yelp
They're fine, and if you want tacos or any variety of Mexican styled eats there's something waiting here for you. I wouldn't say they're spectacular but they're okay. My quesadilla was a little bland. The chicken was cooked and seasoned well but that was about it. Make sure you ask for extra hot sauce. I'd heard good things about this chain so I was a little disappointed, but they're alright for fast casual.

Reza A.

Yelp
Decent Mexican food, better than Chipotle but still pricey. It's worth a try in the area. But there are better local spots.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
Overall meh. I think your experience really depends on the protein you get because the carne asada was pretty flavorful but everything else we tried was very bland. My barbacoa bowl was very bland. It looks a lot of the hot & mild salsa to impart any flavor into the meal. I will say that the pico de gallo was fresh and really carried the meal. The fish tacos were also super bland and we relied heavily on the salsas for any flavor. The carne asada/chicken nachos were pretty good! Again, mainly because the carne asada was actually flavorful. The chips were pretty thick too, so it was able to hold up all the toppings. In general okay. Not amazing, wouldnt really recommend but you could also do worse
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
I came here because I was in the area and I wanted some cheap and easy protein. Figured despite the reviews I'd give it a try. How bad could it really be? Then I figured out that somehow, this place managed to make barbacoa without actual flavor. I mean I'm actually impressed that they have the gall to put that out there. It's not terrible. But "Meh, I've had better" described this meal perfectly.
google avatar

Boo H.

Yelp
I'm not picky. But the gray "steak" which had the consistency of tofu was absolutely repulsive. Won't be back
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
Open for takeout/delivery etc. No dining in but they have a few tables right outside. For around $10 you get three tacos double wrapped (authentic!) with your choice of tortilla and fix ins. You don't order down the line like at Chipotle; it's all at once at the register. Also had Boylans fountain soda which is cool but the salsa bar is closed for now. The best thing about this spot is that you get a lot of food for what you pay- two tortilla tacos are filling. The ingredients were okay- a lot of shredded lettuce and because everything is to go, the tacos were wrapped up for it and the sour cream made everything a soggy mess. Maybe I should have gotten a bowl? Pork was decent and grilled veggies okay. The corn tortilla did not taste very good either :(. Decent chips but the guac had a little too much lemon. Unfortunately, I am passing on this place going forward. Lots of food for what you pay for but not worth the money sadly.

Yelp
I was starving the other night & heard from the locals that this place was a "pretty good" Mexican restaurant.... So I gave them a shot BUT let me say, I see why the locals mention this place as just "pretty good". I got one of their bowls w/steak as my protein... and was not very impressed, certainly can say Chipotle's bowls beat theirs. Specifically my problems with the bowl I had was: 1. Too bland, VERY dry steak (no flavoring on it all) confused why though since they prepare the food right there as you wait. No matter how much extra sauce I put in my bowl, it didn't add to the flavor. 2. The protein (my steak) was not hot, it was still cold as if sitting in a refrigerator and just thrown in the bowl (not sure if this is how the restaurant always does it) BUT the bowls I've had in the past @ Mexican restaurants ALWAYS give you your protein hot off the stove or at least kept warm in a heated container 3. Filled up my bowl halfway. Got back to my hotel room & realized the bowl wasn't even filled up completely... not sure if this was just cause it was later at night so the employees were tired or what.... It was pretty busy when I was there too so maybe they were just quickly trying to get through everyone While I have these complaints about my food, I will say the inside of the restaurant is kept very clean and has a very cool aesthetic to it. Ordering is easy, contactless (they use an electronic ordering system), and they prepared my food fast, so I was out of there within 10 minutes!

Yelp
This fry bowl really hit the spot after a long day. The meat was cooked to perfection and complimented the fluffy fries very well with the toppings that suited my taste buds. Service was fairly quick and I really like this fry bowl that I had ordered because it was filling and a nice guilty pleasure.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
It was good but it wasn't great. I like being able to order off the computer vs talking to someone. The pricing was decent and flavor was decent. I got a steak bowl. I wouldn't go with your hopes high. It's a place where you go because you want something fast and hungry.
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
The food was pretty good for being a taco spot. We had it delivered through door dash. We got chicken and beef tacos, chips with guacamole. The guacamole wasn't the best and needed some more seasoning but, it was ok.

Jason T.

Yelp
Don't bother. It seems that the toppings are freshly prepped, but the meats are not cooked well. Had carne asada and pork and neither were appetizing. Carne asada was grizzled and gray as if it baked not grilled. Pork was soggy and tasteless. Employees don't seem to be too skilled or versed in presentation. Sloppy presentation. And that's hard to do with Mexican food. Find the nearest chipotle instead and save $10. I typically don't go to 3* rated places....and I regret trying this one as well.

Yelp
Yesssssss District Taco I am a fan! This place has such variety! I love that you could order breakfast tacos at any point during the day. My fiance and I ordered a variety of tacos ranging from chorizo to chicken to fish etc. We also opted for some chips and queso. We both really enjoyed these tacos and our time at District Taco. The atmosphere inside was very upbeat and friendly and I love that they had plugs for charging your device's right at your table. We would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried here again on Friday night, and had a much more positive experience overall. Kids' drinks were offered with their meals this time (yay!). Everyone's food was hot and quick, and the place was pretty clean. Surprisingly not super busy around 7pm. During this visit I got the fish tacos, which were very filling! And I preferred the hot salsa this time. Above-average service, and decent value for the portions you get. Looks like the menu was updated/clarified, too. Still not my favorite but pretty good. I'll probably go back!
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
I just paid 13 dollars for a burrito with no chicken. Funny, I ordered chicken, paid for the chicken. Where's my chicken?? Ok you fooled me, I won't be back. Congratulations.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great Burrito Bowls and Good Tacos! I've never had a bad meal here yet. The staff is always friendly and attentive. When I'm in the mood for a burrito I generally choose DT over Chipotle. They have a lot more options to put on your meal and they even have a fixin's bar in the back with more sauces and toppings
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Big portions for the Nacho Borrachos. Added some al pastor which was sliced instead of diced. Never had it like that before. Wasn't really a fan. I would get the nachos again but skip the protein or try a different one. There is a sauce bar in the back where the fountain drink machine is.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
I've seen two District Tacos in my travels, one in Philadelphia and this one. I imagine there may be a few more out there. Standard tacos, quesadillas, and rice bowls that are customizable. The fixings bar is the highlight of our dining experience. Augment your entree with any of their 5 or 6 salsas (of varying spice levels), cilantro, lime, onions, etc. Top to your hearts content! I ordered the three-taco entree and I liked that I could choose three different meets. They did over do the lettuce, though. There are also self serve coloring pages for kids. And they are encouraged to tape them to the wall.
google avatar

Iman T.

Yelp
Went to lunch here today, quick service, but quality of food was not great. Not a place I would recommend or go to again.
google avatar

Schuyler L.

Yelp
Tried District Taco twice, I was disappointed the first time, twice as disappointed the second time. Never again. Poor value for the money. They rely too heavily on their salsa bar. Check out my pictures, $10 in tacos and all I got was meat in fajita shells. I was never offered toppings. How would I know taco toppings are extra and I have to ask for them? Extremely disappointing. If you're thinking Mexican try Plaza Azteca for sit down (always table available plus free chips and salsa, very consistent) OR El Limon in Conshohocken. At El Limon they don't charge you extra for toppings and they sure wouldn't make meat dough tacos.
google avatar

John U.

Yelp
How could we not like this place after looking around at the outrageously priced restaurants nearby. On top of that the line was small and no one was crowding us and they even gave us their mistake. The cook accidentally put chipotle on the tacos and asked if we wanted anyways. I certainly accepted as we are scraping by because of the pandemic and those days of fancy dinners are over. This place reminds me of Rubios in San Diego . Love the milk carton lights. Decent fish tacos with fresh cilantro . Great service!
google avatar

Colin L.

Yelp
I got 3 tacos. All tasted bad. I would rather die than eat the steak again. Completely terrible. My friend got a bowl, and he said it was better chip dip than a bowl. He was given beans, and he didn't ask for beans. I hope district taco leaves the district. -10/10 for me.
google avatar

Yelp
My daughters loves her some tacos so we were walking around the Town Center and she wanted to grab some dinner. If you go on their website you can plug in what you want to order and it gives you the nutrition information. Super helpful. They are indoor and outdoor seating, along with a salsa/toppings bar. I ordered three tacos - 2 pollo asado and 1 carnitas. You choose the toppings you want, which there are so many to choose from. You can also select one of their versions of toppings, one is called breakfast where you can add eggs and potatoes. My daughter ordered two carne asada. We also split a small chips and guacamole. We sat outside since it was a nice day. Overall the food is decent. Not the best taco I've ever had, but better than Moe's. Had better flavor. Service was quick and the two of us for around $25, which included two soft drinks as well.

Samantha S.

Yelp
it's just not good. limited toppings. The only seasoning you can taste is salt. chipotle is cheaper and tastes better and that's saying a lot because I think chipotle is gross to. I guess I just don't like chain Mexican food. also no queso? who makes an American taco chain and doesn't offer queso. save your money and time.

Marsha L.

Yelp
Favorite Mexican spot in the area! Tacos are so delicious and come with variety of toppings to chose from
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
It took me a few visits to find my groove here. Their torts are a bit more bready than I'm used to and my first several tacos seemed dry no matter what I added. Their baseline tortilla is flour and the corn alternative is not to my liking. However, I have been enjoying the basic breakfast tacos lately. Flour tort, eggs, potatoes, cheese, pico, cilantro, salsa. The potatoes are small and everything is well proportioned. The place and staff are bright. Bottled Mexican sodas (Coke and Jarritos) are offered (plus fountain soda). It can take a little while to order, but the food comes very quickly after that. Their tacos are individually wrapped and transportable. Lots of seating. The location is great, so I'll keep coming here until I settle on some other tacos and decide if a 4 star rating holds up. I can always go for a quick taco or two.

Yelp
Gave this place a try for dinner after a KOP mall adventure. Competition is getting steep in this area since there are so many food choices in the new market square next to wegmans. Tacos are always easy to crave so since this place was finally open I was excited to try it. I ordered the 3 taco meal with a small chips and guacamole. The guacamole was very good and they give you plenty of chips with the small. Good amount for two people to share if you have other food. The tacos I ordered were: -pollo asado -al pastor -chorizo 2 I got with the American way and 1 with the Mexican way. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and portion of each taco. The presentation was a little lacking. Even though we dined in they still wrap the tacos which squishes them a little too much. The salsa bar was okay as far as taste but also underwhelming presentation wise. They only give you the option of very small to go containers for the salsa so I had to get about 5 for one type of salsa. Overall this place was okay but not my first choice among the competition in the area.
google avatar

Zac H.

Yelp
Would give 4 stars but I tried the itza on my tacos and it alone puts them up to 5 for me. It was really flavorful and I will definitely get it again. The queso was a little lacking for me but still quite good, and the chips were nice and crispy. I will say if you don't have a lot of time order ahead or try somewhere else. When we walked in we were the only ones there but they had so many online orders our food was was made behind 5 or 6 other orders and it took a while. If you are in a hurry you won't be able to properly judge how quickly you can get in and out. That being said the employees were moving very fast and were doing an awesome job of pushing the food out.
google avatar

Marianna C.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately I just wasn't that impressed. I came for lunch and ordered a burrito bowl, complete with rice, beans, chorizo, pico and grilled veggies. They have a salsa bar in the back where you can get cups of salsa to add to your meal so i sampled a few of those and mixed my favorites into my bowl. Overall, everything was just OK. The portions are huge, and I was very full and couldn't even finish. But honestly it just wasn't spectacular. It totally Looks better than it tastes. You can tell they are trying to be like chipotle or moes but in my opinion they just aren't quite there. At least not yet. The hype just wasn't there for me, and I left pretty disappointed and honestly not feeling the greatest. Not saying I'll never be back but don't think I'll be there anytime soon
google avatar

Danyell E.

Yelp
I'm sad to say that the district tacos in other areas such as DC/Northern VA are so much better. I'm very disappointed. My first review came from grand opening so I gave them the benefit of the doubt but even a few visits after it just doesn't seem like others that I have been to. I'm not sure what's going on at this location but I wish they would get it together so it's like the other locations. I will say the atmosphere is nice and the salsa/drink area is decent. I do see them trying to keep things clean but the food and pace stink.
google avatar

Judy Z.

Yelp
Good service, ok food. I ordered takeout, but had to return and decided to stay and eat in because they forgot to include the quesadilla in my order. No problems though! When I went back to talk to a server, she immediately got my order in and gave me some complimentary water bottles to apologize. The portions are quite large and definitely filling. I eat an average amount and I could only finish 2/3 of my quesadilla. The chicken quesadilla itself was, in my opinion, mediocre in taste. The flavor wasn't outstanding, but it did the job of curbing my hunger. I did appreciate that there weren't any additional veggies in the quesadilla, just chicken and cheese. The lettuce, tomato, and sour cream on the side did help me in customizing to my own preferences. For the price, the quantity was worth it. Since they are called District Taco, I may come back to give their tacos a shot.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
By far the blandest tacos I have ever tasted. 2 stars because the food was fresh and the guacamole was good. If you are in the mood for Mexican food, there are several better options nearby.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Highly recommend coming here instead of Chipotle because you don't feel weighed down after consuming the Mexican food. I ordered a Burrito Bowl with barbacoa with a side of corn tortillas. The barbacoa was not my favorite but my friend got the chorizo, which I tasted, and it was so good so next time I'll get that. You get a huge portion of food which you can save for later and the staff is super friendly and knowledgable about the menu and ingredients. I'll definitely be coming back.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Food was tasty. It took really long for our food to come even though we beat the lunch rush. I had to ask for my drink and then ask for my chips and Queso, and then ask again for my chips because she brought chips for the friend who was with me. So our server made 5 separate trips to our table. It didn't seem very efficient. I do like all of the salsa choices. The chips and queso were delicious and you should order it with chorizo. Also they serve Boylan Bottling soda and it is very good.
google avatar

Ciara M.

Yelp
Literally the best Mexican food I've ever had! The shrimp tacos are amazing and their rice is seriously delicious and my daughter even loves the cheese quesadilla and rice and she is so picky! We need one in Pittsburgh! Will definitely be back when we come to Philadelphia for my daughters doctors!!
google avatar

Esteban A.

Yelp
Food was plenty but lacked flavor. Price is reasonable. Maybe they need to work on their preparation and recipe.
google avatar

Sneha G.

Yelp
Ordered a bowl to go- they took my order at the counter, and was ready for me to go in minutes. Missed customizing the bowl per my preference- resulted in a bowl without any salsa - basically it was only rice and beans :/ They had cleared the salsa bar even though it was only 9:00pm. Also bought side of chips and guacamole- Guacamole was not that great either. Sticking to chipotle next time.

Hatem E.

Yelp
This was the worst tasting food I ever had in my life. The "hard" shell taco was so soggy it broke apart. The meat had a terrible taste. My wife asked for a refund, but the manager offered a soft shell taco instead. I threw mines out. Such a bad experience. Not to mention the size of the taco which was 1/2 a normal taco, and way overpriced. Stay away.
google avatar

G K.

Yelp
We had an excellent experience, good service, tried multiple options such as burrito bowls, quesadillas and tacos, all with chicken and veggies. The chicken and veggies were very tasty, flavorful. Very reasonably priced, will visit again for the food.
google avatar

Sweta G.

Yelp
Since the brand is only in a few locations I thought it would be cool to check it out when I was in the area in Pennsylvania. They have the basic essentials including burritos tacos and chips and salsa! The way the burritos are presented a pretty cool they can come in three different styles that have different condiments. You can always also just build your own burrito or taco. For the shrimp and fish tacos, they're only available on specific days so check the days before you go in if you want one of those. The food overall was good but nothing amazing that I would travel to Pennsylvania to have again. This location is spacey with seating around the front and the side, and a condiment bar with different levels of spicy salsa and jalapeños.

Yelp
Went yesterday for lunch. They had just opened. I ordered 3 tacos and the woman who toke my order failed to put the beans, grilled onions and lettuce on my tacos. It gets worse, I ordered a fountain drink, they only had 3 out of 6 sodas available. There were 'out of order' stickers on HALF of the soda options. I opted for the Seltzer, only to find out there was NO SELTZER?!?! The employee who saw this said 'oh well'. I explained that I had paid for a drink and none of them were available. He shrugged his shoulders. The food was bland and boring. The salsas were nice. I paid nearly $15 for lunch with no soda and half my customization to my tacos missing. Too many other good options. I won't be back.

Yelp
Frustrating... stood in line (inside) for almost 10 minutes only to get to the register and the guy says - no dogs allowed. I tried to order online at the tables- but what I wanted is not online. The only wanted the large chicken queso with chips. The time he took to tell me that there were no dogs allowed and I explained what I wanted was not available online. . He said tie up the dog outside and that they didn't have curbside pick up. All the time he took to explain that, he could've quickly taken my order and said next time no dogs. I said you saw me in line. He said I didn't want to yell it. So you wait until I get to the register and you refuse to take my order. That's okay. I wish people had better customer service skills.
