A few hits, lots of misses. At over $200/person with no alcohol, that's not a great start.
Made a reservation, indicated it was our anniversary, the hostess sounded like they would do something nice, but nobody ever mentioned it throughout the entire meal.
Walk upstairs to get seated -- gorgeous views of the bay (facing east so no sunset though), very nice interior, and a lovely outdoor seating area. However, a small and somewhat garishly lit bar. The restaurant was surprisingly almost completely empty for our entire time there.
The heaters weren't on on the outside deck, and we weren't offered the option of sitting out there, but were brought to a very nice table with a view of the water.
The music over the sound system was very nice, sort of chill dance music, but then stopped mid-song and restarted, then stopped and restarted, over and over again, for most of the time we were there. Sometimes minutes-long pauses, sometimes a different song in a different style would start and stop. It was VERY distracting.
Our waiter was training a new server, which was also sort of distracting, especially since we could hear all the training notes, especially during the long silences in the music.
There was a disconnect between the fixed price menu on the website that brought us there in the first place; it wasn't the same items or prices and other things varied (like your supposed to get free bread with the third course). So that was a bit confusing, and when I asked about the free bread, I was told there was "never free bread" and that it's $14 for bread. I eventually showed him the online menu and he apologized and offered the bread for free.
The oysters were tasty, but most of them had bits of shell in them.
The salmon tartare was tasty, but the stracciatella (a burrata cheese salad in this case and not the soup) needed something crunchy (toast points or similar) to put the soupy cheese on. I'd skip it, and the nectarine/peach salad with compote was not that enjoyable.
We were drinking non-alcoholic cocktails, which were very good, but a random alcoholic drink was delivered to our table by one waiter before our head waiter whisked it away a few minutes later.
Items were dropped a few times by the staff while we were eating, other tables got the wrong items. However, our friendly busboy was great at refilling our water.
The timing of the meal was off, especially surprising considering how empty it was. There was a long long wait for our salads, and the famous bread was eventually served, but for some reason was pretty cold by the time it came out.
The sea bass in a foam was unbelievably good; in contrast, the recommended Wagyu Strip Loin was boring and surprisingly tough.
We weren't offered coffee before our desserts arrived, and we were pretty stuffed by the time we finished the desserts. They were pretty good -- so when they brought an extra plate of little mini desserts for free it was appreciated but was just a bit strange to get more sugary things after gorging on all those sugary things.
They were just beginning to open up for lunch, so that might be an interesting option to try in the future.
