OK initially I wanted to go with 3 stars, but dammit, I'll tell you why 4.
You drive up and its clearly a corner stone dive bar of the area. Sundays are closed from what I've seen. Its a mid-weekend bar that dances around a country / rock theme.
Walking in, as long as it isn't a big band playing, it should be free. (Friday, Saturdays SEEM to have been $5 cover). Bouncers have always been legitimate. Nice guys who look like they're ready to deal with crap, but really just want an easy night if its possible. Always checking ID's like they should. That's a green flag from the start.
Ya walk in with a big stage to your left and behind that has an impressive, well kept pool table onset of 3 tables. To your right is a small few steps up to a better view of the stage where there is table service. I've never dined with table service so I cannot give you a review on that, but I have not heard anything bad.
The front / main bar is where the magic happens. Before you even sit down, youre very welcomed by some of the most humble staff in a 10 mile radius, and I mean that ( I frequent many of the restaurants and bars in the area ). Like, these people are down to earth and act as if you're sitting in their living room. Bo ( maybe its spelled Beau?) has been extremely accommodating regardless of situation. Super friendly guy.
They got a Dixie special for $2. Look idk what's in it, but its affordable and gets the job done, but otherwise they have a very decent selection and the bartenders arent exactly shy with the pours.
The food... Well this is where I can't just throw on a 5th star. Its a divey bar and I get that, but I ordered the Buffalo chicken dip one day and it was like 80% buffalo sauce and %20 chicken. I couldn't finish it. The wings are not tasty at all. The area has an Apple Bees, Tilted Kilt, Hooters, Taco Mac, and even random Wing shops... I'm just saying... They gotta start measuring up. The wings seem under cooked, not well seasoned and red / bloody at the core most of the time. So I, personally, go to another establishment just to have wings THEN go to Dixie Tavern. Food matters guys... It really does, even after 6 pints.
They have great bands, great atmosphere, very safe and hey! I've left my car over night multiple times and it hadn't been towed!
I initially feel they need a 3.5 star, but the people behind the bar and the people at the door have been so frikken cool, that they make the visit Worth a shot or two... Pun intended.
