Under New Ownership, Holy Ground Bar’s Outdoor Space Is Getting a Revamp | Eater New Orleans

"Before Katrina, the bar operated as the punk-rock haven Dixie Taverne, a bit of its long-running identity that preceded its post–World War II operation and current incarnation as Holy Ground." - Stephanie Carter

Mr. AZ, the cook for Dixie Taverne, is attentive and takes pride in his work. He acknowledges his customers. The portions are very reasonable considering the price. Great value for the money. Dixie’s ambiance creates a relaxing atmosphere favorable for a serene environment.

Pretty much everything on the menu is delicious but my favorite is the chicken cracklins 🔥 they also have steak night and the steaks are cooked to perfect and seasoned perfectly. The bartender Krystal is very attentive and awesome too.

The food isn't what I thought it would be we both got a sampler and all the different meats were good but we didn't care for the raw dough looking bread and we went to the little bar on the side Kelly's to play poker while we waited for the food it's was very nice and inviting great machines even won a little but our food still wasn't done when it finally came out it looked some what bare on the plates much smaller portions then we expected but the staff was friendly and we had a good lunch!

Incredible steak night, going to my go to spot on Mondays. I started cutting it into smaller pieces to enjoy it longer. Sorry for the low res pic

Lucked up and found this place open after the snow storm. I ordered the wings, moz sticks, gumbo and chili cheese fries. The only issue I had( minus them giving me two gumbos and not my wings so I had to go back), was okra in the gumbo. It’s listed as a chicken and sausage…I have an okra allergy. I gave the gumbo to my kids(1, 7) and they smashed it meaning it was good. Please let people know the gumbo has okra or list on the menu. Okra allergies are rare but we are out here. This is the first place I’ve encountered with okra in chicken and sausage gumbo, but now I know to ask everywhere I go from now on. Other than that will be back for the food and the bar vibes was nice while waited for my food. The bar server was a really nice dude…he’s a keeper!!

This location was the Out of Bounds Sports Bar and Grill for several years and then it was Kelly's Pub and Grill for a few more years. This is definitely the cleanest and nicest I have seen this spot in its newest iteration as the Dixie Taverne. They are right next door and connected to the newly added location of Rock N Roll Kitchen which is a great restaurant. This is a nice space and would be a good spot to hang out for watching athletic events or just passing a good time. Overall you just can't beat hanging out at any spot named "Dixie" so God Bless Dixie and while polite Yankees are invited all you scalawags and carpetbaggers stay away!
