The 35 Best Happy Hours in Austin

"When: 3:30-6:30pm daily The Deal: Half off select apps, $5 margaritas, $1 off draft beers DK Maria’s has been serving up Tex-Mex classics out of a well-decorated strip mall location in South Austin for a few years now, but the best time to visit is from 3:30-6:30pm when they offer half off a handful of appetizers and $5 margaritas. The fabled $5 margarita has become something of a rarity in Austin these days, but the dream lives on at DK Maria’s. " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

My husband and I decided to try this place out. And,man, I'm so glad we did! There was only 2 servers at the time we were there, but, our server- Fernanda, was attentive, polite, and friendly. Place had good comfortable atmosphere, clean, and seemed spacious. My husband got sweet tea, which he said was very good, and I got a Mexican martini, which was so good that I wish I had ordered another one. We started with- chips, salsa, "queso Roberto" ( similar to queso compuesto) , and a guac salsa. All so very delicious that it was difficult to stop eating to save room for our dinner, lol. I ordered chalupas- on the menu it's called - "Gimmie Chalupas", 2 to a plate, so I ordered one chicken and one beef so I could share one with my husband. He ordered the street tacos, 3 came on the plate, and he shared one with me. When we got our food, it came with a grilled jalapeno, and man, I loved that! So much so, I order a couple of those to go. All the food was amazing! We will definitely go back.

Google
The service was good, the place is nice, clean and spacious. The food was okay, nothing really stood out, but it wasn't bad. Just basic, we had shrimp enchiladas and tortilla soup.

Google
We had a nice experience having dinner at this restaurant. We ordered the fajita plate with all sides and it was very good. The beat was soft, tender and very tasty. It seems that fajitas are the specialty because everyone at our table order those the menu extensive and buried so I’m sure there is, more delicious plates to try. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and it has accents that make you feel as if you’re in a little town in Mexico. The service was friendly, and courteous. Our food was served promptly and very warm. The sizzling sizzling griddle is very appropriate to serve you the freshest food possible. Most definitely will come back to try other plates from the menu.

Google
I've been here twice. The food is really good, and the prices are very competitive. It's also a pretty calm place that doesn't get packed with people, even during their most busy times which is another reason I like coming here. Service is very good, and food is served promptly. If you like Mexican dishes then I do recommend this restaurant. It isn't the fanciest however. My only complaint is they could do a better job cleaning the tables and using newer furniture. Apart from that, strongly recommend.

Google
Mira listen. I don’t think people come here for the food. While it’s decent and edible, the real star of the show is the ambiance. We showed up at 7:00 on Wednesday to a live band, people dancing, having fun, and carrying on like they have 0 troubles in the world. And that’s why I’ll be coming back. I had nachos that came out soggy and my mans had a chimichanga that was absolutely fine. The drinks were fine. But the vibes were excellent. 🤌 I will say that the best part of our meal was the homemade chips and salsa. Love a homemade chip.

Google
Great food and great service. The staff was very friendly. They may have been a little slow but the restaurant was pretty busy and it was lunch time so we understood. My friend had the BBQ brisket enchiladas and said that they were the best enchiladas she had ever had. The chips and salsa were so good! I really liked that they projected basketball games. I would definitely come back! Excellent Mexican food and pancakes! (;

Google
We had 10 people in our party and were seated right away. The food portions were unexpectedly big and delicious. Unlimited chips and salsa were a plus and kept the kids happy while waiting for our food. Even their margaritas were to our liking....with a kick. So glad we found this place and will go back again. We didn't take photos of all the plates, but here are two.

Google
Hell yeah. Excellent Mexican joint in south Austin. Service was great, the area is large and spacious with an inside and outside area. Full bar, breakfast till 3pm, and daily specials. The Guisada was delish, chips are really good, and frijol was 🤌. The salsa with the chips is okay, the green salsa they sell for $2 ain't worth it, and the corn tortillas are from the michocana, not homemade. 4 stars for that but forreal, go check this out.

Yelp
Best beef & chicken fajitas lunch special in South Austin. It comes with grilled poblano peppers, grilled onions and queso fresco starting at $ 11.99.

Lucia Garcia ..

Yelp
This place is awesome. They might have the best chips in all of Austin as they are freshly made in house and come out right from the fryer. Their salsas and quesos are also great. We have been several times and there is hardly ever a wait and the staff is very nice and attentive. I could go just for the chips and queso but would recommend Aiden's tacos. They make their own taco shells as well. Their charro beans are so good mixed with the rice. This is such a gem in South Austin!

Yelp
Back in 2019 I gave DK's three stars. The salsa was memorable but the puffy tacos were not. Come to think of it, I have a bad history of not liking them. So, here's the redemption visit brought to you by a long wait at the Discount Tire a few hundred yards away. Seated immediately and the chips/salsa made it to the table quickly. Combo fajitas with shrimp and beef being my dish of choice for the day. Didn't take long and I was assembling my first taco. Props on the poblano strips where most places use boring bell peppers. I did wish the onions had a little better treatment in the dish. Caramelized maybe? Seems they were barely cooked upon arrival. The skirt steak had a nice flavor as did the shrimp. Both flavors paired well with the condiments provided. Nice portions of guac and sour cream for the price. Pico was also abundant and fresh. Rice and beans rounded out the experience; the skillet is empty and my tummy is bulging! I was even offered a beverage togo. Nice redemption DK's; and I'll be back since my fave tex-mex place canned half the menu during covid!

Yelp
Bright open spot. Clearly some regulars at the bar. Fast service and fresh food. We visited on a Friday and surprised at no wait. Cheese quesadillas were amazing. Ruben was our wait staff and he was truly a rockstar. We will 100% be back.

Yelp
If you are a Yelper, and you take the history of Austin food seriously, This is your Museum of the History of Austin Tex-Mex cuisine. This is a restaurant dedicated to documenting and re-creating the great signature dishes of the most important Tejano cooks who did their work in Austin. There are other restaurants in the world which re-create traditional dishes. But almost none have the commitment to identifying the historic cook and crediting them with their individual innovations and masterpieces. A "runner up" on historical commitment would be Rules in London, an upscale establishment which itself dates back to 1798. Rules goes out of its way to preserve the great dishes of Victorian cooking - even to the point of maintaining a game farm to obtain fowls and roasts that would be otherwise unavailable on a modern table. Unlike DK Maria, Rules draws its history from its own ancient recipes. DK Maria follows the Austin Mexican community as a whole. Another difference: Rules will "cheat" a bit to reflect modern tastes. That is less of an issue with DK Maria - because only a subset of the dishes are historical legacy dishes. (These are clearly identified on the menu.) Most of the dishes are the cook's own take on the basic repertoire of Tex-Mex cuisine. The cook's personal interpretation dishes are in most cases outstanding. * * * DK Maria's has the best Queso Fundido I have had anywhere on the planet. This is an easy competition to win. Most Queso Fundido is awful. What you typically get is a hot platter with a cheese blob on top with the consistency of half-chewed bubble gum. The cheese does not want to separate itself from itself Making eating the dish almost as much of a pain in the a** as eating crab. The cheese itself does not typically taste like much. (We ain't talking baked Gorgonzola here.) So the dish depends on the ingredients mixed in with the cheese. In most cases, the mix-ins are nothing special ... Making Queso Fundido the world's most inconvenient way to eat plain old onions. * * * DK Maria's El Flamedo is of another order of magnitude entirely. It is crammed with grilled vegetables. The grilled vegetables are bursting with flavor. I am guessing the vegetables are bursting with flavor because DK Maria's has a very very good vegetable vendor. These are much better mushrooms and peppers than one usually gets in an Austin restaurant. The flaming is precisely enough timed to give a lovely charred taste to the vegetables without blasting the life out of them. It is not easy to get the timing right on a dish like this. Too little time under the flame and you get no char. Too much time under the flame and your vegetables are casualties. So what you are getting is kitchen skill at work. Add to this a fine fine chorizo at the bottom of the cheese and you have great eating. * * * I am not convinced that every single solitary dish that comes out of the kitchen will be legendary. The chips and salsa at the beginning had wonderful puffy chips and an utterly indifferent salsa. How can a "Museum of Great Texmex Cuisine" have a mediocre salsa? Didn't any of the great cooks have an extraordinary salsa recipe? But everything else about this place is outstanding. Plus - reading the menu is as entertaining as eating the food. You can learn a ton of history from that menu. Some of the claims in that history are a little eyebrow raising. (Did DK Maria's ancestors REALLY cook for the armies on both sides of the Battle of the Alamo? I need to have that one explained to me.) Overall, however, this place is fascinating. Worth many visits to explore what they have to offer - even if a handful of the visits come up with duds.

Yelp
Brisket filled enchiladas w/ con Carne and queso and chips / salsa! Yummmmmmm! This was amazing!

Yelp
Another update to another bad review. Yes. I continue to come here. Yes I know I keep running into issues. This place is minutes from my house and the food is good. The people are nice. The execution sucks. I probably had the most simple order in the world. Some tortillas, half corn half flour, side of rice and beans. Chips. Queso. Salsa. Tortillas were missing. Rice was missing. Beans were put in bag sideways so there was more in the bag v the container. I assumed since it was such a simple order I would not have to check it. I was wrong. Again.

Yelp
Really great service and our waitress was so nice. The food is horrifically awful. The refried beans were so watered down that they tasted like dirty dishwater with no salt. Plus they were cold. The chips tasted like precut frozen corn tortillas that they fry and reheat with oil. They leave a film of grease in the mouth. We have eaten here several times a few years back which it seemed like it got worse with each visit but it's been a few years so we have it another go. Won't go back again.

Yelp
I like DK Maria's for their solid OG Austin TexMex. It's a really pleasant venue during the day - can't vouch for the atmosphere at night. I've been 3 times now and was totally satisfied with the service, the food and the value for money. The portions are large enough that I can only eat half. Good chips and salsa too. Give it a try.
google avatar

Candice R.

Yelp
The food is not very good and they charge for salsa. No other restaurant does that. We won't be back
google avatar

Yelp
Actually pretty good this time. Menudo is a different style than I prefer but I customized it and it turned out pretty good. I prefer it spicier but it was not a good day to bring the heat. The Lady had a build your own cheese enchiladas with verde sauce and ate it all. The quac is different than we prefer but still pretty good. I ate her rice which was really good. Excellent and friendly service! I tipped well because of the service. Do I recommend? Yes, but if you want hard core, greasy, very spicy Tex Mex, this does not fit in that category. At least I won't have to have a bucket of ice cubes and a box of matches. :-) . Tip! They have Goat! Next time!

Yelp
I've eaten here quite a few times. It's consistently the same problem. The chips and the taco shells taste like they're fried in old oil, that hasn't been changed regularly. It causes a rancid taste. I feel like it's a cheap out on the restaurant's part, and it's happened often enough to realize it's not a one off. I hope my review causes someone to take notice and make a change. Because the restaurant is decent enough otherwise.

Judy D.

Yelp
I had the chicken fajita tacos on the lunch menu. They were delicious, with grilled onions, peppers and cotija cheese. The service was friendly and the ambiance was great with paper picado and colorful decor. I will go back and branch out on the menu.

Yelp
I got food to go here but the inside was super cute when I went to pick up my food but the person at the bar wasn't super kind when I went back for a second time because we didn't receive tortillas with our fajitas. The food we got was solid and just what you want from a Tex mex establishment. The chips were hot just like I like them
google avatar

Craig C.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today had the beef enchiladas tamales rice and beans and it was great. Chips were also good thick and crunchy. The service was great attentive waitress asked us several times if we needed anything. Very clean and I love the lively Mexican music it reminds us of the San Antonio River walk. The lunch prices are substantially lower than dinner prices but I'm sure the food is always good come by you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Legendary! Brought my mom & sister here around 2:30pm on a Tuesday after a friend suggested it to us. We love going to lunch together & being from the RGV, our standards for Mexican food & Tex-Mex are pretty high. The chips & salsa are so good! Sturdy homemade chips with a great crunch. Salsa is flavorful with a good amount of spice to it. We ordered the beef fajita lunch, the chicken fajita lunch & the ceviche. 5 stars across the board. Tender meats, wonderfully browned onions & peppers, super fresh ceviche. We also loved the homemade tortillas, rice & beans! Food came out very hot. Even the limes we asked for were really big & juicy. That's important in our world! Our server was super friendly & we loved the atmosphere. We even like the plates because they're roomy & deep. Random detail, I know, but it's true. 10/10! We'll definitely be back (often)!

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! We have been wanting to find a replacement for Casa G's since they went WAAAYYYYYY down hill. We went on a Sunday evening around 6pm... the place was not busy at all. Service was awesome (our waitress was so sweet and really funny, so sorry we don't remember her name!). For people that dig Casa Garcia's but are tired of their really shitty waitstaff and bartenders and the shit pile regulars that are rude, entitled and think they own the place (not to mention the fact that they get people absolutely can't-walk shithoused) THIS Is your new go to in South Austin. Everything we had was like a higher quality, more-fresh version of Casa G's. The queso was simple Tex-Mex melt queso but had great flavor and perfect consistency. My pescitarian wife got the fish tacos and they were GREAT (grilled white fish filets on fresh corn tortillas with a tangy, fresh crunchy slaw). I ordered the "cow camp" enchiladas (cheese and tender carne guisada with chile con carne sauce and beans/rice) and the meat was tender, great rich flavor and well-plated sauce to meat/cheese ratio. The chips were house made and fresh, the salsa was unique and tangy with a bit of spice (if you like HOT like we do, get a side of jalapenos to spice it up). Our server, after learning it was our first time there, brought us 2 fresh house-made flour tortillas to try without us asking because she knows how good they are... and as 100% right. WOW. Tortillas were better than casa G's and even better than Lupe Tortilla! For our first visit, EVERYTHING was great and the price point was fair and well worth the experience. We will be back!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here before a holiday party for a few drinks and a bite to eat. It was a little busy on a Friday night so we sat at the bar. We both ordered the grande margarita. It was nothing special but it got the job done. I ordered the ceviche. I ensured that it was made dairy and gluten free. It comes with a different type of chip which they left off. Overall it was good but I have had better. My husband ordered the half plate of quesadillas and it was huge! He enjoyed his meal and ranked it about a 4 star. They do have chips and salsa to eat while you are waiting on food. I'm a sucker for chips as they were homemade corn chips. They were thicker than your average tortilla chip and delicious. The salsa was unique and not sure if I can recommend it or not. Overall an average Mexican restaurant for drinks and eats. I would come back again since it's close to where I live.

Yelp
Reagan says their burger and fries is the best in the world. All the chips and salsa you want. Texmex is very tasty.

Yelp
Great place with good food. They also have a party room. This place is my go-to for drinks and chicken ranchero.

Yelp
The best place in Austin for TexMex! We no longer drive to SE San Antonio when we need a fix because DK Maria's is that good. Enchiladas Gueros with Chili Con Carne, Beef Chimichanga, Queso, and the chips. Oh, the chips. They are real & fresh fried made in house tortilla chips. The salsa is the perfect heat...not too much as to overpower the flavor of the food but with a hint of onions, garlic and very fresh and cold. The bar is really yummy for day drinking. We call in and pickup to-go often because we are a bit far away but whether you eat there or to-go it is great.

Jesse R.

Yelp
We had a server named Marily R. She was very attentive and had an eye for detail. We never had to ask for anything as she was already on it. If you get a chance to eat DK MARIAS ask for Marily!

Yelp
Please avoid this place. For starters I ordered my food and was told 10-15 min.I showed up in 15 min bc I was next door. I then waited a good 5 min for someone to come to the front and assist me. Not one person was on the floor. This guy finally gives me my receipt. They only gave me the one showing my total, which seemed off. I asked to see the break down. After he hands it to me, he turns on his heel and walks off. They slipped a $5 Togo charge in. A very nice young lady brings me my food, which I'm assuming they started when I got there bc it took so long. I asked why I was being charged for picking my food up. She says it's this new thing where they charge me for the Togo containers and plastic bag. I said that makes no sense. If I sat down to eat and asked for it to go, you wouldn't charge me.I don't think she thought of it like that before. I told her I've worked in the industry and this definitely didn't cost $5. Y'all will be making sure that customers don't return. I wanted to tell the owner, I'm not padding your books. I'm not paying $5 for giving you my business. I said I know you can remove this, please get a manager. Apparently, they didn't have any managers there yet? She wanted me to leave my name and number and wait for a call. I said I know you can remove this. I've worked in this industry before . Finally she says that she needs to get a code. They voided my order and put it in again without the unethical charge. When I got home to eat, everything was so bad. The beef fajita nachos, the fish tacos and JJ's street tacos. JJ street tacos were so over cooked that the ground beef/chorizo was like hard granules full of cayenne or chipotle powder. I can't tell which, it was just immediately overwhelming. I was still willing to return after the Togo incident, however this just sealed the deal. We had to throw all and I mean all of the food away. What little I ate, my stomach is churning. When I told my friends about today, they all said ew gross I could have told you to not eat there.

Yelp
Delicious authentic food! Great service. Best tortillas chips in Austin! Good happy hour and strong drinks! Everything I've had here is great! One of my favorite Mexican food spots for sure!

Michael B.

Yelp
I like this hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. It's good. I think they fry their own chips and that makes a huge difference. Everything I've eaten has been well done.

Yelp
When your date lives a few minutes away, neither of you have tried this place, and you're both craving Mexican, trying DK Maria's seemed like a no brainer. And the summary is thus: it's a phenomenal option of a variety that's surprisingly rare these days in hip Austin -- the neighborhood Tex-Mex restaurant. The service was superb and friendly, although we had several different servers taking care of our table. Our drinks were kept filled and the orders accurate. I'll also note that the menu online is significantly smaller than the actual menu in the restaurant. I ended up trying the puffy tacos, which tasted a ton like the ones at the Tres Amigos of old Austin. (More on that later.) My date created her own combo and we both liked the chips and salsa. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure someone at DK Maria's has made the rounds of old Austin Tex-Mex legends. Like I said, my puffy tacos reminded me of Tres Amigos. The enchiladas on the menu had a description that mentioned Jorge Arredondo's recipe for the chili gravy. (If you lived in Austin years ago, you know about Jorge, Jorge's, and even the Uptown Enchilada Bar.) Likewise, the burger is listed on the menu as the "Bowling Alley Burger," clearly a nod to how El Arroyo's burger was listed on their menu.

Yelp
DK Maria's is truly legendary Tex Mex. In my opinion this restaurant will have quite a high level of success in the future. Some of my favorites are the Big Burro Burrito with green sauce (photo attached) and the chile rellenos. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and and the margaritas are great. Stop in today and check out their happy hour specials... Can't be beat!

Yelp
What a nightmare!! We come in for dinner tonight at around 6:30 p.m.. We were promptly greeted and seated and that's about the highlight of this review. Our waitress came over once to take our drink order and our food order, And although she walked around and next to us several times she never checked on us again. We had to ask the guy that came to bring us our food if he could flag down our waitress and that didn't even do the trick. We sat there with empty drinks for 20 minutes and she either didn't notice or didn't care or both. The meal arrives and we ordered these stuffed avocados. I've had this at other locations and it's a lightly breaded avocado. This one looked like a potato drenched in cheese. To cut it I literally had to use my knife and saw it open. At that point I could tell that this was premade quite a while ago because the chicken that was stuffed inside tasted like chicken jerky. It was tough, it was flavorless, and it had a weird smell. Again we sat there another 20 minutes trying to flag our waitress down to let her know that our meal wasn't great, Two of us at the table ordered the same thing. Again no such luck so we literally had to go to the hostess and ask if we could speak to a manager. Well guess what, That didn't even work they never sent over a manager!! Finally after a very long hour of horrible customer service and awful food we paid for the only other meal that was edible at the table. Mind you, I said edible but by no means was it tasty. We've come here before and it was never this bad. What happened to this place?? Such a shame to let a previous good little tucked away from the big crowds restaurant take such a big dive. Not worth it whatsoever.

Yelp
Horrible cocktail drinks!!! Save your money and order beer. Margarita in tiny glass for $6.50! One basically receives lemonade slush. Don't order Top Shelf unless it's a shot by itself. Top shelf mixture will make you want to spit the drink out. Bartender has no mixology experience or knowledge of basic drink mixture. Food is extremely salty. It was the worst Tex-Mex food I have ever eaten. We didn't eat much of our food. Too pricey for generic , plan food. Be careful ordering the Queso as it is lumpy and taste like government cheese. We will not return back. A waste of $32 dollars!

Yelp
I feel most great Mexican restaurants can be judged by the salsa .. add house made fresh chips (not from a bag ) and you have a great start to a great meal . I have been to DK's a few times now and we have taken out a meal or two as well. Each and every time the meal is fantastic and consistent ! Great service too ! Family oriented spot and the service is the same , they treat every one like family! The salsa is fresh with the perfect heat! I always get the jalapeño fajitas with steak ! These are absolute perfection... the jalapeños are charred a bit with just enough kick to enjoy the meal and add just the right heat to each bite. Definitely spicy but oh so good ! The place is always busy but always worth it !

Yelp
This place has awesome Mexican food! I loved it. I had the fish tacos with flour tortillas. Soo good with lime rice and black beans. Everything was delicious even the salsa. The sever was very good and attentive.

Yelp
Jewels AND Preston ARE PROFESSIONALS! I'm a long term patron., before dk's trust me Cindy needs training or replacement CINDY IS rude, tacky and HATEFUL AMD DEROGATIVE TO HER EMPLOYEES AMD SHE STEALS FROM HER EMPLOYEES; see as follows Super bad experience tonight! They were not busy and I expected to have a server wait on my crowd of a large crowd! I went to the restaurant and once back, I witnessed her degrading the bartender (I'm not sure of her name she wore glasses and had reddish- hair) HOWEVER I HAD CINDY. As our server which is the GM of the restaurant as our server) I'm not rude so I allowed her to wait on us. Although I'm positive tHat is not protocol for any Gm) I once was a Gm for a restaurant and that was strictly forbidden . I mean you can help a server but you are not suppose to take there tables nor that tip. We tipped a nice tip not only because of our total but hopefully she was professional. DID SHE GIVE THE SERVERS THERE TIP OR POCKET THEM? (Did she give Enough to give it to her staff which is doubtful! ) Maybe dk's has other rules that I'm unaware of. Your services make what I made as a server so they rely on tips which YOUR GM TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE OF: DO THWIR I have no clue how she can do that. She wanted their money and I know it because she was so rude to them I'm front of others. Please free to call me and I will prove this to you. She is a tacky manager and extremely unprofessional. I go often to DK's and I have never witnessed anything but rudeness from Cindy to her employees. She is rude to them in front of other customers. UNBELIEVable! Once I ordered a simple Order of potatoes and she insulted the new Bartender about not using Asterix to for some Stupid reason. I know you have your protocol but it seems she should calm Down and treat her workers in a decent way and more than 3 or more Ties She has failed I can Prove this need be! Ion I I WAMT THE OWNWRA NAME ANS EMAIL.. they deserve to know the lack of service and how they can approve Email or call please. Tour staff is horrible I care or the ones that get food service me and 16 others I. A crow d did. It get that service and we tipped over a hundred diars. WbTs your ima., money or satisfaction

Yelp
They lost my online order of two items, didn't have what I ordered so without asking they substituted something else. Never apologized and manager told me he didn't know how to refund me for the item that I did not order. Tried to contact the owners and was not acknowledged. Poor service and the food wasn't even good. Waste of money and such a hassle. I definitely will not be back!

Yelp
Fantastic margaritas in a humble setting - the food can be less than stellar from visit to visit but overall a great go-to for local Tex-Mex cuisine. Their specialties tend to have a bit more pop so give them a shot.

Yelp
Food is great but they majorly lack customer service and staffing. Online ordering system is borderline non existent. Avoid online orders if you can.

Yelp
Excellent option as a Fooda popup at our work location. Ranchero beans were a bit watery, but spoon in the rice and add a little of their salsa and you have a danged tasty soupy bowl of goodness. Steak was nicely seasoned and tender on the fajita tacos, with fresh homemade flour tortillas and tomato, lettuce and cheese. Made me happy to be stuck at work for lunch. Y'all come back soon.

Yelp
This is my easy go to Mexican food spot! The location is great for me. Lots of parking. Great customer service. I've had the chicken tortilla soup, tamales, flautas, and the veggie enchiladas. All were great but the tamales were a bit harder than I'd like.

Yelp
This is our local Tex-Mex place. Pre-coronavirus, we used to go once a month or so. I have a mild addiction to the chimichanga, which I hope you know is a deep-fried burrito, which is crisp, like a pie. DK Maria's serves their chimichanga smothered in queso, and I used to ask them to put queso (just a drizzle) on my side of rice. And we would order like, two jumbo margs each. Post-coronavirus, we recently ordered takeout while DK's was opened at 25% capacity. They had a few tables seated, and all the barstools were put up, meaning no one could sit at the bar (our second fave place to sit, next to a booth). There were a ton of takeout orders packed up and ready to go. One table was enjoying the patio, but they were hidden; I could only just hear them, not see them. Our to-go meal was only $30 for two entrees and an appetizer, so it felt like a bargain. I miss going in person.

Yelp
Short staffed with only one cook and 2 waitresses (one called in) they still managed to keep my tea filled and cooked the BEST Chicken Chili Relleno I have ever had! Each Mexican food place I eat I ALWAYS order the Chili Relleno as the first item I eat and WOW was this one AMAZING! I give the cook for the awesome job and for doing a great job even when they are short staffed at Lunch time!

Yelp
I'm not sure exactly what it was called but they have these enchiladas with barbecue beef inside of them and chili con queso on the top pretty much one of the best things I've ever ate my life! Our fav joint

Yelp
It was only my second time coming here in all my years in Austin, and I'm steadily trying to figure out why it took me so long to come back. My wife and daughters and I enjoyed the food immensely! Flavorful and plentiful! They have one of the best margaritas on ice I have ever tasted! I'm making this place a regular stop from here on... you should too!

Yelp
Favorite neighborhood Mexican food restaurant. Not sure why they have a lower rating, but don't let it scare you away. They have a pretty big menu so not every single thing is going to be a winner, but once you know what to get, it's on!! Prices are pretty fair considering the amount of food you get. Everyone who works there is nice even if they're not in your face about it. Ticks all the boxes for a good neighborhood restaurant. We eat here all the time!!

Yelp
Well we made the trip from Manor again...and yet another great adventure..almost..wife stayed with the Beef enchiladas...service, chips, salsa and queso were all spot on..This round I ordered from The Legendary Menu and the SP brisket chiladas landed..being the I have eaten my weight in good brisket, this was some what of a let down..the brisket was cubed and extremely tough and dry...Great smokey flavor, just not quality meat..another thing that threw me was the queso on top, didn't see the listed in the description and considering we have queso as a starter, just was a cheese over load..beans and rice we fresh and hit the spot..this one experience won't scare me away and we plan on returning to try some more menu items..this one just didn't please my palette..I think the quail will be my next target.

Yelp
Had high hopes as it is so close to home but unfortunately isn't legendary. Tortillas are way too thick. Probably 100 calories in every single chip with salsa! Queso pretty nice Fajitas tasted ok but quite a lot of grease and the duvet thickness tortillas made them hard to eat Chile relleno not bad but only got 1 Carne guisada ok but very small bowl Kids chicken dry as sticks, fries were cold Overall I'll be sticking with driving further to Chuy's where quality and value for money is much better. Oh and the cockroach next to our table, which to be fair was dead I think just really put us off

Yelp
Ate here while I was waiting for my tires to get fixed at Discount tire next door. It's okay. Touché for the restaurant name. I was hungry and the "legendary" drew me in. Had the crawfish enchiladas. Although different and not terrible by any means, they won't draw me back. Margs, both frozen and rocks, were quite disappointing. Great chips, salsa is pretty good.

Yelp
My family and I ate here last night. It was quite busy around 7pm so there was a short wait. But you can eat inside OR outside! We ate inside and ordered regular queso, and DKM queso with all the goodies. My kids had a burger, and chicken tenders with fries. All was hot and fresh. I had the Espuelas Enchiladas(brisket enchiladas with chipotle sauce). It was quite good but the brisket was dry and hardened. I will attribute that to being the end of the day...had that brisket been moist, tender and fresh no doubt those flavors would've been delicious! My wife had the tortilla soup and it was good....Chunky and filling! We were very excited about the variety the menu contained and I can say it's a spot we will be returning to. A unique menu option there were items containing quail! As a quail lover, I cannot wait to try these options. Also, plenty of parking at this place. I noticed dozens of people picking up to-go orders, so this is a familiar place for many no doubt. The drinks were pretty good too! I had a traditional margarita; and my wife had a pina colada. Her pina colada was excellent! They had flavored margaritas which I will try next time. I noticed a lot of people at this restaurant eating appetizers and bar drinks only, so definitely a place to gather with friends, share some apps, and enjoy a cold drink after a long week. Thanks DK Maria's, we'll be back! :-)

Yelp
Thank you DK Maria for making my nieces bday dinner a success. It was last minute and they came through 10000... Our server Roswell, was hands down.. AMAZING.. He didn't get nothing wrong on our orders, of 25 folks.. He deserves a definite raise.. Thank you very much. We will be back. The service was great., But we weren't big on the food though. Thank you.. Maria Gonzales

Yelp
First time going. I went mainly because I was told they make their tortillas in house - yes! So I asked for a mango daquiri. The blender is broke. How??? I am offered a mango margarita instead. It was strong, but it was just a frozen margarita with some kind of mango something poured over the top. meh. I asked if I could get the Jorge enchiladas but with beef instead of cheese - nope. no substitutions. The waiter suggested I do the "create your own" plate. So I did - 2 beef enchiladas with chile con carne sauce, cilantro lime rice and refried black beans. The enchiladas were as wonderful as a tex-mex enchilada can be. Yum. The cilantro lime rice did not have cilantro or lime. ?? was not impressed. The refried black beans came in a cup and not smashed to puree form. I questioned the guy who brought my plate and was told that yes, those are the refried beans. I asked my waiter how they qualify as refried beans. He apologized and said they were, in fact, not the refried beans. Whatever they were, they did taste good. Just was not what I asked for. Then again, they did not have a pinto bean version of refried beans so maybe the mistake was in my favor. The reason I went - tortillas. They were okay. For me, they were a little undercooked. Would I go back? Only if I am in that area and craving tex-mex.
