The Best Cheese Curds in Madison, Wisconsin

Here’s an honest review: the outside sitting is a nice, cheese curds are soggy with no crunch, the burgers are good but greasy, I got the double and finished it all, the sweet potato fries are good too. The bottomless mimosas are a hit here and are worth it if you’re debating on getting. The waiter forgot about us at the end of the visit so it took a while to get the check. Water wasn’t refilled consistently.

Overpriced - $15 for veggie burgers and we had to pay additional for side of fries. Burger tasted okay. Cheese curds were delicious. Service was quick. We ordered drink and noticed a small fly at the bottom of the glass. Staff is friendly, but food is really below par. Was really disappointed with the experience.

Google
Pretty much our favorite place to grab a burger (for now). Their burgers are far from fancy or elegant but they’re just so good! They specialize in smash burgers - my favorite is The OG while my fiancé’s is the Mushroom Swiss (which is really good, too). Their cheese curds are fire - they use a yellow cheddar as opposed to a lot of other restaurants which use a white cheddar. They also have a good selection of drinks on tap! Oh and their burgers are reasonably priced. You should definitely try this place if you’re in the mood for a good burger.

We liked the atmosphere at Dlux and the service wad good. We made a reservation for two and got a nice table inside. We ordered mojitos, cheese curds, three sliders, and a bacon and egg sandwich. The curds were very good. They were hot and crispy and had a lovely seasoning. The filling of the sliders and sandwich were delicious, however....the buns were terrible. It was like eating air and sand at the same time. If they got some local buns it would easily be a five star rating. Do not order anything with a bun here unless you want to be disappointed.

Google
This place has an excellent atmosphere. We had a reservation for 8, but they were willing to seat us at 7:30 which was very nice! Staff was friendly and efficient. The drinks were a 10/10. We had the sugar momma which was a grapefruit vodka concoction and the Moscow mojito which was refreshing with a sweet dry finish. Cheese curds were well battered and came with a great dipping sauce. The burgers were a solid 9/10, the black and blue was absolutely to die for and the smoke show was very good! The green onion fries were disappointing, we thought they might be seasoned but they just had some cheese and green onions sliced on top, but the sweet potatoes fries were perfection! We would gladly eat here again! It seemed like it had date night vibes and was a really fun place to try. Total bill with tip was around $65.

I went here on a Friday evening and I loved all the food and drinks. I ordered the Spicy Hawaiian burger and Parmesan Truffle Fries which were both tasty. I would have liked more pineapples, but the blend of sauces and veggies on the chicken burger made it good. I also got a beer and the Pink Squirrel (a boozy shake). Service was also nice and checked in to see if everything was good. Fun fact: The Pink Squirrel drink originated in Wisconsin!

This was my husband & I's first time here. All i have to say is Amazing place, the owner knows what they are doing & have has a great staff! Walked in without a reservation & were lucky enough to be offered a spot at the bar. Drew, the bartender, was awesome & helpful! Our waitress Terra, was one of the best waitresses we have had in a while! The white chicken chili was seasoned perfectly, the fried pickles had the perfect amount of cruch & once again the seasoning, perfect. The burgers were fantastic! We ordered the smoke show with parmesan truffle fries & The OG with parmesan tots. Also, black cherry craft soda, PERFECT! AWESOME FOOD, ATMOSPHERE, & SERVICE!

Needed to escape the sun, heat, and humidity. And, mildly hungry. My Cobb Salad was excellent: fresh, crispy greens; hard boiled eggs; bits of bacon; a mound of crumbled blue cheese; tomatoes; croutons; and creamy dressing. PERFECT for a summer day. Excellent service and moderately priced.

Yelp
Not to harp on a place that's closing anyway, but... My husband and I used to frequent DLUX back in the day before kids, and we loved it! Since starting a family, however, it's harder to go out to places as much, so I will admit it had been a few years. When we heard they were closing, we knew we had to stop in one last time. We decided to brave it, and yesterday we took our kids with us for one final hurrah. Normally, I would have ordered the DLUX burger (fond memories of that melt in your mouth sandwich!) but being pregnant, I can't have bleu cheese. I ordered the standard instead, with my old favorite - cheddar cheese and chive fries. It was honestly just okay. A double butterburger at Culver's is way better. My kids wanted grilled cheese, and despite never having ordered off the kids menu before, I was shocked. The cheese wasn't melted even a little, and the bread was just burger buns flipped upside down. The icing on the cake was when I woke up in the middle of the night, sick as a dog. Not sure if we just didn't remember the food correctly, if our tastes have changed over the years, or if they have just simply given up with only 9 days left of being in business. Sadly, what used to be a great place for us ended on a very sour note. We won't be missing DLUX.

Yelp
Stopped at DLUX for brunch on a Saturday around noon. It was surprisingly not very busy. The best part of my meal was the Bloody Mary. I thoroughly enjoyed their bloody mix, I do recommend ordering it spicy though. Our food was decent as well, we tried two different types of smash burger which were good but with the OG smash burger, the bun got very soggy which made it messy and slightly unpleasant. The taste was good though. Overall the food was good but service was subpar. We ordered beer chasers with our Bloody Mary and we never got them. We also ordered and appetizer that never came. Our server did apologize but he seemed pretty spacey. Overall, decent meal but not rushing to go back.

Yelp
The fries here are mind blowing. The Parmesan truffle fries are delicious and the siracha aioli that comes with the sweet potato fries had the perfect kick. I could eat a bowl of the fries here and die happy. I didn't try the burgers but they looked good. In the photos below each of the fries is a small so it was perfect for a side.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. Their OG burger is fantastic and the homemade thousand island dressing is delicious. The service is always great. The awesome decor of artwork is really pleasing. I'm so sad this place is closing at the end of the month. They have great milkshakes, including boozy ones. Get it while you still can.

Yelp
Popped in here early on a Wednesday evening (around 4 p.m.), was seated immediately, and had a pretty good dinner. The cheese curds were a yummy starter -- light, hot, and not too gooey. I ordered The Standard Burger for an entree and it was just that. Standard. No frills, just a decent burger. You could get that type of burger anywhere and for a cheaper price, but I wasn't disappointed. My partner ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and he said it was good, but nothing remarkable. I would actually say the highlight of our meal was the sweet potato fries (a last-minute addition). They were super crispy and seasoned well too. It definitely elevated a pretty average meal. The restaurant itself is nice. Lots of space, cool round booths that offer a bit of privacy. The service was good too. Kylie, our server, was friendly and attentive. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at DLUX. But it was really pricey (about $60 pre-tip for two people and no alcohol), so I'm not sure it would be the first place I recommend to someone.

Yelp
We were looking for something downtown Madison, this looked like our type of place. Glad we went, the food was very good, and staff gave good suggestions. A decent beer and drink selection. We walked, so can't say parking, but keep in mind it's downtown, so parking is interesting. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Upon recommendation, we enjoyed two of the best cheeseburger we've had in a very long time! And cheese curds were delicious. My wife was impressed with her amazing chocolate shake. Our waiter, Oggie, was extremely attentive and made several recommendations we enjoyed. Next time in Madison, first place to stop for dinner.
google avatar

Jacquie B.

Yelp
Great ambiance for a burger place. Service was attentive and friendly. The burgers were delicious and the Parmesan truffle fries were next level. Nice drink menu and beer selection too.
google avatar

Yelp
Conveniently located near the Capitol. Lots of choices for beer and cider on tap. Many options for drinks. One can sit at the bar because it's comfortable and spacious. The food was excellent. We started with fried pickles. Then we had a Farm house burger and the black bean burger. The fries were great too. Sweet potato and regular fries with many options for dips. Nice place for any occasion

Yelp
DLUX is a vibey bar with great food and atmosphere. My family has dined here on several occasions and have never had a bad experience. The service is always friendly and speedy, and the food is always of good quality and flavors. We got the cheese curds to start, which is a MUST! They have some of the best cheese curds in madison hands down! I forgot to take a picture before we scarfed them down! For dinner we had the chicken sandwich, smokeshow burgers, and a black and blue chicken burger. The chicken sandwich was covered in regular mustard which didn't work very well, but everything else was great! The truffle fries had a sort of truffle cream sauce on them which I would have preferred on the side rather than coated on top. I love a good homemade chip, but i'm not sure if someone forgot to put the seasoning on the "seasoned" chips. The shakes are always spectacular with local sassy cow ice cream! Overall, DLUX is a DLISH local spot!

Yelp
I dined in here on a weekday evening. The place was kind of empty. May be this is a breakfast place. Cookies and creams milkshake was the best thing I had here. It was really thick and delicious. It doesnt work with straw, you need to scoop with a spoon. I had couple of burgers - sunrise and spicy hawaian. Both were decent. Spicy hawaiian was the better one. Truffle fries was good as well.
google avatar

Amanda V.

Yelp
The food and service was great here! My boyfriend got the Cobb salad and I got the crispy chicken honey mustard salad and the cookies and cream shake. Both salads were very tasty and the ambiance is very nice here.
google avatar

Yelp
Good service. Burger was good. Truffle fries were a huge disappointment. They have changed their approach and In my opinion have taken a huge step backwards.

Yelp
*Update 8/20/23: DLUX is a great place to get burgers/mixers, it's a place I save for the best experience as shown below. I ordered my typical cheeseburger with lettuce only, and ended up with the works. I asked my server about it, even after admitting she emphasized "lettuce only", I was greeted with: we can make another burger, but you'll have to pay for it. Not only did I scrape off the unwanted condiments, but I was left with disappointment. A big L for DLUX and I'm not sure if I'll ever return. If you want to gamble with having to pay for something you didn't order: this is the place for you.

Yelp
This place has good food! It's always very busy, so recommend showing up early and planning to wait. Curds and buffalo chicken sandwich are good. Drinks are also good!

Yelp
the place looks cute on the inside and spacious on the outside. lots of room to sit both inside and out. artwork is pretty cool and so are the booths. our waiter was very friendly and informative. got seated right away and order taken right away. the impossible burger 10/10 never go wrong. love trying them from different places. very fresh ingredients and make very well. have extra crispiness on burger. sweet potato fries 8/10. the fries were very good. good seasoning and crisp. the spicy mayo on the side went okay with it. it was good on its own. i would use it for my sushi. will get the recipe some how. standard burger 8/10. good flavoring. good patties cooked well. asked for regular jalapeños but we're picked ones instead. fries 10/10. good crisp to them nothing to complain about. overall cute place to go to on weekend with groups or date. bar area is nice as well

Yelp
Stopped in here on by fluke and so glad we did. Grat venue, roomy and interesting decor. The staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Not being able to decide, we went with the slider flight. We had purchased choice of several different choices and the 3 we chose were delicious. I'll be back to further try other options.

Yelp
I find this restaurant very confused. The space is cluttered with real tacky post-modern Warhol worship art. The name of the place is clearly a reference to a deluxe burger but they had to cut most of the vowels for funding purposes I assume. The interior a large square shaped bar surrounded by booths, a few tables, and a large high top table along the large pretty window. The center piece of the bar is actually kinda cool in a retro way, but it's hard to notice with the club music thumping and other pieces of cheap sharp angled art along the wall. Food came food went, drinks were quite sweet, taps were really above average, and the service folks working were quite friendly. Odd place right downtown a block from Monona Terrace.

Yelp
Walked in for a quick bite between dance sessions. No one even looked up to help us, so we left

Norm C.

Yelp
The food was very good. If not a normal burger joint. Nice beer selection and interesting options on the menu. Standard burger was good and chicken burger was also very good. Only downsides are this place was busy on a Saturday night. More of a reservation type place than burger joint. Also sitting at the bar I could see 6 mouse traps under the other side of the bar.

Yelp
Dlux is a burger bar for a reason, stick to the burgers and fries, everything eke is a disappointment. Smash burger with truffle fries amazing flavors, Caesar salad total disappointment, not the right toppings, box croutons not homemade. We also tried the onion dip which had zero flavor, had to add salt & pepper to eat it. So stick to the burgers!
google avatar

Yelp
Always enjoy coming back here. Food, ambience, and service 10/10. Loving the outdoor patio dining with a beautiful view of the Capitol. We went in on a Sunday night and we were immediately seated. Ordered the famous pickles fries, you can't visit DLUX and not order the pickle fries. Also we got the cheese curds and wings , loved them both. The spicy Hawaiian burger was a group favorite and so was the impossible standard. One of the best burger places in town. I am sad that they no longer have the salmon burger. That was another favorite of mine.z Also the shakes are the best here, do try it out . Check out DLUX for yummy burgers, apps, and shakes.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night - service was a little slow but the servers were super nice! Food: - Sliders - this is the menus best option. Three great portions of any of the sandwiches on the menu. -- DLUX burger: my least favorite. The caramelized onions were pretty sweet and overpowered the burger. The patty was nicely seasoned. -- Farmhouse burger: DELICIOUS. The fried green tomato was yum! -- Spicy Hawaiian: also DELICIOUS! Needs more jalapeños but was fantastic - fries: these are the cheddar green onion. Was not a fan of the cheese but the fries had great seasoning - wings: the wings were cooked well but the sauce was not great. It was heavy on the honey with none of the Cajun. Would get again with a different sauce Would definitely return!

Yelp
We came here for an early dinner on a summer weekday during their happy hour which is from 3-6pm and there was $2 off apps and taps. The inside has a bar in the middle with tables around the perimeter. They have tables outside but it was a bit loud given set up for an event for the weekend. We ate inside at a half circle booth. The inside has art along the walls which was a nice touch. The staff were super friendly and the food came out quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food we got. I especially loved the vegan cookies and cream shake (with soy based ice cream) and the Korean bbq flavored wings. We also got the fried pickles, cheese curds, French fries and the Dlux burger. The wings appetizer is one pound of wings (11 in our order) and they were perfectly crispy and the sauce was so delicious with a tiny hint of spice. The total for all the food above plus a cider was about $60, which was reasonable for the amount of food we got.

Yelp
Recently had a birthday date in DLUX of downtown Madison. I've DoorDashed from them in the past and the food was always pretty good. We went in around 8 pm and the place was nice. Clean and modern like ambiance to the place. We were sat at the bar which was comfortable but the service was lackluster. It took almost 20 minutes just to get started with waters and another 10/15 to put in any apps. Not too upsetting since there was only one girl at the bar. Eventually some help came by. 1- Cheddar and Green Onion fries: 10/10 These fries were really good. They came out fresh and crisp. The cheese and green onion were a great compliment. 2 - Cajun Honey/Honey Cajun wings: 4/10 These wings were pretty disappointing. I could tell the wings were cooked well. Crisp, juicy and tender. The cause wasn't good though. There wasn't any hint of Cajun on the wings. Really just honey wings with not much flavor. 3 - Mushroom Swiss: 7/10 Decent burger. Wasn't too warm when it came out and the mushrooms lacked flavor. The burger and the Swiss paired well but the mushrooms brought down the burger overall. Great place for a date night. Definitely recommend the fries. Maybe a different flavor for the wings though.

Joshua D.

Yelp
Industrial type warehouse burger place with sterile interior. Burgers are okay. The slider plate offers decent portion sizes and the opportunity to try different burgers

Yelp
Stopped in with my SIL for a drink while in town. I can't say much about the food, but loved the drinks. The Sugar Mama was AMAZING! It was so delicious. Check out the menu to see what it is! Added sweet potato fries as a snack and they didn't disappoint. The vibe, ther service, and the staff were all great!

Yelp
We walked to this restaurant and bar from our hotel. I noticed there were plenty of street parking and the street was quiet. I saw it was open but there was indications from down the street. We walked in to a modern looking and clean atmosphere. We were greeted by the bartender who said to sit anywhere as there numerous empty tables. We went a little before 9 on a Monday, they close at 10 pm. We had a very friendly server help us out. The cheese curds were a light and cheesy, they were ok. Maybe I am just not a cheese curd fan. We ordered a farmhouse burger with bacon and fried green tomatoes and it was good but not great. We had cocktails that were great, a boozy s'mores shake and a gin drink like an East side. I would return for the great location, service and atmosphere. I hear they have a good brunch.
google avatar

Steph B.

Yelp
Honestly DLUX is kind of pricey but the food is so good I have to give them 5 stars. I highly recommend their happy hour where their tap list is discounted. They have discounted appetizers too so I got the cheese curds (some of the best in Madison!!! So we'll seasoned!) and the mini sliders. The cool thing is you can mix and match which type of burger you want as a slider. I got a mix of veggie burgers and chicken burgers. They were all phenomenal. And if you want a boozy milkshake they have them too! Check them out!
google avatar

Mag L.

Yelp
I went to dlux for the second time recently, and it was a great experience. The service was great, and our server was knowledgeable and kind. I had a reservation, and we were seated promptly (may not have needed it on a Wednesday, but I wanted to be safe). I got a moscow mojito to start, and I loved it. Very minty and flavorful! I don't eat red meat, so I got the southwestern white bean burger and it was super tasty. Slightly spicy but not overpowering at all. I'd highly recommend the parmesan tots as a side. Way better than the fries! Not super parmesan-y, but perfectly crispy and hot. My sister and cousin both got the impossible burgers, and they raved about them. My cousin is vegan, and she said it was the best vegan burger she's had (the aioli is divine). Perfect restaurant to please meat eaters and vegans alike. Didn't try any of the shakes, but I bet they'd be great. The price is a bit higher than your typical burger joint, but it had a more elegant and upscale vibe to it which lead to the price increase. More of a special occasion place, but not unreadable for a weeknight dinner.
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
My college student chose this for our Friday night eats on a special weekend with his grandparents visiting. We were not disappointed! Everything is ordered separately. So we started with some Wisconsin cheese curds...superb! Next up we each got an amazingly perfectly cooked hamburger of our own choosing. My mushroom and swiss one was chef's kiss! Just all around next level food for what you order. I also enjoyed a hand spun shake. Definitely the piece de resistance! You have to order one. The fresh ingredients were mixed perfectly for a refreshing frozen treat! Plus their artwork is fantastic! You had me at Kool Aid man! The food is definitely worth it plus the views of the capitol right outside were pretty sweet too!

Frank N.

Yelp
The service wasn't good at all. I was seated at a table that had food crumbs all over the seats so I stood there while multiple workers walked passed me until I asked for them to clean the seats. My drinks sat on the bar for about 10 minutes until being served to me. And the food wasn't hot by the time it got to me. Food was good, but the service and the professionalism will definitely keep me from going back.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
I've been coming to Dlux for years and it consistently remains one of my top 5 burger spots in Madison. The OG is so delicious and juicy and flavorful. I also recently got Toasted Marshmallow milkshake and it was fab. Love the outdoor seating right on Capitol Square. Definitely one of my faves.

Eric F.

Yelp
Fried pickles were ok, but soggy. Bartender paid more attention to her conversation with coworker than to us customers.
google avatar

Denise Z.

Yelp
From the menu and website I imagined a totally different vibe that the hints of neon red inside the hip food spot. I enjoyed the wide variety of options on the menu - something for everyone. Our server, Rachel V. remained delightful even though the place was packed! Great service, good food. Definitely worth the stop.
google avatar

Dillon B.

Yelp
This place was really cool because it felt upscale yet casual. The service was excellent and quick. The food was mediocre. The fries were perfect, but the burger nothing spectacular. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger. The mushrooms seemed canned and I couldn't really taste the onions.
google avatar

Naquiyah C.

Yelp
Clean place with great service - we said we are having a burger to share and they cut it in half and gave us an individual wrap piece! Cheese curds were amazing!! If that's what you want then come here as it's certainly the biggest ones I've ever had. Burger and everything else was alright nothing great and hence taking one star off
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
My first time properly trying cheese curds. The burgers were great. It was very close to the state capitol building.

April F.

Yelp
Loved everything; great tasting burgers cooked as requested, scrumptious wings with flavorful sauce, and a cocktail that was mixed to perfection! Lighting was ideal, décor was fashionable and up-to-date, music was current and not too loud. Our server was polite, knowledgeable, appropriately attentive, had a strong handle on the menu and she gave advice on popular items as well as her own personal favorites. This place is a MUST visit!!
google avatar

Nibuz E.

Yelp
The thing DLUX has going for it, is its vibe. I ended up ordering two burgers (splitting with a friend so we could try two) and the boozy smores milkshake. The milkshake was ok, and the burgers hit the spot but were nothing to rave about. Overall, DLUX is a solid vibe off the square and a nice place to go if you want to catch up with friends or go as a group, but definitely is not the place I would go if I'm hankering for a top notch burger or milkshake.
google avatar

Corlie W.

Yelp
Delicious burgers and sides. Nice ambiance and interesting drink menu. A good choice for upscale casual dining in Madison!
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
Very trendy spot in the heart of Madison, near the Capitol. Parking garages nearby but being a Sunday I found close by parking on the street. Saw they had boozy shakes so we had to try them. Up all night (espresso) and s'mores shakes were stellar! So delicious I was tempted to order another. We had fried pickles for an app, they seemed like freshly pickled and not mass produced. For dinner, my friend has the black & blue smash burger and I had sharp cheddar fries & a bowl of white chicken chili. Sharp cheddar fries were so good, loved the melted cheese & crunch of green onions. Soup had a good creaminess and taste, but it came lukewarm. Looking back, I should've sent it back but didn't want to cause a fuss. Overall, I will go back and try it again. FYI-- all menu options are a la carte.
google avatar

Crystal F.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING THE BEST burgers and fries ever. Beer was so good and amazing. Jam cider and yummy tap beer. Will be back. Great service and yummy food
google avatar

Manleen R.

Yelp
My go-to restaurant in downtown Madison, located right across the street from the state capitol building. The burgers and shakes are delicious! Totally forgot to take pictures of our food but we usually get the fried pickles, cheese curds are #1 in all of Madison (must get), Hawaiian burger, and boozy shakes! The staff is always so kind and accommodating especially to large groups, too. The ambiance is great! Lots of seating, and bar seating too.
google avatar

Loren H.

Yelp
Tried the vegan burger and it was spectacular! I'm not a vegan just wanted something different and it was so good. Nice bar and good service. Try it if you haven't been there.

Chloe C.

Yelp
My friend and I ordered a burger and a Caesar salad. We both didn't like our food :/ I don't think there was anything wrong with either of them, it was just plain. Service was great, loved the atmosphere.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
This is a great place for boozy milkshakes and sliders. The atmosphere is fun and modern. I like the artwork, bar area and lighting. It is a popular place near the capital, so call for reservations or be willing to sit at the bar or window stool area.
google avatar

Shelby D.

Yelp
The atmosphere is fantastic here! The food was excellent, I got the slider flight and loved every single one. Lots of good flavor and the burger was cooked perfect. The only thing that was disappointing was our drink order. We were a table of 4 and each ordered a drink from the bar. Our food arrived before our drinks. The waitress had gone up multiple times to check in with the bartender and apologized to us but it still took about 20-25 minutes for our drinks to come.
google avatar

Livvie A.

Yelp
Few burgers are better than those at DLUX. The energy in the space makes it perfect for a date night and it is very cute. The drinks were awesome and fries were not too greasy which was great. The waiter we had was very sweet and knew every part of the menu front to back.
