Do Chay Review - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"One of the best vegan restaurants in town, Do Chay’s Vietnamese dishes, like cast-iron seared coconut rice cakes, fried tofu and tempeh lettuce wraps, and hefty black garlic-braised eggplant could make even the most zealous meathead happy. There's lots of natural light and hanging plants to create a breezy jungle atmosphere and the service is always thoughtful and friendly. Cocktails like the lime leaf collins are light and refreshing and pair perfectly with the food, but if you're not drinking, get the zero-proof turmeric spritz. Do Chay is best for lunch, especially because you don’t need a reservation like you will at dinner." - Amber Gibson

Everything at this restaurant was outstanding, and I can’t believe it was all vegetarian/vegan! We ordered Spring Rolls ($12), Daikon Cakes ($14), Coconut Rice Cakes ($13), Satay Noodles ($20), and Black Garlic Eggplant ($20). We normally don’t order that much for two people, but we had a PlantCurious coupon for $5 off any Street Food/Share Plates, which was applied to the first three dishes listed. The restaurant had their own twist on familiar Vietnamese dishes and we loved everything we ordered. The appetizers were as crisp and flavourful as their traditional non-veg counterparts, the eggplant was delicate and fragrant, and the satay noodles were perfectly incorporated with the soup and toppings. It was hard to pick favorites, but I especially loved the Coconut Rice Cakes and the Black Garlic Eggplant. We visited a bunch of veg-friendly spots in Vancouver for a trip, and this was definitely our favourite. Absolutely worth a visit!

Google
Do Chay is a solid spot for Vietnamese vegetarian food in Vancouver. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was relaxed and welcoming. For appetiser we tried the uncle hing's wings and the truffle dumplings. Both tasted good. We tried the Satay Noodles, Southern Noodles and the Prawn Curry Bowl—all of them were absolutely delicious. The Southern Noodles had a great balance of flavor and texture, and the curry bowl was rich, aromatic, and comforting without being too heavy. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for plant-based Vietnamese cuisine that doesn't compromise on flavor!

On a busy Sunday my wife and I went out to try this small but exquisite restaurant in SE Vancouver. To our surprise the Vietnamese food, which is often thought of as "blend", turned out to be full of flavor here in Do Chay. We wanted to try each and every item on the menu but were obviously too full in just three dishes. We ordered Truffle Dumplings, Satay Noodles, and Sweet n Spicy Fillet. Each dish had a very distinguished flavor. The ambiance and aesthetics of the restaurant itself wasnt quite unique. A must try Vietnamese (Vegan) restaurant.

Do Chay: A Vegetarian Feast with Bold Flavours! 🥢🌱🔥 Strolled into Do Chay for an early lunch and was immediately drawn in by the cozy, modern vibe. 🌿💫 The menu is a vegetarian dream come true, bursting with creativity and flavour. Kicked things off with their Spring Rolls—perfectly crispy and packed with fresh goodness—and the Truffle Dumplings, which were little pockets of umami heaven. 😍🥟✨ For the main, we shared the Vegan Prawn Curry, and wow, the rich, aromatic sauce paired beautifully with every bite. 🍛🦐 (Yes, vegan prawns can be that good!) The depth of flavour and spice balance was spot on. The service was equally impressive—attentive, friendly, and happy to offer recommendations. 🫶🏼 This spot is hands down one of the top vegetarian places in Vancouver! 🌎🥗 Whether you’re a dedicated plant-based foodie or just looking to switch things up, Do Chay is a must-try. Already planning my next visit to explore more of the menu! 👏🏼✨

My friend and I came to split a number of share plates and WOW! Every single dish was incredible. We were both very impressed with all of the dishes. Strong recommend! Extra impressed with the deal they had for Plant Curious members :)

A Must-Visit for Vegetarian Food Lovers! Do Chay is an absolute gem in Vancouver’s food scene. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or just someone who enjoys bold and flavorful food, this place delivers an unforgettable dining experience. The menu is creative and beautifully thought out — packed with plant-based takes on classic Vietnamese dishes. The Coconut Rice Cakes and Crispy Spring Rolls are must-tries, and the Pho is rich, aromatic, and comforting without needing any meat. Everything tastes fresh and is plated with care, showing their attention to detail. The ambiance is modern yet cozy, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. You can tell they take pride in their service. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to bring all your friends, even the non-vegetarians — because the food is just that good. Highly recommend it if you’re in Vancouver and looking for something delicious, healthy, and unique!

If you are vegetarian or a vegan, this is one of those places from where you can take your partner and make some core memories dining on some amazing food. This is a vegetarian/vegan heaven. We tried 3 different dishes and it was hard to pick the winner as every single dish was so delectable in its own way! When you are in the mood for some enjoyable asian cuisine, you have got to check this place out! The host made us feel like we were their family and the decor is also like that of a family diner with portraits of family pictures. Just an excellent experience overall. Thank you, Do Chay!

Google
Officially my new favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver (and I’m not even vegan/vegetarian). Just visited here for the first time through the “Plant Curious” discount vegan membership. This restaurant really blew us away! The food and vibe were absolutely amazing. I will be recommending this place to everyone 😛💕👀 A large majority of the menu is entirely gluten-free as well! My partner and I got: 1. Monsoon rolls 2. Coconut rice cakes 3. Crystal dumplings 4. Hahn Xeo Crepe Everything was SO DELICIOUS!

Yelp
I am no stranger to Do Chay but I am for remembering to pause and take pics of the food! It's just that good. Obviously better in house but their take out is not bad! Their vegan ish sauce is one of the best in the game! Drinkable really! My order does not change, whether ordering for 1 or a group! I stand by these items! SPRING ROLLS (Crispy spring rolls served with greens & herbs for wrapping; ish sauce). The combo of fresh, vibrant greens, paired with their fried, crispy rolls, and then dunking in the ish sauce is just incredible! My fave dish is the COCONUT RICE CAKES (Savoury cast iron seared coconut milk rice cakes, veggie ground, vegan prawns, jicama, onion, ish sauce). The dish is so unique. Delicate and very favourable. I make a cucumber sandwich with it and smoother it in the ish sauce! Perfection! You must get UNCLE HING'S WINGS (Signature crispy oyster mushroom wings tossed in our sweet and spicy sauce). Completely different than any other oyster mushroom wing. It's like they broke the mushroom down and then battered and fried. The sauce is so good, slightly spicy, and includes fried crispy ride paper, onions, and plenty of cilantro! Lastly, the SATAY NOODLES (Spicy peanut & sesame satay broth, puff tofu, lotus root, pea tips, tomato and sweet potato noodles) is ridiculously delicious. Their noodles are so chewy and the tofu and greens are always fresh. Add the crispy onions, lime, and cilantro, and we got a full dish. This is a lot of food and can easily be shared among friends! All of it is so good and flavourful. Definitely a top choice for delicious food.

Yelp
Friday eve dinner with my date. Had a reservation for 8pm. Seated immediately right across from the bar by the booth side. Most of the tables were filled with other patrons. We ordered the truffle dumplings, uncle Hings wings, and coconut rice cakes. Beers to start. Pros: - delicious vegetarian cuisine. Probably one of the best in the city so far (we've tried folke, mila) - friendly attentive service - easy to book a reservation - free parking on kingsway

Yelp
I loveeeee them. I have never been to such an amazing vegan place before. This place has the best curated menu for vegan dishes with the perfect ambience for a date night. We went there on a Friday evening and we quickly got a space. We ordered couple of dishes from their menu, but the best one was Bun Bo Hue. The whole bowl was so flavorful from mushrooms to the lemongrass broth. And you can customize the spiciness too. Trust me, I have to go back here again and again to try everything on their menu. And everyone on the staff was so friendly and welcoming! I love this place.

Yelp
Now this is how you do vegetarian and vegan meals! No wonder they made the list for Yelp's Top 25 Places to Eat in 2024!! Everything we ordered from here made us go "ummm yuuummm!" We went there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, I had gotten a reservation beforehand and I'm glad that I did because it was crowded and there was a slight wait for walk-ins. The space is not too big but it's done up in a very tasteful manner. I would say it's a good date night spot for sure! When we arrived, we were seated promptly and the servers were pretty attentive. I got the guava juice and the ice offee.. I thought the ice coffee wasn't too sweet. For food, we were so intrigued by their appies that we decided to get just those and skip the main course. :: Uncle Hing's Wings - crispy oyster mushroom with a sweet & spicy sauce. It was pretty good, but the rice crackers seemed bland. :: Truffle dumplings - soupy, garlicky, and yummy! :: Coconut rice cakes - hands down the best dish on the menu! All of us at the table couldn't get enough of it to the point that we decided to get a second round. They were super soft and would melt in your mouth! The dipping sauce really added to the flavour as well. I will definitely go back just for them! :: pan fried daikon cakes - again, the texture was soft and different. It was placed on top of an egg. We ordered some chilli oil on the side which went really well with the cakes! Honestly, thinking of my next visit there already. 5/5!

Yelp
Probably the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to. Most likely. Do Chay is the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to. My faves are the spring rolls with "ish sauce", truffle dumplings, and hing's wings! If I didn't know these were vegetarian I honestly wouldn't have known! The sauce for the spring rolls is even better than the real thing. And the dumplings .... wow... a bite of pure umami. The noodles were both super flavorful but they came out last and I was so full by then I couldn't appreciate them enough. Also pictured: papaya salad, coconut cakes(?) "eggs". super delicious. and tofu stir fry 10/10.

Yelp
I consider this place the gold standard of vegetarian Vietnamese places. I(I went to and reviewed the Yaletown location before they closed). We booked one week in advance for 6 for Friday night - it's a small space so highly recommended. Wait staff is very friendly. Mmm the food. We ordered so much to share. Everything is so so good - the mixture of flavours, and textures is incredible. Every bite has both smooth and crunchy. My favourites in particular: - the coconut cakes. Wow. Smooth filling is sooo luscious. - green beans. Spicy, the taste and crunchy texture is sooo good. - lemongrass tofu. Superb flavour and sauce. - red banana fried crispy rice dessert. This one is just incredible. We asked them how they made it so good. It's steamed and then fried. Soft and warm and crunchy on outside with tapioca. - buffalo wings - the mushrooms are really good. My son who don't usually eat mushrooms are a lot. The crunchies are also really good. We also ordered almost everything else. You really can't go wrong.

Yelp
Love their food!!! I've been to Do Chay twice and their food is always delicious. Price is a bit higher than expected but worth it. The food here is quite unique for a vegetarian place. I had the mango salad special (not on the menu) but I hope they add it as a regular item because it was absolutely delightful. Service is friendly. Our server was really nice and accommodating. He came and checked in a few times. The ambiance is quiet. It feels a bit slower but pairs well with the dining experience as you can really focus on the food. There aren't a whole lot of tables but I went closer to last call so that might've been why we were able to get a table immediately.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here. Went during lunch on Monday. It was busy because it was a holiday so I recommend making reservations. Service was quick and attentive. I think the uncle hing's wings are a must try! Made out of mushrooms and great sweet and sour flavor. Also ordered the black garlic eggplant which was delicious but didn't have a strong garlic flavor. We then ordered a southern noodle dish which I really enjoyed. Everything had great flavors! And portions were good to share. We ended up having leftovers to bring home. My reason for 4/5 is because there was an odd smell once we walked in. I have no idea what it was from. when we walked in

Yelp
Awesome to have a vietnamese restaurant that serves vegetarian food thar expands on the viet food menu. Lots of thing to try here that are not typically found in Vancouver. From the reviews before me, everyone raves about the eggplant dish and the wings. The wings were definitely the star of the show. Great flavor, great texture. The eggplant dish was lackluster. The choy sum veggies it came with were just blached with no salt or anything. I would skip it and try something else. The monsoon rolls were very refreshing but the crispy mix inside weren't very crispy. The peanut pineapple sauce was delicious. The banh xeo was disappointing as it was filled way too much with jicama and sprouts. The filling is double the amount as it normally is. The crepe itself got soggy too soon which means the veggies inside were too wet. Southern dry noodles were not bad. The sauce all went to the bottom so you should mix it every once in a while. The soup that it came with was very plain. We will definitely come back for the deep fried oyster mushrooms but maybe try other things next time.

Yelp
SPRING ROLLS ARE AMAZING AND A MUST wish there was more seating space, feel like a bunch of sardines squished together curry and spicy and sweet filets are ok ALL THE CUPS AND BOWLS ARE SO CUTE

Yelp
It is a small quaint little place. One of the best vegetarian places I have been to till date. The service is very quick. I highly recommend their rice cakes, prawns curry and truffle dumplings. It is a small place so I would recommend doing a reservation beforehand.

Yelp
This is by far the best vegan Vietnamese restaurant that I have found anywhere. We had spring rolls and fry bread for appetizers. The spring rolls were so good that they disappeared before I could remember to take a photo. The fry bread was also great, the slight tartness of the jackfruit balanced out the sweetness of the fry bread. Next up was the sweet and spicy bowl and the bun bo hue. The bowl was alright, not too sweet or spicy with a nice crispness to the veggies. The star was the bun bo hue. The broth was super flavorful, very close to the meat version that I had to keep on slurping even when I said I was full. You won't be disappointed coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
I wasn't prepared for how delicious this was! One of the best banh xeo I've ever had. Big flavours all around, which is a remarkable feat considering there's no fish sauce! A delightful surprise for this carnivore.
google avatar

Yelp
We went for Mothers Day and were really impressed with the food options. The waitresses were very attentive and the space was cozy! We started with three appies and none disappointed. The papaya salad was fresh and a bit tangy, the spring rolls were hot, delicious and crispy and the coconut rice cakes were not too coconuty and had a great texture. Softer on the top but crunchy on the bottom. Warning - also served piping hot! I wasn't super hungry so I didn't order a main but tasted the lemongrass tofu rice bowl, the satay noodles and Bún Bò Huế and all had great tastes. They were a bit more gentle in flavour than the appies but all satisfying!
google avatar

Elena R.

Yelp
We stopped by for a late lunch and had a great experience. We tried the salad rolls, house pho, Vietnamese coffee, satay noodles, and lemongrass tofu (note: the tofu was spicier than expected). This covered a wide variety of the menu options and all of it was very tasty. In particular the peanut dipping sauce with the salad rolls was amazing. The servers were very attentive, and I would definitely stop by again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Wow! I can't believe how much I enjoyed this place! A friend recommended Do Chay for our group dinner gathering and what a great recommendation for a lovely vegan / vegetarian meal! We had the papaya salad and uncle hing's wings to share. The hing's wing is made of mushrooms and was such a great take on vegan chicken wings! So crispy and flavourful. For main, I tried the Satay Noodles and it was another dish that really surprised me how delicious vegan dishes can be when done right like Do Chay! After the meal I didn't feel like I missed any meat at all and was very full! This is one meatless restaurant I would go back again on repeat!

Yelp
I am not a vegan nor a vegetarian, but took a colleague and was very impressed. The food was delicious, varied, even the desserts were very tasty. I will definitely come back.

Yelp
Do Chay is, alongside another Vancouver restaurant, one of my two favorites. Reservations are highly recommended, as this eatery sees a high volume of customers despite its modest size. During rush hours, the parking situation might be chaotic. The service we received from them was superb. The bartender and servers recommended some of the better meals on the menu. The indescribable deliciousness of their truffle dumplings. Dry noodles in the way of the South served with pho broth on the side are a knockout and a crowning achievement. Anyone traveling to Vancouver should definitely stop by. Their menu is seriously badass.

Vedant M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Ambiance is nice too with great service. It's a very cosy and warm place to be enjoying food with friends or just by yourself. All vegetarian. Defined recommended.

Yelp
Came here with friends who already dined here before. Rating is based on dine in dinner for 4: Ambiance - 4/5 - nice atmosphere whether it's a date or with friends/family Location - 3/5 - right off Kingsway and Knight on the southwest side. Parking - a challenge especially if it's during rush hour Food - a vegan or vegetarian eatery. If you're a meat eater, you're out of luck. Simple menu with appies, rice, noodle dishes. 5/5 - Banh Xeo Crepe - a crispy deep fried crepe. Slightly pricey but enough to feed 2 people. Everyone's favourite dish. 5/5 - Spring Rolls - crispy & flavourful 5/5 - Monsoon roll - flavourful filling with soft wrapping 3.5/5 - Vegan shrimp curry bowl with rice - a mild yellow curry flavour. I felt it could use slightly more curry. Lacked wow factor. 5/5 - Bun Bo Hue - vegetarian pho - flavourful broth Service - 3/5 need to make reservations online. If there's more than 6 in your party, it'll be tough getting a table tough. We came at 6 pm on a Friday night and ended up waiting an hour. FYI - quite difficult to find reservations on the day of. It takes time to get your food. Not everyone's food arrived at the same time. Servers were okay. Your patience is tested as you wait for a table as a walk-in plus waiting for your food. Hours - open 11 am to 10 pm daily.

Yelp
Came for takeout dinner time. Restaurant was packed and food took about 30minutes to make. Parking was not too bad at that time. Staff was very nice in provide recommendations. Prices were a bit above average. 8/10 Coconut Rice Cakes - creamy and soft. Coconut flavor was there. Portion very small. 8/10 Garlic Eggplant on Rice - Bit salty but better with the rice. Eggplant was cooked well 8/10 Satay Noodle - hot and flavorful broth. Noodles were prepared with bit of chewiness 7/10 Desert Island Noodles - looks like udon noodles. Was just ok. Nothing bad or good that stood out.

Yelp
Met up with a friend for a week night dinner. Do Chay looked intriguing but I was a bit skeptical since it was vegetarian. That skepticism evaporated once the first food hit the table. The papaya salad was the best I've ever had and the spring rolls were tasty and fresh. Our mains were not as good as the appetizer, but delicious nonetheless. I highly recommend giving this place a shot for vegetarians or otherwise. Most dishes were also vegan so there's options for everyone. I definitely would have stuck to just sampling the appetizers next time though.
google avatar

Kirti S.

Yelp
Good ambiance and parking available near by. Black lemonade was overhyped. Desert Island noodles and banh xeo crepe were amazing. Was not a big fan of the coconut rice cakes. The service was fast too. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
This is my new favourite restaurant. Have been here 3 times and each time it hasn't disappointed. Came here with different friends each time and they all loved it. The uncle Hing's wings are the best but this time they weren't piping hot but still good. We tried the eggplant and tofu on rice and it was delicious. Loved it! The southern dry noodle was better this time than the last time I had it. Service is good. Always refilling water. Prices are pretty expensive though for what you get. It was over $70 for 2 entrees and an appetizer with no drinks. I'd come here more often if it was cheaper . Always busy and must have a reservation. Glad it's so close to home! Winner every time.

Yelp
I've seen Do Chay in the making since it's inception. Everything on the menu is vegetarian. They're sister restaurant to Green Lemongrass (further west on Kingsway), Broken Rice (Richmond) and a second Do Chay (Yaletown). Their next door to Pallet Coffee Roasters. We've been twice, both on weekday evenings and it's always busy. Modern and hip inside with exposed brick and hipster light bulbs. Service is decent but you'll have to flag them down for refills. The menu is split into street food, share plates, rice plate and noodle bowls. Their happy hour (3:00pm to 6:00pm, 8:30pm to close) only has a couple of drink options. Sad that there's no happy hour food offerings. Trip #1 - Banh khot ($12.00) - you don't see these too often. These had a compelling bite but the flavours were very one dimensional. - Pho dac biet chay ($16.00) - the avocado went surprisingly well with the vegan pho. Adds some creaminess to the dish. Broth was light and clean. - Banh tam bi chay ($13.00) - found the desert island noodles to be a small portion but the coconut milk sauce was interesting. The dish just won't blow you away. Trip #2 - Persephone coast life lager ($6.00) and Sobieski turmeric soda ($6.00) - Daikon cakes ($11.00) - these are essentially lo bak go with an egg underneath. Worth $11? Not particularly. - Satay noodles ($16.00) - the noodles were slightly clumpy but the flavours were good. Seitan (aka. wheat gluten) had a good texture. - Bun bo hue ($16.00) - broth isn't spicy and lacks in complexity compared to other BBH's in town. However, the soy protein was very umami and the mushrooms had a great bite. - Vegan pho ($16.00) - they ran out of avocado but doubled up on the vegetables. Broth was light. - Coconut jelly - they brought out a a complimentary dessert to end our meal. Nice unexpected touch Hope they do something with the rooftop patio. While DC doesn't beat out my top Vietnamese spots in town, I'd bring my vegetarian friends here.

Yelp
Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Veg Vietnamese is hard to come by so when I heard that there was a restaurant dedicated to strictly veg/vegan Vietnamese, I knew I had to check it out! I've been twice now and can't wait to keep going back! First off, I love that you can make reservations online, no wait time is key when you're super hungry. The restaurant isn't huge in size but has around 6-7 tables for 4 and I like the decor inside. The service has also been really friendly both times and the food comes out super fast! Now for the food, I've tried a decent amount of dishes here with my favourite being the Satay Noodles (swap the rice noodles for udon noodles) and the Daikon Cakes - both are SO good! The Spring Rolls are also delicious but the portion size is a teeensy bit too small for the price in my opinion. I've also tried the Coconut Rice Cakes which a lot of people seem to enjoy but they weren't for me, and the Desert Island Noodles - I liked the broth and flavour but the veg meatballs I found to be a bit bland and dry so I wouldn't get it again. For dessert they also give complimentary coconut jelly which is nice! Overall, I can't wait to keep coming back and trying new things and I know that Satay Noodle dish will be in my daydreams for weeks to come!

Yelp
An amazing vegetarian restaurant that we didn't know we needed. We came here at around 8:30pm on a weekday evening and still had to wait about 40 minutes to get a table so would highly recommend making reservations. We got the Banh Xeo Crepe and Bun Bo Hue and was surprised how large the portion sizes are. Gather veggie alternatives they used tasted just like meat and were so so delicious! The Bun Bo Hue also had a lot of flavor and had just the right amount of spice. Would highly recommend if looking for a vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver!

Yelp
Everything was delicious! Came on a Thursday night with no reservations and we got sat very fast. We ordered: UNCLES HINGS WINGS: 10/10. So crunchy and sweet and spicy. LEMON GRASS TOFU: 10/10. Comes with rice and ish sauce that is so good when you drizzle it over. COCONUT RICE CAKES: 6/10. I think it's just not a personal favorite but the consistency and quality is very good. BLACK GARLIC EGGPLANT: 10/10. Comes with Bok Choy and tofu and rice. So saucy and delicious. The best thing we had for sure!! There were too many good options. And they give you a complimentary dessert at the end!

Yelp
Great lunch at Do Chay on Kingsway. We rarely consider Vietnamese cuisine because it isn't usually vegetarian friendly. The Daikin cake appetizer was unique an delicious The Bun Bo Hue bowl was a delicious lemongrass soup base filled with mushrooms, noodles and a variety of veggie "meats". We also tried the lemongrass tofu which was tasty. Friendly and swift service. If we were local, we'd be regulars.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner on our way through Vancouver. We had one of the best meals EVER! We sat at the bar so we got to eat watch the two chefs cook. We started with the truffle dumplings. I had the spicy peanut satay noodles. My husband had the southern style dry noodles (that soft boiled marinated egg!) and my son had the vegan pho. We loved all of the dishes so much. Fresh and flavorful. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, this is your spot, and for meat eaters, I promise you won't miss the meat! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. If I could give it 6 stars, I would

Yelp
My new favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver. We have had take out once and dined in person this afternoon. I would reorder every dish not missing meat for a second. I am not a vegan or strict vegetarian but aim for mostly plant-based. Of course in person dining the presentation is lot nicer and fried items were crispier but really most of it made the trip through DoorDash just fine after we reheated a bit in the oven. Dishes we have shared include the Uncle Hing's Wings, Coco Rice Cakes, Papaya Salad ( so good had this twice ) Jackfruit Lettuce Wrap ( today's favorite) Sweet and Spicy Bowl ( definitely getting this again) and Vegan Pho. Portions are large. We have had leftovers both times. Service was very friendly, modern covid friendly, clean decor, and there is a small patio out back if you prefer to eat outdoors.

Yelp
Great place for some vegetarian Vietnamese food. It was a long bus ride for us but worth the trip. We got the satay noodles, vermicelli with mushrooms and the rice cakes. While the satay noodles were very flavorful, the rice cakes won hands down. We loved the texture and the flavor, very unique. The Do chay tea was a refreshing cocktail but it's did not blow my mind. Great service and a very cute place, definitely worth a visit. The food is reasonably priced and their portions are pretty good.

Yelp
Interesting vegetarian take on Viennese food at Do Chay on Kingsways. We started out with: Spring Rolls $9 Banh Xeo Crepe $18 Spring Rolls seems on point. The Coconut Rice Cakes seems a bit doughy, but not sure if they're suppose to be like that. Then ordered entrees to share Vegan Prawn Curry $15 Saigon Spaghetti $15 Satay Noodles $15 The curry had nice flavor and interesting plant based prawns. The spaghetti was a bit spicy and wasn't expected. Satay Noodle and rich peanut flavor and the favorite out of the 3. A place I won't be interested in coming back again to try some other flavors.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and finally got to try a couple of their dishes. Everything was very tasty and satisfying! Satay noodles: I loved the spicy peanut broth. It was so creamy and delicious! There were a decent amount of toppings, including roasted broccoli and cauliflower. There were also 3 pieces of seitan, which are these super tasty fried bits of gluten. I probably felt like the portion for this was a little small as they were so good that I wanted more! The noodles were a yellow colour, which I didn't expect, and came all stuck together at the bottom of the bowl. However, once I added in the soup, they separated nicely and had a nice chewy texture! Monsoon wraps: the portion came with 3 rolls. The pineapple sauce was very fresh and I could really taste the pineapple. It went well with the wrap, which had a nice crunch and lots of fresh herb filling. I didn't really notice the tofu, but they were still very tasty. Surprisingly, even after sharing the noodles and having 1 salad roll each, my boyfriend and I felt full. So these are definitely a good value, and non-vegetarian eaters should not be worried! I would definitely recommend trying this place out, even if you aren't vegetarian or vegan. I really want to try the desert island noodles next!

Yelp
Walked in and there was a 1 hour wait but we noticed a patio in the back that was empty and got seated outside immediately. Great service and even better food. I loved everything here and can't wait to come back. I was so full after eating all this for 2 people. The coconut cakes don't hit as hard as real banh kot for some reason but it was my boyfriends favourite. Highly recommend coming here

Yelp
So. First bite: loved it. Subsequent bites: in love with it! I've seen recipes for vegan wings and felt iffy since mushrooms is not the same as chicken but @eatdochay did a great job with theirs! They fried it like chicken karaage - which I love and the sauce was a perfect sweet-spicy ratio I would definitely recommend giving this a try cause it's delish Since I was there during happy hour, I also ordered their Do Chay Tea. Don't be fooled by the name - it's not just tea Of course, I knew that when I ordered and even tho it has 2 oz vodka, I actually couldn't taste any alcohol I drank it down pretty quickly aaaaand felt the vodka down . I enjoyed the drink tho! It was very much needed Adding this to my Vancouver restaurants favs Recommend checking them out if you're in search of vegan meal or just want to try something tasty!

Yelp
Good atmosphere but service can be better as they weren't that attentive. The mushroom wings were our favourite and a must get! The truffle dumplings and rice cakes were really good as well. The desert island noodles didn't really have flavour so I'm not sure why it's so popular but to each their own.

Yelp
Someone recommend this fusion vegan Vietnamese place. First time in a vegan restaurant. Doesn't have much selection, but still good enough. We ordered spring roll, coconut rice cakes & Uncle Hing's Wing (Oyster mushroom) as appetizers, which all of them were very tasty. The uncle Hing's wings is really good. I ordered the Desert Island Noodles. Surprisingly it was very tasty and very good.. Service is excellent. Yes, I would recommend this place.

Yelp
Had a great lunch with an old friend from HS. We had to do some catching up as life is passing by. Going through so much similar experience connects people despite so much time has elapsed. We found we can still understand each other. Had the spring rolls, crepe and tofu with rice. All were vegan. I am not generally big on vegan as I need proteins for my exercise regiment, found the meal astonishingly filling. Service was decent considering there was only one person serving the entire restaurant. Highly recommended it.

Yelp
We drove up from Seattle and were happy to find a Vietnamese vegan restaurant. Our three dishes were all good (papaya salad, fresh rolls and black garlic eggplant). The eggplant was especially delicious and we'd absolutely order it again. Most times when we order papaya salad, it's so sweet, but this one was more savory and that was just perfect.

Yelp
I'm not a vegetarian, but enjoyed the food here. Prices are reasonable and portions are big and good for sharing. Started off with the spring rolls. It was light and crispy and not overly oily. I really liked the banh xeo crepe. It was huge and came with tons of greens. They have two noodles & soup items on their menu: vegan pho and bun bo hue. The vegan pho was pretty much vegetable noodle soup and lacked flavour. I'll stick to meat-based pho broths. I enjoyed the bun bo hue, it was a lot more flavourful. However, I came back a 2nd time and the bun bo hue broth seemed watered down. My least favourite dish was the salted egg yolk eggplant. It sounded unique and I love salted egg yolk, but this just doesn't mix well with eggplant.

Yelp
- uncle hing's wings = $13 - - vegan pho = $15 - - mushroom vermicelli = $15 - 《Chungry Rating = 9/10》 There's just something about Uncle Hing's Wings! And no, I'm not talking about how they're actually made with crispy oyster mushrooms; I'm talking about how freaking yummy they are! I can't get enough! If you've never heard, these "wings" are one of the many signature dishes from Do Chay! Do Chay Saigon is a Vietnamese restaurant highlighting the best of vegetarian dishes, with a few modern twists. Both of their locations have stunning decor. The overall theme is very rustic and simple, with subtle nods towards their Vietnamese heritage. Now, jumping into the food. While I have heard nothing but good reviews from Do Chay, I had my own hesitations about vegetarian Vietnamese food, especially their pho. Their pho broth tastes like it mainly uses mushrooms as a base. I actually thought it tasted quite interesting and enjoyed it. Their noodles, however, got quite soggy quite quickly, which isn't something I usually see when I order pho. Also, with the amount of avocado included, the creaminess of the avocado actually conflicted with the overall texture profile of the soup noodles, taking away from the usual clarity of a typical pho broth. On the other hand, I absolutely loved the wings and the mushroom vermicelli. Uncle Hing's Wings are made with oyster mushrooms, deep-fried to crispy perfection and tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. Even though they were deep-fried, I found them surprisingly light. It would be an amazing snack to have with an ice cold beer or cocktail. Their mushroom vermicelli also has oyster mushrooms in it, in addition to some wood ear fungus. Tossed in some lemongrass chili oil over a bed of vermicelli, and served with a spring roll and a side of fresh herbs and pickled carrots. Absolutely fantastic for a refreshing meal on a warm day, but to be honest, it would taste great in any type of weather. I was thoroughly impressed during my visit and I'm excited to go back and try out their menu. Their Saigon Spaghetti and coconut rice cakes look particularly enticing!

Yelp
Update: this place is still awesome. We've come here many times over the past couple years, and the food is always high-quality. Sometimes the service is a bit haphazard -- forgetting certain items, or with significant delays (both for dine-in and take-out) -- but you always can forgive it for the food quality. My only real complaint is it tends to be on the oily side -- even compared to other Vietnamese and Asian restaurants. They seem to update their menu regularly, adding / removing certain dishes, and modifying others. This latest time, we ordered way too much food, but it was all excellent: -Bahn Xeo Crepe ($18) -- I'd seen people order this a few times and finally decided to try it. Now it comes with plant-based "prawns", which are an interesting texture, and totally un-fishy (thankfully). Other than that, it's mostly bean sprouts inside. The crepe is somewhat crunchy and quite oily, but very tasty. 4.5/5 -Black Garlic Eggplant ($15) -- Perfectly cooked eggplant, with a sweet, garlicy sauce that works well over the rice. You get a bit of steamed bok choy on the side. Very good. 4.5/5 -XO Green Beans ($13) -- I'm a sucker for Asian green beans and these hit the spot. Oily, savoury, and lightly sweet, with a great garnish of garlic and fried onion, served atop crispy vermicelli. Really tasty. 5/5 -Lettuce Wrap ($14) -- this is advertised as coming with tempeh, but it only came with a few small pieces, and instead came with a lot of fried tofu, and diced veggies cooked into a swimming pool of oil. It's tasty, sure, but this one seemed too different than advertised and is just too over-the-top oily. 3.5/5 -Mushroom Vermicelli ($15) -- the best part of this dish are the little spring rolls and the garnish on top of the vermicelli. If you don't mix this in with the noodles enough, you'll be left with very plain, flavourless noodles underneath. Very tasty dish though. 4.5/5 -Papaya Salad ($13) -- done very well, seasoned perfectly, and comes with some nice bean curd skin sheet strips on top. Really good. 5/5 If you haven't tried this place, what are you waiting for?

Yelp
My introduced me to this place and I loved it! They don't take reservations, so when we arrived, the hostess told us there would be a 15-30 minute wait, and I wasn't keeping track of time, but it was definitely within that window. They just take your number and text you when a table is ready. The hostess was friendly and throughout the meal I felt that our waitress was just attentive enough, and was helpful with menu questions. The decoration of the building is really nice without being over the top and felt warm and cozy on the cold rainy day it was outside. I like that they still have dividers up where the tables are close together. My friend and I ordered the Coconut Rice Cakes and Spring Rolls to share. As a coconut fan, the rice cakes were like heaven. The middle has a creamy coconut filling, and I liked the mild sweetness of the cakes. Spring rolls had a nice crunch and flavourful filling, and were good wrapped in greens and drizzled with sauce. Lots of pickled carrots and radish(?) in the sauce which was really good, I felt like the sauce actually added something to the rolls and cakes, as well as my noodles, rather than just being an add-on that ends up covering the main flavours of the dish. For my entree, I had the Desert Island noodles. These were not quite what I was expecting but I was very happy with them! When I think of vegan meatballs I usually expect something along the lines of Beyond Meat, but this wasn't like that at all, with a more natural, slightly nutty, flavour and texture. They used a generous drizzle of coconut milk to impart a coconut flavour to the dish, and the tofu and peanut toppings added a nice crunch. There was also plenty of greens so it felt like a balanced meal. The portion sizes are large. I took one of the rice cakes and about a third of my noodles home. They finish the meal with a small complimentary coconut jelly, which I wouldn't have ordered by itself (even if it was larger) since the flavour was too weak for my taste, but it wasn't bad, and as a complimentary add-on it was a nice way to close things out.
