"The menu at this 60-plus-year-old restaurant offers variations of dishes that the owner’s great uncle once cooked for Empress Cixi of Qing Dynasty. Crispy and juicy, the deep-fried pork balls made with hind leg cuts are an absolute must-try. Pork and cabbage pickle casserole, grouper fillet in distiller’s grain sauce, and giant inch-thick scallion pancakes are also recommended. It’s located on a tree-lined boulevard and comes with large windows and walnut wood furniture." - Michelin Inspector

Original northern style Chinese food that we had when I was a child. Braised pork with baked sesame bun is really delicious. Braised pork is really tender and juiced. It is one of the best braised pork I’ve ever had. We also had walnuts baked pancake as desert. It is so delicious too.

Amazing! I ordered the shredded pork on cabbage (so good), beef and green onions (probably my favorite.. it has a slight char burned taste), the seafood dumplings, the side of carrot and garlic, and the sweet and sour soup. See pictures - they're very obvious what is what. Everything (minus the sweet and sour soup) was delicious.. actually it was probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. There was definitely a language barrier, because I ordered 2 things, and the server kept "asking anything else"? I was actually ordering the small portion size, and I was asking "am I ordering too much food?" She didn't understand, but the answer was: yes, I over-ordered way too much food. But no surprise, I finished almost everything (except the soup). It's sooo good. Wish I could have tried the scallion pancakes (you have to order that 3 days in advance.. seriously, no joke - look at the note on my menu pic) Hilarious they have a pic of the staff hugging president George Bush Sr from 1994 lol

This restaurant’s signature dishes are the fried pork balls and the pork. We didn’t make a reservation. We went there at 5 pm. It has limited time, only an hour for 2. No one came to the table order for us until we asked, that was around 15 mins past since we sat down. We ordered some snacks which they already made, but still waited for another 20 mins to have all of food we ordered on the table. The food such as pork balls and the pancake roll weren’t hot.Tasted like they cooked for a while. *Fried pork balls NT$280 (S) Crunchy, dry and cold. Quite disappointed with them. I think IKEA does meat balls better. *Sliced pork NT$280 (S) The pork was very tender and good, especially eat with the bun and the special sauce. Seemd we got the fattest part compare with other tables. *Pancake roll NT$110/ 2pc It tasted like fried dumplings but bigger. *Sesame bun NT$40/ 1pc Better eat with the sliced pork. *Red jujube cake NT$? It tasted like brown sugar cake but harder, more like a pound cake.

Don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Yes, the shredded pork is nice but that’s about it. The big bowl of noodle soup was a rather flat tasting and when I asked for chili sauce the waitress didn’t understand me. Upstairs was full (and very noisy), so they asked me to sit downstairs which is a rather depressing space with brown tiles and furniture from the 1970’s.

This place is known for their Beijing cuisine and sour cabbage hot pot. It’s simple and so tasty. Delicious comfort food, especially in winter. You can tell that years of experience have gone into the recipes and making of each dish.

First time trying Beijing cuisine. Not bad in general but not very fantastic or wow too much. I like the sour plum juice 酸梅汁, 粉皮,锅贴

The hot pot comes out with all the ingredients already in it so the shrimp and meat gets tough if you don’t eat it all right away. Also I didn’t think the soup base of the hot pot was flavorful enough. The sourness of the pickled cabbage didn’t really come through. The cold rice noodles were good but they put way too much wasabi paste in it. It would have been great without the wasabi. Three of us sat down and after less than an hour the waitresses were already trying to rush us out. I think in the span of 5 minutes we had 4 people come to us asking if we wanted to have the remainder of our food packed up to go. We still had food in our mouths and chopsticks in hand - pretty obvious we weren’t done eating yet... Overall you get lots of food for a very low price, but obviously there is a reason why it’s so cheap.

It's famous so I remarked for long and wanna get a try. I know they're closing by 2pm so I arrived by uber before 1:30pm After some communication I ordered my food. It's served quite speedy. But the waitress embarassed me by repeatedly came up telling me "we're closed already" sharp starting on 2pm In Cantonese it's背脊骨落 I know workers need to rest, but at least they can leave me here alone to just finish my food. For that price, the service is absurd. I definitely won't come again and will tell friends not to come. It's lunch and it's just 2pm!
