Yelp
Would be 5 stars but there are quite a few things they really need to resolve because it can be quite annoying and a negative experience if this were to occur past their grand opening phase. Food is amazing and the value is comparable to other KBBQ in the area, albeit still a bit pricey.
We went here on a Saturday around 1pm and the Yelp waitlist was quoted 11-26 minutes. Sure, wait times can be a bit off sometimes and understandable, but the way they operate can be a luck of the draw, and for us, we got the short end of the stick. It would be around 35 minutes if we were a party ahead, but it took us over 1 hour to get seated. This is because they seat people in batches, even though 2 tables are already cleaned up. If we just showed up at 2pm, we could have just walked in along with the other 4 parties that arrived around that time. We were just made to keep on waiting until the next batch. It was even more annoying that half the restaurant was empty, and we were inefficiently seated at a table meant for 6 people when there was a smaller table available (not that this is a bad thing, but it would be for other people that arrive later)
When we finally were seated, every chair was dirty and had a few drips of oil or sauce. I observed the employees cleaning the tables and took their time stacking the dishes and cups, but very hastily cleaned the table, neglecting the chair. Some of the cleaning solution might have gotten to the chair too. I felt that it should be opposite, to clean the table and chairs more thoroughly and worry about the dishes and cups at the back. This is just a suggestion.
We redeemed the free small combo from the email, which is worth $79+tax/tip. We thought it was too good to be true but it is true, maybe just time is money and this whole dining experience required a 4 hour block in my day, including the 45 min drive one way down to Kent. Anyways, my review assumes the full price to keep things fair.
The small combo is the mixed combo which has beef brisket, short rib, pork belly, marinated pork collar, and a few other nice surprises that I love to see - gopchang (intestine)! This came as a nice surprise because I only really see gopchang served in dedicated restaurants or as an entree in itself for the more traditional Korean restaurant. The meat quality is fairly good, and the quality was not reduced just because the combo was free. I particularly loved the marinated pork collar and the short rib, but the brisket could have a bit more fat to make it easier to put on the grill and get the cooking started. It might also would have been good to have some fat to put on the grill to add a little bit of grease, as the grill itself was not really greased thoroughly.
Additionally, the combo came with rice (which they gave generously), banchan (fish cake, bean sprouts, kimchi, broccoli, cucumber, pickled radish, and potato), along with "salad." It is in quotes because it is not even salad as there is no dressing - just straight up lettuce and onions like did they forget to include it? Banchan is free refills but a miss is that they forgot the fish cake and brought an additional kimchi instead, which we didn't really eat.
Service overall is okay, not good, not bad, which is acceptable for me. I wouldn't write this place off, but I would recommend trying it out later once they figure things out. However, if you do have the coupon, definitely just be lucky with timing the waitlist or just have a lot of time in your hands.
