"An iconic address in the city, this elegant restaurant is named after Victorian architects, John Dobson and William Parnell, who were responsible for creating the building in 1863. The menus offer plenty of choice, with the kitchen taking recognisable dishes and bringing them up to date; the fish dishes are particularly good. Do start with a pre-prandial cocktail." - Michelin Inspector

The quality of food is undeniable. The chicken was cooked to perfection, almost melting in my mouth, same for the cod. Liked the soup and enjoyed the chocolate dessert. However, I have to say that for the amount of money we paid I would expect a bit better taste wise. Portions were a bit on the small side (we went during Restaurant Week) and nothing really stood out. We sat close to the window and there was a strong light coming towards us which affected negatively the already bright ambiance. Service was exceptional and our waiter was always friendly, approachable and smiling. With that being said, if you like simple british cuisine that's well cooked this might be the place for you.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and were disappointed that their top three dishes were unavailable, the starter and two mains we wanted to order originally. They explained they had had a busy day but they were at half capacity at 8pm. Not sure if this happens often or it was a one time thing but we were rather disappointed nonetheless. The food was nice but nothing exceptional. I had the fried coley with oyster hollandaise and it was well cooked but I couldn’t really taste the oyster in the hollandaise. I had the bao bun as a starter and the bun itself was quite dense, not light and puffy as it should be. I don’t think we will go back

My daughter chose Dobson & Parnell for her 18th birthday family dinner. What a great intimate place. Just a stones throw from the busy Quayside, it's easy to miss this gem. We chose the classic 7 course taster menu. The presentation was beautiful. Each course was a delight. The serving staff explained the contents of each dish as each course was presented. It was an amazing experience. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. My daughter was given a glass of wine when staff asked whose 18th birthday it was when we arrived. We even scored for some cocktail cherries! Our children were surprised at how good they tasted. The bar overheard & sent over a plate. The sous chef visited the table, after our meal, as I had mentioned my daughter had finished her catering course at college & moving off to the lakes to start her career. He was very interested in what my daughter was saying. We also discussed the menu & our highlights. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough. It truly is a dining experience. Thank you all for a special night.

I had a lovely dining experience at this place. Absolutely amazing service, they hang your coat for you, come to ask how you enjoy your meal very often, and with a very polite and friendly attitude. The price for the set meal is affordable, and the quality of the food is totally worth it. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to go on a date or hang out with friends for a special occasion to come to this place, at least the experience I had is pretty good.

We opted for the set menu at £32 for three courses. All three were delightful. The parsnip pakoras were crisp, served on a bed of spicy green chutney. The main roast chicken was wonderfully tender and the side of maple syrup and miso roasted root vegetables was very moreish. The pistachio and blood orange sponge nicely rounded off the meal. Cocktails at £15 for two went down well. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly during the whole evening. We went for the early sitting and the restaurant was half full but it was filling up by the time we left.

Absolutely stunning venue, service and food. The attention to detail in every single dish, from the complementary bread & small taster to the main event, is absolutely flawless. Staff were attentive without being overbearing and service was quick. Cannot wait to return to try future menus.

A great meal, we had the set menu which was excellent value for money. Service was exemplary and staff were attentive but not overly so. Must come back to try the tasting menu one day.

Enjoyed every part of my 5 course tasting menu (with allll the extra cheese). They did so well accommodating my gluten free diet/coeliac disease and I didn't felt the adapted dishes were any less because of that. Gluten free bread was okay but i feel like some progress could be made in that department. That aside, everything was superb. Thank you we'll be back!
