"This corner dive gets rowdy and is a dependable place to go in the neighborhood for a pitcher of beer. As with any solid diver, there’s a pool table and a juke box. Signs posted along the back of the bar declare that no PBR is served here and include several sassy reminders to tip well." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya, Serena Dai

This place is crazy! The country music on the jukebox was rocking, the beautiful women were dancing, and the drinks were strong and tasty! This place was nonstop fun! And the craziest part.....this was like at 6pm! We had just started our evening and found our way to Doc Hollidays. It was packed to the gills. I could swear it was already peak party time at 11pm at night. But no! It was barely 6! The only bummer was that they only take cash before 9pm I think it was. So bring plenty of bills if you want to drink early. The bartenders were very nice so don't you dare short them on tips! My brother, like an idiot, gave the bartender exact cash for the first round and she took her time getting back to us with our second drink. But after I started leaving a more generous tip we found ourselves back in her good graces. My apologies for my brother ma'am. Anyways, it was a great time and we will definitely visit next time we are in New York.

INTERESTING 🧐 interesting bar that’s for sure! Not exactly sure what to make of it. Lots of rules and lots of country but also a lot of graffiti! What’s going on! I like keeping things simple and straightforward and if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to mentally prepare for the chaos you’re about to feel here. But I THANK Doc Hollidays and will leave them be!

Gregory Lafaire

Google
Classic dive. Great music. Great vibes. Pool table and big buck hunter!

John Mason

Google
Crowd is cool and there to socialize and shoot pool. Great classic country playing and bartenders have a great vibe. Younger crowd. I felt on the older side at 31. Downside is there’s a $20 minimum for plastic money. So bring cash if you’re only buying a drink or two.

Louise Anna

Google
I think this is my favourite dive bar in NY! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and they let you bring in pizza from next door.

Raag Shanker

Google
They have all these signs basically everywhere saying they don’t like entitled people. You get a different vibe in there from the staff that kinda matches what the signs say. Took forever to get a drink and the bartender was pretty rude

Ray

Google
Doc holidays used to be our friend groups favorite bar every weekend. The bartender Danielle started a while ago who is the rudest person we’ve ever met. Sucks because doc holidays used to be our go to and the rest of the staff is awesome. Especially Marvin and Johanna. The family that came in right before us left as well because of how rude she was as she told the mother she was “too old” to be out there. Not the first time Danielle has been disrespectful to others at the bar too. About 6 of our other friends have said they will never go back because of her.

Google
Loved this bar. A real ‘wipe your feet on the way out’ kinda place but the grime / grunge just works. Old fashioned jukebox, a pool table and an arcade game provide the entertainment. All rounded off by a great bartender. Worth a visit.

Louis L.

Yelp
This is a top-notch dive bar, through and through. Friendly staff, considering the vibe. What else could you possibly want from a dive bar? An escape from the shmancy places in Manhattan, you'll be surrounded by cool people, awesome signs and a down to earth vibe, strong drinks, a pool table, and country music. Why haven't you come here yet?

Dave F.

Yelp
During my brief stay in East Village, I had the delightful opportunity to rent an apartment just a stone's throw from this welcoming bar. As I was in New York City for business purposes, finding a cozy spot to unwind was a top priority. Remarkably, this bar swiftly transformed into my sanctuary away from home. It became a nightly ritual to visit, and in no time, I forged a warm camaraderie with the bar staff and security. The experience was akin to being Norm from the iconic 'Cheers' - a regular where everyone knows your name. Although my travels haven't brought me back to New York City since, this bar is definitely on my itinerary for future visits. Some might label it a dive bar, but for me, it was a place where I felt perfectly at ease.

Yelp
A good hang. There's a pool table with a waiting list. Crowd is mostly young-20s but it's a chill spot to hang. The juke plays country music only. Have fun y'all!

Jess B.

Yelp
Way crowded, good vibes though. Super enjoyed the music. Would def come back to this place if I was in the area and it wasn't too packed

Kevin E.

Yelp
I should have written this review several years ago but frankly, you find a good dive, and you sometimes don't want to let folks in on it. But the last 3 years have been tough on small bars so here goes. Staff is great, prices are decent for the LES and if your pleasant and not a jerk, they'll take care of you. Drinks are cold, and every time I'm back in town I stop in. This isn't your UES cocktail lounge, so sit back and chill - the bartender will get to you. See you in August!

John D.

Yelp
The bartenders "lost" my card and closed out my tab charging me double what i had ordered on it. They were extremely rude about this and told me it was my fault. Had to cancel my card and order a new one, this place sucks.

Amanda D.

Yelp
It's a definitely a dive bar but it costs $8 for a tiny well whiskey diet. Dive bar with regular bar prices. Not worth it.

Kate B.

Yelp
I was so happy to see that this place is still kickin it in the LES! Many good times here in the 90s! I hadn't been back until last weekend and was THRILLED it was still there. Joanna is a doll and her eyeliner is perfect!!!! thanks for the good times!

Becky D.

Yelp
This is the place to go when you're looking for a fun night out in the city. It's a country themed dive bar that's been around since the early 90s. The decor is very relaxed with plenty of seats and stools. They have a pool table in the back and a Big Buck arcade towards the front entrance. They carry Yuengling and Rolling Rock which was great. I hadn't seen those beers stocked in bars since the early 2000's. Their tap system is ice cold and their drinks have always been on point. Don't forget to bring cash and get ready to meet some amazing patrons!

Brittany L.

Yelp
Really cool dive bar - great spot to pop in for a midday beer. Really distinct from other bars we found in the city. Worth a stop for sure!

Adriannah R.

Yelp
Here for SantaCon and we weren't allowed in because we had Santa outfits one. Like WHAT?! Wack music anyway

Ginette P.

Yelp
We were in the area waiting on our rsvp & this place was the closest so we came in here to kill some time. Charminggg place u don't know if u r waking into a bar or some place u may not ever come out off .. it has quite the broken down entrance. Talk about DIVE bar to the T !! Crazy all over the place decorations don't know if or what holiday they are "celebrating" all seasons hanging! Just one thing way too many rules posted! CASH only what a pain it's a bar so it's a bit annoying & more so now a days a bit of an inconvenience to be cash only but of course there is an ATM available. No seating at first then we got lucky w a seat at the bar, ok specials but not on anything good we had some beers I had the Raging bitch good beer bitter tasting but good alcohol content my company had Long Hammer IPA good as well. This place has quite the vibe, lay back not too much going on , pool table on the side & enough TV's to catch the games. Price wise ok for the beers $7/8 the bar was not bad served its purposed for us good for grabbing drinks.

Andrew C.

Yelp
This was an accidental encounter and all my apologies to any one who might have wondered where I was late last night. Yes, this is truly a dive bar, but a good one. Some people are calling it a Texas roadhouse style bar. Call it what you want, but this was for me a wrong turn and an interesting experience. If you are a lover of country music, you might just get lucky and get what you like or just get great price drinks or beers to wash down a bad day. I need to come back at least one more time and determine if I short change my review by one star.

Esme H.

Yelp
I actually had a really nice time in this place I was waiting for a friend so we could go dance to some 80s music at the nearby pier amid club that I've always loved since I was about 20 years old I came into this bar and it was packed with a lot of 30 something-year-old's The drinks were very cheap five dollars for a beer and they were playing music which was all 80s I think the theme of the night was 1984 and it was very crowded and very alive on a Friday evening they had very cool bartenders and they were very fast I left a good tip this is a good place if you are solo because there are a lot of people there just willing to talk to you

Sarah P.

Yelp
The perfect ambiance to take a small group of friends looking for a dive bar that you don't have to squeeze into. I love dives, and this one is definitely a go-to. Sit in a bench, sip on some beer and have great conversation. You almost feel like you are slipping into a a little piece of the south. It's a small getaway from the craziness of NYC, and its awesome. Stop in for a cold beer, but as the signs all around say; don't be a dick! 5/5

Tessie V.

Yelp
This place is trash. If someone suggest you come here, you should probably understand that person dislikes you. Ok. Let me be a little more fair-- Doc's is a pure dive. It's about the only bar in the EV that hasn't been taken over by NYU transplants and Millennials Probably because it's disgusting and the barkeeps make sure to keep it that way. If you're into that-- it's the place for you. Bartenders are jerks to everyone but regulars -- but also hey that's a dive bar.

Jessie O.

Yelp
I love this bar. Texas forever. The bartenders are the sweetest people ever. My boots are here

Mike H.

Yelp
The last reviewer said it best. The bartenders here on Sat night were very rude and ignore most people who are not regulars. Once I finally got their attention, they would roll their eyes. Staff also whispers and trash talks customers on the corners of the bar. I also know of someone who had their drink drugged (roofied) here recently. That alone says to avoid this place at all cost! The majority of people who come here are alcoholics in their 60's and 70s a breath away from dying and rich folks who live in the immediate area. Drinks are also way overpriced. The only good thing left of this bar is an amzaing jukebox filled with country and oldies CDs, but not worth it due to the extremely rude staff and high drink prices. Yes, there are other nearby bars that are true dive bars and more affordable. They also have a bunch of rude signs behind the bar with a bunch of "bar rules". Lastly, the manager is a pasty skinny girl who appears to be on drugs.

Matt P.

Yelp
Perhaps the diviest of dives on the east side, which ultimately gives this place much old-school credibility. And by old-school, I mean that 90's generation, cellphone-free, EDM-less douchery. A local landmark of sorts, through and through. Salt of the earth vibes all around. Split a pitcher with your crew and feverishly scroll through some jukebox jams.

Milena H.

Yelp
Typical dive bar with some games and cowboy boots hanging from the ceiling. I was there for 90s night so I have yet to experience their country music theme. It's definitely a large group scene - good for dancing and partying it up!

Everest W.

Yelp
I'm no holy man but I guess I could call this place church. Doc's is about as good as it gets. Surprisingly it is not just the $3 twisted tea's that draw me to this gem of a watering hole. It's everything. Where to begin. Usually the night starts out praying a corner table is open. I really can't get comfortable unless I am sitting there. Sometimes it opens up quickly but if not I barter with whoever has claimed it so it is never an issue. Once that is resolved, I make my way to the bar where the twisted tea flows like Poland Spring in Poland. This is where the night starts to take off. If no one is playing Buck Hunter, you better believe I take advantage of that and win every single time because come on, I am a Buck Hunter legend and have not faced a worthy challenger. If I am feeling risky I then try and get involved with some pool, partnering up with one of the boys and trying to take down whoever holds the table. I am bit more humble with my pool game and will begrudgingly admit I have lost two games ever. In between all this my challis is filled with twisted tea while mixing in shots of Jameson. Sometimes me and the boys post up for a couple hours, other times we stay till they pull down the iron gates. No matter what, I always leave smiling and happy I chose Doc's! Amen!

Lizz B.

Yelp
Listen, I normally only write reviews to talk about how much I love a place but last night was truly horrifying. There was a platinum blonde behind the bar who literally ignored me whenever I tried to order even though I was sitting at the bar itself. She had told me I needed to keep ordering until I hit a minimum which I was planning on doing and was planning on keep my tab open ordering away, except she literally would not come back over to take any other drink orders. When I finally got to order a second drink she rolled her eyes and turned around without saying anything. Whatever, that's her right to not treat me well but I didn't want to tip on that. I drew a line through the tip place and wrote the total and signed. She came back with the receipt and a pen and said "If you aren't going to tip you have to write zero on that line" Which isn't accurate but ok I wrote 0. She then took the receipt and passed it to the other bartender who then came over and said "what do you want so we get a tip? Do you want a shot or what? What do you want?" At this point, I'm annoyed I'm being harassed and just tell them I'll tip them whatever they want, 20% would be $3 so I'll give them that or double for them to leave me alone. She keeps saying no no no what do you want what do you want and pours me a shot I said I did not want multiple times. I just wanted to finish my drink in peace and not tip on rude service. No idea what I ended up tipping since they told me I had to but I am annoyed I spent any money to get treated so poorly.

Thomas R.

Yelp
This is the best bar in New York. The jukebox gives you a high that is unmatched by any drug in the world. Would recommend for your next night out.

Brian M.

Yelp
Lovely bar and a great crowd I'm a big fan of the pool table etc and have had a few great night in here. In on Saturday night and the sourness of the 2 female bartenders made me get up and leave and I won't be going back.. I work in the industry and I felt like not tipping them. Not sure if they realise ppl can actually see them rolling their eyes etc.

Sam Z.

Yelp
Bouncer took our just purchased beverages out of our hands and spilled them out in front of us, while looking in our eyes like an asshole and smiling. Just straight up disrespectful - never going back.

Chris Z.

Yelp
I've been a dive bar guy for twenty years plus in nyc What makes dive bars awesome is usually the people watching, and interacting with the interesting people behind the bar itself. Unfortunately, the people who work at this bar may be the rudest degenerates I've ever come across. Especially for folks who work in the hospitality industry where HOW you treat people directly impacts your livelihood and repeats clients. Sadly, Doc Holidays will forever be removed from the list of dive bars my group of friends will frequent in the east village. There are plenty of other bars in the neighborhood that would gladly serve prople without yelling at patrons or treating guests like sh*!

Kevin M.

Yelp
Doc Holidays is the diviest of dives I have ever dove into. It reminds me of the Salty Spitoon in spongebob. Although it was a dive the bartenders are great and you can get a drink very easily. 5 stars because it was exactly what I was looking for on that late Friday night. Someone even offered to fight me outside after our game of pool, although I politely declined he found another willing participant as me and my friends drank the night away. See you soon Doc Holidays.

Chris U.

Yelp
First things, first: Let's put this in context. We're not putting this bar up against the bar at The St. Regis, for Christ's sake. This is the quintessential dive bar. Ugly. Sticky. Smelly. You would rather vomit in your mouth then have to do it in their scary bathroom. Yum. This is the charm, however. And if the cans of PBR don't make you think that you've sunk to a new level, the fact that they don't even bother to sacrifice valuable refrigerator space for them will (they are kept in an Igloo cooler behind the bar). As far as dives go, this is top notch and is certain to be fun after 6 PBRs . My only complaint: As its divey reputation has proliferated and the LES has gone through a slight gentrification it's now filled with a lot of yuppies and ex-fratties who go just so they can feel what it's like to slum it every once in a while. I'm a yuppie myself and, goddamn it, this is where I used to go to get away from the rest of you...oh well.

Fallopia T.

Yelp
This place is right across Tompkins from me and I've had to duck in here once to use the john. Actually, I was in here during the day a long time ago; inexplicably they had food on the menu at the time and my friend was eating this blueberry cake. Don't expect blueberry cake to be on the menu, though; this is a dive.

Camille B.

Yelp
I get bartenders need to be hard asses to deal with drunk customers, but I watched my friend get berated by a bartender because he had his card in his hand (something you do when your about to pay and want to not waste the bartenders time with getting it out of your wallet?). And it was for so long, probably 30 seconds of straight up berating, and she obviously was SO eager to take something out on somebody. She was way too happy to freak out about how disrespectful it is to wave "money" at a bartender. She went on and ON.....He really just had his card in his hand, sitting there, and was ready to order.... I was so appalled by watching her act like that I left. Going back to 169 bar where the dive bar bartenders are assholes but not in a fake, overeager way lol.

Janet G.

Yelp
During a semester or two of college, I came here every Tuesday for the $5 all you can drink beer special. I have no idea if that's still going on. I'm from Georgia--most of my NYU friends were not. They tended to be surprised when I would sing along to country songs even I didn't know I knew. Loud music, a young crowd, and a fun jukebox are the things I remember most. I went to Doc's a few days ago with friends. We just happened upon it and I requested that they feed my nostalgic dreams. It was okay. Too loud, not crowded, and I felt too bad beginning to explain all the silly and fun time I'd had there to people who hadn't been with me. So oh well. In 2001, I'd say go there for SURE. Now I can't say one way or the other, but I know it's worth checking out since it's so different from other bars in NYC. Country without being 100% gimmicky.

Nathan H.

Yelp
Doc Holiday's is a great spot to grab a drink or two or twelve. They stylishly stamp stickers all around the vibrations of great audio selections playing nostalgic music. The staff are very kind, friendly, and accommodating. They offer pool and other games to enjoy. People do dance at Doc's every once and awhile - when the mood strikes.

Alyvia P.

Yelp
I know it's cheap, and I know it's a classic dive bar, but EEK! The cowboy hats, country music (I know, I was there, I should have known what I was getting myself into). I went to meet a friend who was meeting his alcoholic booty call, but that's another story for another time. The bathroom was a dump, more-so than any dive I have ever been to. I need to reel it back though, because I know that this is the vibe they are going for. The bartenders were extremely friendly and quick on the refills, not to mention the hot bar-back with the afro (it's real we asked) and blue eyes. I took a shot of the bartender dancing on the bar, and had a few drinks, but I don't think I'll be back any time soon.

Cecilia K.

Yelp
Country music is the best and perfect to drink to! You should definitely play One Bourbon One Shot and One Beer to see the crowd go crazy!! Makeda is the best on Sundays!!!

Eliza R.

Yelp
Wish I could give this place 0 stars. My group of 4 stopped in for a quick beer, because my boyfriend said great things about the bar. But the service is terrible, and the staff is nasty. The bartender encouraged other patrons to be rude to our party because she was annoyed that we were coming in just before a private party. She examined my ID for several minutes, and questioned its legitimacy. She was taking shots with other customers while we were waiting to be served. Never in my life have I gone to a bar where the bartender was so rude for no reason. Don't waste your time here when there's so many great spots in NYC

Christian S.

Yelp
Felt like we were right at home here. Bartenders awesome. Atmosphere great. Tab even better. Most affordable drinking we have done in NYC so far. Amazing thanks y'all!

Misha T.

Yelp
Let me preface this review with a few things: 1. I came here on Christmas Day at 2pm because I needed somewhere to watch basketball. 2. When I'm home in CA during Christmas, my friends and I get really drunk and watch Tombstone featuring Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. Therefore I took the name of this bar as a sign, divine providence if you well. Anyways it's a dive/punk/western bar with good beer and nice people. I'm not a punk rocker and the folks were real accepting of me and real nice to me and when you're flying solo on Christmas that means a lot.

Ari A.

Yelp
So i previously wrote a review for Sushi Lounge claiming that Sushi Lounge used to be this divey bar that let in underage kids and their was a Western-esque theme there.... then I stumbled into Doc Hollidays. I had an epiphany. THIS is the place we used to come to underage. And look, it still exists. Dive Bar! Juke Box, Pool Table, darts, Big Buck Deer Hunter, $4 Michelob, what more could you ask for?

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this bar after a couple of cocktail bars. Wanted to switch up the scenery and this was the perfect place. Great atmosphere with a good crowd. Pool table in the back with a few arcade games scattered around. Little nooks, booths, and tables to fit groups to socialize or people watch. When I went the place was packed but still got our beers quick. Boots on the ceiling were interesting along with the many signs behind the bar. Some TVs here to catch games if you watch sports.

Erika A.

Yelp
Amazing!! Have a great time. Our bartender, Bridget, was absolutely great. She was the sweetest! Had a great time! Thank you Doc Holidays!

Lucy M.

Yelp
I don't know how I only just made it here for the first time. I came in on a Sunday around midnight and was happy to find some actual Southerners. My friend whose from down that way bonded with them and we all had a great time. There was also a regular there who was happy to tell us stories of how things in the neighborhood used to be. Bartender was friendly. Cheap booze. Pool table. Country music. Like anything else in the neighborhood I'd avoid it on a weekend but at non-peak times I couldn't ask for a nicer place that delivers exactly what it promises.

Cassie M.

Yelp
An East Village staple with fair priced drinks and wonderful bartenders. The ambiance is the main reason that I come back time and time again. Specifically, a bartender named Christina who makes me feel like I'm at home. There is a pool table, amazing music, good company and great service. Doc's is, and will continue to be, one of my favorite bars forever.

Jacquelyn G.

Yelp
This really is a hidden gem. I was at a few shops nearby and was walking around avenue A. I saw the outside of this place and knew it was a good place to grab a couple of drinks. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Makeda and felt so welcome. I stayed for a few hours enjoying good company, good drinks and good music. The juke box is a bit dated but that's what makes it perfect. A lot of the music is older which is my absolute favorite. Definitely another favorite to add to my short list.

Samantha L.

Yelp
Strolled in to Doc Holiday's after a local Tarrot card reading, it was a wednsday and the day specials was draft beer buy one get one so bring a friend and saddle up to the bar. This place has a very home like feel, the bartender was nice and knew all of her regualrs as they walked in the door. I love the witty yet truthful signs and can appreciate almost all of them. The music was also great and I can always appreciate some good elvis photos hanging on the wall.

Yan T.

Yelp
Have I never reviewed Doc Holliday's before? OK, well, you don't need to be told that most people's nights end, rather than start, at DH. The long-time dive bar has withstood the test of time (and whatever bodily fluids and other atrocities might have petrified within its wall over the years). There's a very good jukebox dispensing honky-tonk country and rock and other outlaw classics, with plenty of Johnny Cash. Beers and liquor are cheap. You won't be impressed by the beer selection unless you really miss college beers, but $3 Genny Cream Ale will keep your engine going. If you're 25 and under, this place will be heaven. For others, it's a nice stop on the whistle-wetting tour of your younger years.

Irene F.

Yelp
Out of all the bars in New York (and we all know there are a zillion) this one is hands down my all time favorite for a low key night (regardless of whether it involves heavy drinking!!!!). Between the ZZ Top on the juke box and the Pabst at the bar (which I have never purchased....something a little too freshman year frat-party about it), it's like a little piece of heaven, right on Avenue A! Of course it's a dive bar, and never pretends to be anything but a dive bar....but it succeeds so amazingly handsomelt at being just that!! Joanna is hands down the top bartender in the city (she usually works Friday nights)...I haven't ordered a drink by name in ages (read: walk in, wave hi, and ask for "something sweet and strong enough to kick my ass pretty good")!! Also, there's always the joy of dancing on the bar with Jo and the rest of the amazing crew there, or just shooting pool with the regulars. I can't wait to be back there all the time this summer!!

Pravin B.

Yelp
Extremely rude service by bartenders, I guess people let it go because the girls are so #Edgyamd what not. #stfu

Anna F.

Yelp
This was a great bar to kill some time in the afternoon. My husband and I loved the bartender Nicole! The juke box is almost exclusively classic country, so if that's not your style, you may want to go elsewhere. The drinks are cheap and a game of pool is $2. I imagine this place gets crazy at night though. Lots of fun signage throughout the bar. I'm sure we'd be regulars if we lived nearby, because we love a good dive bar!

Austin S.

Yelp
Affordable beers and a 5 star dive bar in the east village. Music is always awesome and played on a retro juke box. Always my go to in the area.
