Great candy shop that's colorful and vibrant, inside and out! Located in Clarkston, MI, this candy shop boasts a wide variety of candy and sweets! Easily seen from the roadside with lots of parking available! Family friendly with a helpful staff! Come and indulge your sweet tooth today!

Used to go here as a kid, came back as an adult years later and was disappointed. the selection is smaller, there aren’t many unique candies anymore and staff is not as knowledgeable of candies. They were kind and the store is cute but might as well order off amazon as the current experience isn’t worth the trip

Google
This place is awesome I'm an 80s baby with a 11 year old and we both loved it the selection was great they have a little of everything including bulk had some stuff on tik Tok that was hard to find! A little on the pricier side on some of there stuff but for the most part fair prices very cool store and staff was ok also they helped! Anyway you should check them out if your in clawson mi

Google
They have a great selection of vintage candies. The outside is a little sketchy-looking and the staff was off-putting. But you can find everything you need here and get in and out. They have tiny carts for kids, but the ridges on the floor make them tip over and spill everything in the carts.

Google
If you are looking for a specific type of candy, there's a very good chance it's here. From every day treats to hard to find retro confections. This place has it all. I'm super excited to buy my mom and dad the candy from their childhoods!

Google
While it is fun to visit and see candy I ate as a kid I think it is a bit pricey, I do understand there is a staff and building to pay for. The building also has a funky smell.

Google
Purchased 2 small bags of sour balls. Worst purchase. Extremely hard & obviously old & expired. Opened both bags to be sure. Clearly the bagged candies in the back bins are past their consumption date!!

Google
This place is unbelievable! The variety of candy available boggles my mind. I went looking for candy for an 80th birthday and I was so happy I made the trip. There was a HUGE selection of old fashioned and hard to find candy as well as some candy that are popular overseas. While I didn't use it, I was also impressed with their bulk candy selection and how sanitary it was.

Yelp
They claim to be Michigan's largest candy store. I always assumed that was Rau's in Frankenmuth. Since were in town to visit the latest grandchild, we can make time to find out. Hard to tell who is the actual largest. As far as quantity, this store was limited. I think the selection is larger at Rau's, The Bulk store in Taylor and Mattawan in the U.P. Personally, I was a bit underwhelmed. The candy wasn't nearly as impressive as the glass bottle pop collection. The candy lady seemed preoccupied and distant. I'm not sure why. The place wasn't very crowded at the time and we didn't require an annoying amount of attention. I feel the attraction here is the novelty candy which as you can imagine, is very pricey. Pricey is the word that best describes the place. We came, we saw, we move on. 07/24

Yelp
I've been a Clawson resident for a little over 7 years now, and I finally was able to stop by here today. I'm also a candy editor for my job, so this was like being a kid in a candy shop, no pun intended. I was specifically looking for Fruit Stripe gum, since the company decided to discontinue it. They unfortunately did not have it but they had a plethora of other pretty cool candies and chocolates. I ended up buying a few peanut butter cups that I had never seen before, a Hot Tamales candy cane for my fiance, some coconut strip things for myself, and a few other goodies. If money was no object, I also would have bought the Ted Lasso branded candies and ALL of the Golden Girls stuff, as that's one of my favorite TV shows. They had a nice selection of freeze-dried candy as well, which is a new trend, but they were a little expensive, at $7.99 per bag. The saleslady was very friendly here as well and asked if I had any questions or needed help with anything, when I was in the store. I wish I had visited here earlier in my Clawson residency, but I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great selection and variety. If you're looking for a childhood favorite or something from a trip overseas this store is worth the trip. My family usually makes a trip every November to fill our Advent Calendar. On our last trip we left the calendar at the store. The kiddos were very worried so I called and left a message. They called back and said they had found it and put it in the back room. When my husband picked it up it was bubble wrapped and in a cardboard box. Talk about going above and beyond. We have always loved this store. Now my heart will be filled with even more joy when visiting.

Yelp
What a cool find! Was going to the bakery next door and stopped in here first! Great customer service, and all the candy you can think up! Old school, new stuff...fun stuff! Bought some nostalgic items and would love to bring my little one here!

Yelp
If you like candy or sweets this is the place to be! The selection is off the charts. The prices are fair. I'm 58 years old so I remember a lot of the candy that they are selling here. There is a lot of fun novelty candy like suckers with bugs in them, rock candy on a stick, stick taffy, licorice gum, and cigar gum. There is also a huge selection of the staples such as chocolate bars, Jelly Belly's and Saunder's candy. I'm not into candy or chocolate so I purchased a meager roll of cherry candy to put in my purse. It was fun to visit this store. If I were going to throw a party for children I'd get a big pinata and stuff it with a lot of fun and cool candy from this store.

Yelp
What a fun place to visit. I felt like a "kid in the candy store". There's a huge variety of goodies from old penny candy to new fun stuff. There is no more bulk as they bag different sized amounts to grab n go w no germs from public access. Our cashier Sharon was very friendly too. I'll be going back again soon.

Yelp
Experience was horrible, took our toddler there, the lady that was at the door mean mug us, and straight up made an annoying face telling us "you know we close at 4 right?" When it was 3:45. Apparently she is a manager and her name is Wendy. We drove 45 minutes to just try out this place and we will not come again. We grabbed jelly beans and my 3 year olds were pressing the button with my help to pour them into the bags, she death starred my kids with so much attitude and as if she was disgusted by them and annoyed that they were pressing the button. Maybe because my kids are half Asian? My wife actually wanted to get out, but I wanted my kids to get their candy as they were super excited to be in a candy store. Horrible experience, I feel bad for my kids to be treated that way and that this is a store they will not be coming too again. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but this was just horrible.

Yelp
So I got my 90-year old mom a gift card for Doc Sweets and she had to whip out some cash for the overage. Took my 5-year old grandson there today and browsed the selection for almost an hour. He steered his kiddie-cart through the aisles of novelty and retro candy with his bear in the baby seat. When we tried to return the cart, the cashier asked us to leave it the register so it could be sanitized. Your favorite penny candy from your childhood might cost a quarter now, but Doc Sweets just might have it. Great staff.

Amanda P.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. But ever since they eliminated the scoop your own candy, it's just not the same for myself and my kids. Especially when all of your competitors still offer it. That's a great way to drive away business. Still a nice place, but used to be SOOO much better.

Yelp
Visited here today to get supplies for a gingerbread house- loved the selection! We purchased some standard items like candy canes and were also excited that they have old-fashioned options like lemon drops and necco wafers. The bulk bins aren't available for their usual set-up because of the pandemic so be prepared to purchase slightly different quantities than you intended (or perhaps ask the friendly staff for options).

Janneen S.

Yelp
Whatever you do, don't buy Gustafs Salted Licorice. It tastes like puke as if it's spoiled and no licorice taste. I called them to have them throw it out, or at least warn people. They won't be doing that and no refund. You've been warned.

Yelp
Secured the bag here. Glad I finally went into this place made me feel like a kid again! Clean establishment and kind staff. Above all the selection is top notch. Will be back soon.... probably after I stop by the dentist!
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
This place would make Willy Wonka proud...it'll also make your dentist RICH! I came in looking for some Ring Pops and Nerd Ropes and almost fell into a black hole of candy flavored bliss. They have more than you'd expect to find and specialize in some of the throwbacks you remember from your younger days. They have M&Ms in bulk that are all different colors and everything else from chocolate covered bugs (literally) to rock candy on a stick.

Yelp
I had a great first-time experience here. Doc Sweets has a good assortment of new and old, familiar and foreign candies to choose from. They sell novelty candy, bulk candy, individually wrapped candy. Great little store!

Yelp
This quaint store is one of my local happy places and is a must go on my Mommy's time out. Yes, I was feeling slightly guilty not bringing my four year old. They have a wide selection of candy, chocolate and specialty items. I particularly enjoyed finding hard to find old fashion candy that I ate (consumed) when growing up. The store is spacious and arranged in such a way that you don't bombarded with all the delicious sugary goodness, there's room to walk around and take it all in. I'm sure to come back here, next time I will bring my child and my husband.

Yelp
I Love This Place! The term "Kid in a candy store", well this place is where it came from! You walk in and a sense of nostalgia hits you! They have candies from when I was a kid that I haven't seen in years, like the wax pop bottles and bubble gum cigarettes! Besides some old favorites, they have new favorites. There are these toxic waste candies that are disgustingly sour, yet super addictive. They also have a nice selection of bulk candy which you can buy as a small amount for yourself or a large amount for an event. As far as prices, they are what you'd expect from a candy shop. It's not a penny candy store, that's for sure, but I feel they are reasonable. They are a small local company, you've gotta remember that! Staff are always friendly and helpful towards me. I've got no complaints on that end. Oh and they are pretty knowledgeable. If you haven't been there, CHECK IT OUT! So fun and so many memories will come flooding!

Yelp
I have been going to Doc Sweets' for almost ten years. It used to be such a great time - there was a lot of candy variety, you could scoop your own candy, and the employees seemed to be happy to chat. Nowadays, everything is pre-packaged, removing the ability to choose your own amounts and try new candy. Also, the employees seem kind of solemn. Not expecting employees to be jumping for joy or anything, but it just seemed very glum in there. And when we asked about if the option to scoop candy would ever come back, they snapped back that they would NEVER have that back because people kept dropping candy on the floor or touching it with their hands...basically explaining how it wasn't "cost effective" for them. While I can see that from a business point of view, from a customer perspective I just thought the response was pretty harsh. And it seemed like it was the manager who relayed this harsh response - very unprofessional! It was an innocent question on our part. I don't think I'll be going back.

Yelp
Doc Sweets is a fun place for adults and kids alike. OK, let's admit it -- we adults love candy just as much, if not more than the kids. They have a fun vibe going, and there are always new candies to look at and buy. Every shelf you look at, you find yourself saying "I never heard of that before," or "I remember that from when I was a kid!" They also have a great bulk section for when you need to stock up on something specific (like gumballs for your old-fashioned machine). The staff will make suggestions if you ask, and they have a wealth of information about different candies that you may be looking for. For some things, like Clove gum, they even have a list they keep for when it comes back out. While some of the stuff is a bit pricey, most of it is very affordable. It's not their fault that the manufacturers (I'm looking at you, local candy company) price their wares above what they should cost. Doc Sweets is a great place to fill your sweet tooth!

Yelp
What a fun little candy shop! They have a huge selection of all types of candy! Some include: a wall of jellybeans, retro candy, gummies, and even bulk candy (15lb bags) The staff here is super friendly and very knowledgeable about candies and are more than willing to help locate/get in a specific candy if they don't have it :)

Yelp
Enough candy to give you a mouthful of cavities and dentures! I even found some awesome Birthday Cake M&M's. Bought a few packages for my foodie girl friends and they fell in love too. They have candy with different bugs, chocolate with hot peppers, loads of bulk.

Yelp
Great selection & super friendly and helpful staff! Tons of vintage and modern candy. And lots of fun other stuff too. What a fun shop!

Yelp
I enjoy the HELL out of this place. Why? Quite simply, it's candy Disneyland. Lots of variety, and has several types of candy that I haven't seen since I was a kid. Thanks to Doc Sweets, I've been reunited with Slap Stix and Squirrel Nut Zippers. If they would only stock Big Bols, my life would be complete! I deduct one star because the holiday candy is NEVER reduced, no matter how many months have passed since that holiday. Sorry, but I shoudn't have to pay full price for Valentine's Day candy in August.

Yelp
Great place to buy bulk candy! They sell the giant bags which, to date, I got on Amazon. I haven't price-checked yet. For the retail bulk, definitely cheaper than the high mark-up you find in a mall store (e.g. Oakland Mall). If you got a thing for bulk candy, go here! Also, these guys do something I've never seen anywhere: individually wrapped scoops. You get your own scoop and turn it in for washing. I don't know if this is supposed to help those with peanut allergies or what, but for you germaphobes, you may appreciate.

Yelp
If you love candy, especially hard to find bulk or retro, this is the place to go in the area. I love stopping in candy stores, but one issue that almost always comes up is old candy- this has not been a problem for me at Doc's. They seem to have fresh stuff here. The employees are always friendly and helpful. The prices are what you would expect for a store that sells exclusively candy, higher that what you see at a grocery store but not outrageous.

Charlene S.

Yelp
This place has so much candy to choose from. I love the gummies and the variety of flavors. The have retro candy as well.
google avatar

Pete P.

Yelp
This store is a great source of old time candy and new as well for reasonable prices. They have all the different kinds laid out by type and have a very large selection of bulk candy. A really nice place to pick out some things to put in a stocking or plan a kids party. A place to return to time and time again!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome. Seriously so fun. So many varieties of candy - a lot of old school stuff, brings back lots of memories. Very clean, organized too. Great staff as well. Super helpful and nice. What a great place - will definitely be back.

Yelp
Doc Sweets is da bomb every candy you can think of made is there even the old candy's from back in the day also the staff and owner very friendly helpful and knowledgeable about the candys great place for all.

Yelp
Sometimes people don't know the impact that simple gestures have on others. I raced to Doc Sweets from work just as they were closing to get candy rocks for my son's dinosaur birthday cake. They were closing and could have turned me away, but quickly helped me get just what I needed. Again, simple, but I would have been a little devastated if I couldn't have made his 4th birthday cake just as I intended. The little things go a long way with great service! Thank you for helping me. :)

Yelp
It's disappointing how a bad customer service experience can turn a family off from visiting a store that they once loved. My kids were promised a reward for something and my husband took them to Doc Sweets a week or 2 ago. I asked him to bring me some Mary Janes. He brought me my candy and I was disappointed when they had a mildew smell to them. I'm sure the candy was ok maybe just the wrappers smelled or something funky in the bulk container it came from. Even moms get bummed when they can't have their candy so my husband said he would take it back and get me something else. The thought behind this was also to save the next person from the disappointment of getting smelly candy. My husband went back a few days later and the two woman working there (one was older and the other had a cold) denied that my candy smelled funny. It's not like it was a lot of money that we lost but just the fact that they denied it (we both smelled it) and didn't offer anything in exchange. Would some candy that smells like mildew stop me from going to Doc Sweets or prompt me to write a bad review? No, I understand that these things happen. Would bad customer service stop me from going back? You betcha! Sad that my kids won't be going back there. They love the little shopping carts and the whole experience.

Yelp
I go here every time I need specialty candy for parties, valentines, Halloween. I also stop by for Mallow Cup fixes and Freshen Up gum. I love my old school candy!!!

Tom P.

Yelp
Guy working the store is a fat grumpy tool. Lots of stuff here. Prices are high especially on local brand you can buy at said brands own shop in Grosse Pointe. Would be a good store if not for mr grumpyfat at the cash.

Shannie M.

Yelp
I was in recently to purchase a giftcard for a birthday party. I was "helped" by a man named Garry. He was rude, inconsiderate, made us late for our party and didn't know how to ring up a giftcard. An unfortunate experience.

Carrie A.

Yelp
Cool place on Rochester Road just north of 14 Mile Road. Has all kinds of old school candy that you don't see in stores. Bonus.....they sell bags of vanilla tootsie rolls which are my absolute favorite!
