On the Grid : Mr Mesero

"Mr Mesero is the first reboot concept by Mico Rodriguez, author of the (very successful) M Crowd / Mi Cocina franchise. While the execution is familiar, it's different for all the right reasons. Mr Mesero has great service and is a fresh, young, fun experience with darn good eats. Mr Mesero's small space preserves a cozy energy for a crowd that is less Park Cities family and more Uptown fringe. Go there. Lock in your margarita order and then enjoy anything on the tex mex + american standards hybrid menu." - Switch

Overall, I enjoyed the food here but felt that it was overpriced for what you got. We started off with chips, salsas, and queso. The chips are of high quality and I found the salsa and queso quite enjoyable. We got margaritas (Classic and a mambo). The mambo was good but I felt that the classic was much better. For the entrees, we got the al pastor tacos and the blancas enchiladas. The flavor was well done on both plates and I would get them both again. Sitting on the patio is great on a nice day and the service was overall fine with no issues.

Google
We came here for a friend’s bday dinner with a big group and we had such a good time! The bday celebration from the servers was epic and full of energy. Our server was super sweet and on top of everything all night I got the Number 5 on the menu and a mojito, both so good! The mojito was super refreshing and the food was flavorful and really filling. Definitely coming back for another night out

Google
WOW - this food was truly amazing and authentic! I enjoyed the aesthetic, particularly the outdoor covered seating. It had Miami vibes with the music playing. We got complimentary chips and salsa to start, delicious. We ordered the recommended queso & guacamole as well. The guac was unbelievable and the queso was quite delicious too, although I could pass on that next time, especially since it was $18. I ordered the fish of the day with rice and veggies and WOW it was just delicious. Even the rice was perfect. My friend enjoyed her margarita & fajitas & I opted for an alcohol free strawberry water & it was tasty. The servers are busy so they don’t make you feel special by any means but that was fine, as we weren’t needing to be doted on. We arrived at 5:30 and had no issue with getting a table for two, but it started to get quite crowded and around 7 there were a lot of people waiting. I went inside to use the restroom and wouldn’t have enjoyed the experience as much if we had been sitting inside.

Google
Very loud and packed. Drinks all you can taste is the liquor no flavor. Chips and gauc needed salt badly. Fast service. Amazing pineapple chicken al pastor taco.

Google
Decent dining experience, but nothing particularly stands out. The food is just okay—nothing bad, but not memorable either. Prices are reasonable, which helps balance things out. However, the restroom is incredibly tiny, which was a bit of an inconvenience. Overall, it’s a 3/5 experience—fine for a casual meal, but don’t expect anything extraordinary. Music too loud for lunch, terrible logo.

Adrian

Google
Good, attentive service and Tex-Mex style food. Prices are reasonable, and the frozen margaritas are great.

Google
This place is a Dallas staple for us. The vibes are always high and the service is always good. The food is also incredible. There’s usually a wait to get seated, but you can order drinks at the bar while you wait. My go to meal is the enchiladas (one Blanca and one Verdes). It’s incredible! My friend did try the Mole (pictured) enchilada and their review was it was kind of too sweet. We also always get the guacamole - non negotiable. We also tried the Tres Leches and it was so so good! Highly recommend!

Google
Second visit today because I was so blown away by my first visit, that I decided for my birthday I would come back. The first visit was an excellent experience. Today.. I was so disappointed. We sat at the bar this time. The drinks were subpar in comparison, weak, water down. The bartender was not attentive at all. Our chips and drinks ran out and I stared ( see pics) of all the staff that had time to stand around but not service. I don’t normally say anything but I was so disappointed. The bartender that took care of us was nice, peppy just not present at all. No one was ever rude by any means but the service sucked. Literally last time I came here it was amazing, they even boxed my leftovers and before I asked… this time the bartender kind of threw the box out in front of us… and said here.. It was an extremely different experience, so maybe this is just a one off. The red fish tacos were excellent the food is great. I would suggest you not sit at the bar.

Yelp
Had to have a phone fixed at the Apple Store and it was going to take longer than we anticipated so decided to get a bite. Walked around on McKinney and decided on Doce Mesas and so glad we stopped in. Everything was amazing. The margaritas the chips and dips, the food and omg the tres leches cake was to DIE for! We will be back again soon, worth a return trip, heck worth many return trips. Go, you can thank me later.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place after husband did Yelp search - he wanted Mexican for lunch. Tucked away on a busy corner we ate outside since temperature inside was a little too cold for us. The outside dining was great even though it was warm. We enjoyed the sunny day and breeze We were greeted and seated immediately and our server came over immediately. Chips and salsa appeared and these were yummy. Server gave us information on the catch of the day for the fish tacos- my favorite to order. COD was the catch and I was all in for the tempura kind of cooking. Husband got the brisket tacos. The portion sizes were really good. 2 tacos per order but they were large Brisket was well seasoned and tender. My fish tacos were really good with roasted corn and tomato. Both dishes came with rice and slaw. Would go back again and try some of the other items on the menu.

Yelp
fast and friendly service. Hubby enjoyed his chicken Molay enchilada, but I did not enjoy my crispy chicken sandwich as it was way too spicy. Plus, it said it was served with bread and butter pickles and instead I got sour dill. French fries were kind of mealy probably won't be back for a while

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have frequented Doce Mesas often over the last several years. As of recent, I'm shocked by how they treat their customers and the quality of their food. I ordered the Chin Chin salad and there was multiple pieces of raw chicken within the meal. I expressed my concern to our waiter, and was met with extreme opposition. It quickly became a hostile environment, and as a single female dining on her own, extremely uncomfortable. Despite the raw chicken, my meal was not comped or offered to be swapped for something else. I'm sad to say, but I don't think I can ever dine here again after this experience. Customers, and specifically women, beware.

Yelp
Very solid mexican food and strong cocktails at this Knox / Henderson gem. The chips and salsa were fresh, and the enchiladas were filling and flavorful. We especially enjoyed the mole sauce; it was delightful and had strong notes of chocolate. Service is quick and servers are attentive; the entire restaurant is essentially one big room so it's hard to get forgotten about. Loved the intimate and airy space; their patio was in full use and would be a great spot for happy hour.

Yelp
Ambiance, staff, cleanliness & food 10/10. Thelma was our server and she was amazing. Helpful for recommendations & very attentive. Texas has very very limited good true Mexican food and this is a great upscale Mexican restaurant. We got the carne asada nachos, carnita tacos & verde pollo enchilladas. Everything was delicious. Their verde sauce is an absolute must!!! It came with green rice & black beans (which they are great with switching out sides) The asada was perfectly cooked tender. Fresh ingredients. 2nd time visiting this place, will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food is tasty and well priced. service is always great. Love coming here! Must try: La bandera, mango Margarita, # 2 & guacamole!

Yelp
Had a great Sunday afternoon; seated out on the patio Great setting...I would most definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Small, quaint little restaurant off Knox. Th e margaritas are delicious and food is great, healthy, Mexican/american options. There is a nice patio for a good day off katy trail. I'd assume it gets pretty packed here on weekend nights so may need a reservation.

Yelp
Delish! The food was so food and the service was exceptional. I saw my fav TikTok Dallas food girlie here too
google avatar

Yelp
The service was very good, as soon as we walked in we were seated, we chose to sit on the patio. Once we were seated, our waitress came and took our drink orders as well as brought us water and chips and salsa to the table. I appreciated the 2 different types of salsa. One was a red salsa that didn't look spicy, but it had a little kick, and there was also a chipotle salsa, it was very fresh. I ordered the sangria Roja to drink, it was very tasty, not too sweet, and I liked that it had brandy in it. I got pescado al ajillo, fish was cooked perfectly, the veggies were fresh, my carrots could have been good a little longer but overall very good. My daughter got the burger, nice size for the price. I would definitely come again.

Yelp
Doce Mesas is so beautiful and the food is so delicious! I personally enjoyed the dad's brisket tacos - the tomatillo sauce is great if you like a mild salsa. The pollo adobado sopes were a hit with our group and perfect for sharing. The drinks were equally as great and both desserts were the perfect amount of sweetness to end our dinner (pastel de leches and flan). Lastly, the service was great- our server was so knowledgeable! If you're in the Knox area, give Doce Mesas a try!

Matthew M.

Yelp
Food is pretty good. Service is horrendous. Try placing a to go order. Can't do it online, so have to call. If their phone is even working, they will put you on hold then just hang up. Try calling back, no answer or the line is busy. The above has happened about 3-4 times for me now. Shame on me I guess.

Scott W.

Yelp
We waited for 30 minutes as we saw people get seated around us. Eventually I asked if we'd offended someone. The answer was no but we left without being seated. Possibly only seating for the right people? I left feeling like we were not wanted. Terrible experience overall.

Yelp
Lovely is Doce Mesas. Sophisticated cozy white. Seamless connection of being seated in or out. A private club vibe with many loyal customers. Impeccable lunch service. Heavenly Mango Aqua Fresca. Delicious Chips and Salsas. Under seasoned Guacamole and Shrimp Lettuce Tacos. Just as fitting with being casually dressed or to the nines. An inviting spot I'll be back many times over for lingering chats, sips, and, nibbles. CHEERS!

Yelp
This place is very popular and I can see why - the decor is trendy, the food menu is varied, and it's in a great location. We came on a Saturday around noon. It was packed, but our server was attentive and our food came out at a good pace. We shared the guacamole for an appetizer - that is seriously some of the best guac I've ever had. Two of us also had their house margarita on the rocks - it is DELICIOUS. It's close to being competition for the restaurant that has my favorite margarita of all time. And trust me, that is a high bar. For entrees, a friend and I shared the Chin-Chin salad and Pollo Al Pastor tacos. They were kind enough to accommodate my slight pineapple allergy by putting them on the side. The Chin-Chin salad was incredible. The tacos were good too. Another friend got the Taco Salad and said it was good as well. The area is pretty busy so parking can be difficult, but they do offer valet. Overall, a great experience here. They don't currently take reservations and keep in mind that it's very popular, so you might have to wait for a table, but I think it's worth it.

Yelp
This is my go-to neighborhood spot for Mexican food. The waitstaff is lovely and the restaurant itself is great for when the weather is nice. They open all the doors so every seat is a good one. The food and drinks are typical of a Mexican menu but more elevated. I can never leave without having at least one King Mambo margarita.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try this place (very close to home). We are in the 58-62 age range, and while this place is very spacious with plenty of seating, clean, and trendy.... I, personally don't care for that when I visit a restaurant. I also don't like the chairs - they are not comfortable for sitting at the table and eating (they are better to lounge in). PLEASE get some better chairs! The vibe and music is a little too night-club-ish for my taste, but it has a nice bar sitting area so I guess the younger crowd would like this. The food was quite good and tasty - I wish they served their salsas in large dishes rather than those tiny square condiment dishes. The chips are thick and commercial-tasting and not authentically thin and crispy (I've had better at Uncle Julio's). My husband's mole enchiladas were terrific (according to him), and my carnitas taco was great! The light cabbage slaw was great, too. I didn't care for my cheese enchilada with chili topping (waaay too salty!). Rice was meh. Staff was not very warm and welcoming - fitting for that night-club vibe. Overall, it was an ok experience, but I wouldn't want to sit inside again due to the sterile, clubbish ambiance... I'd prefer to sit outside in their garden area (maybe next time).

Juliette C.

Yelp
I don't normally write reviews for restaurants, but this one was an exception. The enchiladas were amazing and had a "home-style" feel to it. The rice and beans were good too, nothing special. But overall, the combination of these 3 made it an awesome dinner. The service was also good. Was a little busy when I went at 7 on a Sunday, but my server stayed attentive. Would go again.
google avatar

Anna Grace M.

Yelp
I came here for cinco de mayo and the line to get in was crazy (as expected). BUT you could go get drinks from the bar and bring them outside while you wait. This place is fairly small but it's very much worth the wait! The chips and salsa are super fresh and the food was very good. Service was even good considering how swamped they were. They do valet parking

Sarah A.

Yelp
Love Doce Mesas and their staff! Best shrimp tacos and El Director margaritas! Will never turn down a chance to dine here!
google avatar

Shanon F.

Yelp
I live in the area and have been to this restaurant multiple times with my BF. We both love it and really enjoy the roasted chicken dishes - I think "Double J" is our favorite. It's pretty healthy and the vegetables are fresh and roasted perfectly. We are hopeful this place will continue to succeed and expand its space! This would way better on the corner in place of Chuys (which is God awful).
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is okay. It seems like a knock off version of Masero across the highway. The ambiance is upscale and a bit yuppy hipster. Very loud environment, with lots of families. The service was very prompt and attentive. The Chips & Salsa are good, vey thick chips if you like that. The Queso was VERY thick, in a good way. Delicious Queso, but again Masero's is better. I had the Chicken Enchiladas with Sour Cream; they were good, but nothing to write home about. The same can be said for the Brisket Taco & Chicken Enchiladas with Molé Sauce. Bordered on 3-4 , but the similarities with Masero's, which I rate at 4 made me lean to the 3 rating here. With all the other great Mexican options in the area, I won't likely be going back.

Ian M.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance and service. The chips and guac were great and the drinks were great as well.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
The service was excellent and the food was delish. The way they serve the guacamole was cute...they put all the ingredients on a plate and you mix it as you wish. The chips were crunchy and not greasy or overly salty. We had the mole and pozole, I also had 2 bean tostadas and they weee $9 EACH. That would be the one negative , they charge for everything so be careful when asking for extras. Great patio seating.
google avatar

Remy V.

Yelp
Food is bland. That's why this is the rating I gave them. Cute place. Nice area. Staff was friendly. My drink was the best thing I had. The nachos only came with 4 and the meat should've been chopped up and not so tough. The brisket on my tacos was over cooked as well. It didn't taste seasoned at all. Even the salsa they brought out for the chips and salsa had barely any flavor. How do you mess up chips and salsa?! That's WILD. I ordered shrimp tacos and the shrimp was overly charred so they took them back and gave us white fish tacos which tasted a little bit better, but again lacked flavor. I added salsa verde to damn near EVERYTHING just hoping it would elevate the taste. It's a no for me.
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised- this place is so good! Everything we had was great and the margaritas are packed with a punch so be prepared :). We had the guacamole with serrano salsa and honeydew salsa on the side. Honey dew salsa was fire roasted and had a sweet flavor that mixed so well with the guacamole. We had it on the side because we have a 6 year old who can't eat spicy food. Brisket and carnitas tacos were really juicy, tender and full of flavor. Patio is very cute but if you are in the mood for air conditioning sitting inside is pretty too. Lots of windows so whether you are inside or out you will enjoy your view.
google avatar

Caroline A.

Yelp
I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars solely based off the staff and how nice/welcoming they were. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taking care of. There was a little bit of a wait because we didn't want to sit outside (100+ degrees) which was fine. Restaurant is kinda small and as soon as you walk in you're in the kitchen/bar area, interesting set up. Now for the food.... Everything we ordered was bland. Everything needed seasoning at least salt.
google avatar

Gigi L.

Yelp
Always love this place, it's my moms very favorite! Always great service, lovely waiters and good food! Sometimes the food feels like it changes a bit but still good. I do wish the verde enchiladas had another a taste to mix with the verde sauce because the sauce taste got boring very quick. Maybe needed more cheese or things inside it or something but it was still good!

Kate G.

Yelp
Amazing service, food was UNREAL (shrimp tacos), and the patio is a Dallas classic to me. Love it Doce Mesas!!!!

Falyn R.

Yelp
Worst food poisoning of my life! Food was great when eating it. Myself and the person I dined with are both experiencing miserable symptoms of food poisoning.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Great local stop. Food and Service was very nice. Appreciated Ivana's service all evening. We walked from our hotel and had a short wait before being seated. No reservations are permitted and there is no bar area to hang out in. But note the waiting area and signing up for a table is a little confusing and hard to navigate. Didnt have a list, just a line at the door, and one gentleman running around matching wait listers to open tables. We were able to order Margaritas while waiting (definitely a plus). For Starters, their Chips and Salsa were tasty and but recommend their Queso (w/ spinach) as it was a delight. The combination plates are the way to go(#4 was brisket taco and enchilada verdes), but we also tried the Fish Special, the Chile Relleno Camaron and the Enchilada Verdes. All were incredible. If you are a brisket fan, definitely order the Brisket taco - as it was mouth watering. The Chile Rellano had a nice kick to it. Ivana kept the margaritas flowing all night and provided recommendations for the fish special and the Chile Rellano. Thanks again and look forward to coming back in summer when the porch/patio is open.

Yelp
Great atmosphere the drinks and food are top tier. Staff if welcoming and nice . I had queso and frozen margarita

Yelp
I am a regular and if I could give Doce Mesas 6 stars I would. Employees and management go above and beyond to make all feel welcome and taken care of. Will be going here forever!

Yelp
Good meal and good service. Also lots of security presence in the parking lot. Will be back

Yelp
Enjoyed popping in for a midday lunch service. Tacos were delicious. Enjoyed a "mico" marg as well. Fast service for lunch hour.

Yelp
Good food and good service. The place was packed but we got a table on the outside. Would go back.

Yelp
Came here on a busy Saturday evening and waited about 35 minutes for a table of 4. The inside is pretty small but they have patio seating. They have unlimited chips and salsa, but the Appetizers are certainly worth it. Highly recommend the chips and queso cuz it's worth the price! The #4 brisket taco and enchiladas were flavorful and portions are good. This place is worth the try!

Beatty C.

Yelp
best mojito and atmosphere!! Love their chicken tacos, great service and great outdoor seating
google avatar

Chris Y.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal. Excellent service and the food was artisan and plentiful. Four of us split street tacos. So good.
google avatar

Amy U.

Yelp
My friends and I visited Doce Mesas' location off McKinney Ave and had such a good time. The food was really good. We all got some variation of the tacos. And the Pastel De Leche dessert cake was phenomenal! Service was on point! The waitress was so knowledgeable about the menu and helped us pick out really good items since we were first timers. We met a manager who came by to thank us for stopping in. He was super nice and accommodating. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Brian ..

Yelp
A very good and reliable light and airy space that's reminds me of being on vacation.. breezy with great cocktails fresh ingredients and salads to satisfy those who are health conscious. I love their chin chin salad with mixed lettuce grilled chicken jicama roasted corn and the best peanut ginger dressing. See pic. Excellent margaritas. Flavorful Ice tea and all your Tex Mex favorites. Fresh and not overly heavy. I'm a fan
google avatar

Isaias M.

Yelp
If you're Mexican do not come here... This place was a sorry excuse for a mexican restaurant. The only good thing here was me leaving this place. The food was horrible, it was bland and one of the the enchiladas literally looked and tasted exactly like a chili dog... probably because it did have chili on it. And one of the tacos was straight flavorless ground beef, shredded cheese, and lettuce... aka a basic ass taco that white people make. Never again.
google avatar

freddy t.

Yelp
I just come here for the "Cincuenta Y Siete" drink. (57 in spanish) Food is good. everything on the menu is ok. Ive been here for two meetings and we all liked it. Ill bring the fam and see what they say. Definitely gotta try it.
google avatar

Gloria S.

Yelp
During my visit I ordered the Pollo al Pastor as my waiter Hector recommended it. The flavor was delicious with chunks of pineapple and mango in the mix. The green salsa was the perfect amount of heat. I went a little after the lunch rush and was seated immediately. I will definitely be back to this little hole in the wall.
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
Unbelievable. There were only two of us in the whole place at separate tables. I sat down and waited for a while and finally got my drink order by getting up and stopping up front where the staff was talking. Then I came back and still no menu. They had dropped off a small bowl of chips and salsa. I ate that, still no menu. I got up andwent up front and he said, "Oh are you ready to order?" I said, "no, i do not know what all you serve and you have not brought me a menu." He brought me a menu. Then a guy came in in a suit waving his arms, speaking loudly and addressing the staff rudely. I waited and "The Suit" decided to call a meeting of all the staff behind the cash register bar. Again waiving his arms and speaking spanish. I do not speak the language so not sure what his problem was but two guys went and got a ladder and reached into ceiling racks and got down a bottle of liquor and returned to the "meeting'. I still had not gotten to place my order so I put $6 dollars on the table (VERY FAIR for 15 chips and a diet coke) and I walked out. On the veranda a guy that was with the owner (the Suit") when he came in said, how did you like the food? I told him the story and he said, hey stay, I will get you served. I said, "No the 'SUIT' is very loud, threatening, and max rude. I do not want to say ANYTHING as he may take it out on the staff. He tried to get me to stay but I refused and went across the street where Chipotle had just opened. This was absolutely the most rude, bizarre and ugly exhibition by an owner/staff that I have witnessed in my 40 years of travel.

J B.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Wonderful food, fun atmosphere & great service. We can't wait to go back. There is free 2 hour parking across the street. Just scan the QR code at the entrance.

Yelp
Cinco leches cake is the bomb.com! We haven't eaten here but we picked up this cake for a birthday dinner. I should have taken a pic before but didn't get a chance to. Recommend 10/10

Marli N.

Yelp
Queso is soooo good. Service was great. Very clean place. Great atmosphere. 10/10 go here
