Looking Inside the Most Exciting Lakeside Dining of the Season - Eater Twin Cities

"Restaurateur Matty O’Reilly and chef JD Fratzke have restaurants operating all over the Twin Cities. Spring Cafe is the optimistically named restaurant that opened the same weekend an historic blizzard struck the Twin Cities. It’s located in the Como Lakeside Pavillion with year-round facilities and seating that overlooks the still-freezing cold water. The restaurant serves a menu that’s a mix of portable sandwiches and salads with sit down options like nachos, brisket or walleye dinners and a selection of desserts. Spring Cafe also has a full bar with $10 cocktails. The cafe space inside the Como Lakeside Pavillion underwent a major renovation in 2015." - Joy Summers

Como Pavillion’s New Restaurant Could Open this Spring - Eater Twin Cities

"Spring Cafe is a new project by restauranteur Matty O’Reilly, located in the historic Como Park Pavillion on Como Lake. The cafe is set to open in April 2018 and will operate from lunch through dinner every day during spring through fall, with limited winter hours for weekend brunch. The space is being remodeled to create a more family-friendly environment while still offering beer, wine, and some batched drinks." - Joy Summers

Not sure what the people that give the place low food ratings are expecting - it's a Lancer Group facility, so it's a food service level food with captive audience pricing place. So in that regard, it's decent food. Fish tacos are good, as is the barbecue jackfruit sandwich. The vibe is very relaxed if there isn't an event going on and grabbing a seat in the pavilion is easy. To be honest, you're coming for the views and the space, not the food. So grab a couple tacos to split with someone, grab a seat out on the pavilion and just enjoy the views and the breeze.

SKIP THE FOOD! Fish and chips: came out lukewarm, 3 strips of fish and chewy fries for $18!? Al pastor sandwich: came out cold. Asked for a redo: both items came lukewarm. We witnessed several other customers having bad experiences as well. We will not be back.

Premium pricing abysmal quality. Came here for lunch. We got the Bean Burger and Fish and chips. We live in the area and we have been meaning to visit for a while when we had the chance for a lunch date with my husband. We were so disappointed. First THE BEAN BURGER is flavorless they put avocado and some fancy pickled onions but it didn't do justice to it. How can you mess up a burger? Secondly my husband ordered the Fish n Chips, the fish was way overcooked and our fries were saggy. Clearly frozen. For the owners: please taste your own food and do product tasting. Remember you are also carrying the reputation of our lake como area. Be better.

The chicken items on the menu are awesome! Whatever seasoning they use makes it incredible good. The chips are better than French fries in my opinion because they’re handmade. The seating outside is great and the lake is just nice to look at, especially on warm days.

It’s really underperforming. Been here a lot and sadly every time the food takes forever and is lackluster. Well below mid. They need to get rid of the pagers and be up front about the half hour it takes to make a small strawberry salad that comes looking like there is a shortage of all the ingredients that make it taste good. 🙄. Same with the tacos and the nachos appetizer. Ugh. Went on a music in the park night and it took so long that we missed most of the music. Ugh.

We stopped for dinner at the Spring Cafe prior to enjoying a fabulous and free Kenwood Symphony concert. Great summertime music was enjoyed by a fairly large crowd. The food was good and flavorful, with spice, depending on your menu choice. There weren't a lot of items to choose from, but everyone in my group seemed to really enjoy the hummus. They serve alcoholic drinks, beer and wine as well. The interior needs updating, but the view of the waterfalls across the street is always nice to look at.

A quaint Cafe and Bar right in the heart of Como park. The menu is small but focused on fresh, high quality offerings with lots of health-conscious options. The tap list and spirit selection is impressive, as are the seating options. There is a huge outdoor patio overlooking the lake perfect for warmer weather, or two floors of indoor seating. A large meeting space makes up the third floor. Service is friendly but not particularly fast, so give yourself time to relax and enjoy a meal or drink.

The service was good and the entertainment was great. But honestly, even with the new menu, the food was uninspired. Nachos, waffle fries, black bean burger- I would not order any of it again. Also we left a beloved water bottle there and tried three times to contact someone- no call backs.
