The 21 Best Restaurants On Martha’s Vineyard - Martha's Vineyard - The Infatuation

"Despite the name, you’re not here for the coffee—you’re here for everything coming off the sizzling flat top griddle. Dock Street is a chrome-stools-only, straight-rail diner where you half expect Captain Quint to slide in next to you and order himself a linguiça, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. The flat top is always cranking, and the breakfast sandwiches—or anything with the aforementioned linguiça—are exactly what you need the morning after one too many at the nearby Wharf Pub. It’s walk-in-only, cash-preferred, and all the better for it. If you manage to snag a stool, mind your elbows, and soak in the old-school Vineyard charm." - morgen schroeder, tanya edwards

Full disclosure, we love DSCS. Very consistent small diner food, breakfast and lunch. Good eggs, great Monte Cristo, great bacon, hash from a can (brings back fond childhood memories), excellent burgers and hot dogs (get there early-closes at 1:30), yummy sausage links, all served by real island folks with interesting stories. On the pricey side for sure, but it’s just off the harbor and, hey, it’s vineyard tax compliant - everything here is basically a king’s ransom. Very limited seating, but well worth it for the Dock Street Experience!

Google
Later light breakfast was the goal and DSCS did not disappoint. As the pickiest customer there is, i ordered a egg, cheese and ham on an english muffin... BAM... out of the park!!! Home fries were okay, but very hot and the coffee did not disappoint. Seating is limited to maybe 12-15 (didnt really count) so you might wait or have to accept take out...but do not miss this gem!!!

Google
Simply the best breakfast spot on the Vineyard! I go every year and have never regretted it. The workers are so nice and it is in general a great experience.

Christian Pressley

Google
Awesome diner with good food and great people. The staff was very friendly and seemed like they genuinely loved what they did. Especially the very energetic and seemingly in charge woman that was directing the rest of staff while she cooked. It was an enjoyable atmosphere with very reasonable prices. I had the French toast and bacon. It was more food than I expected. I left very satisfied. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Google
French toast NOT frenching 🤣 no flavor AT ALL. Tastes like bread and eggs literally 😩. Bread Eggs Milk (missing) Nutmeg Cinnamon Vanilla Extract Powdered sugar

Great service and good food! I didn’t know they only accept cash and I don’t have any cash with me but Mary is so nice, she said I can mail them a check after I go back Palm Beach or come back other days to pay back the bill. Oh god, it’s my first time didn’t pay my food lol. Nice people everywhere so I gave her a big hug and lots of thanks!

Google
This independent family-run business has been one of my regular stops at least once every time I am visiting Martha's Vineyard. The food is nourishing and tasty, the service friendly and fast. Every time I have been eating there, there have been other people who have come in the door and been welcomed by name, asked if they want the usual or a specific alternative, and so on. It is a place like the bar in Cheers, "where everyone knows your name." I love that about it.

Google
Great place. No frills. Foods excellent.

Yelp
Looking for breakfast looking for a fun place to eat instead of some fancy imase five star restaurant in Edgartown is where you can take your family go on a morning date and watch some hard workers put together some basic but very yummy items. They take credit cards over $10 but I'm sure they welcome cash more with a nice tip. The service is quick and everything's made fresh right in front of your eyes like a couple feet away from your eyes actually everything's tight and fun good music in the background if you're in Edgartown and looking for a quick to go order and it's before 1:30 PM this is your spot

Yelp
Wonderful! When you're here you feel like you're at home. It has that lovely cafeteria vibe from a time you thought no longer exists - where the staff knows the regular's names. The food is great and so is the coffee Go!

Yelp
My only complaint/concern is that they never cook the home fries thoroughly! And now they're cutting them in much larger chunks instead of the smaller. Even when we ask them to 'Burn' the home fries they just can't seem to remember and do it. They need to cut the home fries much smaller. They're wasting money! Even sending them back they still can't cook them through enough. And with 4 people they get disorganized.

Yelp
Every time I walked past this store, there was a line of people. I saw locals and tourists lining up for coffee, breakfast, snacks. etc. We stopped for a coffee and the service was prompt, friendly and the coffee was very good. During the pandemic, they basically had a counter where you order and then take out your food or drink. Located near the marina in Edgartown, the setting is very pretty and close to the water, so you can eat or drink as you stroll near the ocean.

Yelp
My mom has been coming here for 40 years and I've been coming for 28. Our favorite breakfast spot on the island. Quick, delicious, casual, and fun to watch them cook on the griddle! Everyone is super friendly and the food is consistently great.

Yelp
I could kick myself for not doing this before. Dock Street Coffee Shop is the BEST OF THE BEST. Their breakfast is amazing but I've been coming for years just to order the same thing. Steak & Cheese, Well done bacon & Mayo. I wish I could explain in words how this hits the spot EVERY TIME! I've never had a bad experience and it's nestled in the cutest little spot that not only feels intimate but it's the best location you can have! I know men work there but so often I see mostly women and I don't want that to go unnoticed. Hard working women are what make businesses run smoother sometime and I wanted to highlight that as well. This place feels like home and I don't care if the pictures do it justice cause the taste is out of this world! This is a rare place that I can say needs no improvement! The vibe, staff & food are PERFECT!!!!!

Felecia R.

Yelp
Good comfort food super friendly place! Will go back! Lots of family working together, open since the 70's- so fun!

Yelp
Hidden gem of Edgartown! I've tried likely every breakfast there is in town from fancy to take out and this was my favorite experience by far. Friendly doesn't even do the staff justice they are incredible and the food is perfectly simple! Everything you could want from a no frills long standing local diner! We will be back!

Yelp
Old school breakfast counter in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. Awesome eggs, ham, sausages, potatoes, you name it. The special French Toast with tomato and ham is absolutely outrageously good. You are eating at a counter with your servers and cooks right in front of you so the service is outstanding. Although it's Martha's Vineyard, nothing fancy about this place. Just great food and great service.

Warner K H.

Yelp
Classic spot. Been coming to Dock Street since I could walk with my family. Consistent, kind staff, reasonable prices.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick ice coffee here and it was great! The food smelled and look amazing. Definitely need to come back

Corey G.

Yelp
Great breakfast, and a really awesome staff to talk to! One of the best priced eateries on the Island, too!

Liz L.

Yelp
A cozy, delicious diner in Edgartown. Great area for shopping and looking around. We got on the list and had a short wait, and delicious breakfast. Do yourself a favor and try the corned beef hash, the #6! Small joint, nice people, good food
google avatar

Yelp
I got a bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel and it was very cheesy bacon is cooked well. The staff is very friendly and if you have a chance would definitely check this place out.

Yelp
If you're looking for that Massachusetts comfort you've found the spot. It's not a diner trying to emulate that 50s vibe, it's Doc Street Coffee Shop. Friendly, affordable, perfect.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast everyday we ate at dock street to start our day. Customer service is amazing and food makes you feel like you are eating at home. Great portions of food for a reasonable price! Thank you Emily and your team for starting our days off right. Highly recommend!! David an Monica :)

Yelp
Go back in time to a diner that probably hasn't changed in 50 years....and that's a good thing! Simple straightforward food with great service and reasonable prices...hard to find on the Vineyard. When I asked for extra butter, the chef came over with a big spreader of butter and shmeared it onto the edge of my plate - I loved this LOL! If you can fit into the bathroom there is an old ketchup bottle as the soap dispenser! Again, love the kitschy charm of this place. In Florida, "over medium" eggs come with whites cooked fully and runny yolks. Asked for that here but got medium yolks...probably my fault: I should have just described how I wanted them cooked FYI. Delicious rye swirl toast and perfectly cooked bacon, which is hard to find. This is just no-frills good basic food. No foo-foo stuff. Home-fries only though...no hash browns; the only downside. To me home fries are just the lazy version of hash browns. But I'm just as happy without them so doesn't affect my opinion of the place. Note: This restaurant is barstool only at the counter - no tables so better to come by yourself or with a friend/spouse...no groups of 4+ etc.

Yelp
Dock Street is a must stop for any visit to Edgartown. Whether it's a traditional breakfast or lunch, the owners and staff are on site to deliver high quality food, fast service and a warm inviting smile. The Dock Street diner has marked time in Edgartown and for more than four decades has connected an evolved Village to its wonderful past. Even during these unprecedented times, when counter service is impractical, the team at Dock Street has formed an unspoken partnership with their customers, old and new. The new service line has become a social gathering, orchestrated by a caring ownership and executed by an energetic staff who works hard to make all seamless, delivering their menu (anyway you like it!), hot, fresh and fast. If you want a "true taste of Edgartown", a visit to DockStreet Coffee shop is as important as any restaurant in Edgartown. Great food, terrific service, and a special experience.

Yelp
Dock Street is the best! Totally unpretentious, and a great spot for scrambled eggs, and coffee. I have been eating breakfast here for 30 years and have no plans to ever stop. The owner and staff are all super nice and super hardworking. Even when they're really busy they always offer a smile and hello. I love this place so much that I literally had my wedding afterparty here.

Yelp
This place! The little breakfast gem of MV. The food is crazy good, fast to come out. The service is so friendly and hospitable, Old family diner vibe. We got breakfast here every morning. So good!
google avatar

Yelp
Eggs, home fries. Old school diner vibe. Counter service only. If that's the sort of thing you're looking for, the DSCS fits the bill. Nothing remotely fancy, just a basic, simple old-fashioned breakfast. Gets crowded quick as there are so few seats, so go early or be prepared to wait. My son and I have been going there at least once a summer, as a vacation tradition, for almost 10 years. Not as cheap as you'd find back home for similar experience, but cheap by MV standards.

Molly C.

Yelp
Great reasonably priced food, fast paced atmosphere with the sweetest staff. Type of place where you talk to people sitting next to you. Wish y'all were open later, sometimes could use a good meal towards midnight!!

Yelp
You may believe that you are doing nothing wrong coming into a diner and trying order food.. apparently you are mistaken. On September 30th my father and I walked in and dealt with the rudest lady on the vineyard maybe in the whole of the commonwealth. Blond, short cut. We come in to get breakfast... you know like customers. Immediately she was abrasive and demanded we know our whole order right out the gate... and you know what we essentially did despite not having ever been there. But she mistakenly noted a "Number 1" when we clearly ordered sandwiches , you think she might apologize for delaying the order but no it was our fault she is unable understand the word "sandwich". It was when she rudely told us to figure it out and went to serve the person behind us... we were done. Got our food elsewhere. This woman has no business being in the service industry. If you are visiting avoid this diner at all costs.

Yelp
After reading all these great reviews, and being recommend by a friend to try to the place. Figured why not have breakfast here since I happen to be in the neighborhood with a few friends. Sadly, Dock St. Coffee Shop did not live up to expectations for me. I ordered the Steak and Eggs for breakfast, not once, after coughing and fixing his hair, did I see the line cook wash his hands, My friend ordered the same thing as I and seemed upset at the hassle of having to prepare two steaks at the same time, frozen steaks fyi. From what I recall customers were the reasons that keeps businesses afloat, we probably just caught him on a bad day. The steak was thin, hard and dry, more along the lines of Beef Jerky than what I had in mind. The scrambled eggs were nothing out of the ordinary but the home fries were surprisingly delicious, hand cut, lightly seasoned and cooked before our eyes, I would of loved to of had a big plate of their home fries to munch on all day. Sadly though the portions were on the light side. Our servers never came and offered us refills, then again it was quite a busy morning. Regardless of the food and the experience ,the host was extremely friendly, had a nice talk and joked around here and there. I'm willingly to give Dock St. Coffee Shop another shot, but until then I'd check out some of the other places nearby.

Yelp
By far the best diner on the island. Such an authentic feel here & a must for anyone looking for breakfast in edgartown! French toast, breakfast sandwiches, omelets you cant go wrong
google avatar

Collin N.

Yelp
This place was alright. They didn't have half the stuff on the menu. Asked for oats... didn't have any. Asked for bacon egg and cheese on a bagel... no bagels. The bacon egg and cheese and sausage egg and cheese were both very good, but small. Would've needed 2 or 3 for the meal to be filling. The home fries were nice and warm but bland. French toast was filling though and tasted pretty good. Not bad overall, average score.

Yelp
My favorite breakfast place in Edgartown. Been going there for many years through 3 different owners and it's always good food. The hash and eggs are my go to breakfast. The people are super nice and this is where the locals go, so it has to be both good but also reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
I was seated next to another customer who was verbally attacked by the chef. She used profanities that were inappropriate. I think she was just asking a question about her bill. The chef then started to complain to me throughout my meal, calling names and asking me what I heard. It was very uncomfortable. I didn't finish my meal. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Brian D.

Yelp
Delicious food. Excellent location. Friendly and efficient staff. Best prices in the area. Their home fries are a great side instead of fries. Try the turkey melt!

J J.

Yelp
IMMACULATE VIBES HERE! Honestly best breakfast place on island and the perfect hangover cure or can just get a damn good breakfast! all the girls here were super nice and made my morning! l

Yelp
Small little shop with great food!! Tasty, generous servings. Bright smiles and friendly employees. A win win.

Yelp
Most of Edgartown is full of shiny and new boutiques but Dock Street Coffee Shop is one of the last of the original establishments. If you like greasy spoons, this is the place to eat. We came here for breakfast almost every day of the week we spent at Martha's Vineyard. If you are accustomed to more attentive waitstaff, you ought to look elsewhere. Service is straight-forward; get your order, serve your food and bill, refill your coffee. To me, this is acceptable; this is a place where you go to eat. It's not a place to be seen or be coddled. Their brusque nature can come off as mean, most likely but I've eaten at enough greasy spoons to know it's not about you at all, it's about making sure your order is what is you get and that you pay your bill. The food is also a reminder that Dock Street Coffee Shop has not tried to change along with the rest of downtown Edgartown. There are no options for gluten-free, paleo, or vegans. If you order the omelete, make sure to ask for extra cheese. The egg mac - egg and cheese sandwiches made with English muffins - are tasty with the addition of linquica - Portuguese sausage, similar to Polish kielbasa - or plain sausage. Homefries are simple but excellent; I like them best when they've developed a crust from being on the griddle for so long. During busier hours, you will not encounter home fries with the crust. Instead they are tender and velvety all over. No frills, no vegetables (unless you count onions and potatoes), cash only. My kind of diner.
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Ordered breakfast sandwich to go. Burnt over cooked and responded with "sometimes we burn English muffins." Do you want to come back for another one? If it is burnt you should not serve it!
google avatar

Hank M.

Yelp
Not bad, but the attitude here blows. The long haired, Phishesque line cook couldn't get any angrier and the "waitstaff" is fairly callous. Lighten up guys and gals, you're serving bacon and eggs. Relax... Yeah, the tourists are annoying, but last I checked, they paid your lease and wage. Get an egg sandwich to go and sit by the water and avoid smelling like the butter flavored oil they smear on the flat top.
google avatar

Kirby W.

Yelp
If you're into Greazy Spoons, you will be in Heaven. I ordered the Package Deal for 9 bucks, which includes a 3-egg omlette plus choice of meat, home fries, toast, plus all the coffee you can guzzle. The grub came fast and furious, so fast in fact I burned my mouth on the first forkful of omlette. Excellent taste and the salty servers/waitresses make this a colorful place for breakfast or lunch. You sit on these rotating stools at a counter--if you have long legs you could feel a bit uncomfortable, so find 2 empty stools if possible and rotate your knees left or right. If you enjoy listening to other people's conversations you'll feel right at home.

Kelly K.

Yelp
Unwelcoming, irritated and disenchanted staff. They made us feel like we were ruining their day by ordering here.
google avatar

jake g.

Yelp
Had a late breakfast here on our last day in Edgartown on an off-season mini vacation. It was so, so delicious. Counter seating or take out only, no-frills, no nonsense experience which is exactly what we were looking for. Place is clearly frequented by locals so we knew we were in the right spot. Had an omelette with onion and sausage and a pancake and my partner had over easy eggs with hash, everything was amazing and perfectly cooked. Home fries with crusty brown edges were textbook perfect, even the pancake was great. Will be here next time and every time we stay in town. As long as you're looking for down home breakfast or lunch (and not a fancy dining experience) you're in for a serious treat.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
By no means a tourist trap. Quick reasonable breakfast. Always packed even being easy walking distance from two other established breakfast places. Fun to watch them work and they are efficient. About 15 seats total, so you may have to wait to get in. I poked my head in to see if there were any seats open for my son and I. One of the workers asked if I was going to sit when there was an opening. I told her yes and she gave me a coffee while I waited and moved on. Perfect attention. I'm not looking for an ass kissing, just acknowledge and attend to other guests. A must experience for anyone who enjoys breakfast joints.
google avatar

D K.

Yelp
Good food no frills good service like this place a lot. It's small with one counter. Good place to eat without all the fuss. You can take your coffee to go when your done I like that.
google avatar

Ellie L.

Yelp
We came with a family who has been coming to the Vineyard for years. And this is their regular breakfast location and I can see why. With three growing boys, its probably the most cost efficient to eat here and it's pretty good breakfast. If you are looking for a good priced staple breakfast, this is place to go.

Sue L.

Yelp
Good food, good service... will return every time I'm on the Vineyard! Doing a great job during tough times!! Emily and Jocelyn are so sweet! Love Dock St.!!!

Bill F.

Yelp
Cozy restaurant with island atmosphere and that home cooked food taste. Family loves the French toast and home fries and eggs. You will find a lot of locals frequent this place- good value compared to other island restaurants. The kids like it too because you're right at the counter watching your food cook and the staff is always friendly and will chat with you if not too busy.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Dock Street, for lack of a better term, is a dive-diner. The place is literally a hole in the wall that hasn't changed in the years I've been eating there- which is why I love it so much. They can only handle a dozen or so people at their counter and you order off their menu which is posted above the grill...excellent breakfast and lunch foods. The grill master guy is always there and it's fun to watch him making your food. The waitresses are friendly and since they don't have far to walk the service is quick and efficient. Places like Dock Street are what makes Martha's Vineyard so great and unique... the same people are behind the counter serving the same great food, year after year.

Michael H.

Yelp
Best egg sandwiches in edgartown. I get take out here at least 4 times a week in the summer and it's always ready in under 10 minutes. Awesome staff who are always very friendly.

Ray V.

Yelp
Best breakfast on the Vineyard! Nicest people too! Been going there since 1986. Never disappointed.

Pedro B.

Yelp
The best breakfast spot in town!! Family run and always on top of their game!! I get a bacon Mac every time!!!!!!

Paul C.

Yelp
No frills, authentic and old fashioned . Breakfast was ok, with undercooked potatoes and overlooked eggs. Service was appropriately inattentive, with the expected diner ceremony. Good stop-gap for simple and fast food.

Laurie B.

Yelp
We figured we would try it being that it is close proximity to where we were staying. Very tight quarters and the wait staff were not very friendly unless you were a local. I try & support small businesses when possible. For a small coffee shop there prices were extremely high, I understand short season & all and I do not mind paying if the food is decent.
google avatar

Kristin L.

Yelp
Just finished 14 breakfasts in 14 days at the Vineyard and it never disappoints. Simply my favorite place to have breakfast in the world. Thank you to the tourist trap place around the corner that decoys all the newbies so this place can remain a well kept secret. No pretense, no frills, just excellent food cooked right in front of you at an open seating counter. All staff friendly. Excellent food comes quickly. Fishermen and fancy people sit side by side with equal love of the #1. A true gem.
